Differentiation can transform both your brand AND your internal culture. For over 40 years, Barry LaBov has helped iconic companies like Harley-Davidson, Audi, and The Macallan uncover the magic that sets them apart - and now he's bringing those lessons to the nonprofit sector. Barry walks us through his 5-step “brand re-engineering” process, which starts with a profound question: "What should we NOT change?" You'll hear why naming your unique approach is critical, how to avoid the trap of generic mission statements, and why launching your brand refresh should start with your most important audience: your team and supporters. These learnings from Barry's work at LABOV Marketing Communications and Training offer powerful parallels for nonprofits seeking emotional connection with supporters, and I just know this episode will challenge you to sharpen your language, simplify your message, and lead with confidence!Resources & LinksConnect with Barry on LinkedIn and learn more about LABOV on their website. Barry also has a book, The Power of Differentiation. This show is brought to you by iDonate. Your donation page is leaking donors, and iDonate's new pop-up donation form is here to fix that. Just because there's no racing doesn't mean there's nothing to talk about as the lads catch up with one of the good guys of the motorcycle world, Jacob Roulstone. An honor to have two of my faves on this week's episode of Talkin' Rock. Tom Keifer and Brad Gillis' music has been with me practically my whole life. Tom Keifer is up first. We discuss what's on tap for his band, with a date at the Royal Oak Music Theater on September 4th. What about new music? Tom answers that question, too. He also told me stories of the 1989 Moscow Music Festival, as he did press sitting next to Ozzy Osbourne himself. We also got into the writing process he uses, and it's different than most. Brad Gillis is up next. I had the pleasure of meeting with Brad a few weeks ago here in Detroit. He let me hold and pose with his famous 1962 Strat that he's had since the 70s. His "work horse," as he calls it. He's played that on every Night Ranger album and Ozzy's Speak of the Devil record. He told me about getting the gig with Ozzy, how he scored a killer Harley-Davidson, and tons more. Great to catch up with these two rock legends....on one non-award winning podcast! Meltdown

This episode, Ken Schmidt- former Director of Communications at Harley-Davidson and the brand architect behind its iconic resurgence- joins Nicholas Ross to talk about what it really takes to stand out in a crowded, noisy market. Ken played a key role in Harley's turnaround from financial ruin and he shares what the company got wrong, what they did to fix it, and why many businesses fail to differentiate meaningfully. What does any of this have to do with financial services? Everything. Ken breaks down how financial advisors (especially those running smaller, independent firms) can rise above the noise not by focusing on what they do, but by getting clear on who they are and how they make people feel. From creating meaningful client experiences to building a reputation people talk about, his message is clear: if you want to stand out, don't just sell a service. Create a story worth sharing. Drawing from his early days at Hootsuite and advising 30+ founders annually, Bocar unpacks the frameworks and mindsets for growing to $100M ARR without chasing inflated valuations.Specifically, Bocar covers:(03:13) Bocar Dia shifts from engineering to sales at early-stage Hootsuite.(12:09) Validate real pain, then pinpoint key problems to shape your MVP.(20:01) Founders often raise before soul-searching — and end up misaligned.(25:10) Product-market fit is when value drives steady inbound demand.(30:17) Sales has three phases: product fit, GTM fit and scale.(36:57) Don't scale early traction. Prove one repeatable channel first.(41:57) Hire Customer Success before Sales to drive renewals and growth.(46:30) Founders who sell first know exactly what kind of leaders and reps to hire next.(51:00) AI can help sales, but manual validation is needed before scaling.(57:53) Bocar recommends data-driven, tactical sales books for founders.Resources Mentioned:Bocar Diahttps://www.linkedin.com/in/bocardia/Forum Ventures | LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/forumvc/Forum Ventures | Websitehttps://www.forumvc.com/"The Sales Acceleration Formula" by Mark Robergehttps://www.amazon.com/Sales-Acceleration-Formula-Technology-Inbound/dp/1119047072"Founding Sales" by Pete Kazanjyhttps://www.amazon.com/Founding-Sales-Go-Market-Handbook/dp/1734505117Winning by Designhttps://winningbydesign.com/resources/books/This episode is brought to you by:Leverage community-led growth to skyrocket your business. As adolescent introductions to motorcycling go, author and podcaster Ted Kettler's first two-wheel experience probably isn't unique. But, as he tells host Mark Long on this episode of the “Driven to Ride” podcast, that moment in time more than half a century ago left an indelible mark on his consciousness—in the shape of Harley-Davidson's iconic bar-and-shield logo, no less.“I can remember standing on the front seat of my mother's car,” he laughs. “We were at a traffic light and a motorcycle pulled up in the lane next to us. I said, “Wow! What's that?” And my mother said, “That's a Harley-Davidson.” I remember it was turquoise and white. Then, the light turned green and he took off. From that moment on, I was all about Harley-Davidson.”Kettler has hosted the “Motorcycle Men Podcast” for a decade, and in 2024, he published, “The Road Most Traveled: A Motorcycle Ride Along the East Coast of America.” Whereas most riders seek out the best back roads, Kettler set off on his trip with the polar-opposite intention: to follow the busiest highways, from the northeast to the Florida Keys. 10 motos de pruebas que me asustaron

Moto1Pro y EnduroPro Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 6, 2025 16:37

Aprilia XRV 550. Me pareció excesivamente rígida, dura, indomable, poco progresiva… Kawasaki ZZR1100. ¡no frenaba nada! Sencillamente, no soy un hombre “Harley”. Yamaha GTS 1000.

