Understand the Bible? Pastor Melissa Scott, Ph.D.

Teaching on the trilogy of parables in Luke 15, focusing on the  Parable of The Father.  The ones that listened to Jesus tell these parables were considered the worst of the sinners.  We are all prodigals having wasted the inheritance given to us - our time, money, and faith opportunities.  All of us at some point have squandered that stewardship, but it's never too late to start over with God.  All it takes is the right attitude of facing ourselves and turning back to the Father's house.  God will give you another chance to start over. 169: Apple's iPhone Air Is in Trouble

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss the latest rumors about the iPhone Air not selling as well as Apple hoped. There have been many recent reports suggesting the ‌iPhone Air‌ has failed to catch on with consumers, with Apple moving to cut production due to lower-than-expected sales. The first warning sign was the ready availability of the ‌iPhone Air‌ at launch, suggesting lower than expected demand. Last week, Japan's Mizuho Securities said that Apple would reduce iPhone Air production by at least one million units because of underwhelming sales performance. Nikkei then reported that Apple planned to cut production significantly almost to "end-of-production levels." KeyBanc Capital Markets said that there is "virtually no demand" for the ‌iPhone Air‌ and that Apple would "drastically" cut production as a result. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo then clarified that suppliers have been asked to reduce capacity by more than 80% between now and the first quarter of 2026, and some components with longer lead times will be discontinued by the end of 2025. Samsung is apparently seeing a similar response to its super thin ‌iPhone Air‌ rival, the Galaxy S25 Edge. Reports indicate that Samsung canceled a next-generation model after disappointing sales. According to Kuo, the ‌iPhone Air‌'s poor performance suggests that the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro models already "cover the majority of high-end user demand," so there is little room for new market segments. All of the other new iPhones are all believed to be selling better than expected, with Apple increasing up production of these models. Apple apparently planned three more ‌iPhone Air‌ generations, but that could now change in light of real-world sales data. We could get yet another new iPhone form factor as soon as 2026, with rumors suggesting that Apple will debut a foldable model alongside the iPhone 18 lineup.

SEASON 2 - EPISODE 164 - 28 YEARS LATER - with Anthony Dod Mantle In this special episode of the Team Deakins Podcast, cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle (Season 1, Episode 68) returns to discuss his work on 28 YEARS LATER. The film was shot extensively using modified iPhones, and Anthony shares his early conversations with director Danny Boyle about the film's intended rural setting that informed their decision to commit to using the devices. Anthony later explains how he jailbroke the iPhone's camera system with the help of tech advisors and employees at Apple, and we discuss how the limitations of the phone forced Anthony to adjust the amount of light he used while filming. We also learn how the bar cam system actually works, and Anthony details the type of VFX work done throughout the film. We later investigate why the sequel was shot with an Alexa, and Anthony describes the elaborate build of the Bone Temple location featured prominently in both films. - Recommended Viewing: 28 YEARS LATER - This episode is sponsored by Sandstorm & Aputure

Conversations on Careers and Professional Life

The AIM Framework: The Compass for Every Communication” Welcome to Conversations on Careers and Professional Life, on this series, I'm going to turn lessons from my MBA course, Professional Communication into practical insights you can use every day. I'm Gregory Heller, and today we're diving into one of the simplest—but most powerful—tools in communication, professional or otherwise: the AIM Framework, outlined by Lynn Russell and Mary Munter. AIM stands for Audience, Intent, and Message. It's a framework I teach in the very first session of my Professional Communication course, and it's one that I come back to again and again—because it works in every context: from team meetings to emails, from case competitions to C-suite presentations. Let's start with the “A”—Audience. Before you draft a slide, write an email, or step into a meeting, ask yourself: Who am I communicating with? What do they already know? What do they care about? What do they need to hear—not what do I need to say? As communicators, it's tempting to start with our own perspective: what we want to share, the details we think are important. But effective communication begins with empathy. When I teach this to my MBA students, I often remind them: if you're presenting to your project sponsor, that's one audience. But at your final presentation, you might have ten new people in the room—the sponsor's boss, colleagues, maybe other stakeholders. You need to know who those people are and what matters to them. At work, the same principle applies. A CFO and a Head of Marketing might look at the same data and see completely different stories. If you haven't thought about your audience, you're leaving understanding—and influence—up to chance. So before you even open PowerPoint or start writing, take five minutes to analyze your audience. Who are they? What's their level of expertise? What are they motivated by? And how do they prefer to receive information—visually, verbally, through numbers, through stories? That's the first step: know your audience. Next is “I”—Intent. Intent is your purpose. It's your North Star. What do you want your audience to do, say, or think after you communicate? It sounds simple, but this is where so many messages go off course. If you don't know your intent, you can't design your message. Do you want approval? Understanding? Action? Alignment? Think of intent as the destination for your message. You can't land the plane if you don't know where the runway is. When I talk with students about this, I often use an example: Imagine your boss calls you at 5:30 in the morning about a project problem. You're half-awake and you start talking before you've thought through what you want to say. That's when our thinking outruns our speaking—and that's when we say things we wish we hadn't. Intent brings focus. Before responding, pause. Take a breath. Ask yourself: What outcome am I trying to achieve here? The most confident communicators don't speak first—they think first. So that's step two: be intentional about your purpose. Finally, the “M”—Message. Only after you understand your audience and your intent can you craft the right message. Too often, we do this backwards. We start by writing the email, designing the slide deck, or outlining the talk—and then try to retrofit it to the audience. But when you've done the first two steps, your message becomes sharper and simpler. You know what to include—and, just as importantly, what to leave out. This is where clarity, concision, and structure come in. Every message should have a clear beginning, middle, and end. As I tell my students, “If you can't say what you're trying to say in one iPhone screen of text, it's probably too long.” And remember the ABCs of communication: Active, Brief, and Clear. Active—use direct, strong language. Brief—say only what's necessary. Clear—make sure there's no ambiguity about your point. The message isn't just what you say, it's also how you say it: the tone, the channel, the timing, even the visuals you use to reinforce your point. Sometimes the best message is a phone call instead of a Slack message. Sometimes it's a short memo instead of a slide deck. The medium is part of the message. So that's the AIM framework: Audience, Intent, Message. It's deceptively simple—but that's its power. When you apply AIM before every important communication, you'll find that your writing becomes tighter, your presentations more persuasive, and your meetings more productive. You'll waste less time explaining and more time connecting. So next time you sit down to prepare a talk, an email, or a meeting agenda—stop and ask yourself three questions: Who am I talking to? Why am I talking to them? And what's the clearest way to get them to act? That's AIM in action—and it's the foundation of every great communicator.

