In this part, I go into part 1 of the WIN/WIN of the 7 Habits, and how Sun Tsu in The Art of War, explains how this is possible, even though the 2 books were written hundreds of years apart. I also review the movie VIOLENT NIGHT. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/david-shore2/support
If you wanna walk the walk, you gotta talk the talk. In this case, "walk the walk" means get a job, and "talk the talk" means...what it sounds like. Talk yourself up. It's called schmoozing, and it's an art as ancient as humanity itself. That's why Cody wrote Schmooze: What They Should Teach at Harvard Business School, which could be seen as the diplomatic partner to Sun Tsu's The Art of War. Okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it really is an important skill. Without it, this podcast never would have existed. What a horrifying thought.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Opening & closing music courtesy of Bellevue Presbyterian Church (37221)We got hurt & the nation demanded retribution. We lost the first battle of WW IV and we don't know it! We don't even know when it happened. Was it the Marine barracks in Lebanon or the USS Cole? 911 was a wake-up call. What are we trained to do in an emergency? Dial nine - one - one of course. It's the one thing you may do from an otherwise locked iPhone. Our problem is our focus we employed the same strategy as in Viet Nam. We fought an amorphous enemy on his terms. The famous “seek & destroy” found nothing & destroyed the wrong stuff. We could have played The “Great Satan” card & made Kabul vanish in a cloud of nuclear dust. Sun Tsu would have counseled patience. “Know your enemy & in 1000 battles, you will not know defeat.” Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Welcome to today's #WednesdayWisdom from Way of The Renaissance Man Starring Jim Woods Today's insight was inspired by the Ancient Chinese military treatise, The Art of War by Sun Tsu. “Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories.” — Sun Tzu The iconic military strategist's seminal work, “The Art of War,” is replete with lessons about life. Here, Sun Tzu reminds us that the key to victory is not only knowing your enemy, but also knowing yourself. Until you master yourself, you can never really be confident in any of life's battles. "If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles." - Sun Tsu in The Art of War The English word "manipulation" originates from the Latin term "manipulus", meaning "handful". As time progressed, our understanding of manipulation morphed to mean "handling something skillfully". With the present understanding of manipulation, "to influence covertly", our current definition carries plenty of negative connotations. American intelligence agencies have told the Biden administration that if U.S. troops leave before a power-sharing settlement is reached between the Taliban and the Afghan government, the country could fall largely under the control of the Taliban within two or three years after the withdrawal of international forces. That could potentially open the door for Al Qaeda to rebuild its strength within the country, according to American officials. (Click Here for Full Article) From www.militarytimes.com: U.S. military equipment could end up in the hands of Taliban fighters and terrorist groups as American troops withdraw thousands of vehicles, weapons and other military items from Afghanistan in coming months, Defense Department officials acknowledged on Thursday. But military planners said they are using the time left until the pullout is completed to minimize that threat, while doing as much as they can to leave Afghan partners with tools to continue the fight. (Click Here for Full Article) From www.bbc.com: At least 27 children have been killed in Afghanistan in three days amid fierce fighting between the Taliban and government forces, the UN has said. The UN children's agency Unicef said it was shocked by the "rapid escalation of grave violations against children". The Taliban have been making major advances across the country as foreign troops withdraw, taking six regional capitals since Friday. (Click Here for Full Article)

How do we unpick the damage of Neoliberalism? How can we break the connections between work and income and unsustainable consumerism? Amidst the ideas of how our climate is changing, Professor Mark Maslin, FRGS, FRSA, offers answers to the social and economic ills of our time. Mark Maslin FRGS, FRSA is a Professor of Earth System Science at University College London. He is a Royal Society Industrial Fellowship, Executive Director of Rezatec Ltd and Director of The London NERC Doctoral Training Partnership. He is a member of Cheltenham Science Festival Advisory Committee and sits on the Corporate Social Responsibility Board of the Sopria-Steria Group and Sheep Included Ltd. Mark is a leading scientist with particular expertise in past global and regional climatic change. He has published over 175 papers in journals such as Science, Nature, and The Lancet. His areas of scientific expertise include causes of past and future global climate change and its effects on the global carbon cycle, biodiversity, rainforests and human evolution. He also works on monitoring land carbon sinks using remote sensing and ecological models and international and national climate change policies, and has presented over 50 public talks over the last five years including Google UK, Twitter EU, New Scientist Live, UK Space conference, Oxford, Cambridge, RGS, Tate Modern, Royal Society of Medicine, Fink Club, Frontline Club, British Museum, Natural History Museum, Goldman Sachs, the Norwegian Government, UNFCCC COP and the WTO. He has also written 8 popular books, over 60 popular articles. His “Climate Change: A Very Short Introduction” by Oxford University Press is now in its fourth edition and has sold over 50,000 copies. In this podcast, we talk about his most recent book, 'How to Save our Planet: the Facts' which does exactly what it says on the tin. A crips, cleanly written, utterly absorbing book, this is one of the clearest books ever written on the nature of the problems that assail us, the fact that it's not too late to change - and what we need to do at every level of society to change things. It's small enough to leave in the smallest room of the house - or by the kettle in the kitchen - so that everyone who comes by can pick it up and learn something useful. This is how we change the world, one aphorism at a time. - Dicton chinois

