I answer your questions on the year's political lessons, the struggles of young men and handling heat on the show. The end-of-year Ask Me Anything episode has become a tradition on the show. So as 2025 comes to a close, I'm joined by Claire Gordon, the show's executive producer, to answer your questions about an eventful year — how my thinking on the Trump administration has evolved, how well the Democratic Party has played its chips, what I think it means to be a Democrat right now, whether “Abundance” is centrist, how politicians might address adriftness of young people, how I've handled the criticism the show has received and how many packets of Splenda I consume in a day.Note: This conversation was recorded on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and does not reflect more recent developments in Congress's review of the Sept. 2 boat attack.Mentioned:“Don't Believe Him” by Ezra Klein“The Supreme Court Is Backing Trump's Power Grab” by Ezra Klein“What if Trump Just Ignores the Courts?” by Ezra Klein“The Republican Party's NPC Problem — and Ours” by Ezra Klein“Abundance and the Left" by Ezra Klein“The Emergency Is Here” by Ezra Klein“Stop Acting Like This Is Normal” by Ezra Klein“What Were Democrats Thinking?” by Ezra Klein“The Goon Squad” by Daniel KolitzDragonriders of Pern Series by Anne McCaffrey and Todd J. CAFE stands for “Corporate Average Fuel Economy.” An easy definition, via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is a regulation: …[on] how far our vehicles must travel on a gallon of fuel. NHTSA sets CAFE standards for passenger cars and for light trucks (collectively, light-duty vehicles), and separately sets fuel consumption standards for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and engines. NHTSA also regulates the fuel-economy window stickers on new vehicles. Ending these regulations is part of complying with Trump’s “Unleashing American Energy” Executive Order and the [Transportation] Secretary's “Fixing the CAFE Program” Memorandum, according to the department’s homepage. On Wednesday, the president rattled off the investments in the United States that the auto companies have made since Trump 47 began in January. Assistant U.S. Attorney Blasts Los Angeles County After It Votes to Ban ICE Agents from Wearing Masks Los Angeles County's far-left Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to advance an unprecedented ordinance that would ban law enforcement officers, including federal immigration agents, from wearing masks while working in unincorporated areas of the county. The proposal passed 4-0, with only Supervisor Kathryn Barger abstaining. A final vote is scheduled for next week, and the ordinance would take effect in January 2026, according to the LA Times. Legal experts say federal immigration agents would not be required to follow a county mask ban. The county's top lawyer, Dawyn Harrison, has said she suspects the federal government will likely argue that the county law violates the Constitution, which states that federal law takes precedence over conflicting local statutes.  https://twitter.com/USAttyEssayli/status/1996040656733814854?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1996040656733814854%7Ctwgr%5E71ecedc2cdf5f5bfec40c6e10a4a461e8ffa25fd%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thegatewaypundit.com%2F2025%2F12%2Fassistant-u-s-attorney-blasts-los-angeles-county%2F   by the media and local politicians. The “war on narco-terrorists” that Secretary Hegseth is bragging about is being run on a legal foundation poured years before Trump ever touched the Oval Office desk. Obama normalized the presidential kill list. He campaigned in 2008 promising rule of law, transparency, and restraint. He delivered a tenfold increase in drone strikes; a White House “Terror Tuesday” meeting where officials literally flipped through PowerPoint slides picking who lived or died; and a legal doctrine allowing the president to kill U.S. citizens without trial, notice, or judicial review. That doctrine – once unthinkable – is now standard operating procedure. Obama's Director of National Intelligence openly admitted in 2010 that the administration was targeting Americans based on vague criteria like whether a citizen was “involved” in a group “trying to attack us.” That’s not evidence… that’s vibes. When civil-liberties groups sued to force the government to explain the legal basis, Obama declared the entire matter a state secret. Meaning: the president could now kill you, and no court was allowed to ask why. The judiciary rubber-stamped it. Both parties embraced it. And the public largely applauded it. Then came the Awlaki killings. Obama ordered the drone assassination of: • Anwar al-Awlaki, an American cleric • Samir Khan, an American citizen standing next to him • Awlaki's 16-year-old son, killed two weeks later at a café The White House smeared the kid as a “21-year-old terrorist.” The next week a birth certificate proved he was a Colorado teenager with zero ties to extremism. The administration shrugged. Obama famously told aides: “Turns out I'm really good at killing people.” And Washington – media, political class, and voters – rewarded him. Fast-forward to 2025. Trump isn't inventing anything new in Venezuela. He's