The practice of growing plants in water rather than soil isn't new, though early examples are difficult to substantiate. In the 1930s, hydroponic plant culture made headlines, but the field also had conflict among researchers. Research: Bacon, Francis. “Sylva sylvarum; or, A natural history, in ten centuries. What does it take to have a winning mentality? What does it mean to be mentally tough? Can mental toughness be taught? All these teasing questions are answered on the next episode of To The Last Drop with renowned sports psychologist Henning Gericke. Gericke, a former middle distance athlete of some repute is perhaps best remembered for being part of the Springbok medical team at the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Gericke who currently consults with the Bulls also points to the pitfalls parents face when they have young, aspiring sporting talents under their roof. Hosts Brenden Nel and Liam Del Carme also look ahead to Saturday's Test between the Springboks and England at Twickenham.
We are called to be on mission together -- with God and what he's doing through the Global Body of Christ. God is at work around the world, particularly through the Global Church. As we go on mission whether internationally or within our home communities, we should discern how the Spirit is inviting us to partner with those God is already at work in.

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

We discussed the psychological state of our National teams, the Proteas, Bafana and Banyana Banyana, with Psychologist Dr Henning Gericke.
In 1495, a mysterious and deadly plague struck the city of Naples. Over the next 500 years, the medical attempts to understand and treat this new disease -- syphilis -- would mold and shape medicine in surprising ways. In this episode, Tony Breu and I will perform an historical and physiological biography of syphilis, covering the development of germ theory, epic poetry, mercury saunas, intentionally infecting patients with malaria, magic bullets, and lots and lots of experiments on poor rabbits. This presentation was performed live at the American College of Physicians’ national meeting in Philadelphia on April 11, 2019. Beyond The Cover is back with sixty minutes of great author interviews. First we will have bestselling author Robert Dugoni and then Shane Gericke is back with a "Fury". Robert Dugoni: "Her Final Breath": Homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite has returned to the police force after the sensational retrial of her sister's killer. Still scarred from that ordeal, Tracy is pulled into an investigation that threatens to end her career, if not her life. A serial killer known as the Cowboy is killing young women in cheap motels in North Seattle and Tracy receives a menacing message suggesting the killer could be targeting her personally. With clues scarce and more victims dying, Tracy realizes the key to solving the murders may lie in a decade-old homicide investigation that others, including her captain, Johnny Nolasco, would prefer to keep buried. With the Cowboy on the hunt, can Tracy find the evidence to stop him, or will she become his next victim? Shane Gericke: "Fury": The Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico washes a secret cache of Cold War doomsday weapons onto a Mexican beach: VX nerve gas bombs laced with anthrax, invented by the Nazis during World War II and perfected by the United States to use against Russia during the Cold War. The bombs soon fall into the wrong hands and create an unstoppable opponent—a cartel boss consumed with hate for America. Only one Chicago Police detective stands in the way of those bombs being exploded on American soil. Reeling from the recent murder of her husband, as well as allegations of police misconduct, Detective Superstition “Sue” Davis is thrown into an undercover assignment filled with treachery, assassination, double-crosses, and death.

Host: Robert Price A couple of student hecklers once reproved Marlowe's Dr. Faustus: "Faustus! Plumb the depths of that which you profess!" Many evangelical Christians have buckled down to study apologetics or biblical studies in just that spirit—and wound up not professing any more! Their stories are often eerily similar yet always fascinating! And such a delver was Jaco Gericke. First he read the "safe" stuff, then the books they warned him not to read, and then everything else! Today Dr. Gericke is on the faculty of Humanities at North-West University in South Africa. He holds the Doctor of Letters degree in Semitic Languages and a Ph.D. in Old Testament with a specialization in Philosophy of Religion. He is the author of dozens of published papers and conference presentations. One of his essays, "Can God Exist if Yahweh Doesn't?" appears in the new John W. Loftus anthology, The End of Christianity from Prometheus Books. His quest is strikingly similar to that of Point of Inquiry host Robert M. Price, who interviews him here. You're welcome to come and compare notes.
