"History is telling us that we're likely to get some new discoveries from introducing seismic into our mixture. Nobody understands mineral deposits like the geoscientists who work on them day in, day out." Dr. Heather Schijns explores the groundbreaking use of hard rock seismic data in mineral exploration with insights from one of the most popular papers at IMAGE 2023. OVERVIEW > The transformative impact of seismic data in identifying deeper mineral deposits and reducing exploration risks > The successful application of advanced processing techniques, like full waveform inversion and Kirchhoff pre-stack depth migration, on the Olympic Dam IOCG deposit > The counterintuitive cost benefits of seismic exploration as mining ventures deeper > The strategic approach to de-risking 3D seismic surveys for business stakeholders > The importance of seismic interpretation in effective mineral exploration and the evolving role of geoscientists in this domain > The potential for seismic methods to enhance safety and reduce high-risk activities in mining Host Andrew Geary and Heather Schijns discuss her expanded abstract, "Sparse 3D seismic survey over the Olympic Dam IOCG deposit." This episode delves into why now is the perfect time for the mining industry to embrace seismic methods, especially as the search for base metal resources deepens and conventional geophysical approaches face limitations. Listeners will be captivated by the journey from a sparse 3D seismic survey to a comprehensive understanding of the Olympic Dam deposit and how this approach paves the way for future exploration strategies. The episode also tackles the critical business aspect of seismic exploration, urging listeners to consider the value and risk reduction seismic data can provide. Challenging China's dominance in Africa's tech sector was one of the key takeaways from this month's Europe-Africa summit and a key component of the EU's Global Gateway infrastructure agenda. But it's not going to be easy given the enormous breadth of Chinese technology engagement in Africa that goes back decades.Western governments are going to find it even more difficult to compete in this market given the rapid expansion of Chinese corporate activity in Africa's digital sector. University of Tampere researcher Motolani Agbebi mapped out the scope of that challenge in a new paper published in February on the Council on Foreign Relations website that details Africa's role in China's Digital Silk Road agenda. She joins Eric & Cobus to discuss her findings and explain what she thinks African stakeholders need to do to best take advantage of the brewing geopolitical tech rivalry.JOIN THE DISCUSSION:CAP on Facebook: www.facebook.com/ChinaAfricaProjectTwitter: @ChinaAfrProject | @stadenesque | @motolani_agbebiMotolani's Paper: China's Digital Silk Road and Africa's Technological Future -- https://on.cfr.org/36FJvoU JOIN US ON PATREON!Become a CAP Patreon member and get all sorts of cool stuff including our Week in Review report, invitation to join monthly Zoom calls with Eric & Cobus, and even an awesome new CAP Podcast mug!www.patreon.com/chinaafricaprojectSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Alex Pardo is a family guy, entrepreneur, real estate investor, coach, adventurer, sports enthusiast, and love helping people. He is the founder of FlipEmpire.com and its parent company, Creative RE-Solutions, LLC, and have flipped well over 300 properties. He graduated from college in 2002 with a Finance and M.I.S. degree, and went to work for General Electric's Financial Management Program (in their Consumer Finance division). At the time, he had aspirations of becoming a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, but sometime during his third month on the job, after working an average of 75 hours a week, he quickly realized that he wasn't going to create the lifestyle he envisioned working for someone else. He completed my two-year commitment to the company, and fired his bosses in January 2005. A few months later, he went backpacking around Europe & Africa with a few buddies, and while partying in Ibiza, Spain, he received a call from a friend who invited him to a "Marketing for Deals" boot camp that coming month. That was his "fork in the road". He had financed my 3-month trip on my credit card, was in debt, and had no income. The cost of the event was $997, and after a few minutes of internal debate, he bought the ticket, and booked his flight. He had committed to start a real estate business, and was going to make it happen one-way or the other. Less than two months after that boot camp, he closed my first deal and made $44,000 (which almost replaced his income with GE)! Key Takeaways: ‘Don’t make big business decisions based on what you see others do’. Alex shares a bit about how he got started in a ‘wholesaling’ business at age 12. How did he learn