This week on The Filmmakers Podcast, hosts Conor Boru and Francis Annan welcome two icons of the filmmaking world: producer, writer and director Chris Columbus, and Academy Award-winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley. Chris Columbus – the creative force behind classics such as Home Alone, Mrs Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter films – shares his experiences of working with visionary directors like Robert Eggers, his approach to shaping scripts as a director, and the importance of collaboration with actors. He also reflects on the role of rehearsals, the unique magic of making films for the big screen, the movies that continue to inspire him, and why he believes there is so much to learn from the new generation of filmmakers. Sir Ben Kingsley – whose career spans over five decades with landmark performances in Gandhi, Schindler's List and Sexy Beast – discusses the inspirations that continue to fuel his craft. He speaks about his Shakespearean roots, the nuances of performing for stage versus screen, and offers invaluable insights for emerging actors looking to build their careers. One major outlet says the Texans' top receiving tandem isn't any better than 16th in the league — is that fair, and do they even need a true “tandem” to succeed? Plus, Figgy's Mixtape features catfishing for fishing hot spots, Macaulay Culkin on Home Alone, and more offbeat stories.
Most pet owners will tell you that in an ideal world you'd spend all day with your four-legged friend, but in reality, life and work can often get in the way. Well, Australia is looking to do something about that with potential new laws that could see dog owners having to spend at least three hours with their pets every day - regardless of any other commitments. That got us thinking about the best environment for your pets; dogs, cats, chickens and hamsters. Megan Alderson from Auckland's The Strand Veterinarian is here to share her views.

Back on this day in 2009 screenwriter and director John Hughes passed away. He gave us many classics including, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "The Breakfast Club", "Planes, Trains and Automobiles", and "Home Alone". KTAR Timeline is brought to you by Beatitudes Campus.
On August 6, 2009, John Hughes — the filmmaker whose heartfelt, hilarious, and deeply human stories captured the soul of American adolescence — died suddenly of a heart attack while taking a morning walk in Manhattan at the age of 59. With classics like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles, he turned teen angst and suburban life into timeless art. As a writer and producer, he shaped pop culture with hits like Pretty in Pink and Home Alone, leaving behind stories filled with sincerity, wit, and the kind of truth that still resonates decades later. In the late '80s, John Candy's hit a rough patch with a string of underwhelming films—Hot to Trot, Speed Zone, and Who's Harry Crumb. But a creative reunion with John Hughes soon put him back on track, leading to some of the most memorable roles of his career. In this episode, we chart Candy's quiet resurgence and surprising pivot into sports ownership, as he becomes a co-owner of the Toronto Argonauts and proves there's always more than one way to steal the show.John Candy: The Lou Gehrig of Comedy is a series that honours the timeless humour and heartfelt performances of John Candy, star of hits like Splash, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and Home Alone.Follow us on our socials: Instagram, Bluesky, LinkedIn, YouTube & SubstackWritten & Hosted by Ryan BarnettProduced by Ryan Barnett & Sonia GemmitiRecorded by Tyler RaumanAdditional voices by Matthew Barnett & Sean QuinlanA Knockabout Media ProductionAdditional audio material:Later with Bob Costas, Late Night with David Letterman, Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Columbia Pictures, CBC. My guest is an actress and talent manager who is perhaps best known for her role in the Home Alone movie franchise. We discuss her memories of appearing in Home Alone, how she transitioned to talent manager, things she's coped with in her life, and much more.