Scarcity Marketing Explained: Application in healthcare.

What if you positioned your practice like Tim Hortons in the land of Dunkin'?   By Editor-in-Chief, Concierge Medicine Today/Host, The DocPreneur Leadership Podcast   So, I'm riding shotgun with my teenage son who some of you have met, Matthew, riding through Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (yes, that's a real place in Canada—not a children's book or a lumberjack's nickname). We're up there visiting family when suddenly, Matthew blurts out: “Hey Dad! Look—Tim Hortons!” You'd think he'd spotted Bigfoot holding a maple donut.   Now, we live in the southeastern U.S.—where Tim Hortons isn't exactly on every corner like it is up north (oddly enough though, they just opened one of two here in Suwanee, GA and Columbus, GA -- so lucky us!). Around here however, it's all Dunkin' Donuts, Krispy Kreme and Waffle House. But to us? Tim Hortons is like spotting a unicorn running a drive-thru window. Which is precisely the point!   This, my friends, is called 'scarcity marketing.'   Scarcity marketing is when something becomes more desirable simply because it's rare, hard to get, or only available some of the time. Ever had Duck Donuts? Those of you who know, you know, right!?   It's psychology. It's strategy. It's genius—and yet, most physicians and practice administrators in healthcare don't use it.   Let's bring it back to your work more specifically in concierge medicine.   Scarcity is sort of baked into the concierge medicine model isn't it? After all, most concierge doctors cap their patient panel. Their not located everywhere and heck, sometimes the doctor only takes on only 500 patients a year. You're not walking into that kind of practice on a whim with your phone in one had and WebMD printout in the other.   But here's where it gets tricky: Post-COVID, patients discovered this magical thing called options. Telehealth exploded. Everyone became a semi-professional medical researcher on Instagram and TikTok. Suddenly, your patients didn't need to be within 10 miles to “see” a doctor. And now that we've entered the golden age of medical TikToks and YouTube health webinar gurus, even your great aunt knows how to self-diagnose using AI.   The result? Patients are more informed, but not necessarily more connected.   That's where you and your concierge practice come in and have the advantage.   Sure, while accessibility is great, it's created a weird paradox. The more available something is, the less valuable it feels. Just ask Blockbuster how that went.   On top of that, many low-cost primary care and "affordable" (think sub $99/pmpm) subscription-based practices still haven't fully bounced back from their pre-pandemic rhythm. Why? Because “urgent care is just easier,” or so they've been told. It's the fast-food equivalent of healthcare—convenient, but not memorable, right?   Even still today, some medical practices have dropped their prices in hopes of attracting more patients. But marketing by being “the cheapest” (oops, sorry, most affordable) often becomes a race to the bottom. Spoiler alert: there's not a trophy at the bottom -- maybe just some warm fuzzies though!   One industry expert we interviewed and spoke to recently (eg. summer 2025) said "You can't market “time,” “access,” or “care coordination” as part of your cash-based model. Those terms are legally sensitive under Medicare/OIG guidance and the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. What you can market — and what works — are routine exams and communications that are clearly defined and compliant. When structured properly, these can be part of a concierge-style offering without stepping over legal lines. And remember, most if not all of those published price versions of cash healthcare are not structuring their fees/services to allow for employer/tax-advantaged funding, and perhaps their lower prices are unintentionally reflecting that. Pre-tax and employer funding options allow for higher prices points, and can be used to provide versions of this care with 100% employer funding—that can enable more folks to benefit from this care model.” (Eischen; 2025) Bottom line of what he's saying is: You don't have to water down your value — just market it the right way. Stay away from vague “access” claims and focus on tangible, documentable services. His best advice, work with legal counsel specifically familiar with this space to keep your messaging clean and compliant. You can find a list of those resources at the 2025 Concierge Medicine Forum, October 16–18, 2025 in Atlanta, GA USA or in the Business Center Section of our web site found here.   So what does work? Connection. Community. Belonging.   Remember what the U.S. Surgeon General said not long ago? The fastest-growing health issue in America isn't cancer or heart disease. It's loneliness. Yep, good old-fashioned no-one-to-call-at-midnight loneliness. And get this—it's reportedly as dangerous as smoking 15 cigarettes a day!   So now imagine you're a concierge doctor, and instead of just offering same-day appointments, you're offering connection. Patients want to feel like someone cares—like someone is on their team. And if your practice can deliver that? You're not just healthcare. You're a lifeline!   For example, that's why medical practices leaning into longevity medicine are seeing a new kind of traction. Patients aren't just looking for a quick fix. They want a partner for the long haul—someone who's going to help them stay well into their 90s (with their original knees, preferably).   Here's another example. Scarcity marketing is not unlike Harley-Davidson.   Bear with me. I know we've moved from donuts to motorcycles, but stay with me for another minute.   