Most entrepreneurs think they need a new growth strategy. What they actually need is a better relationship with themselves. In this episode, the tables turn as Sarah Lockwood, the founder of HiveCast, interviews Alex Raymond about the upcoming Conscious Entrepreneur Summit, happening May 28–29 in Boulder, Colorado. Now in its fourth year, the summit offers something most business events miss entirely: a chance to work on the person behind the company. Alex shares how the idea for the summit came from countless conversations where founders showed up to talk about strategy but ended up revealing stress, fear, and self-doubt. What if those internal struggles are actually the bottleneck in your business? And what would happen if you had space to name them, examine them, and move through them? This year's summit features Dr. Benjamin Hardy, the author of 10x is Easier Than 2x, leading a small-group workshop on the psychology of exponential thinking. Dr. Michael Freeman, a leading voice in entrepreneur mental health research, will speak on how entrepreneurship can become a path for deep personal growth. Sarah and Alex also talk about what makes this event feel so different. The connections are real. The conversations go deep quickly. And the room is full of people who are serious about growth, not just in revenue, but in clarity, confidence, and capacity. If you're the kind of founder who wants to scale your business without losing yourself in the process, The 2025 Conscious Entrepreneur Summit might be exactly what you've been looking for. Impacting culture has to extend beyond the immediate. No one has done this better than Percy Miller aka Master P who is the founder of No Limit Records and P. Miller Enterprises. He’s an entrepreneur, a former basketball player, and rapper and we can all learn a little something from this well-rounded businessman. This episode is from a conversation at the 2019 Entrepreneur Summit in Atlanta, where he and and his friend and business partner, Mr. James Lindsay shared details about creating the popular Rap Snacks chips brand, their expansion into the food industry, and their efforts to create more opportunities within our community. I welcome Cemal Ezel, Founder and Ceo of Change Please to episode #179 of Screw It, Just Do It: UK Social Entrepreneur Of The Year, 2017, $1 Million Chivas Venture Winner, and Richard Branson's Startup of the Year 2018 - and the man responsible for the coffee you're drinking onboard a Virgin Train or Virgin Atlantic Airways aircraft. I had the pleasure of catching up with Cemal twice in one week in October, as he very kindly spoke at my Entrepreneur Summit 2019 and at the SME forum I host for British American Business every quarter for UK businesses looking to scale in the US. Now I've known Cemal for 4 or 5 years now and the growth of his business has been nothing short of phenomenal. I last interviewed him two years ago in 2017 and other than Piers Linney, this is the only repeat guest I've had on this show. Why: Because my 2017 interview with him was, and still is, my personal favourite of every episode ever recorded for this show. I wanted to highlight what's possible - anything - if you're super-focused, persevere and are very clear on your why. It's just one hell of a story. Change Please trains people who are homeless as barista's and provides each person with a London living wage job, housing, bank account and mental health support. Today's episode comes in two parts, first my chat with Cemal in front of our live audience, complete with paper rustling form yours truly, secondly, an up to date talk from Cemal on Change Please's expansion into the US and the challenges that they have faced. We talk about: The perceptions that need changing around social businesses Distribution being the biggest challenge The currency of the future StartUp!
"There were people there from Marks & Spencer & John Lewis. They were asking ‘how do you get people working for you?’ And Mark said ‘we’ll we take all the ones that you don’t want! We’ll take people with piercings, facial hair, tattoos, coloured hair, whatever you like. If you’ve got the passion and you want to work with us and you’re going to enjoy what we do, then you’re very welcome” Welcome to episode #175 with LUSH UK Co-founder Rowena Bird, recorded live at last Thursday's Entrepreneur Summit 2019 at the Hilton in Bournemouth. This is how we opened Entrepreneur Summit 2019, myself and Rowena in front of our sold out audience for our 2nd annual summit in Bournemouth. It was difficult to pick a highlight, but this has got to be up there. Rowena was one of six people who founded LUSH, the cruelty-free cosmetics brand 25 years ago in Poole, Dorset - the town in which I now call my home. Lush was set-up after the demise of the six partners previous business, Cosmetics To Go. They started with just one shop on Poole High Street, and have grown to over 900 worldwide, and a turnover of over $1 Billion. This, is my chat with Rowena Bird. We talk about: All Are Welcome Always Be Curious Autonomy Let's StartUp!
