How Flashfood Uses Data And AI To Solve The Grocery Food Waste Crisis

    The Tech Blog Writer Podcast

How can a world that produces more than enough food still leave millions of people struggling to put a healthy meal on the table? In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I speak with Jordan Schenck, CEO of Flashfood, about the growing paradox at the heart of our global food system. Grocery prices are climbing, families everywhere are making harder choices at the checkout, and food banks are seeing rising demand. Yet at the same time, vast quantities of perfectly edible food never make it onto a plate. Jordan shares the startling scale of the problem. In North America alone, billions of pounds of edible food are thrown away every year, including huge volumes from grocery stores themselves. Fresh produce, meat, and dairy often end up discarded even though they remain safe and nutritious to eat. The result is a system where food waste and food insecurity grow side by side, despite a supply chain that already produces far more calories than the world needs. Flashfood is attempting to change that equation with a simple but powerful idea. Through its marketplace app, the company partners with grocery retailers to sell surplus food at steep discounts before it reaches the landfill. Shoppers gain access to fresh groceries at far lower prices, while retailers recover value from inventory that might otherwise be lost. What emerges is a rare triple win for shoppers, grocers, and the environment. During our conversation, Jordan explains how consumer behavior, retail expectations, and supply chain logistics have shaped today's food waste problem. She also shares how technology and data are beginning to shift the system in a different direction. Flashfood is now working with more than two thousand grocery partners across North America and serving over a million users, using data and AI to help retailers price surplus inventory more effectively and move products before they are discarded. But the story behind Flashfood is also personal. Jordan reflects on her earlier experiences at Impossible Foods and as founder of the beverage brand Sunwink, and how those roles helped her see both the strengths and weaknesses inside modern food production. Over time, she began to question whether the industry truly needed more products on shelves, or whether the bigger opportunity lay in fixing the inefficiencies that already existed. Our discussion touches on the psychology of grocery shopping, the economics of surplus inventory, and the cultural expectations that lead retailers to overstock shelves in the first place. We also explore why many consumers are more open to buying discounted food than retailers once believed, particularly as the cost of living continues to rise. Perhaps most encouraging of all is the idea that solving food waste does not require entirely new supply chains or radical lifestyle changes. Sometimes it simply requires connecting the dots between food that already exists and the people who need it most.

As Analytic Dreamz, I dissect this groundbreaking moment: the first live rendition of the track from her November 2025 album Lux, and the first onstage collaboration between Rosalía and Björk.Rosalía, in all-white attire, opened with an operatic German intro backed by the Heritage Orchestra's strings and a half-circle choir in blazers, evoking a cathedral atmosphere. Björk made a surprise entrance through the parted choir, delivering her hypnotic verse in avant-garde styling with a hovering beaded headpiece. The performance transformed into a full rave explosion: heavy synths, strobe lights, electronic beats, head-banging choreography, and an intense dance breakdown—blending symphonic drama, theatrical avant-garde, and underground club energy. This genre-bending spectacle followed Rosalía's win for Best International Artist, defeating Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, Tyler, The Creator, Chappell Roan, and others—marking her as the first Spanish artist to claim a BRIT Award and a milestone for non-English-language music. Her acceptance speech emphasized celebrating otherness, cultural exchange, artistic freedom, and representation, quoting: “Let's keep celebrating different music, different cultures and different languages.”Lux, an ambitious 15-track opus spanning 13 languages with flamenco roots, experimental pop, orchestral elements (including London Symphony Orchestra), and electronic layers, set the stage for her upcoming Lux World Tour starting March 16, 2026, in Lyon, France—42 arena shows across 17 countries in Europe, North America, and South America.