Welcome to the 9th in our 17-part series on dementia. About 50 million people suffer from dementia worldwide. It is a debilitating disease, but it may be preventable. So I've set out to learn as much as I can and bring you along with me. By now, if you've been with me, you know what dementia is, and you know some of the different types. Today we're going to talk about preventing dementia, which is the whole point, right? As you might expect, this is where my main interest lies in this series. I mean, you need to know something about the enemy before you set about fighting him, but the fight is the thing, and like Sun Tsu said in the art of war, "The greatest victory is that which requires no battle." So that's what we're going to do. We're going to defeat dementia before we have to fight it. Read the full post at http://RunningAFEVER.com/232
C'entra Von Clausewitz? O forse Sun Tsu?
On today's show we look at some of the principles described in Sun Tsu's art of war and compare them to certain wars in history. We look at the Persia Greco wars, American revolutionary War, and the Texas war for independence to see if the adherence to the principles leads to success or failure. Keep fighting. "Know your enemies and know your self." Sun Tsu knows what's up, and so does the very loquacious and knowledgeable writer Art Starr, who made a memorable appearance on The D & Davis Show in January 2015 as the Packers made the playoffs once again and the Bears were left behind hoping that new hire John Fox would be the answer to the team's problems (spoiler: he wasnt). This week on #FlashbackFriday, as the longest-held NFL rivalry prepares to take place once again, learn how a lifelong Bears fan (Starr) put together a Bible on the Cheeseheads who make up the Packers' fan base and get his unique takes on how they translate to the Hebrews of the Old Testament and what football truly means to America and the human spirit.

Episode 010: “All warfare is based on deception”, said Sun Tsu in the Art of War. No, this episode isn't about war or the military. But the traumas with the highest propensity to develop PTSD involve interpersonal violence. The more personal and close to you, the worse the PTSD chances. So, this episode is in acknowledgement to the fact that there are perpetrators and those that wished us harm during the traumas that we claim led to PTSD. What's most important is that you don't blame yourself for parts of the trauma, or its prevention or handling afterwards, that you couldn't control. Let Go of the Old Lies When you look at Western deterioration of family values, the quality of the food and water supply, an expensive and unhealthy medical system, and plummeting education standards, you realize that your whole life you never really got taught the right things about practically everything – and you get a little miffed. I use that frustration to fuel my own research into the programs I teach on PTSDacademy.com, but others are not so fortunate. Love Your Enemies? "Every time you point a finger at someone else, there are three pointing back at you." "Hurt people hurt people." I must admit that I have a weakness for ancient sayings and the new, but in my human frailty as a psychiatrist the words I repeat from others often feel empty - when not bathed in love. If my empathy is running short, it can be felt by others! Therefore, it is imperative that we all nurture ourselves and take care when we ought, so as to avoid the troubles that come with inauthentic counsel. In other words, YOU too have been the culprit, the perpetrator of trauma to others or you'd hardly be human at all. Even the nicest people have unintentionally crushed the spirit of a child with an ill word muttered under the breath. Some of us have simply grown uncomfortable with ignoring such family "values". Heal and forgive yourself of your misdeeds and you'll find it easier to overcome your own pain. Mid-Life Crisis Redefined I think this in an important factor during a mid-life crisis when you realize the plans you are currently making are probably wrought with flawed thinking too. Think about it. Half of life is already over and you don't want to go on believing wrong information anymore – thank you YouTube and Google, right? So, if you're like me and want to quit learning things the hard way then I invite you to look at it this way: "The sooner you can accept the impossibility of getting access to the crucial pieces of accurate information you need to make the healthiest decisions you can for you and your loved ones. Even if you could, it is practically impossible to access or decipher the information if you could get it. It would take several PhD's or a few really good podcasts to understand." Anonymous. Avoid Fear-Based Press and Ads Yes, there is corruption at every level: congress, pharmaceutical companies, lobbyists, etc. – all fighting for what they want. So, you almost have to have an analytical degree of Master's level or higher just to sort through the misinformation, particularly on the increasingly discredited internet. Remember, “all warfare is based on deception”. Don't be a victim of that deception. Commit today to inform yourself. This can't be done overnight but take a class, call in to a teleconference with me – one way or the other be responsible in your life with this information. So, I'm serious when I say the world needs more podcasts and thinkers! We need you too. Mainstream Treatment of PTSD Look at all the things we had to cover so that we could put medications and psychotherapy into their proper perspective. It took 10 episodes to get to the mainstream treatment of PTSD! This episode concludes SECTION II called Actual Treatment for Moral Injury. The third and final section of The PTSD Blueprint is called PTSD Treatment: Healing the Physical Body after Trauma. The next episode is #11, titled Mainstream Treatment of PTSD.

