Heather Chauvin is back on the show, and honestly, every conversation with her feels like a masterclass in telling the truth. Heather is a leadership coach who helps successful women live, work, and parent on their own terms, and she practices every single thing she preaches, whether that's kayaking Alaska or snowboarding with her kids. In 2013, a stage 4 cancer diagnosis cracked her life wide open and pushed her to take a deeper stand for change, and she has been helping women do the same ever since. In this conversation, we go deep on identity, decision-making, self-trust, psychedelic therapy, and what it actually means to fight for your own aliveness in a world that is constantly pulling your attention outward. This one is meaty and I can't wait for you to hear it! What you'll hear in this episode:  Resentment is almost always a sign that you've crossed your own boundary, and it points you right back to what matters. Heather likes to say, you're not stuck, you're avoiding a decision–  and her one question cuts right through it. Self-trust is a practice, and you build it with small decisions, not big leaps. Aliveness requires a fight right now, and Heather makes the case that we can't afford to go numb. Psychedelic therapy is a declutter, not a fix, and she breaks down who she sees benefit most. Your human skills (emotional regulation, discernment, critical thinking), are never going out of style. Real self-care is free, and it probably starts with a conversation you've been avoiding. Heather is one of those people who tells the truth so cleanly that you have no choice but to look at your own life differently, and this conversation is no exception. If you've been white-knuckling your way through life wondering why nothing feels like enough, this episode is for you. We're turning midlife muscle strength into personal power! My Guest: Cori Lefkowith is the founder of Redefining Strength and the author of The STRONG System, a practical framework designed to help women build sustainable strength, nutrition, and lifestyle habits that support real life. With over a decade of coaching experience, Cori helps women, especially in midlife, break free from burnout, diet culture, and all-or-nothing health thinking by shifting the focus from intensity and willpower to consistency and systems. Her programs and educational content have been featured in outlets including Women's Health, SELF, Nike, Prevention, MSN, Well+Good, MindBodyGreen, LIVESTRONG, and The Guardian. Questions We Answer in This Episode: Why are women still afraid of getting bulky from lifting weights? Can strength training be about more than just weight loss? Why are we stuck in a survival mindset instead of thriving? How do women handle pressure to be everything to everyone? How do you know what fitness advice is actually right for you? Why is asking ‘why' so important in changing habits? Why is muscle so critical for independence and longevity in midlife? If this episode made you flip your workout routine — share it!

In this conversation, Dr. Anna Marie, with Cortney, unpacks and reframes what vulnerability truly is—shifting it from oversharing, venting, or seeking validation to a deeper state of relaxation, safety, and authenticity in ourselves and with others. They explore how this redefinition transforms leadership, client work, and relationships, emphasizing that real vulnerability begins with being honest and gentle with ourselves. The discussion also offers practical ways to notice tension in the body, create inner safety, and use pause and non-reaction as powerful leadership tools.   Key Points: Vulnerability is deep relaxation and safety in the presence of others. It is not gossip, oversharing, or "airing dirty laundry." Many confuse vulnerability with venting and victimhood to get validation. True vulnerability means sharing without needing validation or agreement. In leadership, vulnerability is a calm, grounded presence in any context. People are drawn to leaders who feel safe, relaxed, and steady. Real vulnerability starts with being honest and gentle with yourself first. Your body's tension or relaxation is a key signal of safety or misalignment. You don't have to respond immediately—there is power in pause and silence. "Don't give it oxygen": choosing not to fuel drama or reactivity is a core vulnerable leadership move. About Cortney McDermott: Cortney McDermott is an award-winning author and speaker and celebrity coach. Her work in self-development and business strategy has been featured in Inc., Women's Health, NBC, The Huffington Post, MindBodyGreen, and SUCCESS, and her talks on human potential have been shared on stages including TEDx, Mindvalley, Oxford Saïd Business School, and Richard Branson's private island, Necker. The Friendship Playbook: Building Connection on Your Own Terms

