Between Two Worlds

Holistic Lifestyle Coach, Pavanne Veltman, is back for a third episode with Scott and Joey. In this episode, Scott takes us to a new topic. Parenting and how it intermingles with our spiritual beliefs. It's one thing to have an awareness of what your parents did or did not give you growing up, but it's a whole other ballgame when you are now the parent trying to figure out what to do. This is the situation Scott finds himself in and he is seeking Pavanne's advice. This is the first time Scott announces that they were pregnant on air and it takes place right before their gender reveal party. It is super American, but he couldn't help himself and they found out it was a girl.... ahhhh how precious! Topics Discussed: How to raise independent spiritual beings who are able to decide for themselves what they believe in. How to raise boys from a mother of two. Specifically in making them feel heard. How Scott is excited no matter what gender their baby is And how to deeply root your child in a religious tradition while still allowing space for their questions and doubts. Questions for the Community: What did your parents teach you about God and religion? Was it positive or negative? What would you do differently when raising your kids? Is society missing out on something in their push to move away from organized religion? 152: Wade's Fitness Coach Talks Metabolism & Feeling Great at 50+ - with Scott Abel

BiOptimizers - Awesome Health Podcast

The bodybuilding coach who guided Wade to victory 25 years ago is back, helping Wade crush his 50th birthday. One day back in 1996, our host Wade Lightheart happened to catch a lecture at the BC provincial bodybuilding championships. Scott Abel was presenting the lecture, and Wade quickly noticed Scott's impressive knowledge of bodybuilding. One of Scott's students stood on stage during the class, and her bodybuilding physique was aesthetically flawless. The experience made an impression on Wade.   Over the next year, while Wade struggled in all of his bodybuilding competitions, usually coming in dead last, he kept noticing how multiple students of Scott's were winning contests and looking fantastic onstage. Wade decided he should find out what these other bodybuilders were learning from “Coach Abel.” So, Wade hired Scott to be his bodybuilding trainer, which turned out to be one of those defining moments in Wade's life. Scott guided Wade to many victories - not only in bodybuilding competitions - but also internal wins involving fitness, nutrition, mindset, and developing high-performance habits.  As Wade approaches 50, he has hired Scott a second time to be his fitness trainer to help guide his 50 weeks to 50 fitness plan.  Wade wants to hit his 50th birthday feeling fantastic (and he is documenting the entire process for biOptimizer followers), and Scott is highly qualified to help Wade achieve this milestone.  Scott Abel is a 40+ year veteran of the fitness industry whose expertise is in using metabolism to transform the physiques of both everyday people and bodybuilders alike.  Scott loves helping ordinary and everyday people lose weight, look better, and feel great - so don't think this episode is only for bodybuilders. Far from it - the groundbreaking information in this episode is already helping overweight, average Joes and Janes get into the best shape of their lives without feeling deprived by food restrictions.  Intrigued? Be sure to tune in!    In this podcast, we cover: Why Scott thinks the Keto diet is “the worst diet ever.”  What is the “cycle diet?” How Scott's high-performance bodybuilding history makes him one of the best fitness coaches for “regular people” What you need to do to stay fit and healthy beyond age 50 Metabolism changes as we age and how hormones play into this Scott's recent pivot on plant-based diets Why Scott has never been a low-carb advocate Some gold nuggets found in Scott's exciting books    What Professional Eaters Teach Us about Metabolism Scott was ahead of his time back in the 1970s with metabolism. He and Wade talk a lot about the science of metabolism, along with the hype and misinformation out there.  As a high-performance expert who constantly seeks out real-world evidence before making claims, Scott points out how his book The Cycle Diet talks about professional eaters and what they teach us about metabolism. He points out a petite, skinny female competitive eater they call the Black Widow and how she can eat crazy amounts of food in a short amount of time - like nine pounds of cheesecake in ten minutes - yet she remains “skinny as a rail.” Her example supports everything Scott has taught about metabolism for forty years.  Competitive eaters eat very little before a competition. This is what Scott teaches with the Cycle Diet: regular undereating with well-timed “refeeds.” This approach keeps your metabolism in fat-burning mode rather than getting sluggish and shifting into a fat-storing mode.  