Jennifer Jackson is the owner and director of award-winning employee experience company, Jaxzyn. Jen helps leaders go beyond mediocrity in the workplace and is a regular presenter at conferences and workshops, sharing insights from her work around the world. She has guided strategy, change, culture and leadership programs for Nestlé, McDonald's, Mattel, Origin Energy, and Coca-Cola. We talk to Jen about her successful new book, How to Speak Human. When people ask Jennifer what she does, how does she like to reply? Jen is a realistic idealist. What is that? The book is How to Speak Human, do we not know or do we know how to speak human? Jen's view of the word professional George Bernard Shaw wrote "the single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” Do many leaders have the illusion that it has taken place? How do we create a rhythm of communication around our Mission/Vision/Values? Are we becoming more visually literate? Is our expectation that work will look more visually appealing? Should that visual appeal also work on the communication to our teams internally? For the new generations at work, work is more than just a wage. What is it about? Consistency, Consistency, Consistency, grenade… we discuss the value of rituals and routines. Are many of us on autopilot each day without thinking to break the cycle for concerted explicit thinking? What breaks habituation for us personally and in the workplace? Sun Tsu, The Art of War says we must know the enemy. In Jen's mind, who is the enemy of our day to day? Learning is remembering. Is Jen a believer in note-taking and journaling. What is Jen's process for taking notes to learn and remember? What are the killers of curiosity? How do leaders need to take complexity and deliver it in such a way to create sense and simplicity to gain buy-in? Dealing with "jargon ladened long, tedious meetings, and endless scrolling emails padded with waffle”. How does our language focusses our attention and improves our performance?
Hello Investors and welcome to the truth about real estate investing show, my name is Erwin Szeto your host bringing you lessons, tips, and tricks from the trenches from actual investors who are self made millionaires and multi millionaires. I ask the questions so we may learn about their habits and strategies so we may replicate their success and along the way I share some of what I’m up helping myself and others build inter-generational wealth and financial freedom so we may live our lives however we may choose. First off, my charity the Hamilton Basket Brigade, we are heading into the final stretch to make this Christmas the best Christmas ever for 24 impoverished families in Hamilton. Where do we find these families you ask? We literally asked the Catholic and Public elementary school boards for their worst cases. We have raised over $12,000 for this event and thanks to a 200 toy donation from Spin Master Toys, every kid is going home with a toy. December 15th can not come soon enough! If you’d like to donate or volunteer for our next event in Easter of 2019 head to www.HamiltonBasketBrigade.com we are a registered charity so you get an automated donation receipt in your inbox. As the President of the Hamilton Basket Brigade, thank you everyone for your support and have a happy holidays!! On to the subject of investing, I get a lot of questions about my own investing. In a nutshell it has gone like this, I’ve transacted personally on over 30 properties. I’ve done flips, student rentals, regular buy and hold, executive rentals, legal non conforming multis, legal permitted duplexes in Toronto, Burlington, Brantford, St. Catharines, and of course Hamilton. The only thing I haven’t done is rent-to-own because honestly, I’m young and because I’m an avid student of economics, I’m bullish on the market and didn’t want to leave any more on the table on a rent to own buyout. Luckily I played my cards right. My wife is also an Accountant to real estate investors so she knows where the money is… Admittedly my portfolio has been neglected as I’ve built out my investor coaching business so I’m dipping my toes back into the water with a flier campaign, I’ve hired a sales person, I launched a new SEO optimized website, created a paid ad on kijiji, and launching a paid traffic campaign. I’m investing a lot of time and effort into this business but next i’ll try going old school and take an ad out in the local paper :P Leads are starting to trickle in and I’ll go more in depth into what I’m up to at my monthly networking meetings. This may sound like overkill but what I’ve listed is basically the best practice of several investors I’ve been mentored by or masterminded with. Everything will be measured for performance but I believe in Sun Tsu’s “Art of War” in the best way to optimize the outcome of me acquiring