Why are billionaire men headed for space? Why is parenting in football still such a taboo when star players want to be with their newborn babies? Why does it matter that women can't be members of one of the most powerful member clubs in Australia? And who actually gets to be 'smart' in this world? These are just some of the questions asked in this week's episode of The Women's Agenda Podcast, along with an interview with Bri Lee, regarding her latest book: Who Gets to Be Smart. This week on the Carolina Snowflakes Podcast we’re wondering what happens when white people’s “wokeness” goes too far? We know, we know. You’re thinking ‘Is that even possible?’ and we’d wager that YES, not only is it possible, but sometimes it’s kinda sorta hilarious. And honestly, there’s no better place to see an excessive show of social awareness than in the beautifully progressive city of Asheville, North Carolina. Now don’t misunderstand. We’re both fans of Asheville and we’re both super lefty liberals with strong progressive views, which we’re coming to terms with, but sometimes all the catering and tip-toeing and safe space holding is a bit much. We start this week’s examination of Asheville’s “performative wokeness” with the telling of a true story involving a missing child from the area. Thankfully, the child was found safe and returned home. However, we noticed the handling of the child’s gender-identity by the local media, police and even the kid’s own mother to be odd at the very least. Granted, it’s hard to know what the right call is during an emergency situation, but is outing or misgendering an otherwise non-out kid the right move? Tune in to learn more about what happened in this unusual story and to hear our thoughts on the matter. All this said, we acknowledge that there are times when being lefty and woke and vocal about sensitivities is necessary and warranted. Case in point, the firing of Roseanne from her own television show after she got loaded on Ambien and made a racist fool of herself on Twitter. She had it coming. But what about the times when the most vocal of the lot turn their shouting towards individuals who aren’t necessarily making racist fools of themselves, but simply aren’t “woke” enough for the people around them? Where is the consensus in these sorts of “attacks” on white people by other white people? Most importantly, who is benefiting? These are important questions to keep in mind when the Twitter mobs begin their 140-character assaults. We close this week with another eyebrow-raising Asheville story, except this one is still ongoing and it’s been ongoing for quite some time. We’re talking about the damn Vance Monument. While we applaud the city’s condemnation of the racist man behind the name of the monument, we can’t help but wonder what the heck is taking so long to do something about it. Covering the towering phallic monument with a black condom-looking tarp to the tune of $20,000 is an expensive (and hilarious) way to make the city’s unsightly appendage even more visible. We guess they wanted to play it…safe? Tune in to hear our laughter-filled takes on these stories plus more as we examine why it’s always funny in Asheville. In most marriages, the family home is the single largest asset that they have. More likely than not, it is going to be a major point of contention in reaching a final distribution of marital assets. The issue only becomes more complicated when the parties had children during the marriage as the children will also be affected by this decision. A Conversation Between African-American Author, Mark Winkler, and Dr. John Schinnerer This episode is an attempt to provide a way forward through the increasingly divisive topics of racism, white privilege, conscious and unconscious biases, how to identify them and how to address them. This episode is an effort to invite white people to come alongside black people; to increase their knowledge around racism; and to seek ways to take positive actions to support racial equality. It also an attempt to extend an open hand in support of people of color. The Evolved Caveman is committed to anti-racism. This is an attempt to join with Black people and other people of color. Now is the time when we anti-racist white people need to commit to having intentional conversations with the people in our lives and on social media who might be conflicted about the protests because of the narratives of violence and looting outlined by those with other agendas. We need to start these uncomfortable, yet critical, conversations. In this special bonus episode we look at what's going on with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in real time. Does The GOAT have one more magical run in him at the age of 43? The first 12 games of the 2020 NFL season have brought us an odd couple in Bruce Arians and Tom Brady. The Bucs come down the 2020 season with a 7-5 record and slightly damaged but still realistic Super Bowl hopes. To get back home to play the Super Bowl in Tampa, the Bucs will have to play three playoff games on the road. First, they must finish off the season strong and make it to the postseason. That depends on improved chemistry between Brady, who likes to control games with a short passing game, and Arians, who believes in the high-wire act of throwing down the field. Do they need marriage counseling? We take a real-time look, including commentaty from guests and Hall of Fame coaches, Jimmy Johnson and Bill Cowher. FROM THE EPISODE: I'm not gonna wait to give you my opinion in the "Who Gets the Blame Game". I put it directly on Bruce Arians. And although Brady has at times made uncharacteristically bad decisions and bad throws, The Bucs' coach has not put him in the best position to succeed. When you sign The GOAT, especially in an old GOAT, you structure the offense to focus on what he does best. Keep the throws within 25 yards and between the numbers with an occasional deep ball. Develop and establish a strong running game. Lots of play action to freeze the linebackers and motion to catch the defense in a mismatch. Adjust the scheme to match the personnel. Don't force the personnel to fit the scheme. Brady has won Super Bowls with offensive talent not even close to what's been assembled in Tampa, but he had the benefit of Bill Belichick. The Bucs however, just line up with one back, three wide receivers, and a tight end and rarely create deception. That's Arians offense. Brady simply lines up in the shotgun or under center, reads the defense, takes his three, five, or seven stop drop, and then so many times it appears he's just chucking the ball down the field inside and outside the numbers, rather than looking at it underneath the receivers. Wait, what?! How does that make any sense?! That's Arians' "No Risk It, No Biscuit" offens; a high risk, high reward approach. Yet Brady this season has thrown some of the worst and most inexplicable interceptions of his career. If Ariens is indeed "The Quarterback Whisperer", as he bragged in the title of his book, let me ask this loud and clear: What the heck is he doing? Is he that stubborn? Has he not watched what Brady has done best over the last two decades? He has a strong arm, but he doesn't throw it like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and that's not going to change. And as much as he's defied age and NFL history, Tom Brady still is 43 years old.