You see, diets - meaning long stretches of food deprivation that only work if they last forever, are not the right approach. They set people up for failure because when someone only eats a low-calorie diet for a long time, their metabolism goes into starvation mode, meaning it slows way down to a standstill. So then, when you do enjoy a cheat meal, your body stores it as fat.  This illustrates why most diets don't work in the long run.  Accept the reality of where you are physically. Scott talks about his spiritual transformation over the years and how he is a different person now. Scott Abel from the 1980s was much different.  One of Scott's spiritual principles he now takes to heart is “acceptance is better than resistance.” He points out that none of us can change the aging process, so it is better to accept the reality that aging is not something you have to fight off. Aging is not a bad thing. Go ahead and accept how aging is like a snowball going down a hill. “It accelerates as we age, and it's a very real thing. You're going to lose muscle. And you're going to have to accept that. You can mitigate it to some extent, but you cannot stop it.” “In my book Physique After 50, I say that ‘it's not enough to stop comparing yourself to other people based on your age, gender, or whatever. You must stop comparing yourself to the younger version of yourself.”   If you are 50 years old and Scott is starting a training program with you, he will not have you doing the same routines you did in your twenties. “Why would you try to approach it with the same mindset?”  Scott tells Wade, “One of my favorite sayings about aging is ‘consistency is more important than intensity. Back when you (Wade) first hired me, I would have slapped someone who said that. I used to be all about intensity.” “But now, I can throw my back out in my sleep. I used to be able to train with a little bit of backache. Now, I can hurt myself getting out of bed in the morning.” “People want to deny all this, but if you try to deny it, there's going to be some serious consequences. I like to say, ‘train your age.' If you're “past your prime” physically, yet want to get into better shape and optimize your fitness so you can live at the highest optimal level possible for you, then be sure to tune into this episode. Keep in mind this is Wade's trainer here. If you value and respect the knowledge Wade holds in the realms of fitness and health, then you will surely want to listen to what his bodybuilding mentor has to say. You know Wade is smart. Imagine how brilliant Scott is! There's a reason why Wade sought Scott's counsel.  Check out this episode - training at your age level could transform your life!    Episode Resources: Check out more about Scott Abel Scott's books on Amazon Scott Abel Coaching on YouTube Coach Scott Abel on Instagram Coach Scott Abel on Facebook Scott Abel on Twitter FLASHBACK: Episode 002: The Cycle Diet & What True Health Is

He speaks on how the pool industry has been impacted by the pandemic since the beginning of 2020 and what opportunities emerged in the new normal among the radical changes that the industry has undergone as a whole.  However, Scott also notes that there are more positives than negatives in the long run and that one of the most important ways for companies to thrive is for them to have open, honest communication with their customers as everybody continues to navigate these uncertain times.  Topics Discussed:  01:05 - An introduction to Scott Frost  05:32 - The past year was both “an exciting and challenging time”  11:05 - Tackling challenges and rethinking just-in-time systems  16:03 - How the pandemic has influenced Fluidra's decisions  18:33 - Why no other crisis compares to this one  19:45 - The pandemic's positive effects on the industry  25:44 - The pandemic's negative effects on the industry  28:15 - Texas freeze effects  33:25 - Suez Canal, trucking, and freight effects  35:47 - How manufacturers are alleviating supply chain issues  40:11 - How to help customers navigate these tricky times  48:34 - How dealers can adjust consumer expectations  52:06 - How Scott sees the industry recovering        Sponsors:  Fluidra  Pool Pro Mag  Connect with Guest:  Episode Webpage  Website  Facebook  Instagram  Twitter  LinkedIn  YouTube    Connect with Pool Chasers:  Website  Instagram  Facebook  Facebook Group  Twitter  YouTube  Patreon    Key Quotes from Episode:  “Just-in-time” only works if you have historical basis to understand what the future will bring, and there is now such a lack of understanding of what the future holds.  A positive from the pandemic is that I'm now spending a lot more time talking about the convenience and the fun of owning a pool. It's put us on the radar.  We're in the backyard entertainment business.  The easy thing is to react to what the consumer wants. “I need my pump fixed,” or “I need my pool cleaned.” That's reacting. Being proactive and looking at your business with a proactive approach is a good practice.