Harley-Davidson isn't just selling bikes. They're selling identity, loyalty, and a tight-knit community. People literally tattoo the brand on their bodies. They created H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) to foster community. Similar to what Concierge Medicine Today has done with its FOR Doctors message. It's Harley's way of saying, “You're in the club. You belong.” And it works. That's scarcity marketing at its finest: “Not everyone gets to be a part of this. But you do!”   It's not exclusive though. There's a difference. Don't confuse the two which is often why concierge medicine gets the side eye in some circles.   Now ask yourself: What if your medical practice operated with the same mindset? What if you positioned your practice like Tim Hortons in the land of Dunkin'? What if instead of chasing volume, you created value—and made people (i.e. patients!) work just a little to be part of something special and personal?   That's the future of patient relationships, longevity and concierge medicine I think intersect.   And yes, we'll be diving into this and more at our upcoming 2025 Concierge Medicine Forum, October 16–18, 2025 in Atlanta. It's the Tim Hortons of medical conferences—rare, warm, slightly addictive, and worth the trip!   In the meantime, don't just market with more noise. Market with meaning. Don't aim to be everywhere. Aim to matter somewhere.   So again I ask … What if you positioned your practice like Tim Hortons in the land of Dunkin'?   Disclaimers: THIS SITE AND ANY OTHER CMT MANAGED OR OWNED WEB PROPERTY by Concierge Medicine Today, LLC (herein CMT) DOES NOT OFFER MEDICAL, FINANCIAL, LEGAL, OR OTHER PROFESSIONAL ADVICE. #coldcase #missingperson #truecrimecommunityTonight, we are joined by members of TEAMSTEFANIE, Bobbi and Stacey as we revisit the case of Stefanie Damron who's been missing for over 300 days.Stefanie Damron, a 14-year-old girl from New Sweden, Maine, vanished on September 23, 2024, under troubling circumstances. She was last seen leaving her home after a disagreement with her sister, walking into the dense woods along West Road. Concerned for her safety, her family reported her missing the very next day. At the time of her disappearance, Stefanie was described as petite, standing at 5 feet tall and weighing around 130 pounds. She had shoulder-length brown hair and striking green eyes, and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a long-sleeved blue shirt, and distinctive black Harley Davidson hiking boots, which may aid in identifying her.In the wake of her disappearance, extensive search operations were launched by both the Maine State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. These efforts included thorough land searches, interviews with potential witnesses, and the pursuit of leads that extended beyond Maine, reaching into other parts of the United States and even Canada. Despite these comprehensive measures, Stefanie has not been found, leaving her family and the community in a state of distress. Local residents have rallied together, organizing vigils and search initiatives to support Stefanie's family and to keep her story alive, hoping to generate new leads that could lead to her safe return. In December 2024, the FBI took a significant step by announcing a reward of up to $15,000 for any information that could lead to Stefanie's safe return or the identification and prosecution of those responsible for her disappearance. The Bureau also placed her on their Most Wanted Kidnappings and Missing Persons list, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of the case. SAP's Tim Hoppin on why emotional storytelling belongs in B2B

B2B marketing has long been stuck with a somewhat boring reputation: rational, buttoned-up and forgettable. Tim Hoppin is on a mission to change that. As chief brand and creative officer at SAP, he's helping one of the world's largest software companies embrace big creative swings — and prove that business buyers are humans too. Episode TranscriptPlease note, this transcript  may contain minor inconsistencies compared to the episode audio. Damian Fowler (00:00):I'm Damian Fowler.Ilyse Liffreing (00:02):And I'm Ilyse Liffreing. And welcome to this edition of The Big Impression.(00:09):You might be wondering, wait, what? Isn't this The Current Podcast? I'm here to listen to brand marketers talk about the highs and lows of their brand campaign. I know I am. Well, rest assured, we've just had a little bit of a brand refresh. We're now the big impression, andDamian Fowler (00:27):That's official shout out to our creative team for the new name, which I really love actually.Ilyse Liffreing (00:32):So without further ado, let's kick off this new season with a great guest.Damian Fowler (00:39):And today we are delighted to be joined by Tim Hoppin, the chief brand and creative officer at SAP.Ilyse Liffreing (00:45):Now, SAP makes software that helps big companies run everything from payroll to supply chains, all in one integrated system. It was recently hailed by brand Z as a 23rd most valuable brand on the planet.Damian Fowler (01:00):And no doubt, some of that's thanks to Tim. He's a brand builder who spearheaded the tech company's recent B2B campaign, unstoppable, which was shortlisted at this year's Cannes Lion, and that's where we sat down with him. So we're going to start out with this sort of philosophical frame. Ryan, you have said that a brand must influence everything a company makes, says and does. Could you explain that philosophy a little bit?Tim Hoppin (01:29):Yeah, sure. I think a lot of people even just kind of reduce it down to branding, like the colors and things like that and maybe the expression a little bit. But the way I think about a brand transmits meaning to people, and it does that through lots of different formats. So when I say what a brand is, what you make, you're