“Berghain,” despite the Berlin nightclub reference, explores inner psychological forests, darkness vs. light duality, moral ambiguity, and the artist's journey beside shadows for deeper understanding. The performance ignited viral buzz, critical acclaim as one of the most innovative BRIT moments, and tour hype—positioning Rosalía as a global cultural architect reshaping pop spectacle through fearless, high-art-to-rave fusions.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/exclusive-contentPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The 2027 lineup also adds a first-ever iX4 coupe-SUV in two variants, an iX3 in three configurations launching in North America this summer, an electric iX5, and an i3 M60 alongside a full electric M3 positioned as the spiritual successor to today's M3 Competition.TESLA BERLIN RUNS HALF FULL AS UNION ROW SIMMERSTesla's Gigafactory Berlin produced 211,235 vehicles in 2024 against a stated annual capacity of 375,000 — a 56% utilisation rate — and output has since declined further, with the factory now reportedly running at around 40% capacity and BYD outselling Tesla in Europe in January 2026. Labour tensions are deepening ahead of works council elections, with IG Metall pursuing collective wage agreements similar to those at Volkswagen and BMW, while Tesla filed a criminal complaint against a union member and Elon Musk warned that "outside organisations" could hinder the site's ambition to become Europe's largest factory complex.T&E: LOCAL BATTERIES COULD CUT COST GAPA Transport & Environment report argues the EU can shrink the cost gap between domestically made and Chinese batteries from 90% to around 30% through scaled-up local production, with higher automation and lower scrap rates potentially cutting the gap to $14 per kWh by 2030 — equivalent to roughly €500 on an average EV. The findings align with the EU's forthcoming Industrial Accelerator Act, which targets ~70% local content thresholds for publicly supported EVs, though some carmakers warn this risks making batteries prohibitively expensive while T&E's Julia Poliscanova calls it "a sovereignty premium worth paying," particularly given China's export restrictions on critical minerals.TRIBUNAL BACKS 5% VAT ON SOME PUBLIC CHARGINGA UK tax tribunal has ruled against HMRC in a case brought by community charging operator Charge My Street, finding that a de-minimis clause in the VAT Act 1994 — capping "domestic" supplies at 1,000 kWh per month per customer — can qualify most neighbourhood charge points for the 5% reduced VAT rate rather than the 20% rate currently applied to public charging. The ruling is significant for drivers without off-street parking, though it also raises commercial complications, as many charge point operators have multi-year contracts priced on 20% VAT, and it opens the door to networks gaming the threshold by splitting sites or charger banks into separate "premises".ŠKODA OPENS €205M CTP BATTERY PLANT IN CZECHIAŠkoda has opened a €205 million (~$216M), 55,000 m² battery production facility at Mladá Boleslav, making it the Volkswagen Group's largest BEV battery system site and the first VW Group plant in Europe to manufacture cell-to-pack (CTP) systems at scale. The line produces over 1,100 battery systems per day — targeting up to 335,000 annually — and Škoda's switch to LFP cells has cut battery production costs by 30% compared to its previous MEB systems.MG CLOSES IN ON EUROPEAN FACTORY PLANMG has narrowed its European factory search to five countries, aiming to begin production by 2027 to circumvent the EU's 45% tariff on Chinese-built BEVs — a levy that caused MG's European BEV sales to fall 33% to 48,479 units last year, even as overall European sales rose 26% to 307,282 units in 2025. MG Europe head William Wang declared "it's time to build local," positioning the brand as a European marque rather than a Chinese import, as rivals BYD, Chery, and Leapmotor also race to establish European manufacturing footholds.CITROËN UPDATES C5 AIRCROSS PHEV FOR EURO 7Citroën has refreshed the C5 Aircross plug-in hybrid with a new 21.5 kWh battery (17.8 kWh usable), delivering up to 96 km (60 miles) of WLTP combined electric range — a 33% improvement over the outgoing model and ahead of rivals like the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 (69 km) and Ford Kuga PHEV (64 km). Priced in the €40–50k range, Citroën positions the updated C5 Aircross as one of the most tax-efficient family SUVs in the mainstream segment across EU markets while still targeting Euro 7 compliance.CANADIAN TRIAL PEGS ELECTRIC SEMI SAVINGS AT $157,126A real-world Canadian trial by FPInnovations' PIT Group and Transport Canada tracked two commercial fleets over 12 months and more than 200,000 km of Montreal-area operations, projecting savings of $157,126 per truck over six years — described as the most comprehensive dataset of its kind outside controlled demonstrations. The study compared the Freightliner eCascadia (BEV) directly against the diesel Cascadia and found that despite the electric truck's