In this episode, we're talking about how America has real leadership again under Trump's administration, the importance of deporting illegal immigrants to restore law and order, and why we need to confirm RFK Jr. for the good of American health and wellbeing. We'll break down the policies that actually put America first, expose the chaos that's unfolded since, and discuss how we can push for real positive change for our country. We also need to focus on how we (desperately) need a separation of business and state.—https://noblegoldinvestments.com/invest/gold-ira/

Welcome back, America. Welcome back to the hottest summer on record. Literally and figuratively. The planet is on fire, our politics are on fire and we're only getting started. And because of that reason, we're going to do something we haven't done since we started Righteous Media and all of the offshoot projects we've created along the way. We're going to take a break. We're going to shut it down for one week so we can recharge our batteries, clear our heads, and prepare ourselves for the shitshow that will be this fall. But before we take a break, we've got one more pod to help you get through the dog days of summer. Welcome back to our groundbreaking “Meet The 2024 Independent Candidates” series—highlighting independent candidates of all kinds, for all levels of office, from all across America. Here comes the “Normal Computing” news of the week! What is “Normal Computing”? Stuff about Microsoft, Apple, Google, and the like. Big Tech. The “Big 5”. Mainstream. You know. “Normal”.Microsoft drops “Office” name… “Microsoft is now 365”In “well that's a dumb idea” news… Microsoft is officially killing off their “Microsoft Office” branding — which has been a cornerstone of the company for over 30 years — and renamed their office suite… “Microsoft 365”.As someone who worked on the Microsoft Office development team for many years, I have thoughts:* You use “Microsoft Office” to do “Office” stuff. What do you do with “Microsoft 365”? 365 stuff?* Everyone knows the “MS Office” brand. Ditching it is stupid.* The marketing and product executives at Microsoft clearly have too much time on their hands, and nothing to do.* In short: This is dumb.Apple makes new, colored iPads with USB-C“We're so excited to bring the completely redesigned iPad to our most advanced iPad lineup ever,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “With a large 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, powerful A14 Bionic chip, a first-ever landscape front camera, fast wireless connectivity, USB-C, and support for incredible accessories like the new Magic Keyboard Folio, the new iPad delivers more value, more versatility — and is simply more fun.”Quick thoughts:* USB-C! Huzzah!* They moved the front facing camera to make it more logical. Good move.* Colors are cool. Reminds me of when the iMacs got multiple colors.* Strangely, it appears the stylus (Apple Pencil) is not USB-C. So it needs an adapter. Odd. This seems like it must be temporary.* Still no expandable storage.* Still no replaceable battery.Prices start at $449 (without the stylus or keyboard) and go up from there.GitHub Copilot InvestigationA new website has launched to collect stories of people who believe their licenses and copyrights have been violated by Microsoft's GitHub Copilot.“We're investigating a potential lawsuit against GitHub Copilot for violating its legal duties to open-source authors and end users.”“Microsoft and OpenAI must be relying on a fair-use argument. In fact we know this is so, because former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman claimed during the Copilot technical preview that “training [machine-learning] systems on public data is fair use”.Well—is it? The answer isn't a matter of opinion; it's a matter of law. Naturally, Microsoft, OpenAI, and other researchers have been promoting the fair-use argument. Nat Friedman further asserted that there is “jurisprudence” on fair use that is “broadly relied upon by the machine[-]learning community”. But Software Freedom Conservancy disagreed, and pressed Microsoft for evidence to support its position. According to SFC director Bradley Kuhn:”“[W]e inquired privately with Friedman and other Microsoft and GitHub representatives in June 2021, asking for solid legal references for GitHub's public legal positions … They provided none.”Firefox version 106 gets… sneaker features? The One-Hundred and Sixth major version of Firefox came out this week. What's new?* Editing PDF's within Firefox.* Text recognition from images (on macOS).* Swipe navigation on Linux. But the big feature that Mozilla is touting? They partnered with a sneaker maker to promote… feelings? Or colors? Or something?“‘Independent Voices' are the voices of the past and present that create a better future,” Lascio said. “I chose this as my inspiration for the collaboration because it feels authentic to me but it also aligns with Firefox and the vision that we can make the world better, on the internet and beyond.” - Keely Lascio, Street-wear and sneaker designerThis new feature lets you tell Firefox that you are… an… “Activist”… with a “balanced intensity”… which… makes… the window border… blue? Thanks to… sneakers? This is clearly what we call a “Killer Feature” of a web browser.Oh. And they also added “Firefox View”. Which nobody will ever use.Thank you for reading and listening to The Lunduke Journal of Technology. This post is public so feel free to share it. Stymied in Kyiv, Russia seems to be turning its focus to Ukraine's south and east. Meanwhile, Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta says it will cease operations until the conflict is over.
In Episode 223 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with Doomberg, an anonymous publisher and the proprietor of a bespoke consulting firm that provides advisory services to family offices and c-suite executives. The firm's principals apply their decades of experience across heavy industry, private equity, and finance to deliver innovative thinking and clarity to complex problems. In the first hour of today's conversation, Demetri and Doomberg discuss how to build a successful publishing company and what it takes to cultivate an audience in today's decentralized, networked economy and fragmented media ecosystem. They discuss what that process has been like for the Doomberg team, what goes into building a brand from scratch, and the opportunities that have emerged for independent voices, and how to capitalize on them. In the second hour, they transition into a conversation about cancel culture, the power of platforms vs. audiences, and what it means to have a dedicated group of followers who are willing to go to defend you in the event that you end up in the crosshairs of the censors or a mob of activists. Demetri and Doomberg also discuss some of the topics that he writes about on his doomberg.substack.com page, including America's and Europe's energy policies, why he thinks they don't work, and what it will take in order to fix them. The two end with a more macro-oriented conversation about inflation and the influence of the economy on asset markets vs. the influence of monetary policy and which one is really in the driver's seat. It’s GCSE results day... except this year - no-one sat the exams. After grade A, A-Level confusion with students finding themselves down-graded by an algorithm and losing university places, the Government made a U-turn and dropped the system ahead of today’s GCSE results. This came as a big relief to 16 year old Kritika who collects her grades today. But, with results now based significantly on teacher assessments and predicted grades, she’s worried it still might affect black and ethnic minority students the hardest. Kuba Shand-Baptiste, Commissioning Editor and columnist for Independent Voices, the opinion section of The Independent, joins Kritika and VENT host Amelia to talk this one out. This episode was produced by the VENT Production Team: Rose de Larrabeiti, Lucas Fothergill, Jess Lawson and Moeed Majeed and is part of our bonus series - Covid-19 Fact Checkers. Independent Living Units were built roughly from the 1950s to the 80s as a form of housing for older people - but since government funding for the program ended, nobody's really looked at the conditions or issues for the many thousands of people still living in them. Aoife Cooke recently completed a report - Independent Voices - that investigates the experiences of people living in Independent Living Units. We talk about that research and the pros and cons of ILUs as a form of housing for older people, and some recommendations for improving them. Don't forget you can contact HAAG if you have a problem in an ILU, or want more information about these and other housing options.