Welcome to the trailer for episode #175 with LUSH Co-Founder Rowena Bird recorded live at the opening to Entrepreneur Summit 2019 in Bournemouth, England on October 17th. Rowena was one of six people who founded LUSH, the cruelty-free cosmetics brand nearly 25 years ago in Poole, Dorset. They started with just one shop on Poole High Street, and today have grown to 900+ stores worldwide and a turnover of $1 Billion. Join me for the full episode on Wednesday, October 23rd.
Getting people to come to an event that you put on is a huge challenge. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it's tricky to pull off. Far from wanting to put you off, I wanted to give you some actionable advice on the eve of Entrepreneur Summit 2019 this coming week. ✅ Just because you have a 'well known' name in your space as your headliner - doesn’t mean anyone else knows who they are - or that they share your enthusiasm ✅ There has to be a genuine reason why you want to host an event, and that has to be more than purely financial, or simply because you're passionate about the theme. ✅ Which leads me on to the theme itself - A big mistake people make is when an event blends in with everyone else with an overall ‘business’ topic theme. There are plenty of inspirational talks on podcasts, YouTube and online generally ✅ The value you create for someone else has to be worth their time and money for coming to what you put on - especially on a cold, dark, wet, winter night - in the UK at least! You're competing, especially in big cities with loads of other events, and yours has to stand out above the noise. ✅ It's a fine line positioning your promotional activity, and to not being seen as being 'spammy'. So address the above, and if you want to throw that event then I'm not going to be the one to tell you not to. I've been throwing events for nearly four years now - and the rewards are pretty awesome. Just seeing one person make a connection, take one actionable insight away, or inspire them to change their life. That makes it all worthwhile. For those of you coming this Thursday for Entrepreneur Summit 2019 - I look forward to meeting you. Last remaining tickets
Today I bring you episode #168: a show, with a difference. Now normally Saturday's are a solo episode from yours truly. A bit of background: Back at the start of the summer we hosted a live episode with Jimmy's Iced Coffee's brand new product launch - their Flat White in a can, with the whole Jimmy's crew including founders Susie Owen and Jim Cregan - plus a live audience at Urban Garden in Bournemouth. We also ran a competition to win a mentoring session with Jim, myself, Virgin StartUp mentor Russ Taplin from Mmm thoughtful business. The winner was Jean Daniel Francois, professional chef and entrepreneur who owns the Grill Shack and Tikki Bars in both Bournemouth and London, and who this year also launched his Caribbean Magic range of sauces. He's also a husband and busy father. His passion is his cooking and serving that to his customers and getting their feedback. It was great to dig beneath the surface and find out what his biggest challenges were, and work through therewith Jim, who's got a decade in the food and beverage business, plus Russ, who's helped many businesses form a wide variety of sectors. A quick note before we dive in is that we have just released a limited number of half day tickets to this years Entrepreneur Summit on October 17th in Bournemouth. Full details are here In today's episode we discuss: Productising - and bottling your USP The move to plastic free Family - and work/life balance If you liked this episode, and think we should do more of them, email me alex@screwitjustdoit.org or message me on social @alexchisnall everywhere except Instagram where I'm @alexanderchisnall
Welcome to the trailer for episode #165 in which I welcome Camilla Ainsworth, the youngest finalist in the history of the BBC Apprentice series. Whilst Lord Sugar didn't choose her, the CEO of Holland & Barrett was suitably impressed with her vegan Nut milk Mylkplus and she went ahead to launch the dairy alternative into 645 of their stores where in continues to sell out. Camilla is a huge advocate for women in business and has conducted workshops to facilitate start ups. She'll therefore be a great addition to the line-up for Entrepreneur Summit 2019 Listen to the full episode from Wednesday, September 17th.
