Imposter syndrome—that nagging feeling that you're not good enough, that one day you'll be “found out,” that you're faking it—is one of the most common internal struggles leaders face. And yet, no one really talks about how to use it. In this episode of Reflect Forward, I sit down with executive coach, speaker, and author Jen Coken to reframe imposter syndrome as a powerful signpost: you're growing, stretching, and stepping into bigger arenas. Instead of running from it or trying to eliminate it, Jen shows us how to lean into it, understand where it comes from, and even transform it into fuel for confident, authentic leadership. Her book, Make Imposter Syndrome Your Superpower, is filled with deeply personal stories, research-backed insight, and practical strategies. During our conversation, we both open up about our own “why me?” moments, including how our childhoods shaped our self-doubt, and how mindfulness, self-inquiry, and storytelling help us lead through it. We also talk about: • Where imposter syndrome really comes from (hint: it's usually before age 12) • How the brain creates protective patterns that show up in moments of high pressure • The role of mindfulness and micro-moments of stillness in rewiring self-doubt • The power of pause, presence, and play to disrupt those old stories • What it means to lead from your heart—even when it feels vulnerable This is a raw, honest, and empowering conversation that I know will resonate with so many of you navigating self-doubt while leading in uncertain times. Favorite Quotes from the Episode “You can have ‘why me' over for a drink, but don't let it sleep in your bed—because you'll want to chew your arm off in the morning.” — Jen Coken “Your suffering lies in your stories. Change the story, and you change your experience.” — Jen Coken Key Takeaways: How to Make Imposter Syndrome Your Superpower 1. Recognize it's not you—it's your brain. Imposter syndrome is an amygdala hijack, not a reflection of your capabilities. Awareness is the first step. 2. Trace it back. Most imposter patterns begin with childhood experiences that shaped our beliefs about worthiness and safety. Get curious, not judgmental. 3. Pause and reflect. Use mindfulness to create space between the feeling and your response. Micro-moments of stillness build long-term resilience. 4. Tell a better story. Reframe your narrative. When self-doubt creeps in, challenge it by telling yourself three more empowering stories about what could happen. 5. Visualize success—and feel it. Don't just see yourself succeeding, embody the feeling of confidence. Your nervous system believes what you feel. If you're ready to stop letting self-doubt call the shots and start owning your brilliance, this episode will help you reframe imposter syndrome as the growth companion it truly is. With all the changes going on in the real estate industry, how can you embrace them and become an effective leader? In this episode, I chat with three leading ladies, Jaynie Atanasoff, Jan Hayse, and Katie Stephans, as they share their stories and how they are embracing these changes. Grab your cafecito and join us to get a fresh perspective on what it means to lead at the highest level. Meet The Leaders Jaynie Atanasoff, Vice President, Shared Success Center, HomeServices of America, jaynieatanasoff@homeservices.com Jan Hayse, President, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Beach Properties of Florida, jan@bpfla.com Katie Stephans, Vice President, Enterprise Applications, HomeServices of America, KatieStephans@homeservices.com Becoming Real Estate Leaders Katie joined the real estate world during one of the worst years, which was in 2008. But thanks to her technology background, she was able to bring fresh ideas into the industry to help businesses grow during that time. Jaynie comes from an HR background, which helped her transition into the real estate industry effectively with a customer service mindset. Also, realizing how important feedback is during change helped her excel in her transition into her new role. Jan joined the real estate industry in 2011 after leaving the banking industry and wanting a professional career that would work around her kids' schedule at that time. Always up for a challenge and networking with others, she was able to get outside her comfort zone to become a real estate agent. Embracing Adversity Jaynie shares her experience of when her mother developed dementia and how it helped her embrace a new perspective of change. Things happened unexpectedly, and there's nothing you can do about it besides adapting and keeping going. Reflecting on this experience allowed her to learn how to handle tough situations professionally and get through them. Katie shares another personal experience of her struggles with infertility. You expect it would be easy to enter motherhood, but for her, it was a ten-year struggle. This showed her you always have to put one foot forward and never give up, no matter how challenging