higher purchase price, higher-than-expected maintenance costs, and lower residual value, a six-year saving still emerged and may prove conservative.DENZA D9 ELECTRIC MPV ARRIVES IN AUSTRALIADenza has launched the D9 electric MPV in Australia from A$85,990, powered by a 103.3 kWh Blade Battery with 200 kW DC fast charging, 11 kW AC charging, and V2L capability across both variants, all built on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 with a cell-to-body battery structure. The seven-seat, three-row cabin targets the premium end of the people-mover segment with nappa leather, open-pore white ash wood trim, a 14-speaker Dynaudio sound system, adaptive suspension, and second-row captain's chairs offering over 900 mm of legroom, massage, and individual screens.CHINESE CAR BRANDS SPLIT US BUYERSA Cox Automotive survey of 802 prospective US car buyers found the country almost evenly divided — 38% would consider Chinese brands if available, 39% would not — with Gen Z showing notably higher openness at 69%. Chinese brands remain locked out of the US market by high tariffs and software regulations, but cost pressure is a key driver of interest, with 68% of open buyers expecting lower prices against an average new car price of $50,000, while BYD has already surpassed Tesla in European EV sales.

In the United States today, there is no faith more dominant than Christianity. In Chosen Land, historian Matthew Avery Sutton chronicles Christians' five-hundred-year endeavor to turn North America into their version of the kingdom of God, revealing the fruitful and dynamic entanglement between the history of America and the history of American Christianity. In the centuries after Christianity first arrived on American shores, colonizers and colonized from New England to Spanish California practiced many varieties of the faith. After the founding of the United States, the nation's lack of a state religion forced new and evolving strains of Christianity to battle for potential adherents, as they still do to this day. As American Christianity has bent, fractured, and adapted to changing times, Christian belief has shaped everything from the promise of Manifest Destiny to Ronald Reagan's approach to the Cold War, the rise of the Southern Lost Cause narrative to the triumphs of the civil rights movement.Buy the book HERE.Western Civ 2.0 Free Trial

Hosted by Analytic Dreamz, this analysis covers the 9-track, 31-minute album—his first solo project in nearly a decade since 24K Magic (2016)—blending retro-soul, disco-pop, funk, 1970s influences (Curtis Mayfield, Philly soul), and Latin elements like bolero, cha-cha, and mariachi for a crooner-forward, romantic vibe timed near Valentine's.Lead single “I Just Might” (January 9, 2026) debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with retro-funk/disco energy and a Leo Sayer interpolation. Follow-up “Risk It All” dropped with the album, featuring mariachi-styled visuals and wedding-themed romance. Early streaming shows strong momentum on Spotify and Apple Music, boosted by billions from recent hits “Die With a Smile” (with Lady Gaga, 2025 Grammy winner) and “APT.” (with Rosé, Grammy-nominated).Critical reception is mixed: praise for vocal polish, production, and crowd-pleasing retro-soul (Rolling Stone: positive crowd-pleaser; NME: 4/5 mature persona), but some critique homage-heavy predictability and sentimentality (Paste: D+ overly sentimental). Physical editions include translucent red and gold vinyl for collectors.Analytic Dreamz highlights strategic insights: short runtime for high completion/replay rates, playlist-friendly nostalgia, Latin market expansion, wedding/event utility for long-tail streams, catalog halo from legacy smashes (“Just the Way You Are,” “Versace on the Floor”), and steady streaming over viral spikes. The Romantic Tour kicks off early April 2026 in Las Vegas (Allegiant Stadium), spanning North America through late May, Europe (Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Madrid, Milan, London) late June–mid July, and back to U.S./Vancouver by mid-October. Features Anderson .Paak as DJ Pee .Wee, plus select supports like Leon Thomas, Raye, Victoria Monet. This polished, formula-consistent revival reinforces Bruno's retro-romantic brand, leveraging hiatus demand and prior collaborations for sustained commercial longevity.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/exclusive-contentPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