On episode #163 I welcome the founders from two of Britain's brightest food and beverage challenger brands: Dan Broughton, co-founder of Dalston's Soda Co & Emily Fitch-Deeley, co-founder of Fitch Brew Co They are both part of a burgeoning scene. 10 years or so ago quality products weren’t as accessible. But since then there’s been a street food revolution, the evolution of gin, and the craft beer movement. Both believe in making something with higher-quality, natural ingredients, and therefore less of the sugar or artificial sweeteners relied upon to flavour mainstream products. The “Innocent and Fever-Tree effect”, has more recently led to a boom in investment in small, creative drinks companies and people have cottoned on to the fact that there is money to be made in small food and drink businesses if it’s done correctly. Regular listeners to this show will have heard me champion the likes of Ugly Drinks, Pip & Nut, Jimmy's Iced Coffee, Rejuvenation Water, and more recently, Nix & Kix and Double Dutch Drinks. Dan has nearly 20 years in the industry behind him, working for the likes of Cadbury's and Green & Black's whilst Emily has worked for Pernod and Brewdog. I got together with Dan and Emily to chat about: The shift in perception of the benefits of alcoholic v non-alcoholic drinks Sustainability Transparency The health-driven benefits of non-alcoholic drinks Where Gen Z & Millenials meet - and their choice of drinks Roller Hockey - and dislocated shoulders A massive thanks to all who entered our August contest to win a day out with myself and the team at Entrepreneur Summit 2019 in Bournemouth. You can still rate and review the show at anytime - something which I'm always eternally grateful for, and which always gets a shout-out from me. Entrepreneur Summit 2019 is the centrepiece of the year for everything Screw It, Just Do It, a chance for the online community to get together physically. To see and hear some of our interviewee's in the flesh, to ask their own questions - instead of just mine - and share a once-a-year experience together. I've outdone myself with the line-up, you can see it in full here. Back to today's show. I really enjoyed chatting with Dan and Emily about the challenges they face as challenger brands in the FMCG category and believe you will do so too. Let's StartUp!
On today's show I welcome Julia Kessler and Kerstin Robinson, founders of Nix & Kix, a health-focused soft drinks brand with the added kick of cayenne pepper. I met up with them on the hottest day of the year at their London HQ, and they managed to rehydrate me with some of their delicious drinks. Serendipity brought the two of them together when they were both at the airport moving from Germany to the UK as you'll hear during our chat. They're now at the forefront of exciting brands reshaping the soft drinks market, ditching the sugar-fuelled excesses of the last few decades with a very definitive USP, through adding cayenne to their drinks. To my delicate palette is is subtle, yet distinctive, and sets them apart from others in their category as cayenne helps to boost metabolism and been proven to increase endorphin levels, giving that feel good pick-me-up. It certainly worked for me as I was most definitely flagging in the London heat! They've come a long way from a small shop in Shoreditch in 2014 to 4,000+ outlets throughout the UK and Europe, including all the big supermarkets as well as restaurant chains such as Wagamama's and Giraffe. This is a brand with a difference. A FINAL reminder that our August contest ends this week - you can win an all-day ticket to October 17th's Entrepreneur Summit 2019 in Bournemouth, Uk. You'll get to hang out with me and the team that bring you this show, plus meet our all-star line-up of speakers, and join us at the after-parties. Maybe we'll even shoot some content for the show! Just leave a review, screenshot it, and email alex@screwitjustdoit,org before the end of August, when I'll pick a couple of winners. If you'd like to make sure of attending, just click the link to the event above to purchase a ticket, using the promo code SIJDI to get 10%. Let's StartUp!
