In this week's episode we share the three career defining pivots that brought Vishal to leading YouTube Health in the UK. We discussed:
This episode is the last on in the series of three discussions about natural language processing in healthcare. In the first episode, I discussed the state of symptom checkers with Jeff Cutler, CCO of Ada Health - the leading symptom-checking provider. In the second episode, CEO of Suki, Punit Singh Soni, explained where voice technology is today in helping doctors better manage their medical records and notes taking. And today's discussion will give you a comment and critical perspective on using ChatGPT in healthcare and other large language models such as Google's MedPalm. OBJECTIVES OF THE DISCUSSION: To clarify the state of natural language processing in healthcare - to which extent is this moving from research to practical use, To create a clear, realistic picture of ChatGPT and MedPaLM implications Speakers: Alexandre Lebrun - CEO of Nabla - a french company that has created an AI-based medical assistant that makes healthcare professionals more efficient. For instance, it automates clinical documentation and patient engagement. Israel Krush, CEO of Hyro - mostly present in the US market - the world's first headache-free conversational AI, especially focused on healthcare. It's used for automation across call centers, mobile apps, websites and SMS include physician search, scheduling, prescription refills, FAQs and more. ChatGPT has been entertaining and amazing the world in the last month, and there's no shortage of ideas and new inspiration about what AI could do for healthcare. In a short series of three episodes, we will touch upon this topic from three angles: will first take a look at the state of symptom checkers and their accuracy today, the development and state of voice tech and natural language processing for structuring data, and end with a comment on ChatGPT, chatbots and Google's recently released paper on MultiMedQA, a benchmark combining six existing open question answering datasets spanning professional medical exams, research, and consumer queries; and HealthSearchQA, a new free-response dataset of medical questions searched online. Today you'll hear from a discussion with Jeff Cutler - Chief Commercial Officer of Ada Health, whom I spoke with at HLTH. Ada is the world's most popular symptom assessment app, with 10 million users and 25 million completed assessments. Every three seconds, someone turns to Ada for personal health guidance. Discussion topics: the development of accuracy and business models of symptom checkers, how is Ada improving the accuracy of its algorithms, their partnership with the likes of Sutter Health to enhance the care patients receive even before entering the doctor's office. *** BTW: Did you check our newsletter yet? Have you ever looked up your symptoms on Dr. Google only for it to mistakenly say you have cancer or something worse? In this episode, Peter Bannister, Vice President of Life Sciences at Ada Health, talks about how Ada has developed a more informed and accurate alternative for people to initially go to when feeling unwell. With the help of cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology, a vast medical knowledge engine behind it, and high clinical evidence expertise and standards, Ada Health can be used as an app or in other familiar interfaces to allow people to report symptoms and have a personalized question flow; The result of this is a set of suggested conditions that concur with their symptomatology. Ada has a user-friendly version for patients and one designed for the healthcare professional to review, accelerating the doctor-patient relationship. Peter explains how Ada focuses on low and middle-income countries and is available in 11 languages, including Swahili and Arabic. It seeks to be a reliable tool that triages users to the correct provider and form of treatment, allowing them to interact with an expert to get the support and care needed.
Dr Vishaal Virani is Head of UK Health at YouTube. He started his career as an NHS doctor, before moving to healthcare strategy consulting. He then worked at Ada Health as Business Development and Client Success Director, before becoming Global Digital Innovation Manager at Reckitt. Along the way he co-founded Doctorpreneurs which was one of the first and largest networks of doctor entrepreneurs. As well as his role at YouTube, Vishaal is also a Governor at the Royal Free London NHS Trust. This episode is a bit different to usual. This is a call in which I'm getting some mentorship advice on how to build my network in digital health, and how I should be leveraging this podcast to make useful and lasting connections. Although the advice is specific to my case, I think it's quite useful for anyone who's starting their career in healthcare and wants to do interesting things in research, entrepreneurship or policy. I think Vishaal's advice is quite broadly applicable to anyone in similar shoes. Towards the end we discuss YouTube's mission in healthcare, and some of the challenges that come along with it.

And Ada actually does just that-it puts an AI doctor in your pocket. Anytime you feel unwell you can indicate your symptoms in the Ada app and it gives you direction on how to proceed. Awesome no? What's even more awesome is that Ada raised $69.3M to push full steam ahead and influence the health system for the better. We are overly excited to have had Dr. Claire Novorol at The Family for a fireside-chat lead by Balthazar De Lavergne, Director at The Family. She is the Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Ada and shared valuable insights with us. *** Learn more about The Family and apply to join us here: thefamily.co Check out the video of the talk here: An evening with Claire Novorol, Founder & CMO of Ada Health Check out other videos on our Youtube channel: Startupfood Check out our events here: The Family Events We also write amazing articles: Medium

Many apps measure success in MAUs and DAUs, but this approach doesn’t cut it for every category. For that you are going to need a deeper understanding of audiences and better approach to re-engagement, combining both will drive frequent use and build lasting trust. Our host and Chief Content Officer Peggy Anne Salz catches up with Marvin Rottenberg, VP of Marketing at Ada Health. The company’s conversational health companion app--developed by doctors, scientists and engineers--provides users personalized medical insights and advises on appropriate next steps. Marvin, recently named App Marketer of the Year(2018), shares how Ada Health uses creatives and feedback to stay top of mind with users—even when they aren’t relying on the app to assess their symptoms. Marvin also discusses how the app relies on other input, such as location, to trigger use and deepen engagement.