COLOSS (Prevention of Colony Losses) is an international nonprofit network of more than 2,000 honey bee researchers across 113 countries. For the first time, a multi–task force North American meeting will be held June 6–12 at Washington State University in Pullman. The event will bring together researchers, beekeepers, veterinarians, inspectors, and growers to discuss nutrition, pathogens, pesticides, climate change, and landscape impacts on honey bee health. Workshops, tours, and hands-on sessions will provide practical learning opportunities for attendees at all levels. Priya also shares updates from her lab's nutrition research, including pollen landscape mapping across North America, micronutrient analysis, supplemental forage strategies, and how nutrition interacts with stressors like pesticides and disease. The discussion covers practical considerations for trapping and storing pollen, differences between pollen substitutes and supplements, winter feeding strategies, and how nutrition influences brood production and colony resilience. AI transformation is accelerating, and for many organizations, the biggest risk isn't the technology itself; it's getting their strategic response wrong. Rush in without a framework, and you can destroy culture, trust, and capability. Hold back waiting for certainty, and more agile competitors will overtake you. Talent leaders are caught between these two failure modes with no clear playbook, and the pressure is intensifying by the week. So what does a disciplined, structured approach to navigating AI disruption actually look like in practice, and what role should talent and HR be playing? My guest this week is Jagrity Singh, a transformation leader who specializes in integrating AI-driven talent strategies with process excellence disciplines. In our conversation, she introduces a model for understanding where work sits between fully human and fully automated, and explains why the organizations that win will be those that learn to surf the wave rather than get crushed by it. In the interview, we discuss: Differences in AI approaches between Europe, the Middle East, and North America. The impact of AI on jobs and what approach employers should be taking AI is an HR problem, not an IT problem. Why CHROs need to orchestrate human and AI workforces Strategic workforce planning What should be automated and what shouldn't Advice to talent leaders What does the future look like? In Episode 320 of The Business Development Podcast, Kelly Kennedy sits down with Ron Szekely, Co Founder of BOS360 and a veteran marketing executive who helped scale powerhouse brands like L'Oreal and Keurig Dr Pepper. Ron shares what he learned working inside billion dollar organizations and how those lessons translate to founder led companies navigating growth today. He explains why businesses often become more fragile as they scale, how founders unknowingly become the bottleneck, and why clarity, alignment, and accountability become critical at the next level.Ron also breaks down the core pillars he believes every company must intentionally build business, brand, and team and how strategy, execution, and culture connect them. He offers practical insights into overcoming founder overwhelm, simplifying complexity, and building systems that allow companies to grow sustainably without losing what made them successful in the first place. This episode is a powerful look at what it really takes to scale a business with purpose, control, and long term success.Key Takeaways: Businesses rarely fail when they are small, they break when growth exposes the lack of systems, clarity, and alignment needed to scale. The same entrepreneur with the same product can experience completely different outcomes depending on whether they follow the right systems and best practices.Every company must intentionally build three things at the same time a strong business, a clear brand, and a high performing team.Scaling requires founders to stop holding all the accountability themselves and trust their team to own results, not just tasks.Growth becomes easier when leadership aligns on a clear vision for where the company is going over the next 10 years, 3 years, 1 year, and quarter.Your brand is not your logo, it is the reputation, expectations, and experience you consistently create in the market. Many companies struggle because they try to pursue too many opportunities instead of focusing on the few that truly move the needle. You can grow a business faster by increasing how often existing customers use your product, not just by finding new customers.Overwhelm comes from noise and lack of clarity, and taking time to think, write, and prioritize helps founders regain control. The companies that scale successfully simplify their operations, clarify accountability, and build systems that allow the business to run beyond the founder.Check out our guest Ron SzekelyLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rszekely/BOS360 Growth Systems: https://bos360.caRon is the Co Founder of BOS360, a business operating system designed to help founder led companies build stronger businesses, brands, and teams.A huge thank you to our sponsors for making The Business Development Podcast possible.

