When she says, "We just don't communicate," or "You never listen,"...she is talking about this learnable skill.    Listen to her heart. Listen to understand. Listen to let her know you understand and care.   Not listening to respond or even defend yourself.    It is to listen to her emotions and sit with her in her pain. To be curious and to give her a safe space to share. When she shares her emotions (her heart) vulnerably, you are witnessing courage.    You are on sacred ground.    Tread carefully and gently.   For Mother's Day, just the other weekend --   Did I get diamonds?    A weekend getaway at a fancy resort?    A stainless steel, 14-quart Instant Pot Duo Mini 7-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker?   I mean...    Sure those would have been good gifts.   But...   what I got was priceless:    Hours of his full attention.    He got excited about what I shared.    He cared about what matters to me -- how I'm growing,    how I was feeling,   and genuinely wanted to hear more.    He noticed my feelings -- wanted to hold space for them --    and held me emotionally...    And...well...did what I teach you to do in today's episode.   It was far more fulfilling than those other things ever could be.    (Just FYI, when he surprised me with my favorite wine, beautiful glasses, roses, and sitting together in a gorgeous spot in Central Park...that did add to the intimately fulfilling conversation. :)   Blessings,   Belah   PS If you'd like to have a conversation with me or a member of my team about what's going on in your marriage and see if one of my programs can help you, apply for a Clarity Call: delightyourmarriage.com/cc        Delight Your Marriage has been awarded in the Top 30 Relationship Podcasts for 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2021!   "Through working with Belah, my marriage is saved and thriving, and I am forever changed and grateful."

'Over the Rainbow' composed by Harold Arlen & Yip Harburg 'What a Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong Arrangement by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole …I swear… today it's one interruption after another. That ideal of having frickin' studio space in which to record? Uninterrupted? Where someone ELSE sets up the frickin' sound? It doesn't sound like a real thing in this world. ...But seriously folks. I recorded a shit-ton of takes of this that got ruined due to interruptions and y'all have to deal with what is left because perfect is the enemy of done. I don't know how fledgling musicians ever get off the ground in this frakking world anymore. It's like one can either be around people or one can make music but not both. Or something. I'm trying to cultivate out of this dumpster fire gratitude and generosity for musicians who are successfully making music because damn. This world makes it nigh impossible for music to happen anymore, and music is the ONLY thing that's real & makes life worth living when nothing else does. MUSIC. ALL THINGS. IN MUSIC. Less barriers + less judgment = more music. Just FYI.

Casey zoned out as we talked football, zoned back in as we briefly touched on pizza, or at least the topic of... It was enlightening to hear about Miyako's work in NYC and her role as a government official, and heartening to discuss the future of women in the Japanese working landscape. Just FYI she spoke for the perfect amount of time, unlike Joe who always goes on for ages in meetings. We quizzed her knowledge of all things NUFC, while simultaneously testing Casey's descriptive skills, and we heard her New York-based cultural mis-communication. This is the first of two (at this time) 'correction' episodes.   This episode focuses primarily on an error that I originally made in the first episode of the Beta-Alanine miniseries.   In that episode, I stated that the cause of muscle fatigue (drop in the pH of the muscle) is the rise of lactate. This is incorrect.   The second error is when I stated in the episode titled "My Thoughts On The Supplement Business" that Beta-Alanine is what helps to reduce muscle fatigue directly. This is only part of the picture.   So I thought why not make an episode going over the literature I read to correct my mistakes.   Notes:   I mispronounced the term oxidative phosphorylation several times during this episode. I pronounced it oxidative phosphorlyzation. Just keep that in mind while listening.   Second, is the reaction that creates lactate. It's lactate or lactic acid fermentation. However, the enzyme that is a catalyst in this reaction is lactate dehydrogenase. I've seen lactate/lactic acid fermentation also called the lactate dehydrogenase reaction.   Third, I couldn't remember what the term NAD is. It's nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.   There's a couple of parts in the recording where I edited out some mishaps. First, my phone that was recording the video fell off the shelf. So I had edit out me putting it back on the shelf. Second, my wife came into the closet at the end of the episode during the outro. Lots of appropriately wielded grown-up language in this episode.* In this episode of It Will Probably Be OK, we put aside our lingering anxiety about that darn pandy and spend some quality time instead worrying about police brutality, white supremacy, and what you should do when someone orders you to go home. Let’s talk about Curfews. Do they Work? Are they simply an escalation of the police state? And what impact do they have on crime reduction? Mini Topics * Nick observes that in a 20-year-long mirror, the tradition of wearing a date’s underwear on the outside of their suit coat seems surprisingly weird. * Nkenge wants to talk about egg nog -- specifically how well egg nog holds it’s liquor. From there, we forget to come home before dark. And oh, boy. It does get dark.

This week, we review Conspiracy in Death, a book that pretty much shows up in just about everyone's Top 5 or Top 10 from the whole series. There is just so much great stuff in this book, Highs and Lows and lots of angst but also lots of humor, and some of our favorite banters...just a fantastic book. This is a book about "Power." Acquiring power, taking power away, who has power and who does not. A few characters that we all now love and are now important members of this series are introduced in this book: Troy Trueheart, Louise Dimatto and Don Webster. All fan favorites. Baxter makes his second appearance, and has an important role in this book, but also in future books. Plus, Nora is starting to establish Eve's bullpen, and we see a bit more of Baxter in this book. We love Baxter, but we feel sorry for him in this book because Roarke takes his anger out on Baxter and slugs him, when Baxter is just trying to do his job. We talk about how Ellen Bowers is "The Worst" and dislikes Eve for no apparent reason. She files a complaint against Eve for using inappropriate and abusive language, which we are all shocked at, because, as we know from reviews of "Shadows in Death," Eve has never used inappropriate language this early on in the series. Eve is going through a LOT in this book, so we see a lot more of "Jokey Roarke" who uses humor to try and tease Eve out of her mood. When that doesn't work, he uses tough love by suggesting maybe they could start a family and Eve could get pregnant. This approach DOES work. There is a LOT of sex in this book also. More than usual? Jen thinks Eve needs to "chill the fuck out" about Roarke being involved in so many companies, and boards and properties, and also that Roarke continues to give her money. Also, why is it always "Level 3" for Eve? ALSO... Just FYI, you can find good iced tea at your local PF Changs, Substation 2, or Dickey's BBQ Pit.

Welcome to episode thirty-five of the Low Tide Boyz, a Swimrun Podcast! On the show this week we are going across the pond to Europe to learn about the Swimrun scene in Portugal with Bruno Safara of Swimrun Portugal. This was a fun one! More about the interview later in the show. Training UpdateOur training plans are still sideways due to forest fires in Northern California and the terrible air quality. We’re basically doing indoor stuff until the air quality improves. One big piece of news in terms of training is that we will actually have to start training because we are committed to going to the Ödyssey Swimrun Austin race on November 8, 2020. We’ll be doing an Odyssey Swimrun Austin course preview show in the next few weeks in case you need any additional motivation to sign up and join us in Texas for some Swimrunning. In case you need any additional motivation to sign up, use the code LOWTIDEBOYZ, and save 25% of your entry. Just FYI, this race with be either preceded and/or followed by some serious Texas BBQ.Shout OutsThis week we’re shouting out Per Åström. Chipper did some deep internet research and discovered that Per left the very first comment to our announcement of the launch of the podcast. He’s basically an OG from day 1 so a tip of the hat to you sir. For some reason if you don’t follow us on Instagram you are really missing out! Feats of Endurance Weekly AwardThis week’s award was a toss-up between two finalists so we decided to give the “prestigious” award to both of them. First, Courtney and Christian have put in some major miles together this past week. We think that they are a husband and wife mixed team. Second, Clare busted out a 90-mile ride on her trainer over the weekend. Yes, 90 miles…indoors. Congrats and thanks for being part of our Strava Club community. This Week in SwimrunIn case you were living under a rock this weekend and/or somehow cut off from WIFI, the Ötillö Sprint Final 15k race went off without a hitch in Utö. This two-day event featured 3 separate waves of 50 athletes each wave to comply with Swedish COVID rules. This weekend also featured some pretty gnarly weather so that must have been fun.In more of a bummer than news to anyone, the Ötillö World Championship was slated to take place this past weekend and would have been the 15th race of the OG Swimrun. We are all looking forward to celebrating the 15th edition in 2021!Swimrun Sumin happened in Sumin, Poland on Sunday. Looked like a cool local event and the photos on Instagram were FOMO inducing with the mix of town and trail runs and lake swims. This race had Marathon (42K), Sprint (27.7k), and Super Sprint (13.8k) distance options. The Torekov Swimrun took place in Torekov, Sweden. The field was limited to 150 participants due to Swedish COVID rules but it looked like fun was had by all. The race only had one distance: 23k divided into 18 sections with 4.7k of swimming. While it wasn’t a race per se, the Kraken Swimrun team of former and current Ötillö World Champs and other stout athletes completed the three-day adventure from Arholma to Landsort that we mentioned in last week’s show. The adventure ended up being a total of 242K’s of swimming and running, or roughly one Ötillö World Championship each day for three days! Just Fyi we are changing our Podcast title very soon to Fitness Driven Podcast. We are still in the same place, we aren't going anywhere, the title is going to change, and you will probably see some new artwork! Over the course of the past few episodes we realized that we are covering fitness beyond just weight-loss and we are covering topics on how this fitness impacts mom life, business life, relationships, finances, career, spirituality, mindset, and so much more. So by altering our title a bit will hopefully magnify how fitness drives your life! Anyways in today's episode I had the pleasure to talk to Dr. Erica Wong, one of the Co Founders of White Wong PT here in Las Vegas. We cover some sweet topics about injuries, prevention, and her passion and interest towards driven athletes. We cover her view of how CrossFit Impacted the fitness culture and how the varied disciplines relate to the collaborative improvements in modern medicine. If you currently have injuries or have had injuries in the past this a great episode for you. In this episode, we begin discussing our trauma surrounding our relationship with our Dads. Vanessa and Doug have the same biological mother, but Doug had both a biological father who was present in his life and Vanessa's biological father--who raised him. So, in this first part, we focus on Doug's Dads and how he understands his relationship to each of them. Stay tuned for Part 2, where we'll concentrate more thoroughly on Vanessa's relationship with the man both Vanessa and Doug call "Dad." [TRIGGER WARNINGS: Father's Day, Gaslighting, Mass Incarceration, Systemic Racism, Drug Addiction, Childhood Abandonment, Rape, Anti-Asian Racism (in the quiz)] Show Notes The website Doug found through a link on Twitter is called Shoppe Black, and it contains links to all sorts of Black-owned businesses--including the list of Black-owned coffee brands where he discovered Blk & Bold. This week, Doug began drinking their La Guadalupe, Honduras - Single Origin (Direct Trade), Light Roast, and it is 100% certifiably delicious. Buy their stuff, y'all. And then follow the company on Twitter @BlkandBold so you can talk about it. The local coffee shop in Columbus that Vanessa mentioned is called Upper Cup Coffee. If you're ever in the area--and if this whole Covid shit ever goes away--be sure to check it out. Doug refers to his biological Dad as "Dad Rice," because his last name is "Rice," and he refers to his "other Dad" as "Dad Roland," because his last name is "Roland." Also, Vanessa and Doug mention "Urbana" quite frequently. Just FYI--that's the central/southwestern rural Ohio hometown they grew up in. It looks like Carmazzi's, the vintage Urbana candy store Vanessa references, is still in operation after all.   Doug mentions having believed, as a 13-year old, that John Reuben was the "Christian Eminem." If you listen to his music, you'll see how ridiculous that is. Hmm, it looks like he actually is still making music. Who knew? (Bonus show note: Doug named his and Jessy's first dog together "Reuben" after John Reuben). The study Doug is participating in with his church is based on the book How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram Kendi. It's definitely worth looking into if you haven't read it already. We're not even going to give the quiz the courtesy of a link, because it's sooooo racist. If you Google it, find the quiz, and don't understand why we think it's racist, then we recommend you actually getting to know some Asian people (or at least Asian-Americans) before you go visiting any country on that list. Welcome back to the fuel your legacy podcast each week, we expose the faulty foundational mindsets of the past and rebuild a newer, stronger foundation essential in creating your meaningful legacy. We've got a lot of work to do. So let's get started. As much as you like this podcast, I'm certain that you're going to love the book that I just released on Amazon, fuel your legacy, the nine pillars to build a meaningful legacy. I wrote this to share with you the experiences that I had while I was identifying my identity, how I began to create my meaningful legacy and how you can create yours. You're going to find this book on kindle amazon and as always on my website, Samknickerbocker.com.I got a question for you. I'd love to heargo for so I was in one of your podcasts and it's you can only book the nine pillars of actually building meaningful legacy. Okay, so this is a book but you said something in that podcast about you were struggling with your identity.True talk to me about about struggling with my dad. Yeah, yeah. So where was the words?Okay, so I love this one turned on you. So my identity I so I had she had to go back to who my identity what what my identity is now is very similar to what it always has been from before so zero to four years old. I peg that for I don't actually know what age I was. But I was in between four and six. I'm fairly common. I was in between four and six, but seven to 11 kids I didn't really know or honestly I don't remember ever. Anybody feeling. I don't remember feeling love or attention or even real, beyond like bossing me around recognition that I was alive. That sounds terrible. And I'm not condemning anybody. That was my perception of what was going on. Okay, but I have an identity. I do remember not feeling valued and So my identity struggled. And then I went to my grandpa's house, we were taking a trip to the dump. We're driving home with little Ford Ranger pickup red Ford Ranger pickup windows down radio on our driving home. It's just him and I. And he reached over turns on the radio, puts his hand on my knee and says, Sam, you have a voice that's very pleasant to listen to. If you could be a leader one day, maybe even on the radio. And for whatever reason, I again, I don't know how old I was, but for whatever reason, internally, like there's a part of me that feels like I internally knew what it meant to have a radio voice and I was like, I'm better looking than that. I kind of took offense to it initially. Because I was like, what, but also, that was the first time I felt somebody loved me cared about me had recognized a gift inside of me. And so my whole lifethat's Since in my whole life but growing up, I had this identity of a leader that I was a leader and that people have a commanding voice and that people are gonna listen to me. So to produce one degree or another, I developed my voice into that presence. Along the way, though, it kind of got lost because I thought that I was protecting my family. When I had taken my mom, she was a stand pusher in the house, and I became the enforcer in the house. And so in my mind, I was protecting my family from greater abuse. And in their mind, I had become the abuser. And they were just describing me as they were as my mom. And so my identity wasn't really in question there was what came out was that how other people viewed me and my identity were a misalignment. And that's huge because so you can't see this on screen. But I have a viewer to draw this out. I'll explain to you I have a building that I now coach people on, and that is the bottom level is your legacy to answer this question, how do I want to be remembered into it? Two years from now, I want to be remembered as a leader, I want to be remembered as somebody who changes lives for the better helps them overcome anxiety, depression, suicide, domestic violence, have the confidence to get out of that. And second is your core values. So you have your, your legacy, how you want to be remembered, then you have your core values, and you could switch those around if you want to. I just think legacy for my structure makes sense. So you have your, like, I'm building like a Greek building here, just so you know. So you can draw it out, right? So I have legacy core values. My core values are candor, integrity, and gratitude. Be just insanely happy about whatever's going on in life and accept it as it is love it. And share love integrity, do what you say you're going to do when you say you're gonna do it. The reality about integrity. I'm going to quote Lewis house here and I love his concept here. It's like a straight line integrity is a straight line. Nobody has perfect integrity. Okay, nobody has perfect integrity. My objective is to cross that line as as often as possible. Okay. don't profess to be perfect or have perfect integrity. My goal is to cross the line of integrity as well as frequently as possible. Okay? So you're not so far off of one side. Yeah. So I'm not like way out of integrity somewhere. Like if I, if I screw up, let's get back online. And let's admit that I screwed up, you know. But the fact is, while I screwed up, I was out of integrity. That's one of my core values. So. So that's my commitment there with integrity and candor, I just say whatever the heck I want to say. And if you don't like it, I'm confident as coming from a position of love. Now, if you feel differently, that's unfortunate. Let's talk about it. I'm never here to hurt you. But I'm definitely here to speak and say, say my perspective. I'm not even saying my perspectives, right. But if I feel like somebody's limiting what I can say, then I don't feel in integrity. So then this is in misalignment. So I'm building my legacy of how I want to be remembered. I have my core values, then I have fulfillment, what really fulfills Sam and that's an important thing. I actually just came out with another journal talking about It's called the fulfillment journal. And in it you write down what are your three main objectives for the day? What are you grateful for? And then how are you going to experience fulfillment today? And who are you going to serve? And then at the end of the day, you journal about how did you experience fulfillment that day, maybe it was different than you thought. But again, my goal is to help you become a creator. So I hope they're my goal is that they're similar. And then the next section is in the future. How will you experience more fulfillment? Right, so you're projecting more positivity in the future, not saying that your fulfillment that you experienced was not good enough. It was it was fantastic, and how can I make it better in the future? So you're again reprogramming or hypnotizing, whatever you want to say, you're doing that to yourself? So that's fulfillment. fulfillment is what everybody's searching for happiness, fulfillment, peace, you can use a lot of different words to describe it. For me, it's fulfillment. Okay. And then you have it. That's the three layers. Then you have your pillars of your thing, your pillars, our