This week, we're going in-house. Asking whether there's a stigma attached to moving client-side. And more importantly, if it's deserved.Joined by industry experts Emma Sexton, founder of Inside Out, and Kieran Mistry, Head of Design at YouTube, we unpack what in-house creativity really looks like. Covering everything from work/life balance and stakeholder management to creative freedom and career progression. We hear from listeners who have witnessed negative perceptions of in-house from the industry first hand, and from some who have made the change and are reaping the benefits.Whether you agree with our guests or not, the truth is that in-house creative teams are on the rise. And they are not to be underestimated. If we're not prepared to park our preconceptions and collaborate, do agencies risk being phased out altogether? My guest for this episode is the brilliant Julie Lythcott-Haims., the author of the New York Times' bestselling, and in my opinion, majorly game-changing-in-the-parenting-space book, How to Raise an Adult. She wrote it after noticing that prospective college students at Stanford University, where she was dean of admissions, were being over-parented and as a result, were lacking the resources to develop the resilience, resourcefulness, and inner determination necessary for success. In this episode, Julie and I talk about about what it takes for a child to be successful—looking at how we define success along the way—and explore what we as parents can do to help our child develop the agency they need to become self-actualized adults. I loved having this conversation with Julie and am still noodling on the many takeaways and aha moments I experienced. I hope you get a lot out of it. Julie Lythcott-Haims' How to Raise an Adult has been published in over two dozen countries and gave rise to a TED talk that became one of the top TED Talks of 2016 with over 3.5 million views and counting, as well as a forthcoming sequel on how to be an adult, for young adults. Two years later Julie published Real American: A Memoir, a critically-acclaimed and award-winning memoir which examines racism through her experience as a Black and biracial person. Would you rather be a business owner or a top-tier business executive? On today's episode, host Mark de Grasse sits down with Kyle Porter, the Director of Strategy at Conklin Media, to talk about the difference between running your own business and becoming a top-tier company executive. Running your own business is not as star-studded as most people would like to believe. But still, the allure of being in charge of everything appeals to many people. On the other hand, most people cannot resist the steady salary and job security of full-time employment. There's no universal answer on whether you should go after employment or self-employment. The good news, as Kyle explains, is you can try your hand at both of these career paths and move back and forth as many times as you want. Tune in to learn the difference between an entrepreneur and a business executive. Discover how you can transition in and out of either career path and still be successful. The mother-daughter duo, Pamela Hirsch and Nicole Lawson, are the Co-founders of Baby Quest Foundation, a 501 c(3) non-profit organization. Pamela Hirsch brings over 15 years of business expertise as Co-founder of Baby Quest Foundation. Before co-founding the non-profit, Pamela was one of the original franchise owners of The Princeton Review, a national test preparation company. As Director of Affiliate Relations for Fox Broadcasting Company, Nicole oversaw liaisons between network and local affiliates. In 2011, Nicole left the entertainment industry to explore the third-party reproduction sector by working as a case manager for Alternative Conceptions. She later launched Abundant Beginnings Co., a surrogacy agency through which she guides people through the process of becoming surrogates or intended parents. Pamela and Nicole join us today to discuss how Baby Quest Foundation and Abundant Beginnings are spreading hope and assistance to people hoping to start and grow families. They recount how Nicole's pregnancy journey sparked the inspiration behind co-founding Abundant Beginnings and Baby Quest Foundation. They discuss how Pamela's business experience helped her navigate fiscal responsibility during Baby Quest's early stages. They also share the importance of surrogacy access and education and outline how Entreprenistas can get involved in the mission of Baby Quest and Abundant Beginnings. “Run the foundation as if it were a for-profit company with lower overhead costs being fiscally responsible.” - Pamela Hirsch If you're looking to take your business to the next level, join the Entreprenista League today at entreprenista.com/join. He advises hundreds of small- to mid-sized agencies on how to grow and become more profitable.Topic: Drew and Susan discuss their findings from the eighth annual Agency Edge Research Series, using input from approximately 1,200 clients in the U.S. spanning multiple industries. This study explores how clients feel about their organization's ability to endure the recession, the actions they've already taken, and how likely they are to make changes that could either positively or negatively affect their agencies.Five things you'll learn from this episode:The three segments of agency clients: the committed (25%), the concerned (42%), and the close (33%)How to determine which segment a client falls in to best serve them as an agencyThe challenges and opportunities created by clients with a strong preference for in-person agency relationshipsWhy brands are choosing to work with more than one agencyHow the Great Resignation affected agencies and brandsQuotables“We've seen a consistent trend where folks are working with more than one agency. Drew talks about this a lot where it's really not sort of a one-agency world anymore, and agencies need to work with each other on behalf of a client that they're collaborating with.” — @SusanBaier“When an agency says, "We're a full-service integrated agency," clients scratch their heads and say, "How could you possibly be good at everything?" And so, I think the agencies that have specialized, like you have, Jason, give themselves and their clients both an advantage and a relief that you're not trying to be everything to everybody.” — @DrewMcLellan“It's very difficult to see clearly the label on the outside of a bottle when you're inside the bottle.