about real estate and did he get his first deal? In college, Alex realized that he wanted to be a CEO and run his own business. He began to self educate about real estate by reading books, watching materials and using other important tools to learn more about running a real estate business. What are some self practical things Alex has taken from the self development journey to become a real estate investor? Alex talks about the importance of figuring out things and people that work for you and with you. Keeping habits that fit not just his schedule but also empowers him and his choices. Why does Alex think it’s important to invest in reasonable business relationships? Alex says that understanding the difference between people who are “how can I help” v “what can I receive” will go a long way in cultivating healthy business and personal relationships.  What’s going on in Alex’s business world? He has been wholesaling for the past 15yrs but it wasn’t until 2011 that he began to share tasks with other people that could help. When Alex began to include people on his team, he had about 8 people but after a while, he began to rethink the necessity of 8 teams members and that was when he made the cut to 4. What does Alex think about Small team v big team in wholesaling? Every business and its owner have a model and every decision taken has to fit that model. So you have to ask, What do I want for my business and why? Whether you opt for a big team or a small team, make sure you hire the right people for the right roles because hiring the wrong people is worse than not hiring anyone at all. A big teams doesn’t mean more money and neither does a small team mean less money. Why did Alex start a mastermind? Alex believes that it is a vehicle and tool that helps him do what he’s most passionate about. Nothing beats working with the right people and helping them achieve their goals. Also, being part of a community that values you is very important. How does Alex view value? Alex advices that if you are investing in yourself and you’re paying to be in a room, make sure you’re not with people who are not willing to pay to be in that room. What’s Alex’s next big thing after Corona? What will Alex do if he had to start from the beginning with just $500. Mentioned in this episode: How to get started and scale your wholesale business during this crisis. If you are looking to take the leap and really learn this business online, get started at Wholesale Mastery.  Let’s connect: https://raulbolufe.com/podcast/ Listen and subscribe to the Flipping Miami Podcast: https://raulbolufe.com/podcast/ Subscribe to Raul Bolufe’s YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk4IuNYEjysY1OlXd11on6Q Who is Raul Bolufe? https://raulbolufe.com/about/ Follow Raul on: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/capitalriseinvestmentsllc Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bolufe.raul Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/raul.bolufe/ Connect with Alex: https://flipempire.com/ https://www.ascendyoursuccess.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/alex-pardo/ https://www.youtube.com/alexpardo https://www.instagram.com/alexpardo25/?hl=en https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-flip-empire-show/id1120765959

First up, I chat with Elizabeth and Jeff Newcamp, who are currently living in Europe and had something of a tricky experience trying to cross the border from Croatia into Slovenia.  From Europe, I move on to Africa with Ian from the Barefoot Backpacker. He has some fun tales to tell about crossing borders between Ghana and Burkina Faso, and again between Benin and Togo. These borders are relatively seldom crossed by tourists so they’re not quite set up as clearly as you’d hope! Finally, Matt Eakin has a hilarious story about the time he needed to enter Bangladesh and didn’t have the required visa. Let’s just say his method isn’t something I’m recommending you try (and he agrees!), but it makes for a great story. Report launch and panel discussion: Boko Haram beyond the headlines – understanding the origins and future of islamist insurgency in northeast Nigeria Join renowned experts in understanding Boko Haram beyond the day-to-day headlines. Under what circumstances came Boko Haram to be and what has ushered the organisation to the center of attention in international coverage of terror organisations? Not least, from today onwards – what can we expect from Boko Haram in the future? Boko Haram – or Jam’aat Ahl as-Sunnah lidDa’wah wa’l-Jihad, as the group calls itself – is only the latest in a series of radical Islamist groups to emerge in the north and northeast of Nigeria. In April 2014, however, the group rose to international notoriety when it kidnapped 276 schoolgirls in Chibok in north-eastern Nigeria. In Hate Speech International’s report Boko Haram - the islamist