Deep Isolation Nuclear CEO Rod Baltzer joined Steve Darling from Proactive to explain how the company is adapting directional drilling technology from the oil and gas industry to dispose of spent nuclear fuel in boreholes drilled roughly one mile underground. Baltzer said radioactive waste is sealed in steel canisters and placed within steel-lined, cement-backed boreholes, leaving the material isolated beneath approximately one billion tons of rock. According to the company's safety modelling, the peak radiation dose would occur 1.6 million years in the future and would be extremely small, comparable to the radiation exposure from eating about one banana per year. Founded more than a decade ago, Deep Isolation has built a portfolio of around 100 patents covering site selection, borehole design, canister engineering, monitoring systems, and final well plugging, spanning the full disposal lifecycle. Baltzer noted that the company operates internationally as well as in the United States. The company also helped establish the Deep Borehole Demonstration Center in Texas, where a full-scale, at-depth demonstration project was launched in January. Long-lead equipment has been ordered, drilling is expected to begin later this year, and the current target is to begin placing and retrieving canisters by mid-next year. Baltzer highlighted growing interest from policymakers, noting that several states have expressed interest through the U.S. Department of Energy's Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campus initiative, with the list expected to narrow in the coming months. Doch die Demonstration wurde am Abend durch einen brutalen Terrorangriff beendet: Ein 21-jähriger Islamist fuhr im Tiergarten mit einem Auto in die Menschenmenge, tötete eine Frau aus Polen und verletzte mehr als 30 weitere Personen, zum Teil schwer. René Powilleit leitet den Landesverband der LSU Berlin, der Interessenvertretung für LSBTIQ+-Personen innerhalb der CDU/CSU. Er befand sich inmitten der Demonstrierenden am Brandenburger Tor, als unmittelbar nach dem Attentat die Evakuierung des gesamten Areals durch den Veranstalter und die Polizei Berlin angeordnet wurde. Jean-Christophe Lanoix is the founder of Turboconsultant. He spent seventeen years at Hinicio, a strategy consultancy specialising in hydrogen — joining as an intern, rising to Associate Director and leaving in 2024, two years after the firm's exit. He now builds the system he wishes he had had. Introducing Turboconsultant An execution layer for solo consultants: a virtual team of AI agents spanning the whole practice — business development, research, methodologies, marketing and content, deliverable production, quality control, meetings and follow-up, admin. The consultant directs. The agents execute. It installs as a plugin on Claude Cowork and turns a generalist agentic workspace into a consulting-grade one. Three things separate it from a general-purpose assistant. Personalisation. A one-time onboarding hands it the consultant's own methodologies, templates, frameworks and voice. What comes out arrives in their template, follows their methods, and reads in their words. Quality control. Every document it produces passes three layers of audit before it leaves — sources traced, figures recomputed, claims contested by models outside the system. That is where AI hallucination and error get caught. Data walling. Nothing moves from one engagement to another, and the models do not train on client work. And it is one system rather than a patchwork of tools: the whole practice runs in a single environment that sharpens with every engagement. The net effect, measured on the existing user base, is a 25x on average, while improving the general quality of the work. Demonstration of Turboconsutlant  Both cases are invented, and so is the consultant behind them — a generic profile carrying no proprietary methodologies, no past deliverables, no writing to learn from. The engagement starts the way a real one does: a request for proposal lands by email. Everything that follows comes out of that one document and public sources. The proposal — thirty minutes The system interviews the consultant first — how they want to work, whether they know the client, who delivers, what their day rate is. Then it writes, in their own template: context, the question behind the client's question, objectives, approach and methodology, scope in and out, work packages, data room requirements, timeline, budget options, next steps. The consultant reviews and signs off. Nothing leaves unvalidated. Without AI, a proposal of that depth is several man-days.   The methodology section — six work packages mapped onto one governing question. Pricing the work — three options, fees, payment terms. A commercial proposal, not an analysis. The kick-off pack — fifteen minutes One instruction produces the whole pack: the client kick-off deck, an internal briefing note — assumptions, questions to ask, objections to expect, the landmines — and the data room request list in Excel, item by item, with what each one unblocks and the date it is needed by. In a firm, this is junior work. A solo consultant has no junior. It costs them half a day to a full day, every time. The work-package sequence agreed at kick-off, and the date after which the analysis stops waiting for client data. The First Deliverable — forty-five minutes The pattern holds whatever the sector: the research, the market sizing, the model underneath, and a deck of exhibits in the consultant's own consulting-grade template — each exhibit carrying one argument, each figure carrying its source. This is where the consultant sits as a director rather than an executant: give the instruction, let the team execute, come back and review. It is also where the system refuses to please. Here it tested the client board's own headline figure instead of