"I ran into several angel investors. They came up with this idea, and said 'You are the guy with the brains from the space side, do you want to quit your job and start an entrepreneurial venture and see how we can make money in the space industry?' That was basically the pitch. On which I quit my job." Welcome to episode #157 with Coen Janssen, Co-Founder of Hiber, whose miniature satellites are helping to get the world online and help connectivity. Having launched its first nano satellites into orbit in late 2018, Hiber will be providing connectivity to the 90% of the world lacking a network, and at a significantly cheaper price than existing alternatives. I recently caught up with Coen, who's based in Amsterdam, via a Skype call to discuss how Hiber's technology can bring changes to a wide array of different industries. A reminder that we're running a contest throughout August where you can win an all-day ticket to October 17th's Entrepreneur Summit 2019 in Bournemouth, Uk. Coen Jansen says the value of IOT, or internet of things, is estimated at roughly $4 Billion, although the total monetary impact is expected to be in the Trillions of $. Hiber have already had a host of companies from agriculture, logistics, transportation and environmental sectors all sign up to their network. I personally find this really fascinating, and I hope you do too. Let's StartUp!
"If you keep on trying something long enough you will figure it out. A lot of people aren't willingly to put that time in." I say to my team "Fail faster, faster, faster, faster. I want you to fail twenty times today so that we can get to the next step and figure out what to do next. Every time we fail we learn something new, and we continually whittle down the possibilities of what will work. That's not for everyone. I love it now. I've been making products that are first in the world, only in the world for about seven or eight years and it's super-scary in the beginning because you have no idea whether it will work at all. There's no blueprint. There's no case study on this business did it and this is what we can learn. But once you do it and you're alone in your market, it's really unique to not have a single competitor To be truly alone." Joining me for episode #155 is Melissa Snover, the founder of Nouris3d, a maker of 3D printed personalised vitamin supplements. Now while the idea of 3D-printed food may seem in the realms of science fiction for some, the technology is very much present and already being used. Presently the tech is limited and relatively expensive. Using something called extrusion current 3D printers can only handle paste or puree ingredients like chocolate. However, technology is starting to gain traction with users understanding how it can meet the changing needs of customers. One company identifying a need for the technology is Nourish3d which has developed a system to make personalised vitamin supplements customised to the users requirements. Melissa says it combines customisation, convenience and new technology all in one hit. The sim os for people to get a faster track on optimising their health and achieving their goals. Previous to this Melissa founded the Magic Candy Factory which enabled people to 3D print their own sweets in near limitless designs which you may have seen on Dragon's Den back in January this year. This week I've announced another amazing speaker for this year's Entrepreneur Summit 2019 in Bournemouth - the youngest ever finalist on BBC TV's The Apprentice, Camilla Ainsworth. Since appearing on Lord Alan Sugar's show she has launched her own gourmet nut milk brand, Mylk Plus. Click the link above to join for a star-studded day-long event with Dragon's Den Star Piers Linney, Lush Founder Rowena Bird and Grenade founders Alan & Juliet Barratt. Plus you've still got time to enter our August contest to win tickets by simply leaving a review, screen-shorting it and emailing alex@screwitjustdoit.org and I'll pick two winners. You'll get to hang out with me and my team for the day, meet the speakers, and we'll even take you out for some food and maybe shoot some content together. No time to dive into this fascinating chat with Mel, Let's StartUp!
