Miku Sophie Kühmels Roman "Hannah" erzählt zehn Jahre im Leben der bildenden Künstlerin Hannah Höch, und zwar die Jahre zwischen 1926 und 1926, in denen sie mit der niederländischen Schriftstellerin Til Brugman zusammen war. Ein Leben das geprägt ist von der Kunst, von Reisen und von Freundschaften; aber auch vom Aufkommenden Faschismus und Deutschland. Wir tauchen ein in den Roman, der das Leben der beiden Künstlerinnen durch die Montage unterschiedlicher Versatzstücke erzählt: Originaldokumente, Szenen, Dialoge, Listen, und vieles mehr. Für den Podcast des literaturcafe.de sprach Wolfgang Tischer mit Hannah Häffner über die Entstehung des Romans. Obwohl gelegentlich zu lesen, ist »Die Riesinnen« kein Debüt-Roman. Begonnen hat Hannah Häffner mit Krimis, die an der Nord- und Ostsee spielten. Doch irgendwann, so Hannah Häffner im Podcast-Gespräch, habe sie gemerkt, dass sie viele Geschichten im Kopf habe, die im Krimi-Genre einfach nicht erzählen werden konnten. Und irgendwie war klar, dass die Geschichte dreier Frauen im Schwarzwald spielen sollte. Hannah Häffner, in Heidelberg geboren, lebte einige Jahre in Hamburg, bevor sie wieder zurück nach Baden-Württemberg zog. Buch: Hannah Häffner: Die Riesinnen (Penguin Verlag) »Bei den drei Riesinnen hatte ich das Gefühl, da steckt so viel drin, dass ich damit wirklich die Seiten füllen kann und die Jahre da verbringen kann«, sagt Häffner. Verortet hat sie ihre Geschichte in einem kleinen fiktiven Dorf im Schwarzwald und verhandelt dabei ganz existentielle Fragen von Unabhängigkeit und Zugehörigkeit. „Die Riesinnen“ ist ein beindruckendes Debüt, das vor allem auch sprachlich überzeugt.

Am 21.10.2025 lud die Stadtteilbibliothek Erich Weinert zum Literarischen Frühstück ein. Zu Gast war die vielfach ausgezeichnete Autorin Miku Sophie Kühmel. Sie las aus ihrem aktuellen Roman „Hannah“ – einer literarischen Hommage an die Dada-Künstlerin Hannah Höch und ihre Lebensgefährtin Til Brugman. We're focusing on special moments and recognitions that were a long time coming, including the class of 1974 at an Oklahoma high school that got to enjoy all the pomp and circumstance of a graduation ceremony 50 years late. We also revisit from the archive our conversation with Hannah Hà who discovered her mother's past as a rock and roll star in Vietnam before coming to the United States.

Seit fünf Jahrzehnten sucht er nach (post-)kolonialen Spuren in den Städten. Zugleich beobachtet er, wie sich Orte durch die Globalisierung verändern. Aufgewachsen ist er in England und Nigeria. Als Fotograf zog es ihn weiter durch die Welt. Seit über 30 Jahren lebt und arbeitet er auch in Berlin. Jetzt zeichnet die Stadt Akinbode Akinbiyi mit ihrem wichtigsten Kunstpreis aus, dem Hannah-Höch-Preis 2024. Und bis Mitte Oktober ist sein Werk in der Berlinischen Galerie zu erleben.

In this bonus episode Gary Mansfield speaks to Miss Bugs (@miss_bugs)Miss Bugs was founded in the early part of 2007, originally coming from a background in photography and graphics. Working in partnership, they developed fast, spontaneous working methods, cutting and pasting existing images; ‘remixing and sampling classics' in art to make new pieces with their own mark.Miss Bugs began in the early days making small scale works on paper, using screen printing with hand painted elements. They then scaled the work up, making life size cut outs of characters to place in situ on the streets of London. These were left in place to become part of the cityscape and recorded through photography.Their most recent work includes larger scale pieces, incorporating laser cut planes of wood, hundreds of small component objects and poured resin. These pieces are time consuming and labour intensive, and a long way from the quickly constructed art pieces of the early days. Miss Bugs has always taken a broad and varied approach to creating work. The combining of materials and objects, alongside the way contemporary imagery can be collaged together, either by hand, through photography, or using a digital process is important.The focus of the work has always been the human form; as Miss Bugs' interest lies in developing ‘characters'
to tell a story. Archetypal imagery from magazines, art history and films are used as a starting point, which are then cut, overlaid and distorted to produce character portraits with an arresting graphic look. The influence of collage artists like Hannah Höch can clearly be seen in the work.