using the exact precedents Obama left behind: Unreviewable executive kill authority, expanded definitions of “enemy combatant,” secret memos. No congressional oversight, no geographic limits, zero court supervision. Obama created the kill switch. Trump just slammed it. If you cheered the drone program when your guy was doing it, you already endorsed what’s happening now. If you let the government redefine due process as “whatever we decide in secret,” you already consented to the next president weaponizing that power. And if you normalize extrajudicial force abroad, eventually it comes home. Obama built the architecture. Trump moved in. And Venezuela is learning what happens when a precedent meets a president with fewer brakes  EU corruption scandal could take down von der Leyen – Politico A corruption probe into former EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has thrown European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's position into jeopardy, with opponents preparing to turn the affair into a fresh push to remove her, Politico reported on Wednesday, citing officials in the bloc. Mogherini, who served as the EU's top diplomat from 2014 to 2019 and is now rector of the College of Europe, was detained on Tuesday. She was formally accused by the European Public Prosecutor's Office of procurement fraud, corruption, conflict of interest, and breaches of professional secrecy over an EU-funded diplomatic academy program. In the wake of the scandal, von der Leyen “is facing the starkest challenge to the EU's accountability in a generation,” with her rivals renewing calls for a new no-confidence vote, Politico reported. source:rt.com NATO Members Commit More Than $1 Billion to Purchase U.S. Weapons for Ukraine NATO officials from Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland pledged hundreds of millions more in U.S.-made weapons under the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) scheme, Ukrainian media reported. Amid Russian gains on the battlefield, they insist Ukraine must be armed “to keep the fight going.” The alliance offered these commitments while being accused of attempting to sabotage peace talks. Canada, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, and the U.K. all announced new contributions, pushing the total put toward U.S.-made weapons bound for Ukraine toward $5 billion this year alone. These newly allocated funds come at a time when many European governments, increasingly unpopular at home, are cutting domestic programs and warning of budget shortfalls. Source: thegatewaypundit.com Leaked Transcript of EU Conference Call with Zelenskyy Highlights Fear of Trump Securing Peace for Ukraine Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in Paris talking to Emmanuel Macron last weekend while Rubio, Witkoff and Kushner were meeting with Ukraine officials in Florida.  This telephone call is reported to have taken place the following day, on Monday. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and European Council President António Costa held a conference call. A transcript of the call was leaked to Spiegel, a German news outlet. According to the narrative the assembled group of EU leaders were discussing how the Trump administration was going to betray Ukraine in order to get a peace deal with Russia. The gist of the narrative sounds accurate, though some of the EU leaders are denying the specifics of the wording used. The EU is very worried President Trump may formulate a peace agreement then present the final terms to Ukraine without the EU being involved in the construct of the details. The EU is opposed to any peaceful end to the conflict, because the EU and NATO have positioned their collective economies to only benefit if the military spending continues; they are backstopping their spending with the confiscated Russian assets.   Source: theconservativetreehouse.com   Medical/False Flags https://twitter.com/disclosetv/status/1996567491334803864?s=20 [DS] Agenda https://twitter.com/WallStreetApes/status/1996550058809188740?s=20   “Ilhan and this group, they spent a lot of money” “So, the people that work for Ilhan (0mar) are actually counting the ballots, counting the vote?” “They (Ilhan Omar’s campaign staffers) become a manager, in the precinct too.” Somalians who don't speak English are also told out how to vote “They walk with you to the booth and then they vote. Omar's 2018 victory party was held at Safari Restaurant, co-owned by Salim Ahmed Said, now found guilty of pocketing more than $12 million in fraudulent reimbursements after reportedly serving “phantom” meals. A member of Omar's campaign staff has also been convicted in the same broader scheme. Critics note Omar publicly praised the program that later enabled the fraud, and that she maintained ties with several of the participants. Prosecutors say Minnesota's COVID-era meal programs operated with almost no verification, allowing widespread abuse through Feeding Our Future and affiliated entities. D’Antuono was also in charge of the Gretchen Whitmer fednapping case. It is on purpose. It is a feature, not a bug,” Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet J. Dhillon told the Just the News, No Noise television show on Wednesday night. “And