the situation is. Embracing AI technology has not always been easy for Jan, and it was even harder having to help train her team. However, by surrounding herself with other leaders, she was able to embrace the change and help her team out. Creating Space for Life One of the hardest challenges every woman faces, no matter what industry they're in, is balancing work and personal life, especially when working from home. If you're a Type A person, like Katie, she shares how important it is to have boundaries when it comes to spending time with family and friends. Jan shares why a morning routine can help create that “me time” that every woman needs before starting her day. It helps put you in the right mindset to tackle the work tasks at hand. Jaynie likes to be mindful of what is going on at the moment. Also, when work is done, she completely turns the computer off to enjoy fun activities like golf, being with friends, and bowling. Favorite Quotes and Book Recommendations Jan: Favorite Podcast is Feel Better Live More hosted by Dr. Rangan Chatterjee. Her favorite books are Outwitting the Devil and The Wealth Blueprint by Napoleon Hill. Favorite quote “Wherever you go, there you are.” Janie: Favorite audiobooks are Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins and The Women by Kristin Hannah. Her favorite quote is “She believed she could, so she did.” Katie: Favorite quote “just progress over perfection.” She shares how by showing up means you're moving forward toward your goals no matter what is going on in your life. If you face Imposter Syndrome or feel people on your team might, this is a great episode to understand how to work through it to have you best and authentic self show up when needed.Top quotes:"Imposter syndrome is when individuals who are actually achieving, they're actually accomplishing, but they don't recognize that those achievements are due to themselves. And I started to put when someone sent me a nice email, or when someone gave a compliment, I had a folder that I would review if I was having a moment that, I wasn't feeling great, I'd review that, and it's helpful.""Think of the story that you're telling yourself, separate fact from emotion and going through that process. can actually be super helpful in moving past the feeling"Favorite Quote (from Jess Sims)" You're a masterpiece, but a work in progress at the same damn time"

This has given me more time to make content! As listed above on this episode, this is my first food recipe on this podcast. I dehydrate veggies often to get more greens in my diet. Have you(if your game) checked out your player stats for 2024 from any of these websites? Please let me know. Hey friends! Welcome back to the show. Today, we're continuing the health series with one of the most important topics: our overall health, our mood, and even how we show up in our relationships and our work. I'm talking about sleep. It is something so basic to our lives, but we don't give it the credit it really deserves. It is the easiest thing to sacrifice when life gets busy. I will tell you what you need to know, why it's important, and small habits that you can have in your life to feel a lot better. It is so tempting to push sleep aside. I'm here to tell you why sleep is nonnegotiable. Consider today your friendly reminder to give yourself permission to rest well so you can feel amazing. Sleep is a superpower, and today, we talk about why sleep is so important. Favorite Quotes: 01:13 - “Sleep is a superpower in this society. Sleep isn't just about feeling rested. It's actually the foundation for everything else.” 04:13 - “Sleep is like your emotional thermostat, and when you don't get enough of it, the thermostat goes haywire.” 05:48 - “The truth is when we sleep more, it helps us stay looking younger.” 21:06 - “I know it can be hard to prioritize sleep, but with everything else going on in life, it's one of the best investments you can make.” 21:15 - “When you sleep better, you live better.” Recommendations: Things I love and think you will too! Welcome back! Today, I want to do a deep dive into supplements. This is for our health series. Of course, there's no way I can't talk about supplements. I've been reading and studying the supplement world for a long time. My goal today is to give you a realistic look at supplements and what they can and can't do. I want to debunk the myth that we can get the majority of everything we need from our food alone. I have some really interesting data to support this. So whether you love them or hate them, this will be a fascinating episode for you. Favorite Quotes: 03:00 - “Even if you're eating really healthy, it is very difficult for you to eat enough food to get your minimum RDA levels of vitamins and minerals every day.” 04:01 - “Most important is a multivitamin. A multivitamin is like your daily safety net. It's gonna fill in the gaps where your diet will fall short.” 