actually affecting the service or the product that you're actually delivering to the world. So my classic example is Harley Davidson. Those motorcycles don't use plastic and they do that very specifically because they want the brand to be expressed a certain way in products. And then when I say a brand is what a company says, that's your marketing, your communication, and then what you do is your activations, your choices on what kind of companies you're going to invest in and so on and so forth. But it's all three.Ilyse Liffreing (02:25):Yeah. Can you walk us through your recent SAP campaign, which I believe is called Unstoppable?Tim Hoppin (02:31):The campaign was built to communicate a new way we're going to market with our products, which is bringing together all the different parts of the software that we make. We tie together, we call it the SAP Business suite, and we're dramatizing it with sort of metaphors that bring it to life. For instance, sometimes if you're in business and you're in charge of something, like being head of it could feel like you're literally underwater. So we recreated what literally happens when the entire office goes underwater. So we filmed the entire office submerged underwater, and people are trying to go about their business. And of course at the end we introduced our product, which kind of drains it and gets things back to normal. And another example, sometimes when you're trying to innovate, it's like an uphill battle. So you start off and the entire building tilts on its side and we kind of go in this metaphor world where the COO is trying to march up a hill and things are coming at her and she's trying to dodge it. So they're all metaphors that we can kind of associate, but they're also very real stories. Every one of 'em is based on an actual customer story.Ilyse Liffreing (03:47):Very fun. What would you say are the key consumer business insights behind this campaign?Tim Hoppin (03:54):Yes, because purely B2B, our research is a little bit, you have to be more precise in getting those insights. So a lot of it has to do with doing interviews because there's not like a survey you're going to send out to a bunch of CFOs or CEOs and they're going to respond. They're pretty busy people. But we can do other things like get some individual interviews. We do quant studies as well as well, but it's easier to get real insights when you actually talk to real people. So more like anthropology research, I'd say, than sort of traditional marketing broad surveys.Ilyse Liffreing (04:35):Some people might say that emotional storytelling and B2B business campaigns are almost like a oxymoron of sorts. Is that at a conundrum would you say,Tim Hoppin (04:51):How many times have you seen a piece of content that's using just stock imagery talking about functional stuff and you just ignore it? And so there's this perception that that's what everybody wants and does. We are seeing a renaissance in B2B where emotional, strong, insight-driven work is what works. And so I think you're going to see more and more of that as people realize that it actually is more effective.Damian Fowler (05:22):It's interesting to me that the B2B is being put out on what you might consider consuming channels. I'm just curious to hear your take on why that was important and basically how did you activate this campaign and where did you want to put it?Tim Hoppin (05:38):Yeah, so our media team and working with their agency took the brief that we're trying to do two things. We're trying to both lead people that are maybe in market ready to buy, lead them into our ecosystem and get in touch with our salespeople. But we also recognize that SAP as a 50 plus year old company has some perceptions out there and we need to constantly reeducate the marketplace about who we are, what we stand for, and then also present ourselves to the next generation. 71% of all B2B buyers are either millennials or Gen Z, 71%.Damian Fowler (06:20):Wow, that's a amount.Tim Hoppin (06:22):Yeah, it's a lot. So to become and stay relevant, even as the world's largest enterprise software company, you can't rest on your laurels. So some of those media tactics, like being in airports or some television buys in very targeted ways is designed to get broad enough reach so that we can get people familiar with us and start to understand what we stand for so that when they're ready to buy, they're not just hearing about us for the first time. And then of course we're looking at the real data, what's happening out there? Happy to say that all of our creative work has got five stars, or hybrid is the highest you can get the system one, we're beating every industry benchmark. And then in market, the performance that we're seeing in the market is also way above all of our benchmarks. So we're excited because as we like to say, if creative doesn't work, it's not working.Ilyse Liffreing (07:14):Was there an insight that you say you took away?Tim Hoppin (07:18):I had a strong hypothesis that there would be some disruption just from visually the way the campaign is presented, especially the films. I think the thing that's really surprised me as we did our research, what a chord. It's striking with people. There's one comment that came through just from the qual study that we did where people were saying, you finally get me. Not only is the content visually arresting, but emotionally resonant, people really feel seen. And to your comment earlier about like, Hey, B2B is seen as traditional and there's such a, I'd say a traditional and sort of safe approach to just use business people doing businessy things and boats and cars moving fast and satellites flying by the camera and putting a logo at theIlyse Liffreing (08:14):End. I've seen that one. Yeah.Tim Hoppin (08:15):Yeah, I've