In this episode we pay attention to the deep and traumatic roots of Black Lives Matter and unpack the layers of how to respond effectively as individuals and within communities. I dialogue with mental health professional, Ornge trauma team lead and anti-racism trainer, Tom Walker. After the murder of George Floyd the public outcry continues to be a powerful voice that is awakening the world to the injustice of systemic racism that so many have turned their backs on for too long. At this critical moment while witnessing continued acts of social injustice and violence against Persons of Color – it is important that we take pause to understand what it means to Bear Witness while engaging in right action moving toward meaningful solutions. I am personally in awe of the continued courage and persistence of those directly participating in the Black Lives Matter protests happening in the U.S. and around the world. Those who are putting their voices and actions forward, are speaking out clearly about what has to change in our perceptions, in our daily actions and in the way we create societies that will truly respect and include everyone with dignity and equality. It is no doubt, hard for many to focus and listen deeply to the painful voices of the #BlackLivesMatter movement. There is much shame in "white privilege" and there is longing for some to turn away. It is important to address one's own views and be uncomfortable with the reality of racism in our lives. This is the moment to grapple with the reality of our inaccurate perception of being "nice normal folks, in a nice normal world". This is simply not always true, and with this limited perspective we may fail to see the experiences of friends, neighbours and colleagues that are confronted with racism every day. We will discuss and explore: Why #Black lives Matter accurately represents the issue and Why "All Lives Matter" phase is a distraction. What #Defund the Police, actually means and how it could benefit all including policing services. Michael Moore does a great job explaining this. Also related is "8 Anti-Racism Policing Policies that cannot wait". What the Anti-Racism Experts like Reni Eddo-Lodge, Robin DeAngelo, and Resmaa Menakem (author of Notice the Rage; Notice the Silence" ongoing.org) have to say. What White Fragility is (Robin DeAngelo coined the phrase) and knowing when it strikes. Using "Love, Kindness and Wisdom" to help us through this. Resmaa Menakem provides incredibly meaningful guidance on this. Why Anitifa is NOT the same as #Black Lives Matter and why you need to know this. This episode is an attempt to provide a way forward through conversations across race about the difficult topics of racism, white privilege, conscious and unconscious biases, how to identify them and how to address them. This episode is our effort to call in white people to increase their knowledge around racism in its historical and present contexts and engage in positive action to support Black Lives Matter. We need to start these uncomfortable, yet supremely important, conversations. Ultimately, most established professionals seem to agree that any fears of losing significant business to amateurs are largely unfounded anyway. As adult content creator Maia Rain told InsideHook back in April, “Longevity in the sex work industry is rare. We can expect to see quite a few abandoned accounts as newbies decide it’s more than they bargained for.” Moreover, while the current wave of OnlyFans interest has frequently been attributed to the massive spike in pandemic-era unemployment, it bears keeping in mind that the tradition of cash-strapped individuals seeking out sex work as an alternative source of income is as old as sex work itself. CRAFT Leading factual producers reveal how they tackled projects of scale … and scale doesn’t always mean big budget. Leading factual producers discuss and demystify the oft-used term ‘scale’. From giant crews, fixed rigs and far-flung locations, to leading a tiny team shooting across a long timeframe – scale calls for precise decision making in the development process and in designing your production model. What are the different production approaches that can be scaled to get the most out of the story and budget? Do you go big, long, lean, broad or deep to best access your story? How can you invert your production approach on the same story material? Debbie Cuell, Jocelyn Little and Ben Ulm’s careers embody the full spectrum of scale, from big blue-chip to lean ob-doc. They will dissect making recent and upcoming series Ed Stafford: First Man Out, Old People’s Home for 4 Year-Olds, One Born Every Minute, Who Gets to Stay in Australia and Wild City. Moderator Sarah Thornton (Network Ten) springboards this conversation from a Network commissioning perspective. Scale used to mean big budget but what does it mean in the current factual market?