the goal is to cram as many people on there and make voters who are not particularly engaged, make it easy for someone else to help them fill out their ballot and return it for them when they didn’t care enough to do it themselves,” she added. “What we can do at the federal government level is ensure that our federal election laws are observed, and that includes each state’s requirement to keep clean voter rolls,” she added. “That is a fundamental basic.” Dhillon spoke one day after her division filed lawsuits against six Democrat-run states — Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, New Mexico, Washington state and Vermont — seeking to compel them to turn over to the DOJ their voter rolls to be inspected for abnormalities, outdated names or noncompliant names. She also struck a deal last week with North Carolina to force it to review and fix over 100,000 voters’ names on rolls in that battleground state that were added without complying with state law. Dhillon said her office is now on track to force through litigation, settlement or voluntary efforts at least 26 states to clean up voter rolls. “We’re now in litigation with 14 states. So the six yesterday included Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, New Mexico, Washington State and Vermont. That adds to eight we already had going,” she said. His diatribe came as reports surfaced of ICE raids in the Minneapolis/St. Paul region targeting Somalis in the area. The Department of Homeland Security said that there would be increased focus on immigrant communities in the wake of the November 26th shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., which had no connection to Somali-Americans. This week: we compare the letter that just earned the former President of Honduras a pardon of his conviction for definitely being involved with narcotrafficking against the Trump administration's excuses for murder on the high seas of Venezuelans suspected to be involved with narcotrafficking--and if House Speaker Mike Johnson actually has a point in blaming Barack Obama for all of this. Matt then takes a quick look at Steve Bannon's petition for review of his conviction for contempt of Congress by the Supreme Court and explains how “safe third country” agreements now give ICE the power to deport asylum seekers to Central America without a hearing on their claims. Brad and Dan return with a packed Weekly Roundup that cuts through the noise of culture war headlines to get at what is really happening in American politics and religion this week. They start with the bizarre story dominating Congress: alleged Venezuelan narco boats, U.S. military strikes, and the growing scrutiny around Pete Hegseth's involvement. Brad and Dan unpack the legal and ethical questions raised by the operation, the bipartisan concerns over potential war crimes, and the way Hegseth's rhetoric is being weaponized in the larger project of authoritarian politics. As blame shifts within the administration, the hosts look at how these events fit into a longer pattern of circumventing democratic norms under the guise of national security. From there, the episode moves into the latest culture war flashpoint out of Oklahoma. A University of Oklahoma student, Samantha Fulnecky, received a failing grade on a paper centered on conservative Christian claims, and the incident was quickly inflated into a statewide moral panic. Brad and Dan trace how a classroom disagreement became a coordinated spectacle, how politicians and media personalities seized on the moment, and what the uproar reveals about academic freedom and the pressure educators face in a polarized climate. They discuss the difference between expressing a viewpoint and meeting academic standards, and why higher education has become a convenient battleground for Christian nationalist narratives. The hosts also break down the Supreme Court's decision to keep Texas's contested congressional maps in place for 2026. They examine the racial and partisan consequences of the ruling, what political leaders are saying in response, and how the decision fits into a broader assault on voting rights and democratic representation. Despite the heavy topics, Brad and Dan close with reasons for hope. They highlight ongoing pushback against authoritarian politics, communities organizing for justice, and signs that democratic accountability remains possible. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is no stranger to President Donald Trump's tariff-forward trade agenda. Greer served as chief of staff to Robert Lighthizer, the U.S. Trade Representative in Trump's first administration. But now, it's Greer who's at the helm of the president's tariff implementation strategy — one that has drawn both criticism and praise from surprising places.  “I've also had members of Congress come to me, people who maybe weren't fans of tariffs two years ago, and they said, ‘This is actually real money that's coming in that can be used to pay down the debt or pay for other things or finance our reindustrialization,” Greer said. In this week's episode of The Conversation, Ambassador Greer sits down with POLITICO's Dasha Burns to explain why trade policy defies political labels, the particulars of how deals are shaping up globally and the strategy behind reconfiguring seven decades' worth of international policy.  