05:28 - “Another one that I'm obsessed with and I think everyone should take as a supplement is magnesium. Magnesium is a powerhouse. I love it because magnesium is involved in over 300 processes in your body.” 18:13 - “Multivitamins help us feel better in the time that we have to live.” 21:48 - “However many years the Lord has given us, we want to feel good. We want to live them abundantly. We want to thrive. We don't just want to limp through life and that takes educating ourselves. It takes empowering ourselves.” Recommendations: This week I'm currently loving The Rose Code by Kate Quinn. It's historical fiction that dives into the lives of three women code breakers during WWII. If you're like me and haven't read it yet, you just may love it. I know what great song you'll love, Everything Has Breath by Bryan and Katie Torwalt and Jesus Culture. It's upbeat. The Potter Discussion: Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts and the Wizarding World Fandom
Send us a textIn this episode, we discuss some of my least favorite quotes. Enjoy!Topics/Summary:· 2:00 “There is no good and evil, only power, and those too weak to seek it.” How Voldemort is this one, huh? I can appreciate this quote as the very least. It is well written and reflects the values that Voldemort has. However, he is wrong. If this quote was instead something like: “In the world, there is more than good and evil. There is power, and those too weak to seek it” it might have rung true. Unfortunately Voldemort disregards the very ideas of good and evil as false.· 11:32 “If it's true, what you say, and he has the Elder Wand, you really don't stand a chance.” This quote is far from false. That is not the reason why it is among my least favorite. In fact, I would go as far as to say that Ollivander is completely right. He just shouldn't have told Harry that the fight is pointless before it even begins.· 17:50 “He's not back!” Fudge is ignorant. He doesn't want to believe that Voldemort is back, and even if he knows that he is, he insists on continuing to say that Voldemort is far from returned. If Fudge had just accepted it and began action earlier, it may have been much easier to win.· 21:55 “He's not James, Sirius.” I didn't think Mrs. Weasley would get on this list, but here we are. Sirius and Mrs. Weasley are arguing about Harry's involvement in the Order of the Phoenix, when she drops this on Sirius. She shouldn't feel the need to go this low.· 27:03 “I don't think you're a waste of space.” Dudley finally makes this realization after 17 years of living with his cousin. This is such a heart-wrenching quote and probably the nicest thing Dudley has ever said in his life, but it comes at the worst time. It is a shame that the very moment they have to say goodbye is the moment they finally reach somewhat good terms. Moments after this quote, the Dursleys leave and they never see Harry again.Having anything you want to hear or say? Click here for a voice submission or here for text. Sharon McMahon, America's favorite government teacher and bestselling author of "The Small and the Mighty." shares how she went from a classroom government teacher to a social media success with over a million followers on Instagram. Once you hear this episode you will understand why Shaon's nonpartisan videos on the electoral college and other political processes captured the hearts and attention of her followers and mass media. You may not know that there is currently a lack of standardized civic education across the United States. Each state decides how much time to allocate within their schools to teach about US Government and Civics. Yes, read that again and stop for a minute to consider the consequences of inconsistent and insufficient government education for American students. If students are not taught how to make change locally, statewide or nationally, or that their vote and participation matters, perhaps that explains a lot including why so many of us complain that the system is not representing us? We talk about Sharon's brilliant book, "The Small and the Mighty," which profiles twelve unsung American heroes who made extraordinary impacts on history. One of the heroes is Clara Brown, an enslaved woman who became a pioneer in Colorado, through sacrifice, faith and decades of hard work. We also discuss the current election and why the majority of Americans feel they are not represented by either candidate. Sharon offers suggestions for electoral reforms and a multi-party system that would drastically change election outcomes. Sharon recommends FairVote, an organization working to improve election systems at the state level. Hey friend! This week, I want to share why I think you need a hobby. I'll make my case and I'll dive into some truths about hobbies backed by research and offer a few ideas to help you discover the perfect one for you. I learned that we need a hobby to round out our lives, give us some joy, and something to lose ourselves in. Hobbies are more than just fun; they're crucial for our well-being. They