faith. fitness, finance and fun in each of those areas, how do you experience fulfillment? And how are you actively engaged in those and, and these are building up my identity. So this, this is going somewhere. So, each of these pillars in that fulfillment journal, I have you write for 10 minutes, don't take your pen off the page. I mean, not saying you have to use cursor, you can take around the page, but write for 10 minutes on each of those sections, what fulfills you that month? And then scheduling how you're going to experience fulfillment on a daily basis. But are those that are those goals? And those ways? Who fulfilment are they in alignment with your how you want to be remembered? Are they in alignment with your core values? Are they in alignment with how you experience fulfillment? If they are great? If they're not, then you're out of alignment with your identity, in my perspective, my coaching, okay, and I want you to be living in more of your truth in alignment. Now, the question is, how do you test if you're in alignment?Based on a feeling I guess, right You think but no. Because what's the again, the in the chi as I'm the ultimate goal is fulfillment, okay? But also there's a legacy. So in a chasm, you start in one place, you go up to the ultimate important thing, and then you go back out to a similar thing in the chasms. So like in Christ, you have Christ repentance, or you have faith, repentance, baptism, or whatever, and then Christ and then what does baptism create in your life? What changes state change does it create? What does repentance do? And why should we have faith? Right? So it kind of goes out back into the same principle? Well, the way you test if your leg if you're actually living your legacy is if people see that you're actually living your legacy. Right? If there's there has to be some level of accountability. somebody's calling you calling you and saying, Hey, what did you accomplish? Where are you going? Are you getting closer to your legacy or not? Right? And so the the capstone of this building is what are my results? How our lives actually being changed, and how am I being perceived in the world? Because you can't live your life one way and say, Oh, my legacy is going to be this charitable person, but you're living a life of non charity, you're living a life of selfishness. But when you die, you hope people remember this selfless charitable person. It's out of alignment. So, so this is my building that I built for people and help them walk through the steps to build for me, I had to do that with first identifying how do I want to be remembered? And second, who am I? What am my core values more than anything? To do that really effectively, you have to let go of your ego, you have to let go of judgment. You have to let go of everybody, your wife, your kids or like, family is not the most important thing to you. But family's important to me. I'm not saying family's not important. But candor, integrity, and gratitude, way more important than family to me. They don't have to be that to you. But like, for me, you have to be willing to say no judgement. I don't care. Like if you think that the fact that God's not more important to me than me being able to be honest with myself. Like, I don't care what you think about that, I have to be able to get to that point where I can be honest with what my core values are. And I have to be honest with what actually fulfills me, and not somebody else's perspective, what should fulfill me if you're fulfilled by video games, and your wife thinks that you should be fulfilled by spending time with her. If you put spending time with her fulfills you, but inside you know, it doesn't fulfill you, then you're being a liar. You're you can't be in alignment in that situation. So for me, being brutally honest with myself in those scenarios was important. So let me get back to the story. I'm sitting there with my brother, while he's wrestled me down to the ground at this point, because he heard me controlling one last sentence What happened? So he came in wrestle me down and said, after he, after I stopped fighting, and he had helped me down there for long enough. And he said, Look, Sam, this is how people feel. This is their experience of you. They feel this emotionally and energetically restricted when you walk into a room. While he's holding me to where I can't physically move now, so what? I'm your Savior, I'm helping you I'm doing right because my identity was so one of love and service, and now it's being rejected. The heck this isn't right. And that, but as I started to see the effects of what I had done, I completely changed like that one experience completely changed the way I operate in the world entirely. What's interesting is, even though it took me I mean, years of kind of oppressive leadership in my house, I would say within months of every time I asked somebody to do something, I said, Look, I want one. Well, a few things. One, I'm not going to ask you to do something that doesn't need to be done. Fair enough. I know I'd be out right? Because nobody believes you right after you're an oppressor. Nobody believes you're a nice guy. Just FYI, change doesn't happen overnight might happen inside of you, but other people actually it used to change. So so one moment ask you to do something that doesn't need to be done. If I asked you to do it, you can say, No, I won't beat you up, I won't force you to do it. If you say no to me, okay, I need you to know that they didn't believe me the first little bit, but after they had some experience, then they believe me. And and three, if if I asked you to do something, and you say, No, I will get up immediately and go do it. Because I'm only asking you to do it because it needs to be done.So again, I had to realign with myself with leadership with understanding what I like, what role I was playing, and getting back to my identity as a leader. And when I did that, it took a few months, but then, rather than me having to ask people to do stuff all the time, they would volunteer. They would say, I can do this right, because it changed the motivation from fear to love. And I believe identity is love. I don't care who you are. I don't generally say this, but because I think it's important for you to identify Find yourself. But I believe that everybody's identity is love. God is love. Okay, she believed the scriptures taken literally for a second. God is love. We are God, we are all in one, he's in us, we're in Him, we are all love, the very act of anything short of love towards yourself or someone else is a breaching of that, that identity and you no longer get to live in love. And so when I change that, I just love people and there was a lot more compassionate, more understanding. So that's why I say my identity is the fuel your legacy nine pillars to build a meaningful legacy. It goes through the nine pillars, which one is like haters, your supporters, your team, your country, your faith, all these different nine them, I forget what they are, but they're just journaling aspect. So there's some anecdotal information there but then the journaling aspect These three questions. Who are those people? Who are your haters? Who are the people who love you? Who are the people who support you? Who are your team? Right? Who are they? How will their life be better? If you live in alignment to your true self? that's crucial, especially when you're talking about your haters, because they're like, why would I want to benefit them? Because they are part of you. If you are all love, you ship you helping them heal themselves is ultimately you helping heal you. If you're part of love, that's my perspective. And so, how is your life gonna be better? And then what can you do today to move towards that ideal? It's something you do multiple times, not like you do it once and you're done. It's a constant meditation of how, how will my actions affect other people for the better if I choose to live in alignment with myself? Rather than focusing on all the things they're going to say that about me? How is this going to benefit them if I can get Give them the confidence. Hey, look, I know Sam, I know he's not perfect. I know, he sometimes doubts himself, but he went and accomplished this great thing. I probably could do it too, right? That's the best case scenario of you being a leader and sticking your head up, and doing something that's unpopular, that people aren't going to like or whatever. And they're gonna like it because they don't believe that they can do it. And the more that they don't believe that they can do it, the more reason you have to go show them that they can, from a place of love and compassion, to help them believe in themselves, not to prove them wrong, not to rub it in their note their face or whatever. It's the motivation of, if I can do this, then you can do it. So even though you don't believe in me, that's fine. I'm going to go show you that as possible so that you can believe in yourself a little bit more. Wow. And all that started because when you were four to six, somebody put their hand on your knee and said you can become you have a good voice, you're gonna voice in your ear later and I was committed. I'm gonna be a public speaker. I'm gonna be a public speaker. And along the way, guess what people told me No, that's terrible. Like, you're always gonna be on the road, your family won't be with you. They took all the things in the book. And so that's why I switched from being a public speaker to a one on one speaker and psychology. And then I was like, I don't really like this as much. I want to be a public speaker, because there's a little bit thing about Sam. He does have an ego, and he does like being recognized. And he does love hearing people share his name. It's great. And I'm not ashamed of it. You know, like, I wish that you could experience the same joy. I feel up on the stage, right? So I'm not ashamed of who I am. There's an aspect of me that likes that. And so, and I'm okay with it. It's not this. I don't think it's purely a self aggrandizing thing. But it sure is awesome. And until you do it, you won't ever know how awesome it is. So don't knock it till you try it.I've been on stage in like six weeks now. And it's like,I know it's weird. Yeah, I gotta entertain somebody. Yeah. So says that's a great question. Strome Business Minute with Dr. Jeff Tanner

The Dow hit twenty eight thousand last Friday and the stock that has contributed the most to the run-up since last July is Apple. Just FYI, I sold my stake in Apple and missed most of this run-up. Apple has contributed forty-two percent of the last one thousand points. The increase is due to the strong sales of the iPhone Eleven and robust sales of Apple services. JP Morgan and United Technologies are up more than thirteen percent in the same period. At least I have some JP Morgan. Even Boeing is up, though only three point six percent. The American consumer is fueling a strong economy, with retail sales revised up in October. Barring trade war disaster, this market could continue to grow.

The Book of Night Women is a sweeping, startling novel, a true tour de force of both voice and storytelling. It is the story of Lilith, born into slavery on a Jamaican sugar plantation at the end of the eighteenth century. Even at her birth, the slave women around her recognize a dark power that they and she will come to both revere and fear.  The Night Women, as they call themselves, have long been plotting a slave revolt, and as Lilith comes of age and reveals the extent of her power, they see her as the key to their plans. But when she begins to understand her own feelings and desires and identity, Lilith starts to push at the edges of what is imaginable for the life of a slave woman in Jamaica, and risks becoming the conspiracy's weak link.  Lilith's story overflows with high drama and heartbreak, and life on the plantation is rife with dangerous secrets, unspoken jealousies, inhuman violence, and very human emotion between slave and master, between slave and overseer, and among the slaves themselves. Lilith finds herself at the heart of it all. And all of it told in one of the boldest literary voices to grace the page recently--and the secret of that voice is one of the book's most intriguing mysteries.  give it a'listen SPOILER ALERT: we loved this book! Make sure to follow my hashtag #90DaysofDesign to cheer on fellow artists.⠀         TRANSCRIPT Speaker 1: 00:01 Guess what starts today? Okay, so I'm actually going to get to that in just a second. But first I want to ask you a serious question. Do you really think you stand a chance as a designer or an artist or a creative who's really making it? If people don't recognize your style? I guess I'm asking you, do you have a style? What exactly is your signature? What does your voice sound like? What is your aesthetic look like? I'll be real with you. When it comes to daily routines, I'm literally the worst. And I found myself in this situation where I was leaving my full time job back in January and I was kind of scrambling because I was like, Oh God, like I don't have my own style. What is my style, what is my style? And it's because I didn't really put in the work to starting to develop my own style before I went out as an independent artist. Speaker 1: 01:00 Right. And part of that was because of the situation. You know, I, my husband proposed to me and then all of a sudden we were moving to Alabama and my current job wanted me to continue working full time remotely for a while and I was also planning a wedding. So like on top of all that, I don't really have a lot of time to discover my in develop my own art style, but how'd I started, you know, years ago then I would have been well on my way to recognizing my own style, you know, my, my Instagram would've looked cohesive, etc. Etc. So the point is one of the most important things you can do as an artist is developing your own art style. And that's why I'm hosting a 90 day art style challenge that goes all summer. So it's awesome because it's a summer challenge and I'll be sharing daily prompts in my Instagram stories and in the design tribe Facebook group for the next 90 days. Speaker 1: 02:02 So if you're not a member of the design tribe Facebook group, go over to Facebook. You can type in the URL, facebook.com/groups/design tribe, Lauren, Leslie, Leslie is with an e, y as I've mentioned, and you'll be asked a few questions just to make sure that you actually are a creative and make sure it's a good fit. But I'm just fill out those questions. I am not going to accept anyone who doesn't answer that questions y'all. So you have to answer the questions, um, and joined the group and basically it's going to be so amazing because everyone's going to be posting their 90 day project and you're going to use the hashtag 90 days of design. And in the Facebook group I'll be posting and daily prompts, um, I'll, I'll put it out every Saturday. Yay. Sabado Sabato but I'll, yeah, I'll be putting out the prompts every Saturday and there'll be daily prompts. Speaker 1: 03:03 And seriously, if you know you're overwhelmed one day and you're like, oh, I can't get to my art style challenge, it's okay. Like, no one's going to die. It's going to be fine. And I'm sure I'm going to have those days as well. Just Fyi, I'm not the most disciplined person in the world, but I had to get my act together because I was showing my designs and collections at blueprint, which happened two weeks ago. So yay. So I had my very first exhibit, um, and I, you know, exhibited at this show and it was really awesome. And basically I was like, you know, starting in, starting February 1st I was like, crap, I'm showing, I'm showing my work at the show, but I don't even have a style. I don't have any work. What am I going to do? And instead, so usually when you're under the gun like that and under a bit of pressure, you're able to figure it out and just pull it off. Speaker 1: 03:56 And that's what I did. And that's also kind of, you know, it was my inspiration to create this challenge because I was like, holy crap. Like I was able to create my own style in 90 days. Now is it the best style in the world? No, but it's mine and I like it. It's going to continue to develop and get better and progress. The more, um, the more art I make and the more challenges I do. So 90 days is like really the perfect amount of time to accomplish anything you set your mind to. Quarterly goals are so attainable, seriously, their bite sized, you know, it's not like an annual goal where we were like, Oh yes I have the whole year to accomplish this and you know, it's going to get done eventually. No like you have 90 days, this is happening now. So it's totally in your reach but you also have enough time throughout 90 days to really make some serious change. Speaker 1: 04:49 And that's what I love about this art style challenge is that it is three months. You know, it's not going to take you all year. It's not like a commitment like a four year art school or something like that, but it is enough time for you to make some serious change and some serious progress in your work. And that's what I'm super excited to see. Um, and look, I totally failed at starting the 100 days project. Like, so, you know, I mean, I, I hesitate to even join some of these challenges sometimes because I'm like, oh, I'm not going to be able to do it. I'm not going to be able to finish. I'm totally gonna feel like a failure and I'm here to tell you that I'm making this an evergreen challenge so that you don't feel that way. You are here to, you know, do as much or as little as you are able to. Speaker 1: 05:36 I realized that everyone's schedules are different. Some of you have kids, I don't have kids and I'm still gonna like fail a day here and there at this challenge. So it is okay. I promise. Um, you know, it's, it's going to be evergreen so you can literally do it prompt by prompt by prompt and if it takes you longer than 90 days, that's totally cool because hey, you're still doing the work. Um, I'm just making it a 90 day challenge because that is what I did in getting ready for blueprints show in New York. Um, but my first trade show and it really did work. Okay. Okay. So 90 days is just a great schedule and I am going to be keeping with the schedule just to keep everyone motivated and to kind of keep the group together. But if you need to go at your own pace, it's totally cool. Speaker 1: 06:25 Just go back to the Facebook group, you know, go prompt by prompt. And I'm also going to be sharing these prompts every Saturday in my email list. So if you're not a part of my email list, then you will want to go ahead and sign up for that. Um, and you'll do that by just joining the Facebook group already. And if you're not part of my email list or you're not getting my emails for some reason, just shoot me a private message and I'll gladly add you. So yes, that is pretty much it. I don't have a guest on today. I just wanted to tell you about the art style challenge that's going to be happening all summer long and I want you to join and it's going to be amazing and mixture to use the hashtag 90 days of design and tag me at Lauren Leslie Studio. Speaker 1: 07:11 I'm on Instagram because I'll be sharing my favorites and my Instagram stories as well. And I want to encourage you to also follow the Hashtag cause you know how you can follow hashtags on Instagram now. So follow the Hashtag 90 days of design. 90 is literally the numbers, nine zero days of design. And because I want to encourage you to share each other's works as well. That's how you gain exposure, right? If one person shares my work to their audience and you know, 10% of their audience follows me, then that's amazing, right? And if five people shared my work, then that would be a 50 new followers, you know, so it just, I wanna encourage you guys to share each other's work. I'm going to be sharing your work, but you guys share each other as well. Um, because it's just a really great way to promote each other and give back and just encourage each other and make friends. Speaker 1: 08:08 Right? Um, but you do want to ask people if it's okay. Um, you can, you know, you could put it in your stories that you're happy to share. If people respond to your stories so that way you don't have to go in and DM like a million different people. But that way people can respond to your story and then you can just share your favorite um, piece from their feed just like that. So it's a great way to share works and get exposure. And guys, if you do this art challenge, you are going to have your own art style in 90 days or less. I mean, sometimes it happens really quick once you really commit to making them this amount of work and you're just, you're never going to find your art style if you can't commit to making the work. And like I said, if you miss a day is okay, it fine. Speaker 1: 08:55 You are not a failure but you still have to do the work. Okay, you have to get up the next morning and do it the next day or stay up a little bit later, you know, 30 minutes later or draw something on your lunch break. You know, you have to commit to doing the work and just find a way to do it and prioritize it. So that you can have your own art style, because we all want to be like famous in our own field, right? Like now, like Hollywood famous. But you know, we want to be, we want to do a good job. We want, um, we want to be the best that we can be, um, and have that rewarding feeling. So anyway, thank you guys for tuning in. I will catch you in the next episode. Bye.