made that one unfortunately. But to really take this risk and tell interesting stories that are based on real human insights and have emotion and are disruptive and have the very people that we're trying to reach go, thank you, thank you for seeing us, telling us a story that's different. I have this saying, if you want to be disruptive, you actually have to disrupt. And so there's also sort of a hungered SAP, we have to reinvent ourselves. We are in our product and our go-to market. And so the brand platform that we created over the last three years, now this is the next level, is taking the campaign higher. So I think we're on this momentum of transformation, and so it just felt natural to do it. And the way we're investing the does part's also coming true, frankly, the way we're investing in AI and kind of transforming what's possible from a 50 plus year old company. It's exciting.Ilyse Liffreing (09:12):Let's talk a little bit about ai.Tim Hoppin (09:14):Yeah, sure.Ilyse Liffreing (09:15):On that note, how are you guys investing in AI and what do you foresee(09:16): Damian Fowler (09:23):Creation play? Yeah, as a creative person, do you feel threatened by it orTim Hoppin (09:26):Not at all.Damian Fowler (09:29):Jump on your question. That is the question.Tim Hoppin (09:31):Yeah, it's the question of the week. Big question. It's come up so much. Actually, I was talking about this the other day.Ilyse Liffreing (09:35):You're probably tired of people talking about it.Tim Hoppin (09:38):No, I actually think what's been really refreshing is two things, always the first part of your question, which is as a company, we are basically transforming into a data and AI company. I think pretty much anybody who's going to survive has to do that. So we've made software for 50 years, but what all the companies that run on our platforms, it's the data that's the most valuable part, of course. And so the AI that we've developed is allowing people to run their businesses completely different ways. So we're investing in that as a creative person.(10:14):We're also starting to experiment with ai, for instance, trying to understand how people might react to our messages. I don't think that AI is going to replace creatives, but I think creatives are going to have to change. So you're going to have to act more like a director than a executor. I remember when I started in the business a few years ago, 25 ish, I remember the people who were still laying down typography by hand and everything. Every piece of printed material was proofed. The proofs would come into the agency and people were looking at it. And so all those people's jobs changed. And that's all this is. Human creativity will not and cannot be replicated, but it will require us to get better at being creative and know how to use these new tools.Ilyse Liffreing (11:10):Yeah, that's a great answer. We've transformed so much in 25 years. It's kind of bafflingDamian Fowler (11:18):Completely. Yeah.Ilyse Liffreing (11:19):So you're an agency guy. It does seem that B2B is getting better. Is it because of all these agency folks moving in? How?Tim Hoppin (11:30):Yeah, I think so. We're seeing, look, the agency world has changed and is contracting in some ways and it's really tough, but also it's creating opportunities for those same creative talents to move. And so it becomes a, I'd say rebalancing. I remember early in my career if you worked in a in-house agency, it was sort of looked down on like you're just not good enough for a real creative job, which was totally mean and not nice. But that was the perception. And now it's completely not that Some of the best work that's being produced is coming from in-house agencies. So you're seeing a migration from, and frankly, it's caused by clients. So clients are reducing what they're willing to pay agencies, which puts economic pressure on the agencies and they have to downsize. And then those great talented people need to pay their mortgage and put their kids through college and they're coming in house. And so my team is almost exclusively on my creative group, our exag agency people. And that's what I am too. And so that actually makes us better clients so we can work with our agencies and we know how to work with them and who they are, and sometimes we even know them from past lives. So it just makes the work better all around.Ilyse Liffreing (12:52):Is there anything in the creative realm that you're looking at or data about creativity that you think brands should co-op for B2B campaigns?Tim Hoppin (13:05):Yeah, I absolutely, interestingly, as we've seen this sort of spike in the AI chatter and everybody talking about it and sort of wringing their hands about what it's going to do for our jobs, there's been sort of a pushback in a really healthy way where people are saying, actually no humanity and really putting AI in its place, which is, it's just another tool. Yes, it's going to disrupt jobs. That is a true statement 100%, but it's not going to replace human creativity. And so as I said before, that reality is getting people back to what's important, which is storytelling, human storytelling, creativity, finding those interesting combinations that only humans can do. And that's where you're starting to see that come to life in B2B marketing is that, I said it earlier, I think it's a bit of a renaissance and a not cheesy way.Ilyse Liffreing (14:05):We have some last minute Rapid, rapid and fire, fire.Tim Hoppin (14:08):And this is your homeDamian Fowler (14:08):Stretch. Oh yeah, stretch. Stretch. Is there anything, Tim, that you're obsessed with figuring out right now?Tim Hoppin (14:17):Yeah, how to keep getting better. It's like I love seeing what people can do and I want to use new tools and new solutions. And so I'm trying to figure out