One of the most recession-resistant asset classes is warehouse investment, and today we sit with industry expert Scott Krone to find out why. With a Master’s of Architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology, Scott is the Founder of Coda Management Group; a company that specializes in creating and seeking existing warehouse investment opportunities. We open the show by hearing more from Scott about Coda and what they do in the real estate space. Scott then talks about warehouses as an asset class and draws relatable comparisons to multi-family. He notes why warehouse investment is a simplified version of multifamily, and how they’re typically favorable toward NNN leases. Looking at present times, we ask Scott to tell us about how his warehouses have performed during the coronavirus pandemic. Listeners will delight in some of the ways this asset class has soared, as Scott uses examples of basketball and indoor golf. Following this, Scott gets into the nitty-gritty things and explains how he evaluates markets for warehouse opportunities, the strengths of warehouse opportunities, and who he works with to find inventory. To conclude the show, we ask Scott about his biggest business blunders and what his most useful industry tool is. Be sure to join us today! Key Points From This Episode:Introducing today’s guest Scott Krone. We hear a little bit about Scott’s background.Scott tells us about what he currently does with Coda.Hear about warehouses as an asset class. What makes warehouse leasing so similar to multi-family.How the warehouse space has coped with the coronavirus pandemic.Driving factors that make investing in the warehouse space interesting for Scott. How Scott evaluates markets for warehouse opportunities.Who Scott works with to find inventory.Scott lists his top three strengths for warehouse investing. The cautions that come with warehouse investment. What a typical investment plan looks like for Scott’s warehouses.Find out how Scott chooses his tenants and what the perfect lease plan is.One tool Scott uses in real estate investing he cannot do without.Scott’s biggest business mistake.Tweetables:“Our main portfolio of investments right now is actively pursuing self-storage opportunities — either creating them or looking for existing opportunities.” — Scott Krone [0:02:03]“If you’re doing a triple net lease, then it’s just straight income to you and your tenant takes care of the rest. So within our flex warehouse space, we have modified gross and triple net leases. It’s much easier for us to manage compared to multi-family.” — Scott Krone [0:03:27]“Warehouses are much more predictable. We could look at demographics, saturations, market rates — it’s a lot more analytical than comparatively to multi-family.” — Scott Krone [0:02:05]“We’re not going in paying top dollar, we’re coming in and making sure that we have a competitive advantage once we do buy. We truly believe that you make your money on the buy, not on the sell.” — Scott Krone [0:09:01]Links Mentioned in Today’s Episode:Passive Income Through Multifamily Real Estate Facebook Group Free Call with Kyle or LalitaScott Krone on LinkedInCoda Management GroupCoda Management Group emailIllinois Institute of TechnologyRedIQVirtual Asset Management Summit 2021

THE REAL ESTATE SESSIONS PODCAST Episode : 279 Host: BILL RISSER Guest: SCOTT LINCICOME Episode Summary: Meet today's guest from Pinehurst, North Carolina, Scott Lincicome, one of the partners in Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Lifestyle Property Partners. With his background as a former professional golfer, Scott is an expert in golf properties and other Pinehurst facilities. In this episode, I feature Scott Lincicome as he narrates his journey to Real Estate, including his different passions, especially for sports, and how he leveraged his interests to create a successful Real Estate career. Top Takeaways:  "Lots of resort towns have lots of hotels and lots of rooms and lots of stuff, that is not Pinehurst." Bill Risser "It doesn't matter if it's one agent or a hundred agents. If you got somebody underneath you, it's a management role as well." Scott Lincicome "You've got all the pieces and parts...one day you're going to get out of it, and nobody behind you is going to be Scott Lincicome." Scott Lincicome "Niche yourself, you've got to be the expert in whatever it is you're going to do, and you've got to like being around the people you're going to help." Scott Lincicome Episode Highlights: [00:25] Intro [02:10] For someone who grew up in Atlanta, Why Pinehurst? [03:50] Scott narrates his journey through other sports and how he got started in golf. [15:01] How did Real Estate enter the picture for you? [20:35] Scott describes Pinehurst, North Carolina. [22:50] How Scott got connected with 'Better Home and Gardens'. [27:08] What kind of advice would you give somebody who knows what they're doing but wants to get specific in Real Estate? [31:52] What one piece of advice would you give a new agent just getting started? [33:06] Outro Episode Notes:  Although Scott grew up in Atlanta, he shares that he has now spent 21 years in Pinehurst, North Carolina, with no initial goal.  