Today is day 60 and we are in the section on the Second Article of the Apostles' Creed on Jesus Christ the Son of God. Today we are on the seventh line: “He suffered under Pontius Pilate” and studying question 60. 60. In what ways did Jesus suffer? On earth, the incarnate Son shared physically, emotionally, and spiritually in the temptations and sufferings common to all people, yet without sin. In his agony and desolation on the Cross, he uniquely suffered in my place for my sins and, in so doing, revealed God's love and compassion for fallen and suffering humanity. (Psalm 22:1–24; Matthew 4:1–10; 27:26–50; Hebrews 4:14–16) We will conclude today with The Collect for Tuesday of Holy Week found on page 607 of the Book of Common Prayer (2019). In this chilling installment, the guys explore multiple eyewitness encounters involving a bizarre, translucent, human-shaped entity often called the “Glimmer Man.” From darkened bedrooms to remote wilderness trails, from quiet apartment balconies to isolated hunting grounds, the descriptions are strikingly consistent. Witnesses report a tall humanoid figure that appears to bend light around itself — shimmering like heat waves rising off hot pavement — moving with impossible speed, agility, and near-total silence.Spanning decades and reported across North America and even parts of Europe, the pattern is hard to ignore. Those who've seen it describe a being that is: Completely transparent, yet visibly distorted Cloaked like a ripple in reality Able to climb and leap between trees without making a sound Associated with missing time, sudden disorientation, or an eerie silence in the environment Occasionally seen with glowing yellow or red eyes Seemingly intelligent… aware… and watching Is it a spirit? An interdimensional entity? Advanced extraterrestrial technology? He was born in Syria in 1860, in the waning years of the Ottoman Empire. In his childhood, his family took refuge in Lebanon after their parish priest, St Joseph of Damascus (July 10) was martyred; but they later returned to Damascus. In 1879 he was tonsured a monk and entered into the service of Patriarch Hierotheos of Antioch. The Balamand Seminary had been closed since 1840, but the young monk was offered a scholarship at the Constantinople Patriarchate's seminary at Halki. Returning to Syria with a theological degree, St Raphael became assistant to Gerasimos, the new Patriarch of Antioch, traveling and preaching on his behalf. After further studies in Kiev, he transferred to the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Moscow and for a time was professer of Arabic studies at the Theological Academy in Kazan. (At that time the downtrodden Orthodox of the Middle East received considerable aid and theological training from the Tsar and from the Church in Russia).   In 1895 he was sent to the United States to shepherd the Arab Orthodox Community in New York, which was without a church or a priest. He quickly consecrated a chapel and with great energy set about the work of shepherding his flock there; but he was concerned not only for them but for the Arab Christian immigrants scattered through North America, most of whom were without a pastor and in danger of falling into heterodoxy or abandoning religious life. He traveled widely throughout the continent, visiting, counseling and serving Arab Christians, preaching, celebrating marriages and baptisms, receiving confessions and celebrating the Divine Liturgy, usually in private houses. In 1898 he published the first Orthodox prayer book in Arabic to appear in the New World. In 1899, he made a seven-month journey through forty-three American cities, seeking out the "scattered sheep" of the Church in America. His services were attended not only by Arabs but by Russians and Greeks, all of whom at that time depended on the Russian mission to North America. During this entire period, he held the official rank of Archimandrite, though his work and duties exceeded those of most bishops.   In 1901, Patriarch Meletios was elected to the see of Antioch, the first Arab to occupy the patriarchal throne for 168 years. Several proposals were made to elect Archimandrite Raphael to a see in Syria; but he refused all such offers, pointing out the Orthodox people's great and little-met needs in North America. In 1904, the Moscow Patriarchate made him Bishop of Brooklyn, the first Orthodox bishop to be consecrated on American soil. He redoubled his already impressive pastoral work, ordaining priests to the many new parishes that he had founded, and assisting Saint Tikhon (then Bishop of North America) in the care of his huge diocese. In 1905 he laid the foundation of the Monastery of St Tikhon in Pennsylvania.   