After MANY, MANY technical difficulties, our last episode covering the "Heart of the Crystal Gems" Steven bomb is here! Just FYI, this episode was supposed to be up about 3 days ago. The first half was recorded and the second half was deleted by our recording program...twice! But now it finally exists, and is as seamless as I could manage. I don't know how to express our excitement over THE FIRST GAY WEDDING/KISS ON A KID'S CARTOON SHOW in HISTORY, so you'll just have to listen to all we have to say about it. ;)

This is Lauren with Lauren Lesley Studio and today we're going to be talking about why every designer needs an email list. Now you may be thinking, what is an email list and why does it matter? And if you're wondering that you are in the right place. Today we're going to go over why you need an email list in the first place. Why an email is different from social media, how to choose a provider and how to get subscribers on your list and how to craft your newsletter. Speaker 1:                    00:35               So the problem with social media, okay, so although social media is very important to growing your business online, you don't own it. So a few years ago, every business was trying to get as many people as possible to like their facebook page because then they would show up naturally in their facebook newsfeed. Well, facebook decided to change their algorithm because they own facebook, you don't. And now business page or pages are basically dead. So business has spent all this energy, all this money marketing, um, and everything trying to get people to like their facebook page. And then in the end, it didn't really make a whole lot of sense. It was totally useless because they didn't actually own all of these likes. I mean, facebook was, could just change it at any minute. Um, another reason why social media is a little bit harder than email is because it's difficult to contact your tribe directly if you're putting a ton of energy and a ton of money into social media, uh, especially a platform like facebook or instagram, you just Kinda have to cross your fingers and say a little prayer and hope people see your stuff in their feed. Speaker 1:                    01:55               Like what if they're not on their feed that day or they're, you're posting at the wrong time or you're posting at a time where there's too much competition. So it's difficult to contact your customers or get your leads directly. Speaker 1:                    02:12               Email lists, on the other hand, bomp bomp bomp allow you to contact your customers and leads directly in their inbox. So it's intimate. Um, you're contacting them directly on social. You're posting for the whole wide world. So that means something to your potential leads or customers. I'm a thoughtful email is a lot. It's just, it's more intimate, it's like chatting with a good friend and it's intentional, you know that someone sat down and crafted this email very intentionally where sometimes social just kind of looks like, Oh, here's a pretty picture. Hope you like it, you know? Cool. Also email subscribers are way more likely to become customers and existing customers are more likely to become repeat customers. Can I get a hell yeah?! Also with email lists, conversion rates are high. According to opt in monster article on May 29th, 2018. So this is very recently guys, there are 2.6 billion - billion with a b email - users versus 1.7 billion facebook users. So email is pretty much like double, Speaker 2:                    03:29               um, Speaker 1:                    03:31               the amount of facebook users are. So you just have a bigger audience to work with in the first place. Not everyone is on facebook. My cousin who's in his twenties is not on facebook. My fiance, who's, you know, 35 has a facebook account, but he literally never ever, ever, ever logs in. Unless I tell him, hey, you need to go contact this person or there's an event we're going to, you need to respond to. Some people just aren't that active on facebook, but everyone is on email for 58 percent of people email us their first check of the day so they may wake up and grab their phone and immediately what do they do? Look at their email or maybe they have breakfast, have their coffee drive to work, and then what do they do? They look at their email first thing, Speaker 2:                    04:20               um, Speaker 1:                    04:22               and only, I mean that's versus only 11 percent of people who look at facebook first part of the day. Um, and you also have to take into account different age groups, like what's your target audience? This and that. I'm someone checking facebook first thing in the day. They may be out on school break or may not have, you know, a huge to do list that day. So that kind of factors into also who you're trying to target. Okay. So 77 percent of people find promotional material acceptable in email. What that means, Hey, if you're sending a promotion, people aren't gonna be offended if you send them an email about it. They're like, yeah, that's cool. That's what email is for. This is where I want to look up sales and coupons and deals. Like I don't want to see it on my social media feed. I'm only four percent of people find it acceptable to see promotional material on facebook that's supposed to be this intimate time for their friends and family. That's what facebook was originally. It was supposed to be connecting with first your college friends. Um, and then it kind of extended and it's more of your family now and whatever, but that's opposed to be social. It's not supposed to be where you're shopping. Like you don't want to get on facebook to shop. Um, you want to get on facebook to see who had acute new baby or um, you know, who went to the beach last weekend. Speaker 2:                    05:51               Um, Speaker 1:                    05:53               so emails deliver an excellent Roi which is return on investment for those of you who might not know, um, which has 21 percent of the time versus a facebook and twitter ads are about 15 percent Roi. So get this guys, 66 percent of consumers have made a purchase because of a promo email. How cool is that? Sixty six percent. I think that's pretty good. Uh, versus only 20 percent has made a purchase based on a facebook promotion. So that Kinda shows you, hey, like people are kind of turned off by seeing, you know, promotions and ads on their facebook newsfeed. They're kind of like, Ugh, gross. Like I don't want to see that here. Um, but you know, in their email it's totally acceptable. Speaker 1:                    06:45               Email reaches 79 percent of the people you send it to 'em and this is the average global inbox placement rate. Just Fyi, facebook's organic reach. Get this guys, this is crazy. It's declined to about one to six percent, one to six percent. How crazy is that? What does Mark Zuckerberg doing? I mean, really, really? So you put all this effort and energy into, you know, posting something on facebook or instagram and facebook's organic reach, like they're literally, they're trying to force people to buy ads so that your stuff even get seen, which is crazy. Like they should not, I mean in my opinion, and this is my opinion, but I don't think they, I understand they have to get paid. Okay? Like, yes, everyone has to get paid, totally get that, but it's just not fair. It's just not fair to, you know, basically fuck with the algorithm that much to try to force people into paying for ads just to be seen on facebook. Speaker 1:                    07:47               Like, Hey, facebook, guess what? You're not that important email as a way better. I'm a statistics than and reach and effectiveness than you do. And so you're only hurting yourself. You're only hurting yourself. Facebook declining the organic reach, you know, maybe you could say, oh, ads have a boost that organic reach doesn't, but don't fuck with it and make it, you know, totally obsolete. That's just not cool. Like, no one's going to be on a platform if they can't, um, you know, share the cool things that they're doing. Um, yeah, so that means if you're, your pays, blah, blah, blah, I can't talk. That means if you're posting on facebook, only one to six percent of your facebook fans will actually see your posts, which really totally blows. So the bottom line is email has far greater reach than social media if you couldn't figure that out already. Speaker 1:                    08:47               So you're probably thinking, how do I get started? Well, I'm glad you asked. I'm here to tell you. So the first thing you want to do is choose an email service provider and I'm going to recommend three different options for you guys. So the first one is convert kit. Now I can't personally recommend convertkit because I've never used it, but I hear people rave about it all the time. So it may be one that you want to look into. Some of the pros are that it allows you to tag customers so that you can target them more effectively. And bloggers love it. Um, it's really helpful for small businesses and um, and sending like a content upgrades for your blog posts. It's easy to send those downloads and that kind of thing. Uh, some of the cons are it's $29 a month for the bottom tier guys. Speaker 1:                    09:40               So they have zero freemium option. There's no free option for if you're just starting out and it's not the most user friendly in the beginning. Um, I've heard people complain that, you know, um, they had a little bit of a hard time figuring out at first it's not as intuitive starting out, uh, the next email service provider that you could work with is mailchimp. Now, some of the pros of mailchimp is it's free for your first 2000 subscribers. That's pretty cool. I mean, you got to get mail chimp credit for this. Um, it's only $10 a month after that and then the tiers kind of increased from there. And one of the reasons I like mailchimp is because it easily integrates with squarespace. So I use squarespace for my, um, my website. And so mailchimp really easily integrates with them. So it's just like smooth sailing to collect emails from using mailchimp. Speaker 1:                    10:40               Um, and one little other pro is, it's an Atlanta guy, so like come on, we have to support them a little bit. Um, okay. So some of the cons, I will be honest about the cons. Uh, it's, there's no tagging. They have like groups in segmentation, but honestly like it's, it's very hard to, for me at least to figure out, I don't find that very user friendly or easy to manage. And I have heart. I've heard other bloggers complain, um, and really not recommend mailchimp because once they have a really large list, the functionality is not great. So that's something that also think about. They're like, hey, if I could have started with convert kit and I would've saved myself this huge headache once my list kind of exploded because then they had to go back and fix everything and like Redo a lot of their sequences and whatnot. Speaker 1:                    11:32               So that is just word on the street. And then the other Ma, a mail service provider that I do very much recommend and I have used them is mailer lite. Um, they are also free for your first 1000 subscribers, so it's not as many as mailchimp, but it's still great, like your first 1000 subscribers totally free. Um, and then after that it's only $10 a month as you incrementally increased here. So like for the first 1001 to 2,500 subscribers, it's only an extra, it's only $10. And then the next tier is only $20, et cetera. Um, so just as your subscribers increase, your fees increase. Um, the really awesome thing about mailerlite as well is that you can tag your lists to send more targeted emails. So let's say for example, um, as a designer, I, I work with a lot of real estate agents and I also work with bloggers I work with, um, I worked with like financial advisors, et Cetera. Speaker 1:                    12:37               So I might not want to send the same emails to my real estate agent customers as I do to my bloggers because they might have totally different needs and I might even be telling them about a product. Like I came out with this really awesome product. I'm God the real estate portrait Creator and it basically allows you to pick and choose some pre made options, literally over 70 faces and I'm adding more guys like if this is like a mega pack, awesome. 14 different houses and scenery. There's male realtors, there's female realtors on and on and on, different outfits. Um, and anyway, I would want to let my real estate customers know about that, but if I send an email to my entire list, then my, you know, blogger, customers are going to be like, I'm not a real estate agent. Why is she sending me this? Speaker 1:                    13:31               Like this is annoying. So like tagging your list is, is important. So that's the really awesome thing about mailer lite. I love them and I do use them in conjunction with mailchimp. The only con I can see so far is that it doesn't directly integrate with squarespace, which is the website I use, website hosting. I use and I think you can get around this with I'm doing a Zapier, a doing a zap, um, and it Kinda. Zapier basically connects different apps together. Um, and I tried to do that with mailer lite and I wasn't successful then I just kind of gave up because I didn't have time to spend hours trying to get it to work. So anyway, I'm still using mailchimp and as I'm a, I'm just in order to basically, uh, remember what customers are who are signing up for my email list. I'm just creating different lists in mail champs so I just have so many different lists in mailchimp. So eventually I can bring those over to mailer lite and just tag them. Um, and then I can target my audience really easily. Okay. So Speaker 1:                    14:42               after you choose a provider, convertkit, mailchimp, mailer lite, it's your choice. You have to decide what's best for you. I'm, you're gonna want to create a list for your email subscribers and you could just do like a basic one for now if you just have something very generic like a blog post that has, um, I dunno, organization tips or something that could be useful for anyone. Um, you could just make a subscriber's list will do for now. And then the next thing you want to do is you want to create newsletter signups all over your website. Now you want them to be strategically placed so that they're not too annoying, but at the same time like you want it to be seen. I feel like as as um, designers especially, but as any creative entrepreneur, we'd get a little bit nervous about, you know, annoying people, we don't want to annoy people, but I find that there's a healthy balance between pushing yourself a little bit out of your comfort zone and feel like you're being a little bit annoying. Speaker 1:                    15:44               That's probably the right amount because honestly guys, like people just get bombarded with everything. Email, social media, whatever everyday. So if you just send or you know, like anyway, you get the point, you do need them all over your website or nobody's going to see them and nobody's going to sign up. I'm so you're going to feel like slightly annoying probably if this is new to you, but don't worry about it, you're really not. And that's, you know, that's the way people are going to sign up if they want to. If they don't, they won't. Um, so you'll kind of be able to see if it's working or not. And so you may be thinking, well, okay, so I put these all over my website, but what if no one signs up? Okay, so sometimes you do have to entice people to give you their email address. Speaker 1:                    16:34               Why would they just, you know, people get bombarded with emails every day, so they're going to be a little bit hesitant, but what you can do, and this is a strategy that tons of people use and it's very highly effective. I'm offer a crazy, awesome freebie in exchange for their email address. Now, sometimes this feels like you're working for free, but if you can see the longterm picture, it's really totally worth it because you need leads coming into your business every single day. So you need to offer a really crazy, awesome Freebie, something that would probably you would normally charge for, but you just do the work once and people get to download it. It needs to be something downloadable. You don't want to sound like a hat because then you have to like pay for shipping every time someone gives you their email address, so you don't need to do that. Speaker 1:                    17:24               You just need to spend a few hours and create a really valuable pdf checklist. Um, she, she, um, as a designer I have offered for free real estate logos, so that's something that, uh, is really great for people that are just starting out and I hope I can help them out with that. Um, and then I hope they also see like maybe once they start earning some good money, they get some commissions, then maybe they want to come back and get kind of the full branding package, um, instead of just like a little house icon logo. Um, but that's a great starting point for my real estate agent customers. Okay. So you'll see here an example of my for, for your real estate logos, and the button says, give me for free logos and so they have to click on it and then enter in their name and email address. Speaker 1:                    18:18               Now, uh, this new law recently went into effect, uh, the GDPR, which I'm sure you got a million emails about, but you need to make sure every email signup that you have on your website is gdpr compliance. Uh, this is important, so it's not that hard. It's not that big of a deal, but what you do need is a privacy policy on your website and you can google, you know, how to do that for your business and just kind of like copy a template or something like that. Um, and then you need a disclaimer. Every time you ask for someone's email address, basically you just need transparency and telling them what you're doing. And so my disclaimer says, by signing up for this freebie offer, you agree to join our email list and receive occasional updates, we will never give your information to a third party and you can unsubscribe at anytime. Speaker 1:                    19:09               Please read our privacy policy here and I have a hyperlink to have my privacy policy so that everything is very clear and transparent. Um, and then if you're using mailchimp, I'm especially, you can do a double opt in, which is an even kind of an extra safety check. So you know, when people do sign up with your to get your free offer, your Freebie, they have to double opt in, which can sometimes be annoying because sometimes it goes to their junk folder and they don't see it and then they never get their freebie and are kind of wondering what happened. But you can try to follow up with those people, especially in the beginning. Speaker 1:                    19:46               Here is also an example of my landing page. So when you first go to my website, you'll see, um, what's up fool. I'm Lauren, Leslie, portrait, illustrator and designer. And then the very next thing you see at the bottom of the landing page is grab your free surprise and I'm asking for their first name and email address. So you know, people might not do that right away, but there is a little trick in sales that says people have to see things seven times before they buy. And I would be willing to bet the same thing is true with giving you their email address, so you just want to kind of make it very easy for them to sign up for your email address and put it all over your website. Okay. So the next thing you want to do is write a freaking email. It's gonna be weird. Speaker 1:                    20:33               At first it was weird for me. I didn't know what to say. I just was kind of blabbing on and then I was telling people about my new products and a few people on subscribed, which is always disappointing. But now I feel like I'm in a much better rhythm and I'm telling people that they actually want to hear about. Um, and I feel like I've really gotten comfortable with my own voice when I'm writing emails. Um, instead of sounding too quote unquote professional or Stoic, you know, you want to really put your personality in your emails, but the only way to get to that point is to start. So you just have to start somewhere. Don't worry about it, don't stress about it. And don't worry if people unsubscribe because new people are going to start subscribing everyday. Hopefully once you get that really awesome freebie up. Speaker 1:                    21:21               Okay? So your subscribers obviously signed up your email list for a reason. They love you and they want to hear from you and you don't want them to forget about you. So you know, if you, I mean, how many times have you gone to, you know, pinterest and then you ended up on some blog and it maybe it was a cool recipe or maybe it was something and you ended up subscribing for their email list, but then you never heard from them again and you totally forgot about them. But in contrast, maybe you did the same thing, but you hear from this person regularly and you were like, oh yeah, like if I need a recipe, I know I can go to this Vegan blog or whatever it is. Um, and it just like, Speaker 1:                    22:01               it just makes sure that