repeating it, and the deck says why. Forty-five minutes for a work package that is easily five to ten days of work without it. An exhibit from the first deliverable — the sizing funnel, in the consultant's template. The economics behind it, recomputed from the model that sits under the deck. Quality control — three layers, then a loop Nothing reaches the client before three independent passes. Layer 1 — sources. Every claim and every figure traced back to where it came from, the source assessed, each one rated: verified, probable, or not established. Layer 2 — internal audit. An isolated sub-agent reviews the finished document against a purpose-built grid and rebuilds the Excel model from its own inputs. Same family of model, so it catches the obvious: the unsupported claim, the figure that contradicts the model, the page that does not carry its title. Layer 3 — dual external audit. Two models from outside the system, independent of each other and of the one that did the work. No shared bias, and two verdicts to compare. This is where the qualitative control happens. Here the two disagreed — which is itself the finding. Then the loop. The consultant asks the system to integrate the findings and audit again, and iterates. Half an hour takes a document from roughly 85% client-ready to something that needs only a final human review. The three verdicts on the first draft, as returned — including the external model that said HOLD. A new farming practice should earn a producer's confidence before it is trusted with an entire field. Oklahoma State University Extension specialists Brian Arnall, Ph.D., and Josh Lofton, Ph.D., explain how small-plot research becomes practical agronomic guidance for Oklahoma producers. They discuss replication, field variability, statistical confidence, and the steps researchers take before recommending changes involving nitrogen, plant population, varieties, or other crop-management decisions. They also explain why on-farm cooperators and producer-run trials are critical for testing whether research results hold up under commercial conditions. Trials containing too many varieties can stretch across changing soils and conditions, so researchers may divide varieties into separate maturity groups.16:19–19:15 — Statistical error and recommendation risk The group discusses the possibility of concluding that a treatment works when it does not, or concluding that it does not work when it actually does. Arnall emphasizes the risk of recommending a product or practice that fails to produce a dependable return.19:15–22:10 — Why confidence standards can change Lofton and Arnall discuss the difference between 90% and 95% confidence. The appropriate threshold depends on the research question, the quality of the field conditions and the consequences of being wrong. Major changes to accepted practices demand stronger evidence.22:10–24:22 — Evidence behind major management changes The speakers compare agricultural risk with the much higher certainty required in medicine and engineering. Arnall says he had approximately six years of data before becoming highly vocal about delaying some nitrogen applications.24:22–26:54 — Challenging assumptions and explaining mechanisms Researchers do not rely on statistics alone. They ask whether a result makes biological and agronomic sense, discuss it with colleagues and collect additional plant or soil measurements to explain why it occurred.26:54–29:44 — Scientific disagreement strengthens recommendations Arnall and Lofton explain that members of the research team frequently disagree about mechanisms and interpretations. Those arguments continue until the data support a consistent OSU recommendation. Some practices move into formal demonstrations, while others are tested through a few producer-applied passes or strips. Starting with a limited area gives producers a way to evaluate an unfamiliar practice without risking the whole operation.32:10–34:31 — Why farmer-hosted small plots matter Arnall emphasizes that many small plots are located on commercial farms rather than research stations. These sites provide different soils, management histories and production environments, although the plots can create extra work for the cooperating producer.34:31–35:30 — Helping producers become experimenters Lofton describes producers who begin with one research project and then start conducting their own field demonstrations. Small states and their leading families will find more common language and shared understanding with each other across geographic boundaries than with larger neighboring states. A family business in Montevideo has an easier conversation with counterparts in Singapore or New Zealand than with businesses in Sao Paulo because small state actors recognize each other's unique realities and circumstances. Hassan plans to create a Davos for small states in 2027 to facilitate this knowledge sharing among the mycelium colony, allowing different nodes to exchange innovations and strategies across the distributed global network of small state actors.7. The optimistic future involves unleashing individual creativity globally by giving people access to AI-enabled tools that provide world-class legal, financial, and consulting advice in their language of choice. The solopreneur can now become a conglomerate, with individuals no longer constrained by lack of access to execution machinery. Hassan envisions young people in places like Gabon, Swaziland, or Uruguay having the same access to sophisticated business infrastructure as those in traditional power centers, with the distinguishing factor being creativity of mind rather than geographic or institutional privilege. Small states can pivot faster on regulatory frameworks, sometimes achieving in a dinner meeting what takes large states three years of legislative, executive, and judicial wrangling.