The bishop saw the importance of integrating the faithful into the life of their new homeland, and was an early advocate of the use of English in American Church services. When Isabel Hapgood's Service Book — the first useful English translation of the Church's services — was published in 1906, he advocated its use in all his parishes.   In 1912, St Raphael was found to be suffering from heart disease, but continued his exhausting pastoral work for two more years. In 1915 he was finally unable to continue, and reposed after two months' illness.   When his relics were transported in 1998 from Brooklyn to Antiochian Village in Ligonier, PA, they were found to be incorrupt, and in 2000 he became the most recently glorified Saint of North America.   In North America St Raphael is commemorated on the anniversary of his repose: February 27 on the Civil/New Calendar, February 14 on the Julian Calendar. He is also commemorated with the Synaxis of Saints of North America on the Second Sunday after Pentecost. The Patriarchate of Antioch also commemorates him, but on Saturday before the Synaxis of the Archangels (November 8).

Epicenter - Learn about Blockchain, Ethereum, Bitcoin and Distributed Technologies

In this episode, host Friederike Ernst is joined by John Paller, founder of ETH Denver, to reflect on nine seasons of North America's largest Ethereum gathering and where the ecosystem goes next. John shares his "red pill" moment in 2016 and the subsequent realization that Ethereum was not just a corporate efficiency tool, but a way to rewire the global economic system. He discusses the evolution of the Biddle meme and how ETH Denver has become a market-driven aggregator for crypto's shifting narratives, from DeFi summer to the current era of institutional adoption. They delve into a candid critique of the Ethereum Foundation's "Infinite Garden" philosophy, with John arguing for more "structural vision" and actionable roadmaps to compete with the aggressive narratives of chains like Solana. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oversees more than 12 million acres in Arizona alone. And much like the rest of the West, it has public lands making up national monuments that hold value for tribes. As KJZZ's Gabriel Pietrorazio reports, President Donald Trump's pick to run BLM pledged to respect them in his confirmation hearing this week. During his first term, President Trump shrank the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante in Utah – only for President Joe Biden to restore them and name 10 new ones. Former U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce (R-NM) answered “yes” when asked about whether he was committed to honoring those sites by U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA), who thanked the nominee for his “great” and “short, clear, concise, and on-the-record” answer. Pearce added that “the Native Americans sometimes are overlooked from Washington and …” when Sen. Padilla interrupted with, “And not just sometimes, far too often”. Pearce then noted “We became a voice for them, and would continue to do that.” Pearce doubled down when U.S. Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) asked about Arizona's Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni, which President Biden created near the South Rim in 2023. “The Grand Canyon, it's one of the most magnificent things, frankly, in the world. So we'll do whatever we can to work with you any way that's necessary.” X̱'unei Lance Twitchell teaching pre-kindergarten students. (Courtesy Ryan Conarro) Language educators in Juneau are working to create a Master's in Teaching program for teaching Indigenous languages at the University of Alaska Southeast. It would be the first of its kind in Alaska. KTOO’s Yvonne Krumrey reports. Lingít language professor X̱'unei Lance Twitchell talked about the possible future degree program during KTOO's Juneau Afternoon. “My colleague Éedaa Heather Burge and I are collaborating to create a certificate in teaching Indigenous languages, and as we look at how our language is taught in Alaska, who teaches them, what are their qualifications? What are they permitted to do in the current school systems? And what they’re permitted to do is just not enough.” The program would be for those who want to go into teaching Alaska Native languages to all ages. There are more than 20 distinct Indigenous languages throughout the state. Twitchell said the program still has some steps ahead of it before prospective students can enroll. “This degree has to go