you don't forget who they are. So you don't want your customers to forget about you. You spend a lot of time on this Freebie. Make sure that you are emailing them at least once a month. I would say like people say once a week, but at least once a month. I would email them when they first get their Freebie you want to send them, I would say three to four emails and you can space it out if you are scared about being annoying you, you could send the first email and then two to three days later a setup, a sequence where another email sends to them and then two to three days later another email sense to them and then you can kind of cool it and maybe email them once every week, two weeks, three weeks or once a month. But definitely keep emailing them because they're going to forget who you are if you don't and then you just wasted all this time and you know your potential lead is Kinda gone. Speaker 1:                    22:51               So you definitely want to do that. I'm not rules in next steps. I mean this is pretty obvious guys, but just don't spam people. I mean obviously that's probably the opposite of what you're thinking. You're probably scared to send an email in the first place because you don't want to seem spammy, but for those of you who are a little bit more ambitious, just, you know, don't spam the hell out of people like people hate that they're going to unsubscribe. Just bring value and be yourself and people will like getting your emails. That'll be fun. Oh, I'm going to be something they can kind of check when they're first getting out of bed or when they're sitting in a doctor's office kind of bored. Um, okay. So you. And then you want to set up an ongoing email sequence that's on autopilot so that way you're not having to like, scramble and Think, Oh my God, what am I going to email everyone this week? Speaker 1:                    23:43               You just want to set up a few at, I would say at least five to six initial emails just to get started. Um, and then you can tweak them later if you want to kind of change what they say or whatever. At first, do you want to thank them for signing up? Second, you want to give the full their freebie. They signed up for a reason, give them their Freebie, next, tell them your personal story. So we don't want to get personal all the time, like we don't want to be like, here's a picture of my dog today for like 30 days in a row because people are like, I don't, I don't get it. I don't care about your dog, like whatever. But if they are interested in something like getting a real estate logo from you or you're interested in their, um, recipes and maybe eventually you're going to buy their cookbook. Speaker 1:                    24:28               They want to know your personal story. They want to know who they're buying from and they want to really be able to connect with you. So share with them. Everyone has a story and everyone has been through something really shitty in their life but hopefully has a positive outlook on it. I mean, for me, like when I tell my personal story in my emails sequence, I want people to know, you know, that I'm not perfect and I'm not. I don't have this perfect life. Like my dad took his own life when I was six years old. And that really sucked, you know, and it still sucks, but I was really able to like dive into my art and in a way I think that my creativity kind of saved me. It was my strength, it gave me strength. Um, and then I kind of talk about, you know, my steps in my career, you know, how I was an art major in school. Speaker 1:                    25:17               And then I had my first job as a t shirt designer. I decided I wanted to do graphic design and not fine art full time. So that's what I did. And then, you know, that wasn't really a great fit. So I got my first or my second big girl job. I say my big girl job as a textile designer at a home decor company in Atlanta. And that's when I finally got to kind of say peace out Spartanburg, Spartanburg. It's my home. But I mean it just wasn't a good fit for me long term in terms if I want it to be a designer. Like I would have not been able to progress like I have in a big city like Atlanta. So that was just such a better fit for me and I'm so I really flourished here in Atlanta, so that's something that I tell my customers and they love it. Speaker 1:                    26:04               Like I've had people respond and be like, wow, thanks for telling me this like, and it hopefully makes them want to do business with me because they know that I'm a real person and I have struggles, but I also have successes and we're more alike than we are different. Um, so another idea for an email in your sequence is to share your best resources and tools. So if you use a program like a sauna or Trello, you can say how wonderful it is at project management. It helps you play in your blog posts or whatever your projects are in your business. You can talk about that. Um, you can talk about what kind of equipment you use, what books are you reading, if you have some cool business books that you're reading. I read entrepreneurial you by Dorie Clark who loved it, wrote a blog post about it. That's awesome. Um, recently read or I listened to the audio book, Anna Kendrick, scrappy little nobody. Oh my God, she's a freaking hilarious. You guys have to listen to her audio book. Don't read the book, listen to the audio book because she is so perfect in it and she's, her personality really comes through her voice and with her narrating the whole thing. It's just, it's pretty great. So that's another idea for your email list. Just share some cool resources and tools and like things that have inspired you in your business lately. Speaker 1:                    27:24               And then, um, at the end of your email sequence you can offer our prayer a, sorry, a paid product that is relevant to the Freebie that they wanted. So like my example of the real estate agents I'm giving for free real estate logos. But what I can do at the end of my sequence is say, hey, like I also have this paid product that's so much better than the four Fri logo. So like whenever you're interested, here it is. I hope you'll buy it Speaker 3:                    27:53               sometime at some point Speaker 1:                    27:56               and then you just want to make sure to remind them of how to find you on social. So I know this whole kind of videos about why email is so much better than social, but that's not to say that social isn't important. You still want to be able to connect with people on social. They want to be able to see your pictures. See that again, it's just another way for them to see that you are a real person for them to get inspired. It's just another point of contact. So while email is number one, you definitely also want to connect with your customers and leads on social, especially if they maybe a little hesitant to give you their email address. Maybe that's, you know, the second best thing you can do. Speaker 3:                    28:36               Um, Speaker 1:                    28:37               so, uh, I wanted to also let you guys know where to find me in case you ever want to work with me. My website is Lauren Leslie Dot Com a l a U R e n l e s l e y Dot Com. Lauren. Leslie Leslie as my middle name. I like the alliteration, that's why I chose it. It's a win win for you and me because with the affiliate links I can make a little bit of money, but still keep these videos totally free for you guys. So help us out. Speaker 1:                    29:19               Okay. So if you guys have any other ideas on why you love an email list or if you have any other email hosts, providers you want to recommend or any other ideas for an email sequence, please leave a comment in the notes below. My name is Steve Larsen, and welcome to Sales Funnel Radio. What's up guys? I'm super excited for you to be here. This is going to be a massive treat for you. I've got to tell you, the topic we're going to go through today and frankly the person that I've brought on today, at first this topic I discredited just a little bit. I'm not going to lie, which is shame on me, poopoo on me, right, but I'm very excited for you guys to learn more about this. The longer I've been doing this game, the longer I've been part of this, the more I've looked at what this person's doing, it's just with sheer awe. I cannot believe everything that he gets done, and I'm very excited. I'm super honored, actually, to have him on the show. It's going to be great. Anyway, I want to welcome to the show, though, Mr. Josh Forti. How are you doing man? Josh Forti: Hey Steven. Good to be on here. Thanks so much for having me on. I appreciate it. Steve Larsen: I'm super excited. I was thinking right before you got on here, I was thinking through kind of the different times we've brushed shoulders. Josh Forti: Yeah. Steve Larsen: But not really actually spoke. You know, I know you came to the Viral Video launch. You had an invite for that for sure. I saw you over there taking pictures with Gary V., and I was exhausted by the time that event came up. I barely remember anything. Everything was hazy... Josh Forti: I got roasted by Gary V. at the Viral Video event. Steve Larsen: I remember that. He was standing right there. Josh Forti: Remember that? Steve Larsen: Yeah. He roasted you hard, man. Josh Forti: That's right. That's right. I think you handed me the microphone for that, too. Steve Larsen: Yep. Yeah. I had no idea we'd work this much together and have you on the show. Josh Forti: Who knew, who knew? Steve Larsen: Who knew? Yeah. And then it was really, right, we did that Mastermind together. Josh Forti: Yeah. Steve Larsen: And I heard you speak and I swear gold was just spraying everybody in the audience, just all over the place. I could not believe what you were saying. It was amazing. It was incredible. This whole other side of the funnel where the person is the funnel and really diving into personal branding. You're clearly, in my mind, I actually believe that you're like the foremost expert on personal brand creation. I'm just so honored to have you here... Josh Forti: Oh man, well I really appreciate, really appreciate that, and I don't know if I'm the number one, but I certainly try to be. Yeah, we've had a lot of fun with it. Steve Larsen: I'll say it for you. Josh Forti: Okay. You can say it for me. I like that. I like that. Yeah. We've had a lot of fun with it. Steve Larsen: Honestly, it was when we were standing outside right after that Mastermind and I saw not just that you were like, I mean, dude, you're very smart. You get a lot of stuff done. You're a go-getter and a hustler, but then also you're intent on helping the world. That's when I was like, man, I've got to get close to this guy. That wasn't long ago. That was like a month ago. Josh Forti: It feels like it. It was a little longer than that. I think it was, back in January. That was in Vegas. Steve Larsen: Oh, that's true. Josh Forti: Right? That's when that was. We spoke there. That's when we first officially met. We had brushed into each other like you said, but we officially met. We spoke on the same stage. I remember at the event someone was like, Steven Larsen's going to be speaking. I was like, well, if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me. So, I'm super happy that we got to meet up there and, yeah, form a friendship that eventually led to us speaking together again down at the Mastermind before Funnel Hacking Live. Steve Larsen: Oh, yeah, that's right. That's awesome. That's awesome. Yeah. You know, so for those in the audience who may not know who you are, how did you actually get into this, this area of personal branding? I think the area, like I've had such an issue with it just because I've not ever known really what it is. It seems a little bit fluffy and you're so clear on how to do it. How did you get into this? Josh Forti: That's a great question. So, actually I grew up through high school, I was home schooled and I grew up on a farm. I had no online presence at all. In fact, I wasn't even allowed to have texting on my phone until I was 18, so like really knew nothing. Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: I got into insurance. Long story short, dropped out of college, got into insurance sales and realized that the internet marketing space was this huge trend that a lot of these businesses that we were working with were totally missing out on. And so I went from there and I was like, man I've got to start studying this, so I started studying e-com and started studying all the different things and blue like several thousand dollars with no success, no results whatsoever. I was like, man, it can't be this hard. I mean, like I've got to figure out a way for me. How I started into it was I was just trying to figure out a way to grow an audience so that I could test like landing pages. Even if I was giving it away for free, I just wanted to be able to test it without having to pay for it... Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: And get the audience's response. Tell me what I was doing right, tell me what I was doing wrong so that I could service them better without having to pay thousands of dollars up front for not getting any results. So, I actually started on the Instagram platform. I thought that was, for me, the fastest way to like grow an audience. I didn't really understand Facebook at the time. We hear all the time, organic range on Facebook is dead... Not entirely true, but I started on the Instagram platform and played around with just some different accounts. I bought a course on it. I loved the Instagram game and I loved everything that was there. It is. It's a game. Steve Larsen: Sure. Josh Forti: Just finding the little trends and pieces there. I launched a company with a business partner of mine, and together we grew and managed several million followers on the Instagram platform. aCtually, it was just the beginning of last year we decided we had kind of different visions for the company. He wanted to go kind of more the agency route and specifically just servicing that, and I really wanted to help like people launch like Instagram accounts. I wanted to like give back the information that we had and like really help that and you know, different strokes for different folks. So he went one way and I ended up selling the agency that we had built to him. That allowed me a whole new world of opportunity. I was out on my own. I had contacts and I'd just sold a company. I went out and invested in a couple different coaches and some programs and really just dove into all things branding and social media. I read Expert Secrets and Dotcom Secrets and everything that Russell talks about and came up, and I'm only 24 years old right now, and so just studied and studied and worked and applied and worked and launched a Facebook group shortly before I sold my company, about, I don't know, six months or so before I sold the company out and have not run a single dime of paid traffic to it. It's about 18 months old. Steve Larsen: Wow. Josh Forti: We just hit 30,000 members in it. Steve Larsen: Holy crap. Josh Forti: Being able to use a lot of the tactics that Russell talks about in marketing with the attractive character and really being authentic with your audience and really going out there and showing them the behind the scenes, a lot of people are like, man, you know, you are authentic or you're showing them the good, the bad and the ugly, like they're never going to buy from you, right? Steve Larsen: Yeah. Josh Forti: And the thing is, we live in the world of experts, but we also live in the world of influencers, right? Like, you do need to be an expert at what you do, but you have to understand that if you have a single follower, you're more credible than the person without one, right? Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: And so if you're one step ahead of whatever it is that you're doing and you show them the good, the bad and the ugly, what that does is it builds trust, so people can go out. We live in an overwhelming world of information. I can go onto YouTube and figure out absolutely anything, so if you're full of crap, I'm eventually going to figure it out, so if you're lying to me, you know, I'm eventually going to see that, where if you just show, hey, this works, this doesn't, here's what we're doing over here, here's what we're doing over here, people love that and people eat it up because then they know that you're going to be honest with them. We've had so much success with that. In fact, I've done, this is a funny fact, two six-figure businesses now and I've never spent a single penny on paid advertising for either one of those. Steve Larsen: That's so cool. I mean, seriously man, congrats! That's incredible. Josh Forti: I appreciate that, man. Does that kind of give you a background there of everything? Steve Larsen: Yeah, yeah. Absolutely. I guess, when did you realize that you were getting it, you know what I mean? When did it start clicking? Josh Forti: Well, I must say, my parents always taught me to work hard. I grew up on a farm. I was homeschooled, and I have seven siblings, so you kind of partner all those things together and you realize you just kind of have to work hard in life. Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: I wouldn't say I felt ... I still don't know if I get it, Steven. Steve Larsen: Sure. I know we're all still getting it. Josh Forti: Yeah, yeah. I think that the point in my life where I understood that I got it was when I realized that I was willing to go learn and do above and beyond what everyone else was willing to go learn and do. When everybody else was out at the movies, and I have nothing against going out to the movies or taking a night off, but I spent two years of my life studying and going to conferences, seminars and things like that and when I came back and when I realized that just simply being around those type of people and just simply being immersed in that versus being immersed in say pop culture of like movies or music or whatever that thing was, you know more about that. For me, that was a really like a first step in the right direction for me because, I mean, we as an entrepreneurs, I really believe that we all, at some point or another, struggle with a lot of self-doubt. Steve Larsen: Yeah. Josh Forti: While I'm a very confident person in myself and what I can do, being around those type of people and realizing that, hey, I'm at least making actions and decisions that drive me in the direction that I want to get close to was an encouraging reminder to me. So that was kind of the first step in the right direction and then as far as like making it, what do you mean, like having it figured it out? Like, specifically when I thought I knew Instagram or when I thought I could do this or like what specifically? Steve Larsen: Sure, sure. I just like to ask that because we all kind of go a different route with it, which is kind of cool, but, yeah, really with Instagram, when you realized that like, oh my gosh, this personal branding thing like it's suddenly is clicking, you know. I see the path at least far enough where I can have results for the people and make money with it. Josh Forti: Yeah. I'm going to take us back to Funnel Hacking Live. Steve Larsen: Sure. Josh Forti: Remember when Russell was on stage and for those of you that weren't able to attend, uh, you missed out, but he was on stage, and on Friday he was talking about, and really, the whole theme of the conference was if you just follow a proven formula for success, you will be successful with it. Remember when he was talking about that? Steve Larsen: Oh, yeah. Josh Forti: Yeah. So, I think I realized that I had figured it out when I was first able to duplicate my results and so on Instagram I grew my first account to, I think it was 30,000 or 35,000 followers, and I got the idea that I was like, well, I did it once. I wonder if I could do it again. So, I do everything kind of over the top, so I went and opened like eight other accounts... Steve Larsen: Love it. Josh Forti: And tried to do it on eight different accounts and figured out the niches. I think five of them stuck, and so I had five or six accounts at this time and all of the sudden all of them were at 10,000 and then 15,000 and then 20,000 and then 30,000, and then I realized this is just a system. Like, it's a formula and when I realized that there was just a formula for growing accounts and a formula for growing social media, people often complicate it and they're like, oh, you know every platform's different, every platform's this. They are, and the content that you post on those platforms may be different types of content, but the concepts of social media, of the goals that you're trying to accomplish are all the same. Once I figured out that formula I knew I was set. I was like, there's nothing I can't do on social media now if I have either A) The time or B) The budget. If I have one of those two things, I can do anything. I think that's when I figured out that there was a proven formula that I could just duplicate over and over and it looks different for each account, looks different for each niche that you're in, but the formula of what you're trying to accomplish is the same. Steve Larsen: That's awesome. That's super powerful. It's powerful insight for sure. I just want to ask too, so, okay, you obviously are like me and you're constantly diving deep into the thing you're trying to be like the