Joseph Curiale joins us to share about his long -standing experience in the music entertainment field as a Master Composer, Conductor, Arranger and Orchestrator. We meet at a unique time in his life when he's departing from his former body of work to start a new life outside the US. For those of us who are unfamiliar with what a Composer, Conductor, Arranger & Orchestrator does, he makes these distinctions very understandable. While his own works like his music on the CD "Awakening", “In The Sound”, I'n Autumn”, “The Music of Life” and “Dinkytown”, are rare and unforgettable, Joseph has also worked with so many Music Legends, that the list is confounding. If you would like to see the staggering list of talent he has worked with, Click the Link Below: https://www.josephcurialemusic.com/cv He's been a composer, arranger, orchestrator, conductor, or a collaborative songwriter in The London Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Check. Joseph has worked with The Boston Pops and performed with The Tonight Show, Frasier, The Emmy Awards, The Television Academy Hall of Fame and so many more! Joseph has also worked with Michael Jackson, Barry White, Tower of Power, Patti Austin, Gino Vanelli, Sami Davis Jr., Quincy Jones, Oprah Winfrey, Paul Williams, Earth Wind & Fire, The Spinners, Michelle Legrand, Marilyn & Alan Bergman, Anita Baker, Ricky Martin, Chaka Khan, Little Richard, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, etc… Nothing with Joseph Curiale is small. He participated in The Hollywood Bowl Celebration of Music and The Inauguration of several Presidents. In this interview, we whirl through Josephs' experience in the music business and dialogue into his most personal experiences and revelations, including, who has made profound contributions in his life and calling and who formed who he is as an instrument of musical expression and as a human being. On Vinyl Tap this week our look at the piano in rock and roll continues. Early rock piano players drew from Jazz, rhythm and blues and boogie-woogie for their inspiration.  As technology changed, so did musical tastes and the piano along with other keyboards became a huge part of progressive rock. And still a song just might need the versatility of 88 keys to make it sparkle. The playlist this week includes, Van Halen, Blue Rodeo, Spencer Davis Group, ELO, Gino Vanelli, The Doors and many more.

The latest edition of THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST is a special one as we sit down with DREAM THEATER singer James Labrie. In the discussion, James discusses his new solo album, "Beautiful Shade Of Grey", which arrives on May 20 via Inside Out Music. James Labrie's fourth solo effort sees him collaborating with guitarist/bassist/composer Paul Logue (EDEN's CURSE) as well as his son, Chance Labrie on drums, guitarist Marco Sfogl and keyboardist Christian “Chrism” Pulkkinen in a sonically stunning journey of beauty, loss and the human condition. A press release reads: 'Going beyond the thematic and personal elements, for James, ‘Beautiful Shade of Grey' presented an opportunity to capture the love and enthusiasm he feels for great songwriting through a vehicle that wasn't tied to the same rules and architypes of his other projects. Reflecting on artists that he's been drawn to over the years, ranging from JOURNEY, FOREIGNER and GINO VANELLI to CHEVELLE, BIG WRECK and PRINCE, the common thread that's kept him coming back to them was their eclectic, unpredictable output.' “All these artists had versality, and I think it's primarily because of this that they maintained my attention. They always, I believe, pushed themselves to ask, ‘what else can I do?'” James as well discusses DREAM THEATER's recent GRAMMY win for the song 'The Alien" off the band's latest album 'A View From The Top Of The World', expanding his creative wings and his current relationship with former DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy. Why, thank you for noticing how gritty and topical we've gotten lately. We feel it's our duty to both entertain AND educate. Therefore, we're gonna share part of the screenplay for the very first O3L After School Special: [Son is sitting on his bed, obviously listening to Episode 28 of O3L, upset that Uncle Gregg didn't pick Gino Vanelli's "Living Inside Myself". His father comes bursting into his room, clutching a Depeche Mode single. Or maybe even Dexys Midnight Runners, because kids are rebellious, after all.]  Dad: What is this?  Son: I don't know, it's not mine. Dad: Your mother found it in your closet. Son: One of the guys must have left... Dad: Tell me! Where did you get this? Who taught you how to listen to this stuff!? Son: YOU, OK?!?! I learned it from listening to YOU! [End scene} So, whaddya think?  The moral of the story: Teach your children well. Oh yeah, and listen to O3L.