Last week video surfaced of a young black man, 25-year old Ahmaud Arbery, being pursued, then shot and killed by two white men while jogging in a suburban neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia. The video prompted the arrest of Gregory McMichael and his son Travis McMichael on May 7 -- over two months after the Feb. 23 incident. With the killing of yet another innocent black person for "appearing suspicious,” director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center Ibram X. Kendi asked the question "Who Gets to Be Afraid in America?" in a piece for The Atlantic. Kendi joins us to discuss that question and the case of Ahmaud Arbery.

The show nailed the standard white American male theatre director so well, I found I had fantasies of kicking his head down the road a few days later. Forgive me the violent imagery but I guess I’m a little bit furious. American Moor is a show about an actor grappling with the weight of Othello. Caught in a tug of war between the demands of the racist American Theatre system and his African American peers, the character rails and resists. He wants to rage against the injustices that rain down but he keeps himself in check. He also attempts to audition for the role. To read more of Who Gets to Rage in American Theatre? The G Word: A New Film Project About What It’s Like to Be Gifted A Conversation with Marc Smolowitz Marc Smolowitz is an award-winning film maker with over 50 successful films in his portfolio. His new project is called The G Word, which discusses the economic, cultural, and gender diversity of our nation’s gifted and talented population. Marc’s film highlights the educational challenges, as well as the social isolation and emotional sensitivities these children sometimes face. The project reveals a robust community of families and educators who are working hard to meet the needs of gifted children. The director highlights a very special school for profoundly gifted students who are twice exceptional - a must watch for every educator - so inspiring! Throughout his work, misconceptions of giftedness emerge, as well as the tremendous possibilities (and challenges) for this very special group of kids. • Reach Marc via his website • Marc would love for you to follow him on Twitter! Last fall, Nike released a groundbreaking ad featuring the former N.F.L. quarterback Colin Kaepernick. His kneeling protest, which started in 2016 as a response to police brutality, was reinterpreted by social media, celebrities and Nike itself to mean something that doesn’t always match the intention of his original protest. So what does it say that a multinational corporation has aligned itself with a social movement? And are we O.K. with this form of “Kaepitalism”?Discussed this week:"Samson et Dalila" at the Metropolitan OperaJennifer Lee Chan’s tweet showing Colin Kaepernick not standing for the national anthem (Aug. 27, 2016)Colin Kaepernick explaining why he won’t stand for the national anthem (Aug. 28, 2016)"Colin Kaepernick and the Question of Who Gets to Be Called a 'Patriot'" (Wesley Morris, The New York Times Magazine, Sept. 12, 2016)Nike’s ad featuring Colin Kaepernick (September 2018)"Nike’s Colin Kaepernick ad sparked a boycott — and earned $6 billion for Nike" (Alex Abad-Santos, Vox, Sept. 24, 2018)"This Could Be the Next Step for the New, Socially Conscious Nike" (Sarah Spellings, The Cut, Sept. 6, 2018)"Nike Is Facing a New Wave of Anti-Sweatshop Protests" (Marc Bain, Quartz, Aug. 1, 2017)

The rise in citizen journalists and bloggers has resulted in a wave of controversy over the coveted press pass and media credentials. Traditionally, those working in the mainstream media receive a press pass from their employer containing their name and photograph, the name of the media organization and contact person, as well as certification that the employee is an authorized representative of said media organization. Media credentials go a bit further and vary from agency to agency. Some may require a complete background check, others may require only a home address, social security number and a photocopy of a driver’s license, and almost all require the credentialed person be a verifiable member of the mainstream media. Press credentials can get a reporter, photographer, or photojournalists into everything from concerts and major league baseball to the White House and can allow crossing the yellow police tape that seals off the area of a crime or accident scene. Credentials are often needed for entering private space and government functions that are not considered public. While press credentialing is most often a non-issue for media professionals, it is a growing concern for citizen journalists, bloggers, and even non-profit news organizations. Some organizations won’t consider issuing credentials to bloggers and non-profits and others will give consideration to those meeting certain criteria. The Senate Press Galleries, for example, bars non-profit news organizations from membership. It requires that member news organizations be chiefly supported through advertising and subscriber revenue, essentially eliminating non-profits because they are primarily supported through donations. The American Bar Association, however, will consider bloggers and citizen journalists who can authenticate their status. According to the ABA website, “Because of the unique nature of this event, bloggers or other citizen-journalists must represent well-established, law-related or legal technology-related outlets as determined by ABA Media Relations staff.” A credentialed