best at. You're constantly learning. I'm sure you're constantly moving as forward as fast as you can. Out of your own curiosity too. It's like no one's forcing you. I'm sure you're the same... When you were diving deep into this stuff and you start getting into social media, you get into personal branding, how did you choose what to learn and what not to learn? Josh Forti: Oh man. That is such a tough question. Steve Larsen: I know. Sorry. Josh Forti: No, no, no. This is really good. You know what's interesting is the reason that I got into personal branding I think is because of this question right here. Steve Larsen: Interesting. Josh Forti: Because you think about it and you go, who do we learn from? I look at the people that I modeled after. The only people that I followed were people that I wanted to become like because in my opinion and especially in the way of the world that we're going right now, if you're taking advice from people that are not doing what it is that you're trying to learn and you can't relate with what they're trying to do, why would you take advice from them. That's like the mentality that's going through my head at the time that I'm starting... Steve Larsen: I believe that. Josh Forti: And so as I looked back, like who did I model? I modeled after Russell Brunson. I modeled after Tai Lopez. I modeled after Gary Vaynerchuk. I modeled after Grant Cardone. Those are my four big top influencers in all of marketing right now. If you were to say, Josh, who are the top four? Those are them. What do they all have? They all have a personal brand. They've all gone out there and established what it is that they've done, and so, I think for me, I look at the person as who they are. Now, do I agree with everything Tai Lopez does? Absolutely not... Or Russell or Grant or whoever, but because they have elements in their business that I want to model after and I like who they are as a person in that area, I'm going to go and I'm going to learn from them. So, for me, I decide what I'm going to learn or not learn by actually studying what the person stands for and looking at the life that they have. I hardly ever buy, even like a lead magnet or download anything for free until I go out and actually study who that person is. And so I just got a book in the mail, Millionaire Success Habits by Dean I can't pronounce his last name. Steve Larsen: Graziosi. Josh Forti: Yeah. But I saw his ad probably 100 times before I bought his book. I finally sat down and was like, okay, who is this guy. I went and I looked at his brand and I looked at what he was and I looked at what he stood for and that's the power of personal branding. Everything that I do and everything, like if I choose to study someone or something or learn or not learn, I look at who they are as a person because I think that's really important to me. So, I got into personal branding for that matter because I was like, if someone's going to look at my content, whether it's a physical product, a digital product, free paid whatever, I want them to be able to come look back at me and know exactly what I stand for and if that aligns with what they are going to be doing then they are going to come learn from me and be up front about it. Having that personal brand, I mean, I can't tell you how many people I've asked and say, why do you use click funnels? The click funnel platform is awesome and I love it and it's so much fun, but a large majority of the people were like, I wasn't that interested in click funnels at the beginning. I was interested in Russell Brunson and then he showed me click funnels and it was like, oh my gosh! This is awesome... Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: But it was Russell that brought them in and that's the power of a personal brand, and I think that we really need to realize in the online space if you don't have a personal brand you're either on your way out or already dead. You're just becoming irrelevant after awhile. Steve Larsen: I completely believe what you just said right there. That's so true. As far as from a top level, I just want to ask a few questions here because you think of like, I mean, you service a lot of like these funnel builders of that community as well. You've helped a whole bunch of people like that. You've helped some massive individuals... Josh Forti: There's definitely been some Instagram touchpoints with some big, yeah, big influencers in that area as well as a lot of people in my inner circle and a lot of people in really all areas and all industries, yeah. Steve Larsen: You've been all over the place. You're very much, and what's interesting too, I mean, when I think about, like, what I do, right, I go through and I help people get their phone off the ground, their message, their offer and get that out the door and, yes, totally, I mean, you obviously don't need a personal brand to go get that off the ground, but the personal brand becomes this vehicle that just explodes and accelerates in this ridiculous way. I want to ask a little more how someone actually does that, but how do you define a personal brand? You know what I mean? Like, what do you even say that actually is? Josh Forti: Yeah. Yeah. So, summed up in a very short phrase I say, your business is what you do, your brand is what you stand for. Steve Larsen: Cool. Josh Forti: If you think about that, in the message of personal branding, we're shifting as a society and I think we really need to understand that while we still definitely have big corporations and big things like that, we're going very much to a freelance society, to an online marketing society and things like that and really you have to go make a name for yourself, and it's expected because it's so simple. I say that hesitantly, simple to do. Not easy, but the concepts there are simple. It's almost like required, like as a prerequisite... What I tell people is you want someone to be able to look at you and your profile and content online and know exactly what you do, what you stand for and how you're going to go about doing that because if I can't look at your profile and know not only what you do, but really like the vibe that you stand for and who you are as a human, I'm not near as likely trust you as if I know who you are and what you stand for, right. If you don't give me that information, like, yeah, you might be great at eCommerce, but if I don't know your personality, if I don't know if you get my agenda, there's so much information. People look for what they can relate to. And so if they don't understand what it is that you stand for or if you're relatable or not, then you don't have a very good chance of them buying from you. That personal brand is your message and your statement of what it is that you stand for and your statement of the type of person that you're trying to attract and sell to. Steve Larsen: Yeah. It's not really enough to just be, I mean, you can get by for a while just being amazing, but, I mean, after a while people want to know who you are as a person. It makes total sense. Okay. I've never heard it explained that way. How does somebody go about doing this? Obviously, they hire you... They give you a whole lot of money, which everyone should, but like what are the most important parts of this? I know we can take it to the enth degree, but I mean, is there like a base level someone should at least have? Josh Forti: Well, I think the first thing that everyone needs to do is they need to define themselves and understand their why. Before you go into anything else, I think the most important thing is understanding your why and if you don't start with your why I think everything else really gets kind of pushed off track. So a lot of people are like, oh, man, my why is I want to go out there and use entrepreneurship skills to change the world. That's not your why. When I sit down with people to find out what that why is I tell them, you should be able to tell me your why and I have no clue what you do. Steve Larsen: Cool. Josh Forti: Because if I can go and hear just like your vision and your purpose and passion in life, there's a lot of different ways to make something happen, right. Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: And, so I can change the world in eCommerce. I can change the world in sports. I can change the world in the oil fields, but if I don't know what my why is, if you can't clearly identify what that why is then I think that you're really off track, because everything needs to lead back up to that. I think step number one is identify what your why is and then step number two after that is very clearly defined, and I cannot stress the importance of that enough, very clearly defined. Then, step number two from there is you need to pick the avenue or the industry that you're going to get into to make that why happen. And so your what is kind of what you believe in and who you're going to go about implementing that vision to the world. I'm not talking about the product necessarily. I'm talking about the avenue or the vehicle that you're going to use to get that why message out there. Once you kind of determine what that is going to be, then you can go out and start crafting your brand from there. So, start with why and then from there go to the how and then go to the what from there. Start with why, how and then what. From there, you have to understand you need to publish a lot of content. Steve Larsen: Yeah. Everyone hear that. I know I shove it down your throat, but say it again, baby, whew! Josh Forti: Yeah, like publish your face off. I've heard you say it before and I know that's your saying, but it cannot be more true because in a world of unlimited information you have to be able to stand out from all your competitors and from everybody else that's out there that's putting out similar information. If you expect to be seen, if you expect people to build trust, then what do they say, 8 to 12 times before someone is willing to buy from you? Most of you guys and most of the people out there who are putting out content, it's like, I'm going to put out one video a week. I'm going to post one status a day. Those are not even rookie numbers, you know what I'm saying. Like, you've got to step it up to where you need to be omnipresent. I need to be able to see you, and I'm just going to take it back again to the Gary Vaynerchuk, the Russell Brunson, the Greg Cardone, Tai Lopez. Go look at their YouTube channels, their Instagram page, everything that they're doing. Those people put out way more content than you do, and way more content than almost every other person out there. Steve Larsen: Yeah. Josh Forti: And so you don't even have to be that good, and I say that hesitantly. Be good. Be an expert. Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: But if you can produce more content to the next guy, you don't even have to be an expert, you know. Your message is out there in front of everybody else and so if you start with why and you craft all of your content around making that why come true and showing people your vision with that why and whatever avenue or venue it is, whether it's entrepreneurship or fitness or music or what have you and publish a lot of content to move that forward, you're going to have an audience. Steve Larsen: That's huge. Completely believe that. Just there's power in just being present, just being out there when people are ready to look and ready to see you, fresh stuff that's available. Josh Forti: Yeah. Steve Larsen: Um, okay ... Josh Forti: Oh, sorry. Go ahead. Steve Larsen: No. Go for it. Josh Forti: I was going to say, the one other thing that I would mention in there that I think is really important for entrepreneurs, especially for entrepreneurs in the business space and for people that are trying to grow a personal brand and trying to grow an audience, you've got to pick something and be all about it because I see so many people. In fact, I just got off a phone call earlier today with a lady who she's really smart. She's really talented and she's got seven different projects that she's been working on, and she's been working on seven different projects for the last 20 years, and they're still not, you know, nothing's still happening. Steve Larsen: That's because there's seven of them. Josh Forti: I asked her, I said ... Right, and I'm like, so which one are you going to pick. She's like, well, I love them all. I'm like, and for the last 20 years you've gone nowhere. I mean, she's dumped money into them and she's dumped time, and her videos are good. Her content is good, things like that, but people don't know what she's about. It's 22 different things. Well, in her case, seven different things. Pick what it is that you're going to do and be about that and then once you have an audience and once you've grown you can kind of push your audience from one to the next or kind of incorporate different brands and things like that, but if people don't know the one thing that you are about, then they're not going to follow you. You know, what's Russell Brunson known for? Funnels... Steve Larsen: Funnels. Josh Forti: Funnels. Right. Think about that when you're building your brand as well. Steve Larsen: I totally love that. Oh, man. So huge. Gain the clarity and then move on. When you take somebody who's, I don't know, I'm trying to figure out how to ask this. When you take somebody who's just starting out, right, what are some of the basic things somebody could go do once they have the why, how and what? They figure those things out, they're publishing frequently. I guess what's the routine look like for them? Josh Forti: Yeah. For sure. I'm not going to pick a specific platform here. Steve Larsen: Sure. Josh Forti: I mean, I'm going to kind of give you an overview basis of what we'll look for. Russell Brunson talks about this in his book, Dotcom Secrets, but when you're publishing content you want to make sure that you're getting your content in front of the right audience. Different social media platforms do this differently. You know, on Instagram it's more hashtags and on, you know, Facebook it's more groups and things like that, but that's very important because if you can go and get your message in front of the right audience and always push them back to a centralized location, that's really, really important and you're going to start growing an audience that way. The first thing I would say is make sure that you're getting your message in front of the right people and then second, kind of like what we talked about when we went over your stuff is have a centralized hub of where you're pushing everyone to, so for me and a lot of my clients that I work with, that's a Facebook group because that's the most interactive way for us to be able to communicate to our clients. Maybe for some people that's an Instagram page or whatnot, but once you have them in that centralized hub where everything is pushing, also push them back out to other platforms as well. All of your content, all of your most valuable information is going to be at your centralized hub, but then you want to be able to cross-promote, because if someone comes in from YouTube, it's like, okay, they're coming in from YouTube and have an Instagram channel and a Facebook page and a Facebook group and a Snapchat and a Twitter, like where do I push them. I always push them back to wherever my centralized location is. All right, for me that's the Facebook group. And then from the Facebook group I then diversify to different platforms and push them from there, but I want to make sure that they're all in my Facebook group because that is where my most valuable content is. That's where I know my warmest leads are going to be and that's where I'm going to get a majority of my traffic from. Does that make sense? Steve Larsen: Yeah. Totally. Okay. That makes sense. You've got centralized hub. Josh Forti: Yeah. To have that centralized hub to where people know because it's like, okay, Instagram is great, but would I go to Instagram to be able to get in contact with Steven Larsen? Probably not... Would I go to Instagram to watch a full-time tutorial about that? Would I go to Instagram for this? No, but I would go to Instagram for valuable tips, for motivational tips and to stay in touch with that side of your life. Whereas YouTube I would go for more how-to's, but there's probably no information for me to get a hold of you or interact with you. I can't message you or anything. What I have found is a Facebook group is the most valuable place because it encompasses everything, posts, videos, text and video and image. It allows people to interact with you, you to interact with them and them to interact with each other and there's multiple places where you can put information, contact information and push them to different lead magnets. So, I take all of my traffic, I send them there and then I take my traffic from there and I go, hey, if you want to learn more about blah, blah, blah, make sure you subscribe to my YouTube channel and that way all of my Instagram traffic that I've just gotten off of Instagram and into my group, now I have it on Instagram and in my group and now I'm pushing them out to a third platform so I can now have them in three different places as well. Steve Larsen: You have like the main communication hub, but as needed you can shove them to the rest of the things you're doing in your marketing or campaigns or whatever else you're doing. Josh Forti: Yes, and it's very important to diversify on social media, but I do like to have my one main hub where everything goes because it's just so much easier than, especially when you're starting out. Now, as you continue to scale and you've got $10,000, $20,000, $50,000 a month behind you, then you can talk about different things, but in the beginning when you're starting out and you're just trying to grow an organic audience. We have a course coming out called Six-Figure Audiences. Steve Larsen: Sweet. Josh Forti: It's going to be so cool. I'm so excited about that, but it really talks about having that main hub and then diversifying from there. That's how people know where you're at most and for people like us, people like you, we don't have time to be posting and going live on four different platforms. Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: Go live on one and push everyone to that one and then diversify the content out from there. Steve Larsen: That's amazing. Okay, so say somebody who's maybe brand new or has an existing business and they're starting to set these things up. Got the centralized place. Got the message. Josh Forti: Yeah. Steve Larsen: When can you tell? Like, what are the things that need to be in place in order for the person to, I guess, blow up for lack of a better term? Like, when can you tell that someone's about to just go nuts? Josh Forti: Yeah. Steve Larsen: Most likely. Josh Forti: Yeah. When their branding is consistent across all their platforms, that's really important. If I can click on your Facebook profile and see that that is optimized and clean and clear, has a clear call of action in the timeline photo, things like that, you have a Facebook that's growing and is there as well. Your Instagram, no matter how big it is, I don't care how big your pages are, right, I don't care how many followers they have. I care about the quality of the content that you're putting upon those pages. When they're all set up right and well and I actually, I really look a lot at the engagement and the copy and the type of content that you put out, whether that be written or video, my favorite is video. I overwhelmingly do more video than anything else because it is the most engaging, especially live video, but if their content is engaging, even at a small amount and they have clear branding across all platforms, that says to me, okay, this person knows enough to at least understand that this is important and that maybe they're just missing the traffic piece right now, but they can figure that out and I would encourage everyone to optimize all your profiles no matter if you have followers or not. I mean, Twitter is like I never am on Twitter, and I only have like 2,000 followers on there, but it's still optimized to if anybody were to click on my Twitter they could come back and find my other social media profiles and things like that. So, when everyone's optimized across that platform, when they're putting out good consistent content every single day and it's branded there, I think that says to me, okay, this person is doing the right things from that standpoint, but then on a more like psychological side standpoint, things that are maybe a little bit harder to teach, if I can see that your brand has a very clear message and it is speaking directly to your target audience, that's probably the most, like the number one telltale sign of being able to say, okay, this person really has dialed in their audience. When you go, like we've worked with all sorts of people, the people that have the clearest message to their audience are the ones that grow the fastest, hands down, almost without question unless you're running massive amounts of pay traffic. From an organic-grow standpoint, from an audience creation standpoint and a brand standpoint, the more precise that you can get with your message across all platforms with that branded, says to me okay, you're ready to blow up. And, going back to your original question, a great way to do that is through interviews. Once you have everything set up, podcast interviews like this, livestream interviews in other groups. I cannot stress enough the importance of cross promotion within the marketplace with other influencers. Steve Larsen: That's huge. Oh man. That's a gold mine everybody. We should be charging for this. This is awesome. Please be writing notes. Super awesome... Hey, so this is me with the direct-response marketer in me, when's the best scenario for me to be grabbing contact information, you know, opt-ins, email addresses, stuff like that so I can continue to remarket to them or is the fact that they're on my page, is that my opt-in? Josh Forti: Yeah. That's a great question. Common misconception there says, oh, if they're in my Facebook group, I don't need them on my email list. You're wrong. Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: I don't ever think you can have people in enough places. Steve Larsen: Sure. Sure. Josh Forti: If I have them on YouTube and Facebook and Instagram and my email list I can still get on a chat bot, you know. I think that from a timing standpoint, right away. Steve Larsen: Sure. Josh Forti: You need to have, and that's part of putting out content. As soon as I hit your page, like if I want more information, it's not for everyone. We know that, but if I want more information and it's not there, you just lost money. That's pretty much the only way there is to look at it. Being able to provide information in exchange for contact information as soon as they hit your page. That's why I tell people, and I know we've talked about this as well, cover photos on timelines for people's profile pictures or in people's Facebook groups. Have call-to-actions. You look at a lot of the big influencers. You to in there and you hit their cover photo or you hit the cover of their timeline photo and it's get my free book, get my free this. That's amazing advertising and it's free advertising space. Take advantage of that. Any place that you can go and provide awesome amounts of value, get their contact information. I don't think there's such thing as having them in too many places... Steve Larsen: Sure. Completely makes sense to me. Yeah. Absolutely. You like to do a lot of eBooks and stuff that's easy to fulfill on. You're still giving value, but that's what's actually getting them on the list that way and remarket afterwards? Josh Forti: Yeah. Anything from eBooks, webinars. I actually really like to be doing a lot of like free training stuff. Steve Larsen: Oh, cool. Josh Forti: Where I'll just go live on my Facebook group and so, you know, when I go live now we'll have 1,000 viewers, right or 1,000 people, 1,200 people that will watch that, and so you know, throughout there I'll just be like if you want more information on this specific training, you know, drop a comment below and we'll send it over to you or click this link below and go to that. It could be anything from the recording of that training. It could be an eBook. Any form of free magnet. I know you talk a lot about that. The other thing that I think is a misconception from a lot of people is they think that providing value is only free information and that like you shouldn't pitch right away with your audience. I actually used to believe that and when I first started my audience.. I didn't pitch at all and it was like 30 days on my email sequence before I would pitch anything or at least two to three weeks, and the problem that we'd run into with that, and we made a shift as soon as we realized, I mean, certainly we don't do that anymore... I mean, you train your audience and your audience is either a buying audience or it's a not-buying audience. If you can establish right away that you are there to provide massive amounts of value, that you're there for the right reasons, you clearly identified your why, you know, all those things with your branding and with your message, charging right away upfront, like having an eBook with an upsell, you know, $37, $97 or a pitch to a webinar. Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: That's fine. People don't always expect to get things for free, and the people that do aren't usually your ideal customer. I think that's really important to remember that provide a lot of free information. Give them opportunity to only take advantage of free information, but having paid content, paid products and things like that, that is not a bad thing and, in fact, if anything it probably will increase the value of your audience when done right. Steve Larsen: Sure. Completely makes sense. Yeah, absolutely. That's somewhat of a locked gate, you know, between the good people and those who are there to just freeload a little bit. Josh Forti: Right. Steve Larsen: That's fascinating. Okay, cool. Cool, cool. Let's say, okay, someone's gone through and they've set the stuff up because they've got like consistency in the message, putting all the platforms together, they've got a hub. What would you say? I know I'm just kind of grilling you, man, but this is awesome stuff. Josh Forti: Yeah, yeah. Steve Larsen: Easiest free ways to grow your following? Josh Forti: Facebook group and Instagram page. Steve Larsen: Okay. Josh Forti: Those are going to be your two fastest-growing organic-growth platforms for free. With very rare exception, if you're like a ridiculously awesome video editor and you can produce a YouTube video absolutely every single day, then maybe that's an exception, but for most of us it's the Instagram platform and a Facebook group. Two reasons for this. One, Instagram is still the fastest-growing platform on social media right now. It's the hottest and it's getting the most users per day over any other platform. They're almost at a billion users there, so half the size of Facebook already. There is no way to pay the Instagram platform itself for followers like it is on Facebook. Right. I can run ads with like swipe up ads, like swipe up here. Go to this link and have that link back to my page and things like that, but there's no ad that I can run that's like, hey, Instagram, I want more followers and I want to target these people, I want these people to follow my page. Because of that, the Instagram algorithm still allows us to majorly capitalize on viral content, on Instagram networks, on engagement groups and things like that. So, posting good content, using hashtags. If you're in my group, Social Media for Entrepreneurs, you can go and we give a lot of free trainings on Instagram and social media like this a lot. Hashtags are important... The captions are important... Getting into different engagement groups or plugging into different networks with shout-for-shouts and things like that. You can still majorly take advantage of a lot of those things and grow 10,000 followers in even a month. I mean, that's not impossible. Steve Larsen: That's amazing. Josh Forti: It's totally doable, even for the beginner. A Facebook group, on the other hand, typically speaking, it's going to grow a little bit slower. You're not going to get 10,000 members in there in a month organically; however, the quality of your lead is a lot higher because it's important to remember on Instagram, and this is kind of a gold nugget here for those of you who are taking notes and listening, especially in the marketing space. Instagram followers are not buyers. Now, you might be like, Josh, okay, what the heck? Why would you preach Instagram then? You get a ridiculous amount of free traffic from Instagram and you need to push them off the platform. Instagram is amazing for free offers, free webinars, free eBooks, things like that, but very rarely do people buy on the Instagram platform. In fact, the same person on Instagram and Facebook I think is like eight times or something like that more likely to buy on the Facebook platform to a paid offer than they are on Instagram. Steve Larsen: Holy crap. Josh Forti: I don't remember what the exact thing is. However, it is probably eight times cheaper to get them on the Instagram platform and then just push them off to another platform, either on your email list or into your Facebook group. That's why on every single lead magnet that I ever create the last page of that lead magnet is a call-to-action to my Facebook group. That's true for both pay traffic and organic traffic, but particularly on Instagram you want to get them and get them off as fast as you can. We're seeing a little bit less of that. Instagram is starting to make some changes, but as of now that is still very much the case. Steve Larsen: Sure. Josh Forti: Whereas Facebook, the quality of your follower is going to be much higher, a little bit harder to acquire one, but once you have that member in your group or that follower on your page, they are much higher and Facebook is making a really big push for Facebook groups right now. It's never been easier to grow a Facebook group. Everyone's like, ah, the trend is over. I'm like, oh, no, no. The trend is just starting. To be able to capitalize upon that and really take advantage, yes, obviously, we're already partly up the wave and so it's not as easy as it was six months ago, but I mean we're still launching Facebook groups and getting 1,000 members in a month, all organically and 2,000 members in three or four months. I tell people the more active you are in a Facebook group the more Facebook will promote you and so if you can be active and you can get your members to be active then Facebook is going to recommend your group to so many other people. Do that and being very, very active in your group, having a clearcut message to that, constantly going live and posting statuses and getting people to engage, answering questions, and then having what we call lots of hoses to fill up the pool. Think of it as a swimming pool, and I got this from my buddy Arnie Getsky, you know, think of your Facebook group as a swimming pool. If you have one hose in it and if leads are only coming in from one source, it's probably going to fill pretty slow, but if on the end of every lead magnet, whether it's an eBook or a webinar training or even paid courses, and in your email lists your constantly pushing and promoting to your group from all your other social media platforms, now you have six or seven hoses in there. It's going to grow six or seven times faster... Steve Larsen: That's a great way to think of it. That's going to make me go rethink what I'm doing at the end of every one of my thank you pages now. I've got to refix some of those things. That's interesting. So, let's say, lots of free ways, lots of cool ways, and, again, like you said, you pull them from one platform, you can push them to another... Josh Forti: Right. Steve Larsen: That's huge about Instagram by the way. That's so cool. Gaining them there but pushing them to Facebook through actual purchasing. Those are free methods, right. What are some of your favorite paid methods for growing it? Let's say you've got some cash you're able to dump behind it. Hire you. Josh Forti: Facebook ads for sure. Yeah. That's an option for sure. You know, it's really interesting because paid strategies are often not always the best strategies for growing an audience. Like, in many cases they are, but don't just think because there's money behind it, it can't be done organically... Interviews, especially with bigger pages, is my favorite way to grow an audience, honestly, getting on podcasts and things like this is honestly my favorite way, but from a paid perspective my two favorite ways are going to be paid Facebook ads and influencer shout-outs on Instagram. Steve Larsen: Okay. Josh Forti: Instagram traffic is cheap. It is probably some of the cheapest traffic that you're ever going to get, so a lot of people think paid traffic, they think paying the platform itself. Find an influencer in your industry and in your niche that has similar products or services to whatever it is that you're promoting. On Instagram it's really easy to find big pages with a lot of followers, a million, half-million, two-million followers in the motivational niche or the quote niche or an entrepreneur space and purchase shout-outs from them for really pennies of what you'd pay elsewhere for the amount of exposure that you're going to be getting. If you have a good offer, usually we do something like a giveaway of some sort, usually a physical product tied in with cash, not just cash only... We've found that cash doesn't convert as well as if you do have a physical product with it. Pushing them to either your page or to an offer or to your Instagram account or to your Facebook group, that works really well. And so partnering up with influencers to get exposure is huge. I know we talked about this a little bit both in Vegas and down in Orlando, but make sure that every one of your pages is pixeled with a Facebook pixel and I hardly ever run a Facebook ad before running that offer first on Instagram... Steve Larsen: Really? Josh Forti: What I mean by that is if I'm shooting out of the dark, right, and I'm going out there and I am like trying to figure out what's going to work. I don't know who my target audience is, now this is for beginners, all right. I have no pixels. I have no audience creation. I'm just starting out. What I'm going to do is I'm going to go and I'm going to take my offer. Usually it's a free offer because I'm going to Instagram with it and I pixeled all the pages and I'll go and for the people that hit my offer I'm going to get lots and lots of traffic on that page. So for $500 on you know Facebook, I might get opt-ins for like $5 and I might get 100 opt-ins. For $500 on you know Instagram I can get opt-ins for $2 or $1, depending on the audience. So, all those people are going to hit the page plus all the people that hit the page that didn't opt-in, now I have an audience created and I have an audience created of people that just hit the page and are interested and then another audience created of people that actually opted in, right, because I have that page pixeled too. Now, I can actually create lookalike audiences on Facebook or re-target those specific people on Facebook for those that didn't buy or that I want to target them with a similar product and I'm going to get higher conversions right off the bat and I'm going to be able to play around right at the beginning. If you are just getting started in paid traffic and you have under a $3,000-4,000 budget total, to play around with this, I'd highly recommend throwing $500 or $1,000 at an Instagram, a couple of Instagram shout-outs. Typically, story shout-outs work best, story with a swipe-up feature... Steve Larsen: Oh, cool. Josh Forti: That usually works better than a post... Doing things like that, getting a lot of data, pixeling up those pixels, getting them firing off so that you have an audience and then going over there and retargeting on Facebook for Facebook ads for different offers like that. Steve Larsen: That's an amazing strategy. That's so cool. Pulling from that. Josh Forti: Yeah. Steve Larsen: Oh, man. Then you're retargeting them and okay. Cool. Cool. Josh Forti: You can create lookalike audiences from there and whatnot. And then as far as growing a Facebook group, so important thing to note is it against Facebook's terms of service to run a Facebook ad directly to a Facebook group. Just FYI. Steve Larsen: Right. Josh Forti: We had an account shut down. We learned the hard way. Avoid that. However, if you did want to grow a Facebook group and you do want to, man, I really want to focus on a Facebook group, one of the strategies, like I said, that we have found is just get your highest converting free offer. Like, something that's going to opt-in at like 60-70% that everybody's opting in at, and then maybe your thank you page, basically a sales page to join a free group. Steve Larsen: Clever. Josh Forti: That's going to be the fastest way to be able to, so instead of an upsell, if you're like, man, I've got $3,000 to dump at advertising for my group, how am I going to do that best? If you want to run paid traffic just find your highest converting landing page, put the thank you page as basically a sales page for that group and then as long as that group is on the second page and not on the first page that they click on, you should be fine and then you can promote people to that group that way. Steve Larsen: That's amazing. It's a little gray hat action. Zuckerberg, you hear that? Just kidding. Josh Forti: A little bit. I'm sure he's listening, so, you know. Steve Larsen: He's everywhere. We've got Zucker in the air. Josh Forti: That's right. That's right. Steve Larsen: Hey. That's super cool. Just a final question here. I guess is there some kind of platform that helps people be able to pull this off and do this? I don't know, something that you like or are you literally kind of manually going through and doing all this stuff, pushing all these different platforms and stuff? Is there a tool that you're using? Josh Forti: As far as like the content, like pushing out the content or creating the content or getting the data or like what specifically? Steve Larsen: Yeah. I guess not so much curating, pushing it around though. Josh Forti: Oh, gosh. We have a team, different BA's or whatnot. Steve Larsen: Sure. Josh Forti: I think that's probably going to be the best way for most people is just diversifying content from there, different transcripts and things like that. As far as like pushing it out, like there are different schedulers, like you can schedule content on Instagram, Onlypult and Groom both are like, if you want to schedule content to be automatically posted. Those ones both work for Instagram. Typically speaking, the reach is a little bit lower because Instagram knows, but they have said, yeah, you can do that. For Facebook we use like Buffer or Hootsuite. Once again, in my experience, reach is lower, so I always like to just post things. For me, I really value the exposure. Steve Larsen: Sure. Josh Forti: I really value reaching the maximum amount of people that I can reach. I post everything manually. My BA's don't use schedulers. I don't use schedulers. Everything that you see is done from a real person. As far as analytics and like data is concerned, the Instagram platform, social info is actually mine, so you know, slightly partial, but we have crafted and we coded. We've been working on this for the last eight months... We've been tweaking and tweaking and tweaking it. Social info basically gives you, for the Instagram platform, every piece of data you need from what content is working or not working for influencers to hashtag research to being able to download other people's content to like everything that you need on there to checking if your account is shadow banned, things like that. From an Instagram perspective, if you're trying to grow your Instagram organically, social info, it's my favorite platform for that. Steve Larsen: That's awesome. Appreciate that. Thank you so much. Hey, I appreciate it. Where can actually people reach out to you and be following you and be seeing what you're doing? Josh Forti: Yeah. The best way to stay in touch is just going to be the Facebook group. Use my strategies that I just told you guys. Post it all to one place. Social Media for Entrepreneurs. If you got to socialmediaforentrepreneurs.co it will take you right to the group and you'll be able to check that out. And then if you want something for free there is an eBook that I wrote and it's all about how to create a profitable personal brand and actually start generating leads for free with the audience that you have on Facebook and optimizing your Facebook profile and things like that. If you go to joshforti.com/ebook. My last name is spelled F-O-R-T-I, but joshforti.com/ebook. You can get something for free there. That's a pretty cool book and there's some contact information as well as the thank you pages, a call-to-action to join the Facebook group. Steve Larsen: Yeah, and what better to go check out a live example of everything we've been talking about then just to go check out the group anyway. Josh Forti: That's right. Steve Larsen: Social Media for Entrepreneurs. Awesome stuff. Well, I appreciate it. Thanks so much Josh and thanks for taking the time to do this. Josh Forti: Absolutely, man. I appreciate you having me on, and I look forward to working with you and making the world a better place. Steve Larsen: Boom. Just try to tell me you didn't like that. Hey listeners! Just FYI there won't be an Orphan Black episode next week due to a scheduling conflict, so soak up this one and enjoy it until we return the following week! This episode we get to see the first-ever footage of someone attempting to remove a maggot-bot, and it's the worst thing ever. Like, so bad. The kind of thing that wouldn't even occur to me if I were trying to invent something terrible, because it's just crossing some kind of mental line for me. Nope. I hate it. I hate it so much. And I hate it all the more because surprise surprise, it turns out that Sarah has one implanted in her cheek. NOOOOOOO I HATE IT. Also, there's a much less dramatic but no less upsetting thing happening with Fe. We've been used to him being there every time anything has needed doing, and this episode really points out how much Sarah and the audience have taken it for granted that he will always be there when she needs him. Turns out, finding out that she's actually related to Siobhan has fucked him up a bit, and spurred him to look up who his birth family are. On top of that, there's finally resentment bubbling to the surface, and he's taking a step back from the whole mess of Clone Club. Can't say as I blame him. Thanks again to all of you for listening, and see you in 2 weeks!