My guest today is Allen Hinds, a player that most certainly possesses what I like to call the “Three T's of guitar playing”- Touch, Tone, and Taste. Allen is originally from Alabama but has lived in Southern California most of his life and found a home at the world famous Musicians Institute in Hollywood (where we first met when I was a student there in the early 90's). Along the way he has also built a successful career as a sideman (Gino Vanelli, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Randy Crawford, Hiroshima, etc..) and solo artist with 5 solo records to his name - Fly South, Monkeys and Slides, Falling Up, Beyond it All, and Fact of the Matter. His new yet to be released record entitled “The Good Fight” should be available very soon. In this interview, which took place at Allen's house in Laurel Canyon, we discuss his teaching career, legato technique, Gino Vanelli stories, playing over chord changes, how slide guitar playing has been a big part of his sound, and much more. CRIME OF THE CENTURY by Supertramp Rob brings us Supertramp — with their commercial breakthrough, Crime of the Century, their third studio album. Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson rebuilt the group after their first two unsuccessful albums, adding Bob C. Benburg on drums, Dougie Thomson on bass, and John Helliwell as their woodwinds player. Although not a concept album, Crime of the Century loosely follows themes involving loneliness, struggles with conformity, and mental struggles. This album benefits from the very different styles and personalities of Davies and Hodgson, and the tracks have stood the test of time. Join us as we highlight this album and the hits of September 1974. School After a soft start with harmonica and kids playing on the playground, this song builds through wistful Hodgson-led lyrics into a jam session with piano and marimba. Bloody Well Right Rick Davies takes the lead vocals and shows his keyboard chops on a jazz organ lead-in. Probably one of Rob's all time favorite songs. Crime of the Century This title track was the piece that the band felt was the strongest song on the album. The lyrics are self-reflective, where the instigators of the crime of the century are "you and me." Dreamer Who can forget this biggest hit from the album? This song was composed by Roger Hodgson at the age of 19. Hodgson and Davies swap vocal duties, with Hodgson taking the high harmonies. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK: Theme from "The Rockford Files" James Garner played a down and out detective in this TV series that started in September of 74 and lasted through 1980. STAFF PICKS: Elton John - The Bitch is Back Brian's staff pick highlights this song from Elton John's album Caribou. The title comes from Bernie Taupin's wife's description of Elton John's moodiness. Although a popular song, it's title was controversial, and kept it from getting as much airplay as it otherwise might. The Raspberries - Starting Over Bruce's pick is from the Cleveland, Ohio group's final album. The Raspberries were influenced by The Beatles and The Who, and you can hear great harmonies in their songs. Reunion - LIFE IS A ROCK (But the Radio Rolled Me) Wayne brings us this pick, featuring a fast monotone lyric summary of the artists on the radio at the time. Gino Vanelli - People Gotta Move Rob's staff pick has an R&B crossover feel. French Canadian Gino Vanelli was one of the first Caucasian musicians to perform on Soul Train. LAUGH TRACK: Cheech and Chong - Earache My Eye Cheech and Chong take us out this week with one of their “COUGH-COUGH-HACK” classics.

Growing up, he and his brother, Matt, played in his father’s band in Detroit…how’s that for push start to a musical career? This eventually pointed him to college where he refined his talent while studying at the prestigious North Texas State Music School. Soon after, he was chosen by Maynard to play in his infamous Big Band. That in itself is an amazing accomplishment for a young musician. After moving from Dallas to LA, he naturally landed on the “A” list by delivering both quality and consistency in his performing. He’s equally comfortable on the stage as in the studio, and thrives in either environment. You’ll hear his drumming on NBC’s FRIENDS, as well as several motion pictures and other TV shows. Inside MusiCast welcomes a truly great musician, composer and human being, Gregg Bissonette.

This week I lost a good friend of mine in a senseless auto accident twenty miles north of Spokane, Washington. His name was Marc Sorger, He was 56. Marc was a real renaissance man of the music business; someone that did everything well. And a true Unsung Hero. He was one the best all-around musicians / studio cats I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. He was a vibrant and dynamic live performer as well as a gifted engineer and mixer. He was also one of the few golden ears I've ever known. I swear he could spot a problem that was plus or minus 2 db at 18k . . . over the telephone. As a performer (sax and vocals) he was so fun to watch. He lived and loved his music. His vocal range was stunning and he could do total justice to screaming rock and roll or a tender jazz ballad. He had the kind of voice that made most people feel like just giving up their singing when they heard him. For some reason, it just made me want to be better. I studied him for hours and it was an education beyond monetary value. He performed and wrote with The Dillards, The Righteous Brothers, Gino Vanelli, Michael McDonald, Dean and Carol Parks, Linda Ronstadt, Tom Wopat, Greg Topper, The Spirits Of Rhythm, Safe Sax and a host of others. He also helped to design and build several studios, including Walter Brecker's place over in Hawaii a few years ago. I had so many good times with Marc in the studio. We usually spent the whole session trying to recover from laughter. I remember one time we were working on some foley late at night and we were like two kids playing in their favorite sandbox together. It was pure joy and magic. That's the way it was always meant to be in the studio as far as I'm concerned. Below are links to just a sample of some of his work, including some projects we worked on together, and other folks with whom he worked and played. If you happen to have known him or worked with him, please drop me a line and let me know. I can't begin to fathom that we'll never work together again. I miss him so much it hurts. My condolences to Marc's whole family, his daughters (Rachell, Natalie and Sabrina), his friends and his long-time musical partners in the group Safe Sax, John Lowry and Tera Wolfe-Brasch. There will be an event in Marc's Honor at Ella's Supper Club in downtown Spokane on November 4th, 2007.