great property is to cover all my bases. Quitting Corporate, Doubling Income, Tripling Portfolio with James "Money Baggs" Maggs James is an old friend of mine, we met at REIN’s ACRE event in 2010, he’s investing in Hamilton, I’m Mr. Hamilton, me teaching him how to invest made a lot of sense. James was already investing on his own but was getting a poor return on his time and efforts till I showed him an easier way and he bought FIVE properties in the first 12 months we were working together. With a sized decent portfolio, James started his own property management company with plans to expand. He asked me my advice and I invited him to join my rapidly growing team and he did and now he’s the top performer on my team and somewhere in the top 10% for the whole country. After a very challenging few months of transitioning out of corporate and coaching investors to acquire quality investment properties, the writing was on the wall it was time to leave corporate for his exploding coaching business. The gamble paid off as the next 12 months resulted in six figures of active income, the most he’d ever made and soon after James we able to 2x his job income. Fast forward to today, as a full time coach and licensed real estate professional, James just acquired three more properties in 2018, he vacations 6-7 weeks per year with his family in his condo next to the beach in Costa Rica in the winters and just renovated his backyard with a pool for summers. James is also a founding board member of the Hamilton Basket Brigade and top five sponsor so he gives his time and money back to the community. To me, that’s what real estate investing is about. The financial freedom to enjoy life, having an impact on those around you, and your community. Here is James’ story and how he earned the nickname Money Baggs

Ben Amos Interview: Using Video Strategically (Business Episode) Welcome back to the Love Your Story interview land. Today we embark on a business episode in our interview with Ben Amos from Austrailia. Ben is a passionate online video strategist and the host of Engage with Story podcast. He is the founder and creative director of Innovate Media; an online video strategy and production agency based in Queensland, Australia. His podcast is all about exploring the power of storytelling in moving people to action in your business strategy. He talks with expert story artists from around the world deep diving into storytelling for business. I’ve asked him on the podcast today to talk about the angle of strategy. Stay tuned for our discussion from the land down-under. Stories are our lives in language. Welcome to the Love Your Story podcast. I’m Lori Lee, and I’m excited for our future together of telling stories, evaluating our own stories, and lifting ourselves and others to greater places because of our control over our stories. This podcast is about empowerment and giving you, the listener, ideas to work with in making your stories work for you. Story power serves you best when you know how to use it. In our business episodes we often discuss the importance of using story to connect with clients or employees, stakeholders or potential investors, but today we’re getting into the angle of how to grow market reach by strategically using story. This is Ben’s area of expertise. So, welcome to the Love Your Story podcast Ben. Listen to the audio for the interview with Ben Amos With any business endeavor, embarking with a strategy in mind, rather than using the throw a handful-of mud at the wall and see what sticks approach is generally the best idea. This way the money you are spending, the audience you are reaching, the efforts being put into the business have a purpose and end plan. Using story IS the most powerful way to connect with people in order to create a space of interest and a form for remembering what you’ve communicated, but when we tell the stories with purpose we are taking steps directly toward our goal. Sun Tsu, Ancient Chinese Military Strategist said, “Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory, tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” Your strategy is what Ben is talking about – the vision he helps his client get before stepping on to the trail, and the tactics are the use of stories in the appropriate places to achieve this strategy. Thanks for tuning in today. Have a great week creating your best stories and if you haven’t signed up for the 21-Day Challenge yet, go to www.loveyourstorypodcast.com (http://www.loveyourstorypodcast.com) and hop on the train of testing out fun story tools in this guided 3 week challenge. Putin has baffled the Obama Administration. They don't know what he's doing and don't know what we should do about it. Maybe they should ask Marco Rubio or Mitt Romney or Sun Tsu. They all seemed to know what was going on.
