[00:30] The Sabbath (55 minutes) Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, more and more people are discussing the subject of the Sabbath. What is the Sabbath and does God command that Christians observe it?
Sermon Series: Decalogue Preacher: Josh White 10.5.25
In this special tribute episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosted by Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton, we pause to remember Charlie Kirk, his impact, his convictions, and the life he lived in pursuit of truth, faith, and service. As news of his death touches the nation, we also look forward to the book he left behind: Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life (Amazon Affiliate), due December 9th. We reflect on the legacy he left, what defined him, and what we can still learn from his life. Whether you agreed with all his views or not, Charlie's story holds lessons about courage, conviction, rest, and what it means to stand for something beyond yourself. 10 Things People Should Know & Remember About Him: Charlie was the co-founder of Turning Point USA, a youth activism organization, started when he was just 18. He was a passionate advocate for free speech, civic engagement, and conservative values, often speaking directly to young people on college campuses. He had a strong spiritual life; in later years he practiced honoring the Sabbath and explored how rest and faith intersect. He was set to publish Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life on December 9, 2025— a book that offers spiritual wisdom about rest, presence, and resisting the busyness of modern life. After his tragic death, his podcast and books saw a surge in interest—people wanting to re-hear his voice, re-read his work, and reflect on what he stood for. He believed rest and spiritual sabbath were not just spiritual luxury but radical acts of resistance against anxiety, distraction, and cultural exhaustion. Charlie often emphasized the importance of family, faith, and a moral code in shaping character and purpose. He challenged listeners to think deeply about their identity beyond political alignment—about what you believe, and how belief shapes how you live. Despite controversy, his ability to mobilize and influence young people—encouraging them to get involved, speak up, and defend their values—was significant. His legacy continues through the movement he built, the people he inspired, and now through his writings, including the upcoming Sabbath book that invites readers to reclaim rest. What Stop, in the Name of God Offers & Why You Should Pre-Order: It teaches how honoring the Sabbath isn't rejection of productivity, but a pathway to peace, rest, and deeper connection. Offers practical spiritual wisdom—tools to unplug, recharge, and reconnect with faith, family, and self. In a culture obsessed with hustle and noise, it's an invitation to reclaim what truly matters and to resist perpetual busyness. Why This Episode Matters: Charlie Kirk's life was full of passion, friction, faith—and now, in his passing, reflection. His upcoming Sabbath book adds another layer to his message: that rest and identity are intertwined, and that you can't sustain impact without renewing your soul. For first responders, this is especially resonant: we're often called to serve, protect, and hustle—but what happens when we don't learn to rest? This episode is for remembering, for honoring, and for asking: How might honoring rest change your life?

So far in Matthew's narrative, Jesus has demonstrated that he is Lord over disease, death, demons, and even Lord over Creation and the created order. He also demonstrated that he is Lord over men, offering forgiveness of sins to the repentant. Today Jesus demonstrates that he is Lord of the Sabbath, refusing to compromise his heavenly standard in order to submit to the scribes. Moreover, he freely calls men to serve to him, sits with those who would have been considered unclean without becoming unclean himself, and continues to heal those who are ailing. No like this has ever been seen in Israel before Jesus, setting him apart as more than just a prophet and more than just a priest. :::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by the Christian Standard Biblefacebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org

Acts 18:1-23 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. 2 And he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. And he went to see them, 3 and because he was of the same trade he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade. 4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and tried to persuade Jews and Greeks. 5 When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word, testifying to the Jews that the Christ was Jesus. 6 And when they opposed and reviled him, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” 7 And he left there and went to the house of a man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God. His house was next door to the synagogue. 8 Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, together with his entire household. And many of the Corinthians hearing Paul believed and were baptized. 9 And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, 10 for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.” 11 And he stayed a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. 12 But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him before the tribunal, 13 saying, “This man is persuading people to worship God contrary to the law.” 14 But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of wrongdoing or vicious crime, O Jews, I would have reason to accept your complaint. 