Send us Fan MailA single quarter on an arcade cabinet used to mean something. It meant you were next, you were staying, and you were about to prove it in front of everybody. We chase that feeling from the jump, starting with a Mortal Kombat movie check-in and sliding straight into a real debate about the best fighting games of all time: Street Fighter, Tekken, classic combos, and why some games got “worse” once the super strings took over. If you love retro gaming, arcade nostalgia, and the culture around classic video games, this one turns into a time machine fast. From there we zoom out into the whole era: Pac-Man at the laundromat, Donkey Kong patterns, Tetris obsession, Contra codes, and the wild speed run of consoles from Atari and Intellivision to Nintendo, Sega Genesis, PlayStation, Dreamcast, and Xbox. We also get into why gaming felt more social back then and why today's online party chat still isn't the same as a room full of people waiting their turn with quarters in hand. And because we can't stay in one lane, we pivot into sports talk and the way the NFL schedule release can swallow an entire night. Then it gets real: pickup basketball, old heads versus young legs, clock management, ball movement, and the one athletic ability we'd keep forever as we age. We close with Netflix recommendations, guilty-pleasure scripted drama, and a quick run through movies we're ready to see next. If you enjoyed the laughs and the nostalgia, subscribe, share this with a friend who lived at the arcade, and leave us a review. 396 Mortal Kombat 2 Invincible Finale Boys Backlash Flight of the ConchordsDoom Scrolling IntroSteph kicks things off with a Tip Top canned cocktail (Jungle Bird) while the Foos recap a packed weekend: Joe's work family-day picnic vibes, notes for next year (more trucks, coffee cart dreams, boba cart fantasies), and a throwback hang with old band friends at Richie's birthday — the same house where they used to throw teenage ragers. Joe lands a darkly perfect joke: the only time people call you “young” at 40 is at your funeral. Then Florida delivers, as always: a homeless man allegedly catches a felony after throwing an open ketchup packet at a Good Samaritan who checked on him — with the real story being the drugs they reportedly found afterward. Florida stays undefeated.Geeking Out is stacked: the Foos review Mortal Kombat 2 (May 8) and declare it's basically a full-on Johnny Cage movie — bigger scale, more classic characters, more fan service, and fight scenes that feel like the game's arenas brought to life. They roast a friend for making it halfway through the movie before realizing he thought he was watching Street Fighter. They also hit the Invincible season 4 finale fallout: Mark's trauma, Thragg stepping up as the looming big threat, Viltrumite chaos, and the internet's meme machine going into overdrive (mustaches included). Then it's The Boys discourse: the newest episode getting the lowest rating of the series, pacing complaints, and the show flirting with burnout — plus the wild release idea of the series finale in 4DX one day early… and the local showings basically selling out instantly. From there it's rapid-fire: Green Day's upcoming comedy movie Nimrods (Legion M involvement), the Swatch x Audemars Piguet “Royal Pop” collab causing real-world chaos (lines, cops, pepper spray) over a watch you can't even buy online, and a Mortal Kombat trivia quiz where Steph nearly goes perfect… until the razor-hat question exposes the Kung Lao/Liu Kang mix-up.Here's What I Would Do wraps with two dilemmas:Tori (Burbank) thinks a married coworker is crossing the line with “work spouse” energy and wants to shut it down without workplace fallout.Alyssa (Costa Mesa) agreed to location sharing with her boyfriend and now feels watched — and the Foos call it what it is: modern convenience turning into surveillance real fast. Before the outro, they shout out the Flight of the Conchords show at the Greek (their first time in years), with surprise moments and guests — and plenty of “Netflix is a joke” energy.ChaptersDoom Scrolling IntroIntroTip Top Jungle Bird canned cocktail + weekend recapWork family day picnic notes coffee cart boba cart talkOld band friends Richie birthday throwback rager houseFlorida man felony over ketchup packet + drugs foundGeeking Out Mortal Kombat 2 review Johnny Cage movieFriend thought it was Street Fighter until halfway throughInvincible season 4 finale trauma Thragg Viltrumites memesThe Boys lowest rated episode discourse pacing burnoutThe Boys finale in 4DX one day early sold out scrambleGreen Day movie Nimrods Legion M summer releaseSwatch Audemars Piguet Royal Pop collab chaos lines copsMortal Kombat trivia quiz Steph almost perfectHere's What I Would Do Married coworker flirting Tori BurbankHere's What I Would Do Location sharing feels like surveillance Alyssa Costa MesaFlight of the Conchords at the Greek recapOutro + Doom Scrolling OutroMortal Kombat 2, Johnny Cage, Invincible season 4 finale, Thragg, Viltrumites, The Boys backlash, 4DX finale, Green Day Nimrods, Legion M, Swatch Audemars Piguet Royal Pop, Florida ketchup felony, Flight of the Conchords Greek Theatre, work spouse, location sharing