reporter can sometimes cross police lines and have access to interviews with those close to the crime or accident. Non-credentialed reporters do so at their own risk. There has been a growing number of arrests involving citizen bloggers and citizen journalists, and it has spurred a wide national debate over who should qualify for privileged access. While professional journalists are educated in the ethics of the field and are aware of what they can and cannot do, bloggers and citizen journalists with no journalism education or experience can find themselves tangled in lawsuits or tossed in jail. The high-profile “Constitutional Clayton” blogger case is an example of the ethical line being crossed. Several months ago Madison, Mississippi Police arrested Clayton Thomas Kelly, 28, of Pearl, on a charge of exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Kelly is accused of allegedly sneaking into St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, where Rose Cochran, wife of U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, has resided since 2000, suffering from progressive dementia. Kelly, a political blogger, posted a video on the Internet that included a picture of Rose Cochran. Three others were also arrested in connection with the case. The case, and others like it, have presented a new problem for the “new media” and the weight of government transparency against breaking the law to get a story. A 2014 study from the Digital Media Law Project at Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society and the Journalist’s Resource Project at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy, “Who Gets a Press Pass? Media Credentialing Practices in the United States,” performed a quantitative examination of media credentialing in the United States. It surveyed the experience of more than 1,300 newsgatherers of various kinds throughout the country in their efforts to obtain media credentials from different types of credentialing organizations from 2008 to 2013. According to the survey results, one out of every five respondents who applied for a credential was denied by a credentialing organization at least once. Certain categories of applicants are more likely to be denied than others: freelance journalists were significantly less likely to receive media credentials than employed journalists. Photographers were more likely to be denied than non-photographers. Respondents who identified themselves as activists were more likely to be denied than those respondents who did not. A Google search will return many websites offering press passes and credentials for a fee. Be wary of these offers as chances are they won’t be accepted. And keep in mind that many events require press credentialing directly from the government agency or organization itself and not from the news agency or any online organizations.

Episode 39 - "Impact of Growth" From the ancient philosophers, to modern day scientists, much has been said about the relationship between human population growth and its effects on environmental destruction, famine, and death. Modern policy makers and political leaders have taken inspiration from these debates to craft initiatives aimed at curbing population, but through these efforts a host of human rights abuses have emerged worldwide. With millions of people left in the wake of forced sterilization and other population control programs, we are compelled to ask: what role, ultimately, does population play in a rapidly deteriorating world? Last week I explained how I learned of a strategy from Doug Sandler of the Nice Guys on Business show where the goal is to bring on guests who would be a good client for you (assuming you're podcasting as part of your business). Doug's business is Turnkey Podcast. There is little focus on your audience and more emphasis on your guest. The presenter also requires that their potential guest subscribes, to their podcast and gives them a five-star review to be considered. This was the part that I thought was a little "black hat." I wanted to reserve my judgment until I spoke with Doug. Today I have Doug Sandler on the show to share his insights into his strategy. Because Of My Podcast I'm Much Better at Public Speaking: Bill Huchison 1:45 Bill Hutchison is a full-time missionary and has a podcast every now and then Bill is asked to speak in churches. Today Bill shares how he had to think on the fly when he hit a technical snag, anbecausese of his podcast he was able to pull it off. Preparing for Episode 600 4:55 I'm doing an "Ask Dave Anything (except podcasting questions)" will be the topic for episode 600. Send in your questions (with the title Episode 600) by January 1st, 2018 Your Target Customer as Your Guest Part II Doug Sandler Interview 7:00 Feedback from last week's show In today's discussion you hear: 9:23 Doug did his podcast for 16 months without making a dime. He went from 20,000 downloads to 1.2 million in the second 16 months. His guests are his target clients How does his stop his guests from being boring? Why his potential guests MUST give him a five-star review and subscribe to the show Does having guests on your show ensure 1.2 million downloads? Doug didn't get into podcasting to make friends Summary: There are no rules in podcasting? Will I look into using my podcast to get clients? I already do. The whole point of the School of Podcasting is to exhibit my expertise, and show you I know how to create a show that engages your audience. I might try this strategy in the future and do something like Natalie Ectal from BizChix.com where she records coaching calls and uses them as episodes. While I force potential guests to subscribe, rate, and provide a five-star review? No. Where Is Dave Going? 