15 But since it is a matter of questions about words and names and your own law, see to it yourselves. I refuse to be a judge of these things.” 16 And he drove them from the tribunal.17 And they all seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the tribunal. But Gallio paid no attention to any of this. 18 After this, Paul stayed many days longer and then took leave of the brothers and set sail for Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had cut his hair, for he was under a vow. 19 And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there, but he himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. 20 When they asked him to stay for a longer period, he declined. 21 But on taking leave of them he said, “I will return to you if God wills,” and he set sail from Ephesus. 22 When he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church, and then went down to Antioch. 23 After spending some time there, he departed and went from one place to the next through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples. Parsha "Ha'azinu" (Deuteronomy (chapter 32) is the second-to-last reading in the Torah, and the life of Moses. It is, specifically, the second "Song of Moses," that he sings, as a "witness against" them, and us, immediately prior to his death. It's also a warning that hits as close to home now as it ever has. The Erev Shabbat reading begins there: https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/SSM-10-3-25-Ha-azinu-teaching-podcast-xx.mp3 This Sabbath Day midrash comes just after the 'most holy' day of the year, Yom Kippur, and right before the final, climactic week of the Fall Feasts, the time of Sukkot, aka the Feast of Tabernacles, or booths, or even 'mangers.' Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa notes that the confluence of this reading, and the Song of Moses, at this time at the heart of the Fall Feasts should suggest two major admonitions from Scripture: "Know the times and the seasons," and that, furthermore, "NOW is the time!" Sukkot is almost certainly the time when the Messiah, Yahushuah, was actually born. But how many of us have heard, "I don't care - I love Xmas anyway," and similar excuses for accepting what we "know or should know" is a lie. Is this the year to stand on Truth? We also know, or should, that the word "jesus" never even existed until about 16 centuries as the Messiah walked the earth after that birth. No one EVER, not once, called Him by that name. And it thus cannot be (Acts 4) the "only name" by which we can be saved. Does that matter? Most of us have again heard, "I don't care," or "what difference does it really make?" So, if His birthday doesn't really matter, nor does His real Name, what about His Doctrine? Did He "do away with the law," or is that - as Mark strongly suggests - perhaps the Biggest Lie in all of human history? Does His Doctrine matter? Did He change it? Did He really change His Instruction about His moedim [appointed times], His Sabbaths, food, money, marriage - and just about anything else men decided they didn't like from His Word? Ha'azinu: When Does it Finally START to Matter? https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/WT-CooH-10-4-25-Ha-azinu-WHEN-Does-it-Start-to-Matter-podcast-xx-1.mp3 The combined two-part reading and Sabbath midrash:
Do You Struggle with Your “Prayer Life”? Find a Quiet Place for Your Personal Relationship with God and Pray to the Universe's Creator MESSAGE SUMMARY: Do you struggle with your “Prayer Life”, even though you know it is the most important component of a life lived as a Jesus Follower? Abraham provides you with a model for a “Prayer Life” that works. Abraham was an awesome man, and he had things happen in his life that were both important for him and humankind down through the ages as a resultant of his “Prayer Life”. For the development of your own “Prayer Life”, you can learn from Abraham's “Prayer Life”. One of the first things Abraham did, when he went to a new location or was in a new situation, was to build an altar to the Lord and call on the Lord's name in prayer. In Genesis 12:8, Abraham's focus on and the priority given to his “Prayer Life” is described: “From there he {Abraham}moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the LORD and called upon the name of the LORD.". Prayer was a priority for Abraham to build a place for God in his life and for his personal relationship with God. A way you can follow Abraham's example is to find an altar, a church, or a quiet place in your life to worship and pray, and to call upon the Lord's name like Abraham. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift! Thank you that there is nothing I can do to earn your love; it comes without any strings attached. As I close my eyes for these few minutes before you, all I can say is, thank you! In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 133). Zondervan. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. October 5, 2025 - Sunday AM Bible Class In this episode Phil leads a focused, fast-paced study through the “hidden highlights” of John chapters 4–7. With limited time the teacher intentionally touches key episodes and themes: the woman at the well, Jesus' miracles in Cana, the royal official's distant-healing, the Bethesda pool miracle, the feeding and Bread of Life discourse, the loss of disciples, and Jesus' teaching style and authority. Chapter 4 revisited: after the Samaritan encounter the message moves to Cana and Capernaum. The royal official from Herod's household brings a desperate faith—his son healed from sixteen miles away—illustrating that Jesus' word is sufficient and that faith can overcome distance. Cross-references (Luke 8:3) and the way news of Jesus spread are noted as factors that moved people to seek him. Chapter 5 highlights the pool of Bethesda and a man who had lain there thirty-eight years. The speaker explores the man's faith and fading hope, the curious tradition of the angel-troubled waters, and Jesus' vital question, “Do you want to be made whole?” The three action verbs Jesus uses—rise, take, walk—become a practical motif for spiritual response, while the ensuing Sabbath controversy exposes how law-focused leaders missed the miracle of mercy. Chapter 6 touches on the feeding of the 5,000 and then centers on the Bread of Life discourse. The episode contrasts the crowd's physical expectations (food, a political king) with Jesus' spiritual offer—food that endures to eternal life. The controversial language about eating Christ's flesh and drinking his blood is examined as a turning point that split casual followers from committed disciples; many left when they could not reconcile a spiritual message with physical expectations. Chapter 7 draws attention to the manner and matter of Jesus' teaching: he spoke with unique authority and drew crowds because his teaching came from the Sender, not from rabbinical training. The speaker reflects on internal and external verification of truth, warns preachers against seeking human praise, and emphasizes the responsibility of listeners to work on their faith. Key takeaways and applications: true faith is more than a desire for signs and material benefits; it is rooted in Christ's word and requires wholehearted commitment. Practical themes—faith that trusts a word at a distance, the renewing power of hope, and the call to “rise, take, walk”—invite listeners to examine motives for following Jesus. The episode closes with the classic challenge: when confused or disappointed, will you abandon Christ, or will you echo Peter's question, “To whom shall we go?” Format: the episode blends biblical exposition, practical illustration, and application aimed at encouraging deeper faith and a renewed commitment to following Jesus wherever he leads. Duration 43:19
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 5th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Book of Philippians 4:19, out of the Amplified Version: “And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need (I want you to remember that word) according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” The Lord has promised you today and He has promised me that He will supply every one of our needs, not our wants. What are your needs today? I can hear you sitting there, madam, and you are saying, “I don't have any food for my children to eat tonight,” or “I don't know how I am going to pay for a new uniform for my young child's school next year.” Or maybe, sir, you are saying, “I don't know how I am going to pay my accounts. I don't even have enough money for petrol for the motor car.” You are in need. Now, we are both in this together. I am in there with you. “Lord, we need to pay the rent otherwise they are going to chuck us out.”I want to encourage you with this: The Israelites, a whole nation, not a handful of people, over a million people in the desert, stranded, no food, and they are crying to Moses, “Why didn't you just leave us in Egypt where we could have died at least with dignity?” And what happened? God sent manna. The literal translation of the word, “manna” is, “what is it?” So when they woke up in the morning, it was like frost on top of the grass, on the leaves of the bushes. The Hebrew writers called it, “Angel's bread.” Isn't that beautiful? It has a delicious flavour, very nourishing, the Bible tells us, but the funny thing was, as soon as other food was available, it stopped. Yes, I am talking about a miracle. The experts say, there is no known food that resembles the description of manna. The famous poet, Asaf, called it “corn from Heaven.” Isn't that beautiful? It was of a very delicious flavour. If you look at Exodus 16:31: “and the house of Israel called it's name, Manna, And it was like white coriander seed, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.” In the Book of Numbers it talks about pastries. But you know something? Only enough for one day at a time. On Saturday before the Sabbath, they were allowed to collect for two days otherwise it went bad.Today, put your total trust in Jesus. If He can take care and feed a million people in the desert for forty years, every single day, He can take care of your needs and mine.Jesus bless you and goodbye.
Jesus in Prayer MESSAGE SUMMARY: In this powerful exploration of Jesus' identity, we delve into the profound High Priestly Prayer found in John 17. This prayer reveals Jesus not just as a teacher or prophet, but as one who shares in the divine nature with God the Father. We're challenged to consider: Who is Jesus to us personally? The prayer showcases Jesus' unique relationship with the Father, calling Him 'Father' over 160 times in the Gospels. This intimacy extends to us as believers, inviting us into the very fellowship of the Trinity. As we contemplate this, we're reminded that our unity as Christians is rooted in our union with God Himself. The prayer also reveals Jesus' eternal existence and His role in creation, emphasizing His divinity. This understanding transforms how we view the cross - not as a tragedy, but as our salvation. Let's reflect on how this deeper knowledge of Jesus' nature can impact our daily walk with Him and our relationships with others. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift!