Sharing his experience golfing, Scott discusses how he started with an initial interest in baseball as a kid and didn't play much golf competitively till his late 20s. He also had a passion for snowboarding earlier on and later managed a snowboarding business in Aspen, mainly working in the sales and tech aspect; however, the pay was small. Moving up to Pinehurst, where the family house was, Scott and his wife, who was also his caddy, spent most of the time living from the car for about a year. Scott narrates his experience before becoming a Realtor in Pinehurst for 16yrs. He describes that the money involved in golf as a sport at the time was also not much, especially in Pinehurst, and he was not ready to leave Pinehurst. This prompted him to move back into sales which he had a great interest in. After working with a Spanish TV company for over a year, he was introduced to Real Estate.  Nowadays, many people move to Pinehurst because it's an incredible place to live. Scott describes Pinehurst as "Mayberry in color" with 50 golf courses. The community has also been voted the safest city to live in North Carolina for close to 23 years.  Describing how he started working with Better Homes and Gardens, Scott shares that while starting in Real Estate with golf properties, he realized he was a better salesperson than a manager and needed help on the management side and worked with Lori to create a brand. For agents who want to get very specific, finding your niche is to know what you're passionate about and talk to the people interested in that field. Scott explains that a significant change in the market is that Millennials are now more interested in buying properties than renting. This is causing shortages since the pool of Millennial buyers is large. Aside from that is the advent of remote working following the pandemic, which means people don't particularly have to live in urban centers. Additionally, there is the acquisition of properties for business purposes.

Scott Lumley; Business Owner, Author, and Philanthropist. Today’s Episode Summary: A lot of us, who are doing businesses, are doing so for a sole purpose and that is: “to have luxuries of life”. However, there are very few people who attach some bigger and better purpose to their business, and my today's guest -Scott Lumley- is one of those few people. Scott Lumley is a successful business owner and a philanthropist. He started his very first business during high school. Then step by step he kept moving on his entrepreneurial path and transitioned from bankruptcy and probation (to do business) to establishing multiple successful businesses. Behind establishing multiple businesses, Scott has a very holy motive whose roots are linked to his traumatic childhood. Scott was born in a family where his mother was a prostitute and his father was in prison. He grew up in an environment where men around him were constantly trying to abuse him but he kept fighting and protecting himself from the evil hands of those people who were supposed to protect him. At the age of 11, he ran out of his house to save himself but unfortunately, he met with a preacher who abducted him, chained him, and raped him literally every single day for 5 years.  After having himself released from chains, Scott started his life. However, this traumatic duration of his life left lasting effects on him for years and it ultimately led him toward a mission and which is: to bring awareness to sex trafficking, eradicate it from society, and save those children who are suffering from the heinous crime of sexual abuse. To fund his cause, he has built multiple businesses. He is using resources, generated by his businesses, to fight against sex trafficking. He believes that to wipe out problems from society you cannot rely on donations; you should build your own business because business is what makes money for you to be able to fight these problems. Scott has not chosen a luxurious life for himself rather a large portion of his income goes into charity. Scott is doing all of this work at a very fine level and people have a huge admiration for him for his work. Scott is the voice of the many helpless kids who are suffering from sexual abuse perpetrated either by their close ones or by any outsider. Scott says that it is the responsibility of every human being to be aware of his surroundings and do whatever you can if you see any kid exhibiting some unusual behavior because that kid may be suffering from sexual abuse. Scott says that you should be able to look at the kid and identify if he/she is ok or not. Also, never let your kids play alone in the streets because they can be so easily abducted from such places. Empower your kids and validate their value so that they could trust you and share with you if anything happens with them. Do not let them suffer alone. Guide your kids, communicate with them, and teach them about these delicacies because if you won’t teach them and just hope that they will know that on their own then you are pushing them into the wrong hands. To learn more about sex trafficking and how you can avoid that to