"I met Steve Hindy and he was the owner of Brooklyn Brewery. The first time I'm at a brewery. I thought "This is cool, they're making a lager, but it's not boring and it's beautifully packaged." I came back and said that's what I want to do. So I then built a brewery in the basement of the pub out of clapped out this and that. We went from brewing one day a week to brewing seven days a week. I was never going to be the best publican in the world. It was like an idea that just started snowballing, and rolling, and it felt right and it felt good. Even though it was a massive gamble. I've had dark days, but I've never thought of failure. I've never thought about the repercussion of things. I've learnt a lot from mistakes though. We've made plenty of them." Welcome to Episode #153 with Camden Town Brewery founder, Jasper Cuppaidge. Famous for their Hells lager, they shook up the beer industry nearly ten years ago in 2010, and very much heralded the start of the UK's beer revolution. I had an absolutely awesome day at the Camden Town Brewery, meeting Jasper, given a tour of the brewery in a bright orange smurfsuit and wellies, before finishing off by pulling my own beers from behind their bar. And the legends at Camden's even followed up by sending me a case of Stawberry Hells lager. An all-round great experience, they clearly already worked out the way to my heart. Thanks to Hazel Russel for her review of the show, and a reminder that I'm running a contest throughout August to pick two lucky winners to join us at this year's Entrepreneur Summit on October 17th I Bournemouth. Just go to Apple Podcasts, click 'Write a review', screenshot and email alex@screwitjustdoit.org with your screenshot. Full details of this year's line-up, with two confirmed speakers still to be announced are here & on Eventbrite. As I said, an amazing day out at Camden's Brewery, meeting Jasper Cuppaidge, a laid-back Aussie who missed his flight back to Oz in the 90's to remain in London collection glasses in a pub. Ten years later he bought a Hampstead pub and reopened it as The Horseshoe. He brewed his first batch of beer here as a birthday present for his mother. The beer proved successful with the pub's customers and he began to sell it. Jasper began to pursue a full-time business brewing lager and by spring 2010 Camden Town Brewery officially started brewing after renting five victorian rail arches underneath Kentish Town Station in London. Jasper & I talk about: Exit strategies & the sale to AB Inbev for £85 Million Risk Taking - Failure & Opportunity Experiences - Creating & Adding to them Innovation & Inspiration - Vertical Gardens & Strawberry Hells And that's exactly where we pick up the conversation.. Let's StartUp!

In this episode, we talk with Tracy Timm about taking the leap to start your own company or transform your career into something amazing. She's taken the leap herself and shares her journey from recognizing she was in the wrong career (no matter the perks) to starting her own coaching and speaking company. Another great speaker from Erin Smith's Entrepreneur Summit earlier this year, Tracy and I got to catch up after and discuss the mindset it takes to turn your world upside down and go from corporate employee to running your own business.
The Power of Gratitude and How to Build a Business Around Your Book My guest on the show today is a nationally recognized speaker, a successful author, entrepreneur, master coach…where does it end?! But those are what he does. What you'll quickly become impressed with while watching this video is who Rich Cavaness is as a person. The giving nature that is at Rich's core comes out in every interaction I've ever had with him. Being truly interested in the person you're speaking to is an amazing quality to find in someone. Rich exudes this quality. Thanks to Scott Schilling for first introducing us and Erin Smith for her Entrepreneur Summit, where Rich and I got to really connect over several days. In this interview Rich and I talk about: The importance of working on who you are as a person before you can ever tackle building a business. Not only his process of writing a book that we can use ourselves but how to build a business around your book.
My amazing guest on the show today, Lea Ellermeier is a successful serial entrepreneur as well as a great speaker and author. I had the good fortune to see Lea speak at Erin Smith's Entrepreneur Summit recently. Her entrepreneurial journey and track record at her five startups was enough for me to want to share her story with you. But even more was our talk around the emotional toll being an entrepreneur can have on you and how she is working to further the conversation around this. (Thank you, Nancy J. Hong, for the introduction.) Lea had a very scary wake-up call that brought this all to the forefront of her own life. She couldn't ignore this part of being an entrepreneur anymore. We dig into the business side of her endeavors here, but we also get into how critical it is an entrepreneur to have that outlet and sounding board to get you through the low point

Our episode this week is LIVE from the Charlotte Student Entrepreneur Summit, organized by our very own Caitlin Sellers Castevens. We chat with one of the presenters from Dupp & Swat, Davita Galloway.