insurgency in Nigeria, Maren Sæbø outlines the history and evolution of Boko Haram, explores its organization and aspirations and concludes by looking at what may possibly happen in the future. In this event, which is co-hosted by Hate Speech International and the Norwegian Council for Africa, Maren Sæbø will present main findings from her report. This will be followed by a panel discussion which will touch upon issues such as religion and identity in Nigeria, the organization’s rationale and its place in a regional context. In the panel: - Victor Adetula is Head of Research at Nordiska Afrikainstitutet - The Nordic Africa Institute and Professor of International Relations & Development Studies at the University of Uppsala. His fields of interest encompass Conflict and post-conflict, Democracy and governance, peace and conflict, Africa’s international relations, political economy of Africa, Europe–Africa relations, and international development assistance. - Morten Bøås (PhD) is Research Professor at Nupi (Norwegian Institute of International Affairs). He predominantly works on issues concerning peace and conflict in Africa, including issues such as land rights and citizenship conflicts, youths, ex-combatants and the new landscape of insurgencies and geopolitics. Bøås has authored, co-authored and co-edited several books and published a number of articles for academic journals. He has conducted in-depth fieldwork in a number of African countries and travelled widely elsewhere on the continent. - Maren Sæbø is an independent journalist and historian, with focus on African Affairs. She has written extensively on African conflicts, and written a thesis on the Angolan Civil war. She is editor and runs Bundu.no, a website for independent journalism on Africa. The panel will be chaired by Gina Lende, postdoctoral researcher, working on religion and politics in Nigeria.

Despite numerous technological innovations — from 360-degree video (http://bit.ly/2kS5VJe) to social media live-streaming (http://bit.ly/2kSfF63) to robot journalists (http://bit.ly/2kSfVSH) — the trusty old email seems to be increasing in importance in the newsroom. Quartz, for instance, has several journalists based across the world work on its daily newsletter (http://bit.ly/2kS7ers), which releases at about 6am across time zones in Asia, Europe/Africa and the Americas, every day. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. The email inbox is, for many people, the first app or webpage they open in the morning and one that they return to multiple times over the day. Amid the noise and barrage of social media posts, the email newsletter may be the easiest and quickest way to reach a reader directly (http://bit.ly/2kS5gYe). In the podcast, we compare our favourite email briefs, such as the Times Red Box (http://bit.ly/2kSdbox) and Politico Morning Media tipsheet (http://politi.co/2kS1Y78), and why we like them. We also discuss the ethics of email newslettering. If getting access to a reader’s email inbox is like gaining a private audience (http://bit.ly/2kSgqfx) with him or her, how much should publications use it for their own marketing or political purposes? If publications, political parties and companies alike use people’s information for political or marketing purposes, does this count as an abuse of big data and reader’s trust (http://bit.ly/2kSbnf2)? Declared the UN Year of Family Farming and the AU Year of Food Security, 2014 will be particularly interesting. With key challenges in terms of policy directions, international processes, and Europe-Africa relations, conflicts can certainly arise; but next year we could also see some break-through in all these three dimensions. Expert in the CAADP process and head of ECDPM's Food Security programme, Francesco Rampa answers questions about the challenges for food security in 2014 Music is Radiohem by Podington Bear

The Rise and Fall of the African Slave Trade- New Perspectives for Europe, Africa and the Americas

A newly expanded version of the Transatlantic Slave Trade Database will be made available on an open access web site in 2008. It now contains details of 35,000 slaving voyages, one third more than in 1999 and much new information on other voyages that were included in the 1999 CD-ROM. This major addition of new data has made it possible to uncover new patterns in the transatlantic slave trade and present those patterns in visually compelling ways. It is now apparent that two distinct transatlantic slave trades existed, that the largest centers for organizing slave voyages were in the Americas, not in Europe, and that African resistance was a major factor in shaping the slave traffic. It is also apparent that abolition of the slave trade had a considerable influence over the composition and direction of transatlantic migration from the Old World to the New in the nineteenth century.