happen, tune in and listen till the end. What You Will Learn from this Episode: Scott Lumley’s life story; his childhood, his abduction and sexual abuse story, his businesses, and his initiative to eradicate sex trafficking. What happens when you partner up with the wrong person? Importance of “being aware” to identify victims of child abuse. How Scott saved a small girl, at a party, who was being molested? As the lines we have drawn to separate ourselves from others seem to be hardening, will we ever get to a place where we all get along? There may not be a silver bullet to reach a place of inclusion and equity, but this does not mean it is not possible. Today's guest, Scott Hoesman, Founder of inQuest Consulting, is doing the work to help teams create a more empathetic and inclusive culture. With feelings of anger, exclusion, and fear at an all-time high, Scott helps companies understand difference and find common humanity. In this episode, we talk about what inclusivity means and why we need to move past the idea that when we bring people in, we will lose something. Not only is this not true, but viewing people who are different from us through a fear-based lens only entrenches divisions further. We discuss why topics of inclusion and equity are so difficult for people to talk about, where Scott encourages everyone – yes, even the most liberal among us – to interrogate how they live the value of inclusivity. Rather than villainizing one group, we have to turn inward, open our hearts and minds, and interrogate our own biases. Even though we are in a difficult period of history, Scott remains optimistic that we will be able to get back to civil discourse and a society of openness and learning.     Key Points From This Episode: Not getting along is part of the human experience, but it is something we need to lean into. Our scarcity mindset – that does in some ways protect us – pits us up against one another. Inclusion does not mean there will be fewer resources for you. Why Scott is both proud and not satisfied with the work inQuest has done. Some of the common themes that Scott has noticed from his work.  Understanding that there will be backlash when talking about difficult topics openly. The power of naming your discomfort when trying to talk to people about topics where your knowledge is limited You cannot put the burden of your education on other people – It is your responsibility. How geographical and social context influences Scott’s work around inclusion. The power of proximity: Why being exposed to different people breaks down barriers. Nature versus nurture: Scott’s take on whether empathy is innate or learned. Why Scott believes the topic of inclusivity is particularly difficult for people to grapple with. How Scott’s 40th birthday party made him reflect on how he lived his professional values in his personal life. Hear how Scott helps people to see how diverse their social and professional circles are. We have made it socially acceptable to discriminate based on visible and invisible difference. Social media can further polarize or unite us depending on how we use it. Hear Scott’s take on cancel culture and why the argument is so nuanced. Why – even though we are facing such a hard time – Scott is still so optimistic. The worry Scott has about us becoming complacent with these issues. The history of inclusive consulting as a profession and how it has evolved over time. What the role of government is in creating and enabling inclusive and equitable practices. It is not only conservative people who need to open their minds; liberals do as well. We need to get back to a place of civil discourse where we can disagree without villainization. Despite this brutal logic, some species have learned to survive in even the most hostile conditions. Others couldn't—and perished. While incremental genetic adaptations hone the physiology of nearly every creature on this planet, there's another evolutionary force that is just as important: the power of choice. In an explosive investigation into the limits of endurance, in "The Wedge", Scott discovers how humans can wedge control over automatic physiological responses into the breaking point between stress and biology. We can reclaim our evolutionary destiny.         While writing the book, Carney submerged himself in ice water and learned breathing techniques from daredevil fitness guru Wim Hof. It gave him superhuman levels of endurance and quieted a persistent autoimmune illness. At the core of those methods is a technique called The Wedge that can give a person an edge in just about any situation.       In my conversation w/ Scott, you'll discover:         -What is "The Wedge" described in Scott's book?...18:00         -The concept of "neural symbology"...18:23         -How kettlebells build trust and allow the body to relax in the face of stress...24:10         -Scott's findings on carbon dioxide (CO2)...37:09         -How Scott and his wife condensed 6 months of couples therapy in 3 hours...58:00         Episode sponsors: Kion Lean, Butcher Box, Magnesium Breakthrough by BiOptimizers, Vuori Clothing           bengreenfieldfitness.com/thewedge