Hi- going on a road trip with my 22 year old daughter from North Carolina back home to Texas in late November. Looking for an audiobook recommendation to listen to on the drive- something possibly set in the south with a mystery or supernatural bent. We like smart characters and a plot that is twisty. --Jen   2. Hi ladies! I am a librarian at a small library outside Philadelphia with a HUGE book-club-in-a-bag collection (it comes with books, audiobooks, discussion materials--the whole works). I've just recently taken over the collection and I realized that it is tragically white. I'm doing what I can to remedy that, but I was hoping for some suggestions for diverse, newer, fairly accessible book-club lit (or non-fiction!) for the collection. We've got The Underground Railroad, The Mothers, Little Fires Everywhere, Behold the Dreamers, and Between the World and Me, to name a few. Thanks so much! --Katherine   3. Hi Amanda and Jenn!! I listen to Get Booked religiously, and you guys have steered me into so many things I've absolutely loved. I just finished the Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, and it's left me craving more books with meaningful, adult-child relationships where at least one party is choosing to be in the others' life (adoption, mentor-ship, and similar.) What I specifically loved about A.J. and Maya was how genuinely they liked each other as people. I'd love to read more in that vein, if you have any recommendations? Thanks! --Lauren   4. Hello! First I want you to know that I love the show. My TBR list is huge now and My husband keeps side eyeing me as I bring new books home. I'm currently reading Doomsday Book by Connie Willis and it has made me realize how much I love books about the Middle Ages or Medieval times. I've also read the Inquisitor's Tale and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. What other recommendations do you have that take place in that time or are similar to those books? Thanks so much!! --Olivia   5. I suffer from a chronic pain condition and would like to find books that have conditions similar to mine (or other disabilities). Memoir or fiction would be great. (No Me Before You please!) --Emily   6. Hi Get Booked Ladies! I have always loved Science Fiction and in the last few months have really gotten into short story collections. I have recently read "Stories of Your Life" by Ted Chiang (this is probably going to be my favorite book of the year), "Bloodchild" by Octavia Butler, and "Three Moments of an Explosion" by China Mieville. I have also loved in the past "The Illustrated Man" by Ray Bradbury. I currently have "Beyond the Rift" by Peter Watts and "Miracle" by Connie Willis on my upcoming TBR. I am looking for some more interesting and well written sci-fi short story collections! I enjoy hard sci-fi and first contact stories. Dark, weird, speculative, and bizarre are also great descriptors for me. Just FYI...I don't really like fantasy (I never understood why sci-fi and fantasy are clumped together). Thank you so much and love your show! --Andrea :)   7. Hi! I teach high school English, and often listen to the podcast on my way to work, which makes for a lovely commute (but also makes it impossible to write down all of the books I want to read). I work with several young people who are hunters, and want to read about hunting/survival/outdoorsy stuff. We have Paulsen's Hatchet and sequels and Si-cology 101 (Duck Dynasty), which have been popular among this group, and one student is reading Where the Red Fern Grows. Another of these readers started American Sniper but never finished it, and they've all read The Hunger Games. I'm ordering some Jon Krakauer, but I'm looking for more recommendations that might strike a chord with this group of readers - fiction or nonfiction, especially things that are a little more grownup (YA is awesome - more of that, please, but I worry they're not challenged by some of the middle grades texts we have available). Kevin Costner delivers a performance so subdued you'll think he's reading from a Shop Vac instruction manual. But no movie-fixing job is too tough for the Notesy Boys! I think we actually crushed it. In this episode I am chatting with Monica Froese all about the realities of being a working mom, the plethora of things that need to be changed in corporate company culture and how women can create better work arrangements for themselves and their families.   Monica Froese is a mom, wife, author, and entrepreneur with an MBA degree in finance and a wildly popular blog, Redefining Mom, that she writes to empower working moms to find flexible work arrangements.   She has traveled to the White House to discuss family-friendly workplace policies and helps moms find their version of balance through building online businesses and escape the 9-5.   Monica has a wealth of knowledge to share and this conversation ended up being such a cool back and forth dialogue about both of our corporate experiences, and how we can all play a part in changing the game for working moms everywhere.   In This Episode You'll Hear: How experiencing postpartum PTSD from a traumatic birth and being expected back at work fueled Monica's passion for empowering working women, and her desire to work for herself, on her terms. How she got her first big "break" that ended up getting her invited to the White House to participate in a Working Families roundtable event honoring people who have made a difference in the country for family-friendly policy. Branding is kind of a big thing in the world of an entrepreneur and it's something you want to make sure to get right so that you are set apart and set up to successfully connect and communicate with the right people.   But honestly? Branding can go so much further beyond business, which is something I'm chatting about with my lovely guest, Cathy Olson.   Cathy has been beautifying brands and designing experiences of digital delight for over 17 years, including working with multi-million dollar brands.   Now as founder of Love Inspired, an international branding and web design studio with a boutique approach, she helps creatives package their expertise in a way that excites eyes, hugs hearts, and cues cha-chings.   Cathy's Boss Mom Journey   Cathy starts off by sharing that she's been a creative person her whole life and always had a pretty good idea of what she wanted to do with her life.   Her aunt was a graphic designer and her grandpa was an architect, so she grew up seeing people get paid to do art and knew she wanted to get into doing some kind of commercial art.   She's now been a graphic designer for the past 17 years and went out on her own nearly 10 years ago. Though she started working with bigger brands, which had a lot of advantages, at the end of the day she felt like it was always about the bottom line and the experience lacked the kind of heart and passion she was looking for.   When she got engaged she started creating custom wedding invitations on the side to help pay for her wedding, but never planned for it to be an actual business. Eventually though, she had two full-time gigs on her hands and she had to make a decision.   In 2008 she quit her "cushy" job at the heigh of the economic recession, which she was criticized for at the time. But when deciding between working with the bigger companies or working with amazing, passion-driven clients in the wedding industry, it was a no-brainer for her.   Luckily she made the right decision, because just four months later the company she had been working for ended up doing a bunch of layoffs and she's certain she would have been included.   Ever since then she's been doing her thing, and growing Love Inspired into what it is today. Her focus now is really helping the business owners who are in spaces that feel overcrowded and like no one’s listening. Together, they work to create a brand and website that is different and unique, that stands out and makes a real impact instead of just being "one of the many."   Important Things to Consider When Building Your Website   After so many years in this industry, and being an entrpreneur herself, Cathy has a wealth of knowledge and expertise when it comes to creating beautiful, functional websites that convert like crazy and reach the right people with your message.   She talks about how people often go straight into design without first bearing in mind user experience. She suggests starting with the journey you want to take people on in mind first, then figuring out how to beautify that journey.   Your homepage is the place where you want to make a lasting impression and answer everyone's primary question: "am I in the right spot?"   Another important thing is making sure to clearly share who you are and what you do....but in a way that makes it about them, not you. They are the ones you're trying to guide through a journey of recognizing their need or desire for you, not the other way around.   Cathy also stresses the power of eliminating overwhelm when creating your website. Focusing on making your website user experience as streamlined and guided as possible will help you so much in the long run.   You need to be tracking your analytics (what are the paths most traveled) so you can be strategic about how to connect with them and create the end result. Think about their journey. Tools That Cathy Loves & Recommends   Google Analytics App Sumo Hot Jar   Something brilliant that Cathy shared is that there is variability between people's conscious and subconscious, which means people will tell you things that are different from what they are actually doing.   Using tools to actually track and see what people are doing on your website helps you be strategic about how to connect with them and create the end result you want.   Referenced in the Show:   Love Inspired Website Content Roadmap  Cow by Bear   (Just FYI, some of these links may be affiliate links, which means if you make a purchase using the links I may receive some love in return!)   Sponsor Spotlight: Trello     Have you been introduced you to what I call my “work wife” yet? The Boss Mom Podcast - Business Strategy - Work / Life Balance - -Digital Marketing - Content Strategy

Let's be honest - we all started businesses to make money, right? Sure, we have gifts and passions and hopefully a drive behind why we do what we do other than pure financial gain. But at the end of the day, our businesses wouldn't be businesses if there wasn't revenue being generated. The challenge is that actually getting to the point of generating revenue can be a really big challenge, especially when you're just starting out. We've been there, friends, which is why NJ and I are hopping into this episode to discuss how exactly we each started making money in our businesses and how things have changed and evolved since then. Listen + subscribe on iTunes // Stitcher   NJ's Journey to Making Money NJ started a blog in 2009 and bootstrapped from the beginning, learning how to do #allthethings herself, from website design to graphic imagery creation to social media and beyond. As a blogger her primary source of income came in the form of sponsored posts she wrote and marketed. But as her blog grew and she continued to develop her skills, she decided she wanted more consistent control over her income. She knew her skills were valuable (because people kept asking for them!) so she leveraged what she had and offered her virtual assistant services to other bloggers and business owners. She kept it simple, putting a page up on her website to outline her services, and got out there and started telling people about what she was doing. It wasn't long before she met Dana and a few other high profile people who she started providing services for. This helped her quickly gain her confidence and she continued to develop her skills as a VA. She has since outgrown that title as the scope of her knowledge, skills and experience have grown, and she now offers digital marketing consulting in addition to continuing to run her blog. NJ’s motto has always been to "move fast and break things" - or in other words, don't wait for things to be perfect before putting them out into the world. Dive in, get messy and make things happen. Dana's Journey to Making Money When Dana first left corporate America she jumped into business as a Mindful Communication Coach since it tied together beautifully with what she had been doing in her career. She did some consulting and speaking and made some money, but was consistently spending more money that she was making that first year. At some point she learned the concept of zeroing in on your gift and doing what was easy to you, but difficult for other people. She recognized that she had a gift for content strategy and creating courses, so without a website, logo, or much of anything else, she jumped into taking on content strategy coaching clients to see if it worked. She also leveraged outside platforms like Udemy and Skillshare to create her own simple courses, which ignited a big shift in how and where she was making money. As she continued on, the rest of her business growth all had to do with leveraging relationships and opportunities that came her way. In addition to content strategy and creating courses, she also wrote social media content for clients for a time and continued building her network of relationships. When she was pregnant with her second baby, she had the idea to write the Boss Mom book, and decided to part ways with all the clients she was working "for" in favor of shifting into CEO mode to ignite and grow what is now the Boss Mom movement. She talks about how when she changed how she thought about her business, it changed the trajectory of her business. In just a year and a half she has gone from making somewhere around $5K per month to making nearly $30K per month, and she has goals to make the Boss Mom brand a million dollar company within the year. Final Takeaways Don't discount where you start, because everyone has to start somewhere (just like us!) If you're intentional about leveraging relationships and opportunities, thinks can build and grow quickly. Business growth is all about leveraging the things you're good at, the relationships you have, recognizing what works and being really decisive as you take things one step at a time. As busy moms and entrepreneurs the thought of ever having to step outside of our regular lives or businesses can seem pretty impossible at times. But the reality is, we NEED to give ourselves space away from normal life and business to reset, get refreshed and live a little! In preparation for a busy several weeks of travel coming up for me, I am hopping into this episode with NJ to discuss all the ways we as boss moms can prepare our businesses for travel so that you can have a leg up next time you have somewhere to go! Listen + subscribe on iTunes // Stitcher The biggest thing to think about when it comes to preparing your business for travel is how you can not only prepare for the time you'll be away, but also for your return. There is nothing worse than letting things get backlogged so you end up having to work when you weren't planning to, letting things fall through the cracks, OR having a great time away, but having to jump back into chaos immediately upon returning. Here are a few of our best tips that will help set you and your business up for success the next time you travel! 1. Create space in your calendar During the weeks leading up to a trip or vacation you want to be proactive about how you'll be spending your time before traveling. Pull your calendar out and identify what things can be taken off and what you'll need to say no to in order to create space for you to make the necessary preparations for leaving your business. Get your ducks in a row little by little leading up to your trip and you won't feel like a crazy minute trying to get everything figured out right as you're heading out the door! 2. Work IN your business instead of ON your business. More than likely it will be in your best interest to focus on the inner workings of your business and stay in "create & sustain" mode versus focusing on business growth and adding high level things to your plate right before traveling. Because honestly, who needs that extra stress? Be intentional about taking care of the things inside your house versus the things outside (you can do that when you get back!) 3. Determine if you will work while you travel. Sometimes there will be instances where traveling provides you the perfect opportunity to work on things in your business that you wouldn't normally get to in regular life. Other times there are things you will have to do while you're gone, such as checking into a Facebook group that you run or hopping on the phone for client calls. But there are other times (ie: vacation) where you won't want to (and shouldn't!) touch a phone or computer. Figure these things out in advance. Decide what you will and won't do, and prepare yourself and your business to accommodate that decision. 4. Get your automation systems in place. Automation is a beautiful, beautiful thing for us busy mom entrepreneurs on a normal basis, but it's especially amazing during times of travel. Figure out what can be automated while you're away and do the work to get those systems in place and running so you don't have to even think about it until you return. 