where's all this AI stuff going to go and where's it going to be helpful? And how do you avoid the pit of generic communications that is a real threat from ai?Ilyse Liffreing (14:44):Did you have a favorite Cannes moment that made you stop and say, wow?Tim Hoppin (14:49):Yeah, I was in line for a session and there was a group of young lions, and this one kid, he had to be maybe 18, maybe 19, he still has his braces on, and he was so excited, so excited to be there and to go in. And I've been really worried that our industry doesn't have the next generation coming up. And I saw this kid and I was just so relieved that this kid was as excited about the start of his career as I was when I started. I mean, I would fall asleep with award animals to learn how to do this stuff better and that you could feel the energy from this kid. It was awesome.Damian Fowler (15:39):I'm so happy that a lot of students come to Cannes.Ilyse Liffreing (15:43):It is great. It fills your heart. Yeah, it does. It does.Damian Fowler (15:48):Last one.Ilyse Liffreing (15:49):So who beyond SAP, who else is doing B2B brand work very well in your view?Tim Hoppin (15:56):Well, GoDaddy won the Grand Prix for, I thought, a really fun piece of work, and it's targeted to small business, so I think you can be a little bit more courageous than sometimes we get to, but I just loved it for its wackiness and just audacious. And then also the way that they really just kind of carried across different mediums. The thing that was the best about it was they're trying to make the case for starting a small business, and they literally did that with a celebrity. It was brilliant.Ilyse Liffreing (16:41):And that's it for this edition of The Big Impression.Damian Fowler (16:44):This show is produced by Molten Hart. Our theme is by Love and caliber, and our associate producer is Sydney Cairns.Tim Hoppin (16:50):And remember, 71% of all B2B buyers are either millennials or Gen Z.Damian Fowler (16:57):I'm Damian. Personal Injury Attorney and Harley Davidson rider Paul Hernandez discusses what it means to be known in the Virginia motorcycle community. This is an excellent episode - if you are considering a niche, listen to every minute of this podcast at least once. We have talked about the benefits of niching down a few times before. We primarily discuss niching as a strategy to attract more clients in saturated markets. It also makes sense when you are a member of a community that is regularly at risk for catastrophic injury. This is especially true in the motorcycle riding community. Visit Attorney Paul Hernandez here: https://www.kalfusnachman.com/attorneys/paul-r-hernandez/. See all episodes or subscribe to the Personal Injury Marketing Minute here: https://optimizemyfirm.com/podcasts/. https://youtu.be/lsrcoWmAhOY   Transcript: Welcome to the personal injury marketing minute, where we quickly cover the hot topics in the legal marketing world. I'm your host, Lindsey Busfield. We have talked about the benefits of niching down a few times before. We primarily discuss niching as a strategy to attract more clients in saturated markets. It also makes sense when you're a member of a community that is regularly at risk for catastrophic injury. This is especially true in the motorcycle riding community. Now, every personal injury lawyer would love to have more motorcycle accident cases, but they seem impossible to regularly get through the door. However, Paul Hernandez: of Calphus and Nackman has figured out how to become the motorcycle accident lawyer throughout Virginia. He joins us today to share his insight. It's on what works and what doesn't. Thank you so much for joining us today, Paul.   Paul Hernandez: Thank you. Appreciate you inviting me.   Lindsey: Well, tell us a little bit about yourself and about your practice.   Paul Hernandez: Yeah, so I've been practicing 30 years. It's hard to believe that time flies so fast. We have a team of 16 lawyers here, and our staff's about 90 people. We started handling personal injury cases. We do personal injury. We do longshore and workers' compensation, and we do social security disability. But we have a special area, a special division at our firm, and that is our Law Tigers division. We're a Law Tigers group. We're part of that group. But I have a specific group of people who handle all of our motorcycle crashes, and it's a select team of people. So if it's an investigator, if it's a paralegal, if it's a lawyer, if it's a negotiator, it doesn't matter. Everybody rides. Everybody's in the community. Everybody supports the community. So, you know, what is our firm? We do handle cases. I'm licensed in North Carolina and Virginia, and we have people licensed in Maryland and D.C. and things of that nature. But, you know, our big part is Virginia. And by handling motorcycle cases, you know, we've really become experts and specialists in that field. And everybody can't do that. But I know we're going to talk about that in a little while. But that's a little bit about who Calpus Enactment is. The firm has been around for over 45 years. So it's a great ride, to be honest with you. I'll be honest with you. I love coming to work every single day.   Lindsey: And that's the best job to have, you know, regardless of what industry you work in, regardless of what sector, legal sector you work in. If you are loving what you do, then you are going to be serving your clients in absolutely the best capacity. And this is clearly a passion for you because you're a part of the motorcycle community.   Paul Hernandez: So the big question, the most important question. Of course, what kind of bike do you ride? And how long have you been riding? Right. So it's funny. said, what type of bike do you ride? What type of bike do you like to ride? Right? So I have been riding. Oh,