Good morning & welcome to Thursday! We kicked things off with the Thursday Song, and later in the morning, we talked to Office Cora about what she's up to this weekend in the 715! Always fun to talk to her. In the news this morning, the air quality in Wisconsin continues to be an issue with the Canadian wildfires burning out of control, Judge Ramona Gonzalez is officially leaving the courtroom, a recall on some High Noon beverages after a labeling error, some protestors left a fake coffin at a Congressman's door, and a Wisconsin man pleads guilty to smuggling lab equipment to Russian companies. In sports, the Brewers lost to the Cubs yesterday in the final game of that series, the NFL Hall of Fame game is tonight on NBC, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas got arrested for allegedly running an illegal casino at one of his homes, and Vince McMahon got into an accident while driving his Bentley. Elsewhere in sports, the NBA announced it's overseas schedule for next season, TNT is going ALL-IN on the Savannah Bananas, and the World Athletics Council announced that athletes wishing to compete in female categories at the World Championships are required to undergo a "once-in-a-lifetime test" for eligibility. It's "Hypothetical Thursday" and Jean's question for Brian was: "If you had to give up your sense of smell or your sense of taste…which would you choose?" Meanwhile, Brian's question for Jean was: "What's one thing you'd change about me(Brian)" Cool story about a woman in Montreal who's picking up trash around the city and raising money for the local animal shelter. Michael Phelps may be done competing at the Olympics, but that doesn't mean he's staying out of the pool. Especially when the Baltimore Ravens need some help teaching some of their players how to swim! And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about radioactive wasps, a guy with a LOT of weed in his car, another side-effect of taking Ozempic, a teenager who got "Home Alone'd" by his family, and a woman who had her car repossessed decided to take matters into her own hands.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In Who Knew, Barry Diller tells his story for the first time (and what a story it is). In a career spanning six extraordinary decades, Barry Diller has become one of the most successful executives in media history. Diller's ascent was meteoric, launching ABC-TV's Movie of the Week at age twenty-seven, becoming CEO of Paramount Pictures at age thirty-two, and launching the Fox TV network at age forty-four. Along the way, Diller oversaw the production of classic films such as Saturday Night Fever, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Home Alone and hit TV shows such as The Simpsons, Married…with Children, and Cops. Along the way Diller tangoed with movie stars and moguls, using his unique management acumen to set the table on his terms. He went on to develop some of the most successful online businesses in the world, including Expedia, Match, and Angi. Indeed, Diller's media savvy changed the course of American culture. While successful professionally, Diller struggled personally. In Who Knew, he reveals the extent of those struggles with astonishing candor before finding his “unique and complete love,” Diane Von Furstenberg. Intimate, candid, and moving, Who Knew is a memoir filled with heart, imbued with humility, and infused with wisdom.

You stumbled in—blame the algorithm or my creepy grin from Smile 3: Frown Turn (just kidding… maybe). This week's Summer Slash gets unhinged fast: We break down The Creeping Flesh, where Peter Cushing injects monster goo into his daughter and expects therapy to work. Spoiler: it doesn't. Meanwhile, Christopher Lee torments patients and we try to make sense of the movie's time loops and pub dances. Then, Saw 3D slices its way into the mix with recycled traps, twisted beef, and bad 3D—because we're doing all the 7s this summer, no matter how dull the blade. Also: Frankie Freako drops like Garbage Pail Kids meets Gremlins with Home Alone rage traps—zany, gross, and a little dimensional. Plus, why Toxic Avenger is going unrated at Comic-Con, what's up with Mr. Melvin, and why Tow might be the most underrated hit of the year.Binge now. Binge later. Binge never. Just don't inject yourself with monster flesh.Headspace – Get 14 days FREE: Meditations, sleepcasts, focus tools, and more. https://bit.ly/4eCH2dA Hulu – Binge classic and current horror FREE for 30 days. https://tr.ee/Ul1i-qP1ot Frankie Freako – Available on Digital July 14th. Wells is living his very own Home Alone while Sarah's off on a "no boys allowed" trip to France. Is he losing his mind? Highly likely. Between dodging clothing bombs, lighting every candle in the house, and skipping his blood pressure meds, let's just say… he's whelmed. Meanwhile, Brandi's finally back after 7 straight weeks of gigs and chaos. Adulting is hard... 0/10, do not recommend. But she comes prepared with tales of accidental sex clubs, butter tits tank top recommendations, and a stacked list of favorite things. Next week is the return of Bachelor in Paradise! So, prepare yourselves for the BIP content shift here on YFT. And it's your lucky day cause we've got voicemails from an ex-Mormon with a grammar vendetta and a listener with a big ol' “F*ck You” for the state of Georgia. It's a lot. But it's a good lot.