As entrepreneurs, you may hear a lot of chatter about being able to find the right talent to hire and keep them. And as frustrating as it can be, we are in a place where hiring the right talent actually is possible. However, we can no longer rely on the traditional ways companies have hired and built up talent. We must understand our company's greater purpose and make sure that those who we hire align with that. In this podcast, we talk about how things have changed, but we also talk about how you can still hire the talent that will help you scale and grow your business. In addition, we cover what you can do to ensure they stay! Want to join us for this year's Entrepreneur Summit?! Grab your tickets now at www.ESummitEvents.com and use the code GUEST for 20% off!

A couple of weeks ago we profiled Health:Further Chief Medical Development Officer Mario Ramirez's career and how his experiences brought him to his current role as a clinician entrepreneur. This week we spoke with Greg Goodman, another clinician entrepreneur and founder of the Physician Entrepreneur Summit (PES), about why he took an unconventional path to his medical career and how he hopes to help other clinicians get into healthcare innovation.
I first had the privilege of hearing Charles Horton speak at Erin Smith's Entrepreneur Summit. I'm so glad I continued to cross paths with this man through other friends and his awesome monthly event, The Boardroom. As a business leader and investor, Charles runs a multi-million dollar personal finance business, the foundation of which he began when he was 15 years old with a check-cashing business that soon became a check verification company. That company became SmartCheck, the 8th largest check verification company in the U.S. Charles has since gone on to invest in and start numerous other successful businesses. But that just scratches the surface of what he does and the lives he impacts. From running his Shark Tank-like monthly Boardroom event to Firewalking and walking with lions, we cover an incredible amount of Charles' amazing story in this interview.

Today we learn about both the pain and the stress of putting on a live event. And why it's worth every bit of it. Welcome to episode 10 of The Jason Croft Show. Erin Smith is on the show today. She is an entrepreneurial force of nature. Erin's a Business Strategist, a Speaker, a Best Selling Author, and a Podcaster. And since she didn't have enough going on, last year she decided to host her first live event: Entrepreneur Summit. I've been in the live event world for years now. Let me tell you - it is a massive undertaking. And Erin pulled it off wonderfully. I was lucky enough to attend and benefit from all of the incredible speakers on the stage that day. I made sure I caught up with her afterward to get her insights into what it really takes to bring an event like this t
At the Entrepreneur Summit, our focus is on growth, and there’s no way better and faster way to scale, than to build teams. However, it’s not just about hiring one person at a time, and hoping everyone works together. It’s about making the right choices with each person you bring on, and then making sure your team is working together, not individually towards a goal. ResultMaps.com‘s Scott Levy joins us on this podcast to talk about how to build not just teams, but true cohesive teams. In this episode we talk: Core rules you use when hiring to make sure you’re on the path for a great team Hiring off company needs vs. personality first How to get everyone to get along Keeping your team focused on the greater mission, yet giving them room to do their own thing Handling non-team players Plus more! When I first met Rick and Tom with GMG Savings, I was honestly shocked as a business owner. My first response was where were you eight years ago when I started hiring for my business? My second question was how do more people not know about you? GMG Savings has a great concept where they help you in your business in various different ways, and the beautiful part is that they don't get paid unless they can find a way to save you money. No, this isn't all too good to be true. Between hidden fees we often miss along with government programs that as business owners, we just don't have time to keep up with, there are various ways we can pocket a lot more money in our business. I love this topic because it's one that is crucial to the success and growth of any company. We have to hire, and we have to learn how to scale. However, if it's done incorrectly, it can be detrimental to our business. When done right, it can lead to profits and more enjoyment in your business. Knox Keith has built teams for some of today's largest brands and currently works for Merge Forward and helps companies with their digital and social media strategy. To do that, he needs to build a team of contractors to help him execute. Knox gives some great tips and tricks in this podcast as we discuss just some of the following: - How to hire correctly so you can help determine your new recruits will be a great fit for the team as a whole. - How to set up your business so when you're bringing on new people they can quickly get up to speed on your process and what needs to be done. - How to help keep the right culture, even on a team of contractors.
