In this episode:In the medical mailbag Juliet and I answer a question about training with hypothyroidismm. How much of an impact does thyroid dysfunction have on an endurance athlete and what does this gland do anyways? We give you all the details. Then, in a world where triathletes are often left wondering if their competition is playing fair, Race Ranger swoops in like a superhero with a tech-savvy cape. James Elvery returns to the Tridoc Podcast to shed light on how this nifty gadget not only tracks drafting but also enhances safety for every participant. No more chaotic bike packs where someone's drafting off you like they're in a Tour de France highlights reel! The system uses a combination of lights and technology to enforce rules, and it's finally making its debut among age-groupers. We get into all the juicy details about how it works, including the fascinating (and slightly terrifying) tech behind the scenes that tracks your distance from the rider in front of you. The conversation flows from the challenges of scaling up for larger races to the proactive measures taken to ensure that athletes are not only competing but are safe while doing so.

A triathlon has specific regulations that must be followed, requiring designated individuals to oversee their implementation. These rules are in place to ensure both safety and fairness for you. The presence of officials is intended to create a positive experience for all participants. On this podcast, our guests, two USA Triathlon officials, will discuss the various roles and responsibilities of the officiating team. Then, host Andrew Harley asks them to share their stories and experiences from race day. What are the most common infractions athletes commit? What are some of the most strange occurrences the officials have witnessed? How does new technology, such as Race Ranger, influence the enforcement of the rules? Listen in for all this, and more. In this episode:Much has been said about how female reproductive hormones can play a role in women's ability to train and race and most of what has been said has come from one woman. The reality though is the evidence paints a very different picture than what too many women have been sold as what to expect. I look at the latest in a growing body of evidence to question the dogma that women should expect to perform differently based on when in their cycle they train. James Elvery is an ex-pro Triathlete and he wants to help stop cheating. Until now, drafting was policed by visual observation, and penalties were non-protestable. If someone thought it looked like you were cheating, your race is done. But if they didn't see you drafting, you're sweet. Doesn't sounds right to us. James' Race Ranger is the first tool to ensure that you draft at the right distance. In this episode: Osteostrong is a program aimed at women that promises to build bone strength and prevent mineral loss in a way that is far more efficient than anything else out there and with results that seem far too good to be true. While not specifically targeted at athletes, the marketers of Osteostrong employ all of the same tired methods to induce customers to spend their money on something that is very much unproven. I explore these methods in order to once again demonstrate how marketers of devices can stretch credulity in order to separate you from your hard earned cash. While Osteostrong may not be triathlon specific, the lessons are definitely applicable. James Elvery is a former professional triathlete and the founder of Race Ranger a new technology that has the potential to revolutionize the bike leg of triathlon. He joins me to discuss this exciting new device. Segments: [07:00]- Osteostrong [18:21]- James Elvery Links https://www.raceranger.com/ (Race Ranger)