So far, a handful of people have been arrested for trying to tamper with the reflecting pool in various ways, and the National Guard has stepped up foot patrols in the area in response.California: Yesterday afternoon a mass shooting was reported at the Butte County Library in Chico. One gunman entered the library shortly after 5:00pm local time, and began shooting visitors inside. Police immediately responded to the facility, and the shooter was apprehended in a wooded area immediately outside the library as the security cordon was established. Concerning casualties, the library was mostly empty at the time of the shooting, however two people were killed and one child was wounded by the shooter during the attack. Analyst Comment: The suspect has been identified as Bradley Scott Sayer, who reportedly lived in Chico. Sayer allegedly made statements after being arrested, claiming that he attempted to carry out a massacre at the library reminiscent of previous mass shootings.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: In Canada, more information has come to light regarding the attempted mass shooting yesterday. The sequence of events remains uncertain, however the investigation has revealed that much of the information the responders were making decisions on in the heat of the moment, was actually erroneous.The initial details of a shooter being on foot in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood do not appear to be true, nor were the initial claims of the gunman being inside the grocery store, and it is not clear as to why police were observed at either location. The shooter was actually located inside an improvised firing position inside a hotel room at the Hilton Garden Inn. From this position, he began firing at the corporate office building across the street.The target of this shooting was the headquarters building for Aylo...a "software company" which is actually the parent company for websites hosting "adult" content. The assailant began the attack by shooting through his hotel room window, into the corporate office building. After firing an unknown number of rounds, the shooter exited the hotel, and ran up and down Av. de Courtrai searching for targets (which is possibly the reason for the police initially thinking the shooter was in the grocery store). Eyewitness statements during the fog of war are not the most accurate, and pinpointing the shooter's whereabouts after departing the hotel is challenging, and at this point reports emerged of a second possible shooter being located in the same area (which turned out to be false). Eventually, the shooter attempted to make entry to the Aylo building, but was unable to do so before police spotted the shooter and the final skirmish began.Concerning the victims, the man who was accidentally shot by police at the entrance to the Aylo building has been identified as Michael Moshe Mizrahi, an Israeli citizen and local Rabbi for the heavily-Jewish community that surrounds the site of the shooting. Last night, Montreal Police identified the officer that was killed as Officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane. The status of the female officer who was wounded remains unclear, though some sources claim that she remains in critical condition at a hospital. Regarding the shooter, the suspect has been identified as Seth Hatfield, and a manifesto was allegedly sent to various media groups right around the time of the attack. The manifesto itself is a little long for these types of documents at 104 pages long, and despite the first page of the document widely circulating social media (and thus attributing motive), nearly the entire document is promoting Communism and encouraging violent revolution, which seems to be the predominant motivation for the attack.More details are expected as the investigation continues, and special focus will likely be placed on clarifying the details of what led to the initial police response being observed so far from the actual shooting site, as well as what actually transpired within the hotel, and on the street between the initial first shots, and the final engagement. Another unresolved detail is any coordination or prior-knowledge of the attack by any co-conspirators. The shooter's manifesto specifically mentions other works and writings by the shooter, which presumably had an audience of probably more than just the shooter himself. Based on the writings of the assailant, he clearly thought of himself as an academic, and wrote extensively on various pro-Communist ideas.