help us destress, heal from burnout, and boost our mood. And research backs this up! Hobbies can lower your stress, improve your mood, and even decrease your heart rate. What a win, right? Here's the good news: hobbies don't require a big time commitment or a ton of upkeep. You can carve out just five minutes a week to do something you love. So, let's embrace the joy of hobbies and find that spark that lights us up! Recommendations: This week I share two things I love with you. The first is Dashing Diva Nail Strips in Pale Blush. You put these on your nails and use an LED light to harden them. Don't forget to put sunblock on your fingers and hands. You don't want to age your hands when you do your nails. The book I'm loving this week is from Robert Iger, The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company. It is phenomenal. I fell in love with it, the stories, the hard times, and the leadership lessons. If you're looking for a great memoir, a great book on leadership, this book is where it's at. Favorite Quotes: 01:32 - “We need a hobby to round out our lives, give us some joy, give us something to lose ourselves in. Hobbies help us de-stress and heal from burnout.” 04:24 - “Research shows that hobbies will reduce stress and boost mood.” 05:41 - “You want to choose a hobby that someone else can join in on, too. That is just going to give you that friendship boost, so you are getting all the social benefits of your hobby.” 10:08 - “Doing something we enjoy lets us relax and be creative, which is so good for our mental and emotional health. Having a hobby will give you a break from the stress and daily grind. It will give you that much needed sense of accomplishment, making life happier and more balanced.” Things I love and think you will too: Dashing Diva Nail Strips The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company Create a Course Remaining You While Raising Them Alli on YouTube Little Things StudioLittle Things Studio is a woman-owned small business bringing daily reminders of beauty and truth to your home and life. Let's talk about how I got my life together! This may sound like a crazy thing to talk about because I have been sharing about strategies to get your life back together in the books I have written for the last ten years, all six years of this podcast, and throughout my career of coaching. But it's true! I want to tell you a story about a time when I was the most burnt out, fried to a crisp and didn't know what to do next. I talk about this in my book Remaining You While Raising Them. In January 2021, My husband and two of my boys were not doing well. One day while praying, I asked God what to do, and in that moment, He spoke so clearly to my spirit and I knew He was saying it was time to get help. In this episode I share how I got my excitement for life back, how I dealt with and processed my emotions, and healed from burnout. Some of the great things you'll learn in this episode - The timing for getting the help we need. Having a business coach grows your business. Pride and fear keep us from getting the help we need. Looking back and celebrating your progress. I would love to hear from you! DM me on Instagram and tell me how you started taking action. I want to know the progress you're making so I can cheer you on. Instagram: instagram.com/alliworthington Favorite Quotes: 02:58 - “I had forgotten the one truth that you will always go further faster in your business with a business coach no matter how good you are on your own. Everybody needs an accountability and a strategy partner.” 03:53 - “The perfect time never comes. If we wait until we feel it's the right time to get the help we need, we will never do anything. We'll be sitting around waiting until we feel right forever.” 08:32 - “So, if you've been thinking about getting a coach but you worry about the expense, I want to tell you that you will make so much more money with a coach than without a coach. It is the best business expense you will ever have.” 09:31 - “The truth is we need to identify what our best use of time is.” 11:46 - “Pride and fear keep us from obeying the call that God has for us to get some help.” 12:44 - “Remember, an investment in you benefits everyone around you.” Recommendations Sharing one beauty item - IT Cosmetics Foundation in SPF 50, is really quite amazing. Get it with sunscreen because sunscreen is everything. Put it on with a beauty blender and it's going to look lovely. Bye Bye foundation is where it's at for a little extra coverage. And sharing one food/health item that I love - Allegro green tea. It's decaf so it won't pull all the hydration out of your body. It's a powerhouse! It's full of antioxidants, it's anti-inflammatory, it increases blood flow, boosts brain function, and so many other good things. It tastes really good and I love it. Did you know there's a secret formula for making your relationships happier and stronger? Yes, it's true! There is a secret formula to happy