Comedian (soon to be film composer?) Eric Andre and composer-producer Prateek Rajagopal (co-writer, executive producer, and the man whose range runs from The Mandalorian to India's premier death metal export GUTSLIT) bring their new BLARF album “Film Scores for Films That Don't Exist” to SCORE. An orchestral fever dream five years in the making, recorded with live players in Los Angeles and Budapest, and the unlikely creative partnership nobody saw coming. And why Eric Andre is ready to become a film composer (and has beef with John Williams). How a Berklee-trained upright bassist became one of comedy's most chaotic forces, and how Prateek — whose credits span Hollywood, Bollywood and immersive media, with contributions to projects by Bobby Krlic, Ludwig Goransson and Joseph Shirley — became the secret weapon who turned five years of Eric's voice memos into a full orchestral album.Plus, why BLARF evolved from sample-clearance nightmares to full symphonic chaos, and what does Dead Ballerina actually look like in their heads? Plus, the Ennio Morricone influence that drives the whole project, the death metal detonation hiding inside the track “What's for Dinner” (guess which one pushed for that), how this album is inspired by Nine Inch Nails' Ghost, and why Eric destroyed a piano with an axe. Also, the unaired Eric Andre Show sketch that passed S&P clearance and still got killed (a pro-Al Qaeda country song he sings in full), details on a role in the new Street Fighter film (Jason Momoa had other plans), and all the times Eric was nearly stabbed, shot or beaten up for his gags.Interview by Kenny Holmes and Matt Schrader at Stonesthrow Studios in Los Angeles. On this episode of the Casual Comics Cast we explore the decades-long intersection of video games and comic books. With Mortal Kombat 2 hitting theaters, we look back at the revolutionary impact of the original 1992 arcade game—from its controversial "photorealistic" gore to its legendary '90s industrial soundtrack.Plus, why is it so difficult to turn a hit video game like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat into a long-running comic series? We discuss the challenges in adapting video games to comic and then provide our list of the best video game adaptations of comic book properties - and how games like Telltale's Walking Dead and Critical Role's Dispatch are blurring the lines between playing a game and reading a comic. All this, and more on this episode of the Casual Comics Cast!

Several pillars of the game have been turned upside down - Guile is the main character, Ken and Ryu are low-level conmen, and Blanka wasn't even raised by eels - but thankfully Raoul Julia's M Bison is staggeringly good fun, and we have our FIRST EVER podcast guest in the shape of frequent anecdote-featurer and childhood Street Fighter enthusiast, Matt Elliott. Mike talks about actors who had very different careers before making it in Hollywood. From doctors to firefighters, footballers to lawyers, these are the unexpected paths that led some of the biggest stars to fame. Mike talks to They Will Kill You’s director Kirill Sokolov about why he quit his dream to be scientist to direct movies, scenes that came to him in a dream and how much prep goes into a day of shooting with real FIRE. He then talks to the movie’s producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti who are siblings. They are known for directing and producing horror hits like Mama, IT: Chapter One, IT: Chapter Two, and the series IT: Welcome to Derry. Mike talks to them about what a producer of a movie actually does, the hardest things to get cleared by the studio and if a boldly original film originally is seen as a risk. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about Michael. It’s the story of Michael Jackson from his early days in the Jackson 5 to becoming the biggest entertainer in the world. Michael Jackson is played by his nephew, Jaafar Jackson. Mike talks about where it ranks on the music biopics so far of the decade, Jaafar Jackson’s performance and the controversy surrounding what the movie left out. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about Street Fighter. Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament. Mike talks about his love for the arcade game and why this is both good and bad news for video game movies. New Episodes Every Monday!