before the Board of Regents, and so we’re very hopeful that they will see the value in it. They’ll see the need. They’ll see the demand. I think it’s maybe one of two programs that are like it, perhaps in all of North America.” Twitchell said, while Southeast Alaska Native languages have endured and continue to grow, they should still be prioritized – and with urgency – by schools and communities. “But to be able to get to that is going to take some monumental shifts in the way that we do things, which is really hard today, because one of the things that a colonial government likes to do is pretend that there’s no time, there’s no money, everything’s already spoken for.” Twitchell said this program would create more pathways for educators who can advocate for time, money, and effort to go into revitalizing Indigenous languages. He said the program would focus on the “hows” of teaching Indigenous languages: how to create schools, build programs, and what materials to use. University officials are currently reviewing the proposal. After that, it'll be up to the University of Alaska Board of Regents to decide whether to approve the program. Meda DeWitt (Tlingit) is running for governor as an independent. (Courtesy DeWitt campaign) A 17th candidate has entered the Alaska governor’s race. Alaska Public Media’s Liz Ruskin has more. Meda DeWitt is a traditional healer, drawing on her Tlingit heritage. She teaches at the University of Alaska. She is running as an independent candidate, unaffiliated with any party. “I care about our future. I care about the way that we steward our lands and want to see a state that has a thriving ecosystem and healthy communities that can live in perpetuity.” In 2021, DeWitt chaired a campaign to recall Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R-AK). The petition gathered more than 60,000 signatures but fell short of the number needed for a recall election. Her campaign website lists a wide array of priorities, from cost of living to health care to the state economy. DeWitt lives in Anchorage and has family roots in Wrangell and Yakutat, as well as relatives around the state. The August 18 primary will feature a long list of gubernatorial candidates, most running with the Republican label. In the primary, voters can choose just one. The top four candidates, of any party, will advance to the November ballot. General election voters will have the option of ranking up to four candidates. In fly fishing, "predators" is a bit of an arbitrary designation. Why? Well, bluegill are predators. Brook trout are predators. Tiger sharks are predators. What we often mean is  the larger, piscivorous (fish eating)  freshwater species in North America. Today I'm talking about some of the considerations one might make when thinking about gear for larger bass and toothy fish. As you can imagine, this includes a wide range of species and waters. Still, there are some general principles that all come into play when acquiring equipment for targeting predatory fish. Also, I throw carp a bone. I mean, they do get big. At its core, it's about owning resilient, cash-generative businesses with little to no debt—companies that can not only survive volatility but use it to their advantage. We dive into why they focus on operating cash flow over EBITDA, how they hunt for overlooked “boring” niche leaders trading at value prices, what they look for in management teams, and why constant re-underwriting—“buy and homework,” not just buy and hold—is critical to long-term compounding in microcaps. Chad Delligatti — CEO of InnoSourceChad Delligatti is the CEO of InnoSource — a more than two-decade-old, Ohio-based company that has grown into a national workforce solutions platform serving Fortune 500 and midsized organizations across the country.Since joining InnoSource in 2000 as one of its earliest employees, Chad has devoted his entire professional career to building the company — helping it evolve from a regional staffing firm into the leading HR, talent, outsourcing, and data solutions partner it is today, employing more than 2,000 associates across North America, partnering with clients to deliver highly customized recruiting and workforce management solutions. But this isn't just a story about staffing…From sweeping neighbors' floors in Bexley as a child, to running a lawn care business in Granville, to flipping Beanie Babies in college, Chad's entrepreneurial drive showed up early. And when faced with the choice between joining a large corporation or becoming one of the first employees at a small, fledgling company called InnoSource, he chose the entrepreneurial path — a decision that shaped the next 25 years of his life.In our conversation, Chad reflects on what it means to dedicate decades to building one company — the evolution of the staffing and outsourcing industry from newspaper classifieds to job boards to AI-driven recruiting — and how InnoSource is now entering a new chapter powered by technology. We unpack how the implementation of AI is reshaping hiring funnels, reducing time-to-offer, improving tenure, and fundamentally transforming how workforce solutions are delivered. We also explore what hasn't changed: the company's cultural anchors, leadership principles, and Chad's conviction that technology must enhance — not replace — the human touch. This conversation was a lot of fun — chad exudes passion for his work and it comes through in spades. The revelatory and urgent story of how an explosion of misogyny is driving a surge of mass and far-right violence throughout the West--from an internationally recognized extremism expert and media commentator What two things do most mass shooters, terrorists, or violent extremists have in common? Most of us know the first: they are almost always men or boys. But the second? They are almost always virulent misogynists, homophobes, or transphobes--even if they are also motivated by racism, antisemitism, or xenophobia. The antigovernment militiamen charged with plotting to kidnap and execute Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer used language saturated with misogyny, with one telling an FBI informant, "Just grab the bitch." The men who killed scores at Virginia Tech, the Pulse nightclub, and a Maryland newsroom all had prior reports of stalking, domestic violence, or harassment of women. And in dozens of other incidents--from North America to Norway to New Zealand--an increasing number of misogynist incel (involuntary celibate) and male supremacist attackers have explicitly targeted and killed women, blaming feminism or sexual frustration with women as motivation for their attacks. Yet, despite all evidence, the bright red thread of misogyny running through these attacks is barely acknowledged by the media or even experts--and this failing leaves us powerless to stop the violence. In Man Up: The New Misogyny and the Rise of Violent Extremism (Princeton UP, 2025), Cynthia Miller-Idriss, a leading expert on extremism, addresses this crucial oversight head-on, revealing how an epidemic of misogyny--both online and off--and a patriarchal backlash are driving an exponential rise in mass and far-right violence. In this episode of The High Performance Mindset, Dr. Cindra Kamphoff sits down with Ted Ma—leadership strategist, researcher, author, and keynote speaker—to explore what truly separates average leaders from exceptional ones. Earlier in his career, Ted built and led a sales organization of more than 6,000 people across North America. But through that experience, he began asking a deeper question: What actually makes leadership sustainable, impactful, and human? That curiosity led him to study mentorship, trust, confidence, and culture—and to develop the concept of Everyday Mentorship. Throughout the conversation, Ted explains why leadership isn't about titles or authority—it's about the small, daily behaviors that build trust, confidence, and performance over time. He breaks down the "DNA" of high-performing teams, why culture is a true competitive advantage, and the common misconceptions leaders have when trying to shift culture. Ted also shares research-backed insights on what drives engagement and retention, the mental barriers that limit leadership confidence, and practical ways leaders can begin building stronger cultures immediately. This episode is a powerful reminder that high performance doesn't happen by accident—it's built intentionally, one conversation and one courageous leadership decision at a time.     You'll Learn: What Everyday Mentorship really means—and why it matters now more than ever The DNA of high-performing sales teams Why culture is a competitive advantage (not just a buzzword) The biggest misconception leaders have about changing culture Research insights on trust, confidence, and engagement The mental barriers that limit leadership growth One practical framework leaders can implement immediately     Episode Resources & Links Learn more about Ted Ma: https://realtedma.com/ Download our 2025 National Confidence Study: https://confidencestudy.com/ Request a Free Mental Breakthrough Call with Dr. Cindra or her team: https://freementalbreakthroughcall.com/ Learn more about the Mentally Strong Institute: https://mentallystronginstitute.com/