In this podcast episode, we talk about the Mueller Power Clutch 2.0.  If you've ridden a modern Harley-Davidson motorcycle equipped with a cable clutch system, you probably know how fatiguing that clutch pull can get—especially during slow-speed maneuvers, stop-and-go traffic, or long days in the saddle. In this article, we'll introduce you to a game-changing upgrade: the Mueller Power Clutch 2.0. We'll also walk you through the key elements involved in upgrading your cable clutch system without getting bogged down in every bolt turn. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE If you're riding an '18 and newer Softail or '21 and newer Touring model, chances are your clutch cable includes a cheap plastic inline adjuster. Not only is this piece prone to failure (and can even leave you stranded), but it also offers minimal fine-tune capability—just a red button that automatically adjusts based on spring tension. It's more “auto-manual” than anything else. The Solution: Mueller Power Clutch 2.0 Welcome to the Mueller Power Clutch 2.0, a precision-engineered German-made upgrade that transforms your clutch feel. This system replaces the stock plastic housing with durable aluminum components and an adjuster. And adds a custom ramp mechanism internally. The result? Up to 45% lighter clutch pull Smoother, more linear engagement Enhanced fine-tuning of friction zone Elimination of plastic components that commonly fail Whether you're dealing with arthritis, small hands, or just want to reduce fatigue on long rides or during training drills, this upgrade is a must-have. Specifically, Anthony discusses:(05:25) Startups replace brute-force growth with RevOps to boost revenue per FTE.(15:49) Most teams underinvest in the brand despite its long-term impact.(20:29) Use a data warehouse — not your CRM — for unified reporting.(25:18) Clay transforms RevOps with scalable, integrated data enrichment.(30:48) Default uses AI to route leads and trigger workflows across tools.(35:42) Amplemarket targets fundraisers and job changes with precise outreach.(40:28) AI is most effective when humans fine-tune for quality and authenticity.(44:44) Early days are easiest — scaling means harder niches and messaging.(54:46) Bootstrapping forced them to hire fewer, better people and build processes early.(01:03:33) A solo GTM dashboard tracks pipeline, ops and conversion rates.Resources Mentioned:Anthony Enricohttps://www.linkedin.com/in/anthonyenrico/LeanScale | LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/leanscale/LeanScale | Websitehttps://www.leanscale.teamAmplemarkethttps://www.amplemarket.com/Clayhttps://www.clay.com/Ocean.iohttp://ocean.ioDefaulthttps://www.default.com/ChurnZerohttps://churnzero.com/Riversidehttps://riverside.fm/This episode is brought to you by:Leverage community-led growth to skyrocket your business. The Power of Differentiation with Barry LaBov: How Iconic Brands Stand Out and Succeed

Breakfast Leadership

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 7, 2025 26:48

In this powerful conversation, Michael D. Levitt and branding expert Barry LaBov explore the critical role of differentiation in today's hyper-competitive and fast-moving business world. It's not about being the biggest or best in every category—it's about being unmistakably you. The Human Edge of Differentiation Barry opens with a compelling take: while modern tools have made producing fast, mediocre content easier, what sets brands apart today is authenticity and humanity. He warns that failing to stand out leads to commoditization, lower profits, and disengaged teams. The takeaway? Know what makes you unique—and amplify it with intention. Purpose Starts with "Who Are We?" Michael shares a story from a nonprofit healthcare board meeting where a simple but profound question was raised: “Who are we?” That moment sparked a conversation about alignment, identity, and clarity. He reminds leaders to pause regularly, assess direction, and stay grounded in purpose. Barry echoes this, referencing Simon Sinek's “Start With Why,” but adds: you also need to clearly explain what you do and how it fulfills that purpose. Belief Begins Within Barry shifts the focus inward, discussing how employee belief in a company's mission and differentiation directly impacts its longevity—citing that 16 of 17 startups fail within 10 years. His latest book, written during the COVID-era resignation wave, focuses on helping companies win hearts and minds through internal and external clarity. Real-world stories and practical frameworks help teams rediscover what makes them special. Small Shifts, Big Impact Michael dives into adaptability with a brilliant metaphor: changing the lighting in a room can completely alter its feel without replacing the furniture. In the same way, businesses often need thoughtful tweaks—not complete reinventions. He also addresses current workplace trends—like post-2021 turnover and return-to-office debates—urging leaders to listen to their people and lead with empathy and internal communication. Say It Like You Mean It Wrapping up, Barry and Michael discuss how language shapes culture. Self-deprecating phrases like “best kept secret” can quietly undermine confidence inside and outside the organization. Instead, leaders should communicate honestly and boldly about their value—without veering into ego. Michael even mentions recommending Barry's book to a client struggling with this exact challenge. Key Takeaways: True differentiation stems from authenticity, not superiority. Purpose is revealed by asking the hard questions—internally and externally. Your team must believe in what sets your organization apart. Minor shifts in leadership and culture can produce major results. How you describe your business matters—internally and externally.

