At the start of the 90's, as a way of refreshing the way they worked, the members of R.E.M. all tried playing different instruments. They also brought in guest musicians and vocalists. And, for the first time, Michael Stipe tried writing a love song. The result was a hit song, and their first album to reach number 1 in the U.S., Canada, and around the world. Randy Renaud has the story behind Out of Time, released 34 years ago this week, on the Chronicles of Rock.

There are times when you run out of time. When the time crunch hits, how do you consistently publish your podcast each week? I RAN OUT OF TIME My calendar got tight this week. Recording and publishing this episode became a challenge. I typically record my podcast on Saturdays. On Tuesday we have our Podcast Profits Accelerator calls. Most of my coaching calls are on Thursdays. This week, we suddenly had visitors coming to town. Then, I had some last minute travel come up. Next thing I know, I'm running out of time to get everything done. It takes creativity when you run out of time. We moved the Podcast Profits Accelerator call to Thursday. My mastermind changed to Saturday. Luckily, one of my clients moved a couple days as well. Those moves freed up time time to get business done. But what happens with the podcast episode? I still need to publish that. When you run out of time, there are a few ways to still publish an episode. WHO CAN HELP The first thing you can do is find someone who can help you. I recently read The Road Less Stupid by Keith J. Cunningham. In the book, Cunningham talks about being more productive by doing only the things in your circle of genius. Delegate everything else. YOUR PRESENTATIONS To create an episode, what content can you repurpose? Presentations you've given to other groups can make good content. Gary Vaynerchuk often uses his keynote speeches for podcast episodes. Alex Hormozi will use recordings of his q&a sessions for episodes. I've done "ask me anything" sessions on Facebook and used those as podcast episodes. SUMMIT INTERVIEWS When you run out of time, summit interviews make great podcast content. I hold two summits each year. During that summit, I interview 23 different experts. Those interviews become podcast episodes. People can attend the summit and get all of the content plus ask questions. Or they can wait while the content drips out over time. With nearly two dozen interviews, I have almost half a year of content to use as necessary. PLAN AHEAD Planning ahead helps you avoid running out of time. Work a week ahead. When you run out of time, you already have the episode recorded for this week. Get ahead of the game. You can also record an emergency episode. This is an evergreen episode you use in case you have nothing else. GUEST HOST One solution few consider when they run out of time is a guest host. Find another expert in your niche who complements what you do. Ask them to host your episode this week. You can also share an episode from other podcast to expose their show to your audience. You would simply record an intro and explain. OTHER INTERVIEWS Have you been interviewed on other podcasts? You can use those interviews when you run out of time. You've shared great content with other hosts. Surely your audience would benefit from those conversations. Use one of those interviews as an episode of your show. PICK ONE Those are six solutions you can use when you run out of time and can't find room in the schedule to record a new episode.   If you don't have a mentor who can take your hand and walk you every step of the way, go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply, click the button and apply to have a chat with me. We will develop your plan and see how I can help and support you to achieve your podcast goals.

House, groove, and Samoan-Māori soulstress La Coco has today shared her shining new EP INTO THE LIGHT - alongside a brand new single ‘Follow Me (The Remake)'! Fresh off the Powerstation stage performing alongside Nathan Haines earlier this month, the Tāmaki Makaurau-based star is sharing her warm and radiant new collection of songs. Oozing deep pockets of house groove, dreamy vocals, and a fusion of old-school RnB, soul and gospel inspired by the Detroit sound - La Coco is taking Aotearoa electronic music to the next level with her new EP INTO THE LIGHT.  “The house influences bring a sense of movement and rhythm, while the gospel-RnB vocals offer depth and emotion,” says La Coco. “INTO THE LIGHT is energetic and spiritual, capturing moments of connection, reflection, and celebration - making the EP feel like an intimate journey of faith, love, and unity.” Already, La Coco (Latoia Sasa-Tepania) has made some serious waves across Aotearoa - she's released three EPs, received the 2020 Waiata Māori music award Best RnB Album for OUT OF TIME, and she's had several Pacific Music Award nominations. Not to mention her notorious collaborations with the aforementioned Polynesian Hip Hop legend POETIK, as well as Atjazz, and more.  Made with the support of NZ on Air, today's EP continues La Coco's impressive run of collaborations - with the artist working alongside DJs, producers and arrangers Gene Rivers and Matt Thorburn to bring the project to life. The process began in Gene's home studio, before the trio headed to No Filter Studio in Grey Lynn, with engineering and mastering from Christian Mausia.  “This project represents who we are as a unit,” says Gene. “Faith, community and a passion for soulful underground music coming together!” Join the Whānau on Instagram, Facebook & Tik Tok.

This week's match-up pits The Presidents of the United States of America's "Lump" against Weird Al's "Gump"...but is it really a face-off if the original is two thirds of the way towards being the parody? What is the age of Al-wakening? What's the difference between "unserious" and "unpretentious"? Are butt-adjacent references the Yankovic equivalent of a Hitchcock cameo? And did Al have any choice when it came to his subject matter back then? Watch out for those shifting matrices; it's an all-new ep of MASTAS.

The album went to Number 2 on the Billboard charts, went 4 X platinum and sold over 18 Million copies worldwide. R.E.M. known for college music had just exploded with their last album "Out Of Time" with the help of the single, "Losing My Religion." They decided to make this new album to sound like nothing else contemporary and filled with non-R.E.M.-type songs. The result was this masterpiece filled with songs about, loss, death, mortality, transition and more. The album was a group effort with guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry using all sorts of instruments and sounds to make the music while songwriter and vocalist extraordinaire, Michael Stipe provided the moving vocals and lyrics to this essential album of the 1990's. Considered by many as perhaps R.E.M.'s best album, the album contains many of R.E.M.'s best songs, like Everybody Hurts, Man On The Moon, Nightswimming and Find The River and more. The album featured six singles and videos, which were played on MTV on heavy rotation. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. Mit "Automatic for the People" haben Michael Stipe und R.E.M. 1992 versucht, an den unglaublichen Erfolg ihres Vorgängeralbums "Out Of Time" anzuknüpfen. Thematisch gesehen ist "Automatic for the People" deutlich düsterer als der Vorgänger. The Rolling Stones made a huge impression on The Wolf & Action Jackson as teenagers and their music has been the backbone of their rock n roll journey for decades.  We first saw them on Steel Wheels as teenagers and have explored every chapter of their catalog like rock n roll archeologists.  Though I vowed not to chase after the Stones anymore years ago, the opportunity to see them in Hyde Park while living in London was too much to pass up.  Celebrating 60 years of live music, Saturday June 25, 2022 in Hyde Park was the first time the band played London with out Charlie Watts.  In front of 85,000 fans, including the 8 year old Wolf Cub, the Stones played tribute to Charlie and showed they weren't just a legacy act but still the best in the business.Action & I run through the setlist, the grounds, the crowd, the Keith songs, the getting in & the escape at the end.  It was a special night in London and I'm glad I was there.  Should I go again on July 3?