5. Clearly define roles & operations information to your team. If your business is to the point where you have a team of people supporting you, make sure to prepare them for your absence and set them up for success while you're gone. Clearly define who will be responsible for what, make sure they have what they need, and make sure they have access to everything they'll need access to (including you, in cases of emergency!) Pro tip: don't try to micromanage and allow your team members to own their roles. While we can't promise that if you do all these things that your life, business and trip will go off without a hitch, we can guarantee that it will be a whole lot easier than if you didn't prepare in advance ;) Referenced in the Show: ThredUp Lilah Higgins, The Higgins Creative Natalie Gingrich Boss Mom Minis Raising Your Business Webinar Kelsey Murphy Pat Flynn Danielle Roberts Boss Mom Feature in INC.com 50 Shades Darker Sparkle. In case you hadn't noticed, online courses have become all the rage in the last few years. Seriously - you can find a course online for just about ANYTHING. While there are tons of benefits to being able to find quality information and training on pretty much any subject you want, when it comes to choosing courses as investments into your business there are definitely things you want to consider before pulling the trigger. In this episode we are chatting about best practices when it comes to buying courses and then how to actually leverage them once you have purchased. Because no one likes wasting time or money, right?! 1. Don't get caught up in the hype. Oftentimes affiliate marketing will play a big role in the overall marketing strategy of course launches and how it can be easy to get sucked up into the hype course affiliates are putting out there. It's important to "vet" your sources and try to determine if they genuinely love the course....or if they're just greedy and in it for a payday. 2. Research the course creator - do your due diligence! These days anyone can make a course about anything - you don't need a degree in rocket science to put together some slides with Wikipedia'd information and upload it to an online platform to sell. When you discover a course you are interested in, do your due diligence in terms of properly vetting the course creator. Ask yourself, "Do I trust this person? Do they have the chops to teach me x, y and z?" Evaluate the actual reasons you have for why this person is the right person to teach you what you're wanting to know. Do you research and sell it to yourself. 3. Determine if the course will actually be worth your time. Many business owners when they're just starting out try to learn and do #allthethings because they don't want to outsource tasks until they feel financially capable of taking that step. Learning how to do #allthethings via courses seems like a good starting point - and often times, it is! But you have to consider the very real possibility that there are some things you just shouldn't spend your time doing because they will never fall in line with your gifts and will actually continue to waste your time rather than make your time more profitable. 4. Determine if your business really requires this skill or information. It can be easy to think that your business needs #allthethings in order to be successful in the online space....but that's hardly ever true. There are tons of different approaches and strategies and tools out there that can help you grow your business....but you won't need all of them, only the ones that are right for you and your business. Don't just invest in a course because you think you need to. 5. Identify your "course personality." Not all course takers are created equally! Typically there are two types of course takers: the "Doers" and the "Thinkers." The Doers just want to get in, zero in on the parts that they want, devour them and then act on what they learned. The Thinkers want to go through systematically and thoroughly consume all the information so they can fully own it and then implement. Some courses are laid out to accommodate both types of people. Some are not. You don't want to get stuck with a course that isn't in a format that will be conducive to your course personality type. If you aren't sure, reach out to the course creator to ask! 6. Assess whether the course aligns with your business goals. Sometimes a course will seem like a good idea, but when you actually stop to think about it, maybe it's not the right time in your business to focus on whatever that course topic is. You need to make decisions in your business surrounding what you should be focusing on now. Ask yourself, "Will this course help me move me toward my current business goals or slow me down?" 7. Assess whether the course aligns with your calendar. The reality is that time is not an unlimited resource and even if we desperately want to be able to take a course that seems valuable, our calendar and schedule may simply not allow it. Be honest with yourself about the time you have and make decisions accordingly. 8. Recognize that you will have to do the work. Magic doesn't just suddenly happen the moment you hit the "buy" button and enroll in a course. Think of it like a college class. The professor will show up and impart his information to you, but you have to show up and do the work to actually get anything out of it. 9. Know what you want to get out of it before you buy Speaking of getting what you want out the course.....you'll want to know what exactly it is that you want to get out of it BEFORE you buy. Something cool I discovered while buying Marshmallow Mateys for my kids… On this episode Russell talks about a new idea he had about opt-in’s and why it’s super easy. He then walks you through the steps you need to take to do it too. Here are 3 cool things you’ll hear in today’s episode: Why Russell only buys sugary cereal for Christmas. Why not every business is cookie cutter and you should use different tools to build your list. And see how you can start your own Almond milk making business So listen below as Russell walks you through his list building strategy. ---Transcript--- Hey everyone, this is Russell Brunson. I’m out in the snow the day before Christmas, and we’re about to lay down some Marketing In Your Car. All right everyone, we’ve been hoping, we’ve been praying, we’ve been wishing, we’ve been dreaming of a white Christmas and sure enough, Christmas is tomorrow and today we woke up and it is snowing. We are having an official white Christmas. We didn’t think we were going to get it, but we got it. I’m excited. I’m actually driving to the store because one of our family traditions for Christmas is, Santa brings every single kid their own box of sugar cereal. We usually eat super healthy all year round, but on Christmas day, we don’t. That’s a tradition we’ve had since I was a little kid. We use to do it when we were little kids, we would each get our own boxes. Santa would ask what we wanted for Christmas, it wasn’t never I want a pony or a bike. It was I want Marshmallow Mateys, or I want Lucky Charms. Eventually it morphed into everyone … At first, the first few years it was all over the place cereals. Some people getting Cocoa Krispies, some getting Fruity Pebbles. It was all over the place. Eventually we all found out that the best is Lucky Charms. That became the staple. Then we found out that if you go to the generic brand, the Malt-O-Meal or whatever, you can get the big old bags of Marshmallow Mateys which are basically like Lucky Charms only it’s in a huge bag at half the price. You’re getting twice the cereal and Santa Claus is basically hooking you up for a lot longer. We’d each, by then… the last 10 years of my childhood, we’d each get our own bag of Marshmallow Mateys. The huge old bags, right? What we would do Christmas morning is, we would get a big old salad bowl out, fill the whole salad bowl full of Marshmallow Mateys. Then we eat out all the oats and not eat the marshmallows. If you ate a marshmallow you lost. We would eat the whole oats, and it’s like an hour long process. By the time it was done, you got a big ole salad bowl full of milk and marshmallows, and it’s pretty dang amazing. Then we eat those down, and that’s Christmas. Christmas isn’t Christmas without cereal. I’m going to get cereal right now for myself and my kids, and yes, Santa Claus is bringing me my very own bag of Marshmallow Mateys and I’m not going to share with the kids. It’s going to be awesome. Anyway, I wanted to share with you, because I was thinking as I was driving here, I don’t know if it’s the same for you guys, but my brain feels like it’s this track where it’s always moving forward and looping things and ideas are coming in and out and every once and a while one’s exciting. I had one while I was driving. I wasn’t planning on doing a podcast, all of a sudden, this was like, “Oh crap, this is a good idea!” I’m going to share with you guys, and I’m going to be doing it. It’s been interesting, a lot of people that I work with are trying to create lead magnets and all this crap. I feel bad because if you remember a year ago or a few years ago, Ryan Dice and Perry Belcher came out with this whole “This is what a funnel is. You have to have a lead magnet, then a tripwire, then a core offer, then return maximizer,” and all this stuff, right? Which is kind of true but kind of annoying because now everyone that I talk to is like, “Oh, this is my lead magnet. This is my core return maximizer offer,” and all these things, and it kind of drives me crazy because I don’t know. I hate when people act like business is 100% cookie cutter because it’s not. Everything’s a little different. People are like, “Russell, how come you don’t have your … Why aren’t you driving traffic to a lead magnet? Why are you driving directly to your free book offer?” I’m like, “Because my free book offer gets three times conversion opt-ins as do any kind of lead magnet.” Someone else, one of our coaching clients last week, they had this really cool funnel that some people built for them and their lead magnet was boring. It was costing them $18 to get an opt-in. Then, their tripwire was not that cool. Their core offer … This is all based on their philosophy … was awesome. I was like, “Dude, get rid of all the other crap and sell the core offer. That’s what people want. Why would you hide your sexiest thing, the thing that’s going to get people to actually respond to your ads? Make that the offer.” He’s like, “But I thought I had to have a lead magnet and a tripwire,” and all this crap. Anyway, so there’s my little rant for the day. You don’t. You’ve got to find the coolest thing that’s going to get people to respond and that’s what you lead with. Always. Sorry, that rant wasn’t supposed to come up either, but there it is. Anyway, with that said, for me, I lead with my sexiest thing, so free book offers, webinars, things like that. After awhile, if you’ve been promoting something for a long, long, long, long time, it starts getting what we call ad fatigue, where the more and more people have seen it, it gets more expensive, so you have to change the ad, change the landing page, all sorts of the things, or what I like to do now is start putting in bridge pages, which are basically a squeeze page. A page to get somebody interested and get their email address and then we can follow-up with them and sell them the main things we want to sell again. The problem is it’s kind of a pain to go and create all these op- in pages and lead magnets and all that jazz, right? I was thinking. This is what spurred this whole podcast. I was driving here and I was thinking about a blog post that Steven did. Steven is our blogger over at ClickFunnels. He was on an episode of Marketing  In Your Car. He’s from Australia, he’s awesome. He wrote this one, it was 14 Tools for Funnel Hacking. Something awesome like that. It was a blog post. I was like, “Crap, dude, that should be an opt-in page.” “Hey, who wants the 14 best tools for funnel hacking? Opt-in here.” They give me their name and email address. I redirect them to the blog. Now I’ve got them on my email list. I can sell them Click Funnels, I can sell them whatever else I want, right? I was thinking how easy is that? I don’t even have to create this content. I can go to Youtube, find the videos in my market that get the most views and that video can be the opt-in. I’m like, “Hey, free video at Robert Kiyosaki, telling you why” blah blah blah blah blah, whatever. People opt-in. I send them the Youtube video of Robert Kiyosaki talking about whatever, and then boom, now I’ve got them on a list and I can start selling them my stuff. Isn’t that easy? One of my big a-ha’s I learned from Neil Patel when he came out here to Boise is that … I used to think he was writing blog posts based on keywords or whatever, and he’s like, “No, I go to BuzzSumo.com, I search my keyword, I find out what articles are already being shared and I write another article almost identical to those.” I was like, “Oh, that makes a lot of sense.” Just go to BuzzSumo.com, find the articles in your market that have been shared 100,000 times and have 18,000,000 reads, and that might be something that people in your market are interested in, so why not just make this landing page offering them that blog post for your email address. Use the same title that they’re already using because it’s proven to work, and boom, now you’ve got these new lead magnets. I hope you guys got that because it’s pretty powerful. I’m going to be busting out a crap-ton of landing pages here that aren’t going to take hardly any time at all, and all they’ll do is opt you in, redirect you to that landing page and then you’ll be added to my list and I’m going to sell you cool stuff that you need and want. This works in other markets, too. Let’s just say you’re a brand new beginner. You’ve got nothing, right? Let’s say you’re like, “Hey, I want to be in the …” What’s a cool market? You want to be in the almond milk making business and I say that because this morning I made almond milk, which is awesome. I’ve never made almond milk before but I did it and it was one of the coolest things ever. I don’t think there’s really a market for that, but let’s just pretend like there was because there should be because it’s amazing. It tasted way better than regular almond milk and it’s not going to kill you because there’s some ingredient in regular almond milk you buy at the store that will kill you all. Just FYI, learn how to make your own. It’s really fun. You have to buy a $6 sprouted seed bag or nut bag or something. That sounds horrible. Anyway, that’s the only thing you need is that and almonds. Anyway, it’s pretty awesome. For a $6 investment, you can make your own almond milk. All right. Back on track, Russell. Sorry, my ADD brain is flying. The snow is not helping. The thought of Marshmallow Mateys is keeping it going. All right, so sorry you guys. I’m sorry I’m putting you through this. Back to focus. We decide we want to go into the almond milking market. We want to sell the crap out of people who want to learn how to milk almonds. First thing we want to do is go to BuzzSumo.com and we search almond milk and we find out that there’s this blog post that they say has been shared 150,000 times about how to make your own almond milk. People are going nuts about almond milk. I go to Clickbank.com and I find four more products about how to make almond milk, almond cake, almond flour, almond blah blah blah and I’m excited. Then, I go to Click Funnels, I set up a really quick landing page that’s called Almond Milking Secrets and then I’ll have a little thing underneath it from Meet the Parents. It’ll have that little clip where what’s-his-name is like, “I can milk anything with nipples,” and then the other dude’s like, “Well, can you milk me, Focker?” I’ll have that clip underneath the thing so it’ll be funny and will make it go more viral. I’ll have an opt-in. Then, boom, I’ll go to Facebook. I’ll target almond milking people, and they see this landing page saying, “Hey, here’s my almond milking secret.” There’s this funny video from Meet the Parents. They opt in, boom, I redirect them to the exact blog post article that already has a billion views because you know that’s what people want. I’ve got a follow-up sequence now where I start selling them almond milking products, almond making flour, almond making whatever else. Now I’m in the almond business overnight. Now people are buying. Now I can ask them what they want and I can make my own product. Boom, now I’ve got a huge business. You see how that works? That’s for the almond market. Imagine if we did that in a market that was actually making some money. It’d be pretty cool, right? Anyway, I hope that helps because this is a strategy you should use no matter what. If you don’t have a business yet, this is how you could start a business very, very quickly. If you do have a business, go out there and find all the viral, crazy articles in your market. Blog posts, Youtube videos and things like that, and just ask for name and email address. Share those with people and boom, you’re in. There you go, guys. That’s what I’ve got for today. Hope that helped. I’m jumping in to go and get my cereal and I will talk to you guys all again maybe tomorrow. Who knows? If not, we’ll talk to you guys soon. Thanks everybody. Bye!

Black Heart Gold Podcast

You might remember how we kind of dismissed Chick-Fil-A as completely overrated and thoroughly mediocre a couple of weeks ago.  Many took umbrage, but none did so with the class and charm of Senator Blutarsky, proprietor of Get the Picture, keeper of the Mumme Poll, and fan of all things Georgia Bulldog.  It was an issue that needed resolution, so Blutarsky joined us for the Season Four premiere of Black Heart Gold Podcast.  There's some playoff stuff here, too, because he's probably written more on the issue than anyone. Also, there's a new theme song.  Just FYI.