Why does friendship feel like an intuitive gift for some, but a complex, manual process for others? This week, Emily Kircher-Morris sits down with social-emotional learning expert Caroline Maguire, author of the award-winning Why Will No One Play With Me? and the upcoming Friendship Skills for Neurodivergent Adults. The conversation dismantles the harmful narrative that connection should happen organically, reframing social struggles not as character flaws, but as understandable skill gaps influenced by executive dysfunction and past trauma. They talk about the concept of "Middle School Caroline," the inner child who reacts to perceived slights with high-alert protection, and suggest advice on unmasking, managing rejection sensitivity, and finding "your people" who value compassion over perfect social performance. TAKEAWAYS The "friendship should be easy" narrative fuels unnecessary shame. Connection is a complex skill set, not an innate character trait. Executive dysfunction directly impacts the logistical and emotional labor of maintaining adult relationships. Rejection Sensitivity (RSD) often functions as a protective mechanism whose past social trauma colors present-day perceptions. Unmasking in friendships is a gradual spectrum that requires identifying safe people rather than an all-or-nothing disclosure. Neurodivergent social strengths like info-dumping and deep empathy are valid forms of connection that deserve recognition and framing, rather than suppression. Neurodivergent adults often base social perceptions on the most recent interaction, making objectivity and evidence-based thinking vital for relationship stability. Mental health professionals, join us for our upcoming training, Interpreting Autism Assessment Data in High-Masking and Under-Identified Presentations. Caroline Maguire, M.Ed., PCC is an internationally recognized expert in social-emotional learning, ADHD coaching, and relationship development. She is the author of the award-winning book Why Will No One Play with Me? and the upcoming Friendship Skills for Neurodivergent Adults (Balance Books, April 2026). As the host of The ADHD Social Playbook podcast, Caroline helps neurodivergent individuals build the confidence and connection skills needed to thrive in relationships. A coach, educator, and sought-after speaker, Caroline developed a comprehensive SEL training methodology used by parents, clinicians, and educators to foster self-awareness, emotional regulation, and meaningful social interactions. She is the founder of the family-focused coach training program at the ADD Coach Academy, and brings both professional expertise and personal insight to her work as a neurodivergent person with ADHD, dyslexia, and learning disabilities. Today's episode is an expert visit with leadership coach, author, and podcast host Heather Chauvin about navigating life's unexpected detours, especially the ones that knock the wind out of you and make you question everything. Heather shares how her stage 4 cancer diagnosis reshaped the way she thinks about “resilience,” why so many capable, responsible women end up running on fumes, and what it looks like to stop powering through and start rebuilding your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual resources from the inside out. We talk about the shame that can come with feeling tired, how to notice the moment right before you react (so you can respond differently over time), and simple, grounding questions like “How do I want to feel?” that can become a roadmap when life gets messy. Note: This is a special release of an expert conversation held inside the Differently Wired Club. Enjoy!   About Heather Heather Chauvin is a leadership coach who helps ‘successful' women courageously and authentically live, work, and parent on their own terms. Heather started her career as a social worker helping adults understand children's behavior. But it wasn't until 2013 when a stage 4 cancer diagnosis pushed her to take a deeper stand for change, uncovering how cultural expectations sabotage our dreams. She has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, Real Simple Magazine, Mind Body Green, Google, and more. When Heather isn't working, you will find her living out what she teaches which may include kayaking Alaska, snowboarding, hiking, or anything else that challenges what she believes is possible for herself (and inviting her children along the journey). Life is full of opportunities. It's time to feel alive.   Key Takeaways Why resilience isn't about powering through—and how numbing and over-functioning can quietly turn into fatigue and shame How starting with the question “How do I want to feel?” helps parents make more aligned, sustainable choices Why fatigue carries important information and how getting curious instead of judgmental can shift everything How noticing your yellow zone before reacting builds awareness and more connected responses over time Why detours and uncertainty often become powerful identity work, revealing where growth and change are being invited How practicing small, intentional “tiny pushes” can help parents move toward the version of themselves they're becoming Learn more about your ad choices.