35:09 Podcon in Seatle Dec 9-10 Podfest in Florida Feb 8-10 Social Media Marketing World 2/28- 3 /2 San Diego Fixing a Podcast Episode After Your Published It 36:07 There is nothing worse than waking up to an inbox full of emails from listeners letting you know there is a mistake in your latest episode. This could be silence, or an edit point that you thought you took out (but didn't). You panick. Oh No! What do I do? Here is what you do. Do NOT Create a New Episode If you're using Libsyn.com go to Content > Previously Published and edit the Episode. There you can use the replace option to upload the repaired version of the episode. I strongly suggest you use the exact same file name. This way you don't have to wait for your episode to propagate across the Internet. Your feed has the name of the file, and when someone who didn't download the episode with the mistake presses download, they get the repaired version. If you're using Blubrry, you can go into PowerPress and upload your repaired file (and it will replace the old file). Again, I strongly urge you to use the exact same file name. Who Gets the File? When someone gets the first (wrong) version of your file, the app they use doesn't know there is an issue. Consequently, the app won't download the new version (because to the app, it's the same file). But I Want Everyone to Get the New Version! The only way to have all of your audience to get new version is to create a completely new episode (and delete the old episode). This might annoy your subscribers (who typically are the people who get your episode first as it's automated). They may have already listened to and delete the episode, and then all the sudden here it comes again. What's the Best Solution? The best solution is to ALWAYS listen to the ENTIRE episode before uploading it to your media host. In other words, the best way to fix the mistake is to not make it in the first place. With that in mind, we are all human and it will happen. I personally just replace the old version and if someone tells me about the mistake I apologize to them and explain they now have a collectors edition. How Can I Help You Need one on one conslting? Celebration Sunday concludes the Impact WRBC series with special music from the Praise Team and Band ("Unstoppable God", "Great I Am", and "Oceans", led by Alyssa McClure). The sermon is followed by the Worship Team singing a rousing rendition of "How Can I Thank You Enough". Who Gets to Build the House? We often find ourselves wanting to do GREAT things for God (2 Samuel 7:1-3). However, God is the parent and He wants to do great things for us (2 Samuel 7:4-16). God has ALREADY done great things for us and God wants to do ever GREATER things for us. So, how should we respond to God's offer to us? (2 Samuel 7:18-29). We should respond with AWE, with PRAISE, with EXPECTATION, and with COURAGE.

Who Gets the Credit?
I have been having a little back-and-forth with Rev. Dosho Port about some statements made on his blog, in a post aptly titled "Who Gets to Say Anyway?" ... http://www.patheos.com/blogs/wildfoxzen/2012/01/what-what-is-it-isnt-and-who-gets-to-say-anyway.html There are many Paths up and down the no-mountain mountain, each suited to sentient beings with differing needs. I believe that there are students who may benefit from Koan introspection alone, and those who will not. There are student who will benefit from Shikantaza alone, and those who will not. And there are students who may benefit from some combination, and those who will not. All beautiful paths, suited (or not) to different people. So I was rather saddened and surprised to see Dosho express a seemingly narrow view of Koan teaching, stating ... Soto priests without koan training comment on koans regularly (including myself in my nefarious past). ... Now that I’ve done some koan training, I confess to this hubris in my own past and from my current perspective would like to encourage my Soto non-koan trained friends to consider the possibility that there might well be something in a koan that they have not seen from their shikantaza perspective. I wrote him back to say I agree with his comment that Shikantaza practitioners might not see or teach Koans as Dosho's school or sect teaches, but that, in turn, those other folks "should consider that there may be something in Koans that they have not tasted in their dreams without piercing the purity of Shikantaza". When I informed Dosho that our Treeleaf Community would soon begin dancing with the Book of Equanimity (the Shōyōroku), a collection of Koans much cherished in the Soto world for nearly 1000 years, Dosho wrote: Seriously, I suggest that you don’t. From what I’ve read of your views on koan and shikantaza, I wonder if you might be misleading your community by working through koan with them – koan that you yourself have not worked through with anybody. Perhaps qualifying what your doing by saying that this is just your view…. Hmmm. Respectfully, that seems a very narrow vision of the Gateless Gate to Buddhist Truth! Dosho did not wish to continue the discussion on his own blog. So, I thought to respond here and invite Rev. Dosho or anyone to offer views (provided one doesn't omit the non-views too!) So, WHO OWNS THE KOANS? Today’s Sit-A-Long video follows at this link. Remember: recording ends soon after the beginning bells; a sitting time of 15 to 35 minutes is recommended.