relationships. Today, I'm going to teach you how to apply this magic ratio in your life with your kids, your husband, your friends, and even at work. Dr. John Gottman, the foremost relationship expert, discovered in his research, that in the happiest, healthiest relationships there are five positive interactions for every one interaction. Dr. Gottman's research shows that couples that maintain this positive ratio are much more likely to stay together and be happy. Conflict is not in and of itself a bad thing. It just means you're living in the world. But when negativity or conflict arises you want to pile on the positives. In my book Remaining You While Raising Them I talk about the magic ratio and piling on the positives, big and little. In the book I also talk about friendships. Friendships thrive on positivity. When they need you, be there for them, make some fun plans to hang out with them. These interactions will strengthen your bond. For our kids it's as simple as playing their game, reading a bedtime story, or watching a movie with them. Whether they're five or twenty-five, pile on the positives so that when negativity comes, it balances out. Our husbands and boyfriends need the positives too. It can be something as easy as sending a really fun text in the middle of the day, planning a surprise date, or getting his favorite candy. Make a point to do something nice for him which is investing in your marriage account. At work, continually recognizing small achievements of team members as often as possible. Not only will this boost morale but it also increases productivity. When you have to have a tough conversation, you've invested in that person, so you're balancing out the five to one ratio. Balancing out with the five to one ratio helps keep relationships healthier and helps them thrive. Favorite Quotes: 00:53 - “Dr. John Gottman, the foremost relationship expert, discovered through his research that in the healthiest, happiest relationships, there are five positive interactions for every one negative interaction. This doesn't mean we ignore the negative, but we balance it with more good moments.” 6:52 - “Focusing on creating more positive interactions, we keep our relationships healthier and help them thrive.” 7:11 - “Giving ourselves grace is so important here. Remember, we don't have to be perfect. We just need to be present and willing to create those positive moments.” 11:02 - “Another great way to foster positive interactions is to celebrate successes, big and small. Whether it's completing a project on time or someone going above and beyond, acknowledging these moments will boost morale and encourage a positive environment.” 11:46 - “Learning the five to one ratio and piling on the positives will help you continue to build your optimism, your joy and your peace everyday. Piling on the positives helps you cultivate kindness in all your interactions. You do more stuff for others that genuinely makes a difference in their lives.” Links to Great Things: Create a Course Remaining You While Raising Them Alli on YouTube Little Things StudioLittle Things Studio is a woman-owned small business bringing daily reminders of beauty and truth to your home and life. How much time each day do you spend thinking about your feelings? Not thinking about what you're feeling…but thinking about what lessons might be waiting underneath to be unwrapped? Every emotion we experience is a gift, and it deserves acknowledgment. The challenge is to know when we're ruminating on negativity, permit ourselves to feel it, and then…surrender and let it go. Today on The Bridge to FulfillmentⓇ, Blake explains why feeding the negative allows the darkness to outweigh the light. In order to transform emotions into lessons, we have to make sure we don't get stuck in a cycle of rumination. In this episode, you'll hear a parable that will help you learn to identify which emotional wolf you're feeding through the thoughts you're giving space to. You'll learn how to shift your perspective by acknowledging the challenges you're experiencing, but instead of focusing on them, choosing to feed the things that give you life. What You'll Learn: A Cherokee parable about life (0:47) What to know about the thoughts you let in (2:48) The truth about pushing away negative thoughts (4:08) Allowing space to acknowledge your emotions (5:48) What to do when you're feeling discontent (8:36) Favorite Quotes: What you think about and what you focus on are perhaps the most important things on a day-to-day basis. When we deny the dark wolf or the negative, we actually create more [negativity]. We can't avoid pain, anger, sorrow, or grief. But we can choose how we deal with it. We can choose to acknowledge how we feel and acknowledge our humanity. Why do I feel this way? What is it teaching me? How can I be grateful for the feeling of discontent and the lesson and then surrender that and move back into a place of empowerment, ownership, and movement in the right direction?
