Das Niedliche, verkörpert durch den Hund Lulu und den etwas täppischen Channing Tatum, hat jedoch eine ideologische Funktion und fast scheint es, als sei der Film erst vor wenigen Wochen entstanden, denn bemerkenswerterweise können wir hier bereits die Allianz zwischen den Linksliberalen und dem Militär erleben. So ist es ein esoterisches Hippie-Ehepaar, das Lulu und dem Soldaten hilft und zugleich Bewunderung für das soldatische Leben aufbringt. Auch andere, eher nicht mit dem US-Militär auf allzu gutem Fuße stehende Figuren tauchen auf – wie ein muslimischer Staatsanwalt oder lateinamerikanische Feldarbeiter. Hollywood vollzieht mit diesem Feel-Good-Movie eine gewisse Kehrwende, positionierte man sich mit Filmen wie „Das Tal von Elah“ oder dem letzten „Rambo“-Teil kritisch zum Militär und zu den westlichen Interventionen der vergangenen 20 Jahre. This movie is some where between a Rugrats adventure and what would happen if a group of stunt doubles found a camera and enough money for ONE actual actor. Über Leichen...brauchen wir diese Woche nicht zu gehen, um Christian Bale als Dick Cheney in Vice - Der zweite Mann zu bewundern, einen Klos im Hals behalten wir aber trotzdem. Auch der im Gegensatz zur Erwartung nach Titel und Opener sehr stille Sound of Metal ist eher kein Feel-Good-Movie und trotzdem empfehlenwert. Die zweite Staffel von Hjem til Jul ist zwar auch weniger leichtfüßig als die letztjährige, jedoch entlässt sie uns nach dem einabendlichen Binge mit einem warmen Weihnachtsgefühl. Wem statt wohliger Wärme eher nach lodernden Flammen des Ärgers dürstet, dem sei das unsäglich beschissene Machwerk Katharina von Alexandrien ans Herz gelegt, das nicht zuletzt dank Peter O'Toole gute Chancen in den diesjährigen Negativhitlisten haben wird, so wir diese aufstellen werden.

It took Mari and Jeff two full weeks to be emotionally ready for a quarantined Schindler's List viewing... and they finally did it. On this week's episode, they discuss some fun things like Middleditch & Schwartz, Nicole Byer, and Netflix's dumb affinity for dating shows, but then they dive deep (almost too emotionally deep for Mari...) into the 1993 Best Picture Winner. They discuss its general reception, the cultural impact of the film, feedback from the Jewish community, the girl in the red coat, and everything in between. Dreiundzwanzig Jahre sind die Ereignisse her und doch aktueller denn je: 1992 kam es in Rostock-Lichtenhagen zu Anschlägen auf ein Asylbewerberheim. Der Film „Wir sind jung. Wir sind stark.“ läuft seit vergangener Woche in den Kinos und beschreibt, wie es zu diesen grausamen Taten kommen konnte. Regisseur Burhan Qurbani hat vor fünf Jahren mit der Recherche begonnen. Damals konnte er nicht ahnen, dass das Thema „Fremdenfeindlichkeit in Deutschland“ durch den NSU und die Pegida-Bewegung so an Brisanz gewinnen würde. Im Rahmen seiner Kinotour stellte Qurbani den Film im Kino am Raschplatz vor. Nach einer anschließenden Diskussion nahm sich der Regisseur Zeit für die Fragen unseres Redakteurs Laurenz. „Wir sind jung.