Jesus forgave sins, communed with sinners, and went in to abide with the tax collector, and the Pharisees were offended. Jesus met the people right where they were. The sinful woman was not rebuked for touching and reaching, her sins were forgiven. The Brief: How our recent past should prepare us for the age of AI

In this issue of The Brief, we're reflecting on what we learned about the past and future of design from our conversation with Paola Antonelli (The Museum of Modern Art), Mark Wilson (Fast Company), Kate Aronowitz (GV), Mike Davidson (Microsoft), and Meaghan Choi (Anthropic). Looking back at 30 years of design by Eli Woolery Roughly thirty years ago, I was an undergrad, sitting in our dorm's computer cluster —this was before the days when most students had laptops. I ran into something I hadn't seen before. It was called Netscape Navigator, and it was one of the first commercial internet browsers (which our very first guest on Design Better, Irene Au, helped design). I clicked on one of the buttons (probably, “What's Cool”), and along with a nifty loading animation, the browser took me down some early internet rabbit hole. I don't remember where exactly I ended up, but I do remember being blown away by the experience. As a computer nerd kid in the 80's, I had spent plenty of time with bulletin board systems (BBS's) and things like America Online, which we could access through a dial-up modem from home. But this was very different. It was fast—compared to what I was used to—and it felt like I could almost instantaneously access content from all around the world (even though the content online at the time was a miniscule fraction of what it is today). I had entered school to study product design, but this was for products in the physical world…digital product design didn't exist as we know it today. The first use of the phrase “User Experience” in a job title was Don Norman's role a a User Experience Architect at Apple in the mid-90s. Browsers like Netscape Navigator, and then the introduction of the iPhone in 2007, opened up a new world of opportunities and challenges for the field of design. In our conversation with Paola and Mark, we talked about four: the democratization paradox, design's loss of innocence, the fragmentation of the design profession, and the shift from tangible to intangible design. The Democratization Paradox “We democratized all the tools and we democratized none of the platforms. And that gap is just in a nutshell, kind of what's broken about the individual's ability to communicate.”—Mark Wilson, Fast Company While design tools and capabilities have been democratized (everyone can now access design software, create content, etc.), the platforms and systems remain highly centralized within a few large companies—Meta, Google, TikTok, etc. The early, messy days of the internet (Geocities, MySpace) have been largely tamed, which can make for better user experiences, but we also miss the wild creativity that came from having an infinite number of ways to express yourself online. Back then, your personal web page could be a nightmare of animated GIFs, visitor counts, and autoplay music—terrible for usability, but at least it was yours. Today, we're all posting in the same formats, and are subjected to the same algorithmic rules for engagement. The tools to create have never been more powerful or accessible, yet we're increasingly creating within narrower and narrower boundaries defined by a handful of tech giants. Understand the Bible? Pastor Melissa Scott, Ph.D.

When Christ was really born and what that birth should mean to us.  The 1st part of the message is a study of the courses of the priests to determine when John the Baptist was born, and ultimately to the time of Christ's birth. The 2nd half is focused on the “fall and rising again of many...”  We were chosen to be among those risen up by His coming and that is the best Christmas message we could ever receive.