Police In Milwaukee The Violent Crime No One Talks About. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, known affectionately as “Cream City,” “Brew City,” and “The City of Festivals”, holds a cherished place in American culture. Many still associate Milwaukee with the hit sitcom "Laverne & Shirley", set in a 1950s brewery where two spirited friends tackled life's ups and downs. But beyond the nostalgia and vibrant social scene lies a darker reality, one that rarely makes headlines: the violent crime in Milwaukee no one talks about. This episode of The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast now streaming for free on their website, in addition to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major social podcast platforms. “People picture the festivals, the lakefront, and maybe a Harley-Davidson roaring down the road,” says Patrick O'Donnell, a retired Milwaukee Police Sergeant turned author and podcaster. “But the violent crime? That doesn't make the postcards.” The episode is also promoted across their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. Indeed, Milwaukee's crime statistics tell a sobering story. Once ranked among the ten most dangerous large cities in the U.S. in 2001 and 2007, Milwaukee continues to grapple with high rates of homicide, robbery, and aggravated assault. In 2015 alone, 146 people were murdered, a chilling figure that few outside the city are aware of. Police In Milwaukee The Violent Crime No One Talks About. Look for supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . Patrick O'Donnell knows these streets well. Born to Irish immigrant parents in Chicago, O'Donnell served for 25 years in the Milwaukee Police Department. “I've been on the scene of everything you can imagine, from homicides to sexual assaults and robberies,” he shares. “When I was still in field training, I arrested a suspect at gunpoint during a stabbing investigation. That one turned into a death investigation.” Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms Today, O'Donnell channels his experience into his "Cops and Writers" brand. Which includes his "Cops and Writers Podcast", available on Apple, Spotify, and his official website, offers crime writers a behind-the-scenes look at police work. He interviews cops, civilian experts, and authors, blending technical detail with the kind of cop humor that can only come from years on the job. “I want crime writers to get it right,” O'Donnell says. “And I want listeners to understand what really happens behind the badge.” The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. O'Donnell has authored ten books, with "The Good Collar" his latest and he runs a Facebook group with over 7,500 members. His reach extends across social media, from Facebook to Instagram, where he connects with fans, writers, and fellow officers. “Social media gives us a way to shine a light on the parts of policing that the news doesn't cover,” he explains. Police In Milwaukee The Violent Crime No One Talks About. You can listen to his stories and interview on our website for free in addition to platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and other major podcast platforms. The "Cops and Writers Podcast" isn't just about crime statistics; it's about the stories behind the numbers. O'Donnell's guests open up about the pressures and triumphs of life in uniform. “It's the human side of policing that no one talks about,” O'Donnell says. While Milwaukee is home to major corporations like Harley-Davidson, Rockwell Automation, and Johnson Controls, and boasts a rich cultural and industrial history, violent crime remains a challenge. “Milwaukee is a great city, but like any big city, it has its struggles,” O'Donnell reflects. “That's the reality behind the social media snapshots.” The full podcast episode is streaming now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. For those looking to understand Milwaukee beyond its breweries and festivals, O'Donnell's work provides an unflinching look at the violent crime no one talks about. His books, podcast, and social media channels offer an authentic voice in a conversation often overshadowed by lighter headlines. You can follow Patrick O'Donnell's journey on his official website, join his Facebook group, or tune in to his podcast "Cops and Writers" or listen to the interview with him as a free Podcast on The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or most places where you get your podcasts.