Plus, Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, joins Dasha to explain how the battle for school funding continues to unfold, the intrinsic relationship between education and democracy and why the well-being of students should be at the top of the president's mind. Independent U.S. Senate candidate from Idaho, Army veteran and telecom leader Todd Achilles returns to Independent Americans for a hard-charging Football Friday that cuts through the chaos. Todd and host Paul Rieckhoff break down Trump's unauthorized boat strikes and the unfolding Signalgate scandal, why Secretary Hegseth is “fundamentally unfit,” and how Congress has surrendered its War Powers as America edges toward a conflict with Venezuela. From ICE raids zip-tying kids at a rural Idaho horse track to a broken visa system that powers the state's only truly strategic industry—agriculture—Todd explains what this looks like on the ground for red hats, trucker hats, hard hats and cowboy hats across all 44 Idaho counties. He lays out a simple two-by-two matrix for understanding the Venezuela mission, why this should be a DEA and Coast Guard problem, and how misusing the military puts Idaho Guard troops and all Americans at risk. Paul and Todd go deep on why independents are the real solution to Trump, RFK Jr., Mamdani and the extremes of both parties—and how one independent veteran in the Senate could become the decisive fulcrum on confirmations, war powers and corruption. Todd details his David-vs-Goliath run against Senator Jim Risch—the fourth-oldest and one of the wealthiest members of the Senate who hasn't held an in-person town hall since 2009—and why national Republicans are suddenly “scared” of Idaho's independent wave. It's also Football Friday: Paul and Todd pick Boise State on the Smurf Turf, Texas Tech, Georgia and undefeated Indiana, and talk about why college football in Idaho is as local—and as political—as it gets. They close with “something good,” honoring D-Day medic and Native American hero Charles Shay, the powerful service tradition of Idaho's tribes, and the growing, hopeful movement of Americans breaking out of partisan trenches and declaring their independence. Because every episode of Independent Americans with Paul Rieckhoff breaks down the most important news stories--and offers light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Vindication Capitol Hill hearings on U.S. military strikes against Venezuelan narco boats. Clay and Buck analyze testimony from an admiral confirming that survivors of the initial strike were still “in the fight,” countering claims of a war crime. They highlight how this narrative is evolving in the media and why Democrats’ messaging on this issue may backfire politically. The segment includes sharp commentary on the fentanyl crisis, the devastating ripple effects on families, and the urgent need for a real war on drugs. Listener calls and talkbacks add perspective, including strong reactions to cartel violence and the human toll of addiction. Getting the Porridge Just Right Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy previews tomorrow’s major World Cup draw event at the Kennedy Center, a global spectacle coinciding with America’s 250th birthday celebrations. Secretary Duffy outlines the Department of Transportation’s critical role in ensuring smooth travel for millions of visitors, from upgraded transit systems to intercity connectivity. He also highlights the economic impact of the World Cup, projecting billions in revenue for hotels, airlines, and local businesses, and discusses President Trump’s involvement as a central figure in the event. The conversation shifts to modernizing America’s air traffic control system, where Duffy details a $12.5 billion investment to replace outdated infrastructure and transition from analog to digital systems by 2028. He previews innovations like air taxis, drone deliveries, autonomous vehicles, and even supersonic flight technology that could revolutionize travel in the next decade. Duffy also addresses the air traffic controller shortage, revealing a 2,000-person gap and offering insights into recruitment, training, and incentives for experienced controllers to stay on the job. Make America Affordable Again House Majority Leader Steve Scalise joins to discuss urgent legislative priorities before Congress adjourns for the year. Scalise emphasizes efforts to lower healthcare costs through expanded health savings accounts, association health plans, and increased competition beyond the Affordable Care Act. He previews upcoming bills on housing affordability, tax relief for overtime and tips, and the National Defense Authorization Act, underscoring a focus on reducing inflation and strengthening national security. Scalise also addresses the SCORE Act, aimed at restoring structure to college athletics, protecting student-athletes from exploitative contracts, and safeguarding Olympic and Title IX sports. Julie Kelly on Pipe Bomber Julie Kelly, one of the most prominent journalists covering January 6th, joins the show to provide expert insight. She calls the arrest a “massive scandal,” asserting that the FBI’s decision to shelve the investigation for years was deliberate and politically motivated. Kelly warns of significant legal ramifications, noting that exculpatory evidence was withheld from January 6th defendants while the DOJ pushed an insurrection narrative. The discussion also touches on Kamala Harris’s proximity to one of the pipe bombs, raising further questions about security lapses and media silence. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has been under fire for his continually evolving explanations and blame-shifting regarding a September attack on an alleged “drug boat” in the Caribbean. Following a report from the Washington Post, the Associated Press found that the Pentagon was indeed aware that there were two survivors after the initial attack on the boat — and still carried out a follow-up strike. At the same time, the Trump administration has gone from denying a second strike ever happened to blaming the second strike on an admiral. Pressure on the Pentagon is building and Nevada Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen is among the many members of Congress calling for Hegseth to resign. We spoke with Senator Rosen about Hegseth's failures and what she thinks needs to happen to protect America's service members. And in headlines, President Donald Trump pardons a Democratic congressman indicted on white collar crimes, Republican infighting escalates in the House, and ICE targets Somali immigrants in Minneapolis.Show Notes:Call Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Does Rashida Tlaib provide an example of what is possible through entryism, or does she remain an outlier who, despite her ideological consistency, has not made the party more like her? Conference championship weekend is here! Spots in the College Football Playoff are on the line, and not just for teams in Power Four conferences. Could we see two Group of Five teams in this year? Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey preview what they are most interested in this weekend. First, they preview the matchup between the nation's highest ranked teams. #1 Ohio State faces #2 Indiana for the Big Ten Championship Game. Although this game does not have much of an effect on either team making the Playoff, it may tell us a lot about what to expect in the Playoff. Then, it's the Big 12 Championship Game between #11 BYU and #4 Texas Tech. A win for Tech secures a first round bye, but is there a path for BYU to make the Playoff even with a loss in the title game? One of the guys thinks that may be possible. Lastly, they look at the ACC Championship Game and its impact on the CFP. Duke takes on #17 Virginia. Virginia will make the CFP if they win, but Duke coach Manny Diaz thinks that a 7-5 ACC champion Duke team would also make the field. Could this be the case, or would it pave a path for multiple Group of Five teams? The guys debate all of this and more.Later, Ross' Congressional Minute gives an update on the SCORE Act's progress in Congress, or more appropriately, the lack of progress. Ross explains why there has been another delay with the act and if there is any light at the end of the tunnel for its supporters. The guys discuss why there is so much controversy around this act and what needs to happen in the future for any progress to be made. Finally, Andy, Ross and Godfrey give their picks for this week's I've Got A Feeling. Their records have not been great this year, but maybe that will change this week. Georgia, Tulane and Western Michigan are this week's choices.Get ready for the Conference Championships with College Football Enquirer.(3:46) - Big Ten Championship Game preview(9:28) - Big 12 Championship Game preview/ Can BYU make the CFP with a loss?(15:10) - Can Duke make the CFP with a loss to Virginia/ expanding the rankings ahead of conference champ games(26:43) - Ross' Congressional Minute - The SCORE Act gets delayed again(53:07) - I've Got A Feeling picks Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:

Retired Brigadier General Shawn A. Harris is back on the front lines—this time in politics. From his grass-fed cattle farm in Rockmart, Georgia to the halls of the Pentagon, Harris joins Independent Americans host Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) to break down SignalGate, the deadly US boat strikes, the War Powers fight and the growing danger of sloppy, politicized military leadership. Running as a Democrat in Georgia's 14th Congressional District—the open seat Marjorie Taylor Greene is abandoning—Harris explains why leadership, integrity and service still matter in a district that's been defined by chaos, extremism and cable hits. He talks candidly about why he chose not to “change t‑shirts,” what it's like to have two sons still in uniform, and why independent and Reagan Republicans are lining up behind his campaign. Rieckhoff and Harris also explore whether Congress is quietly edging America toward another war in the Caribbean, whether the boat strike could rise to a war crime, and what real accountability for the current Secretary of Defense should look like. They dig into the Pentagon press rules fight, the New York Times lawsuit, the arrest of the January 6 pipe bomb suspect, and what “dead men don't talk” really means for intelligence and national security. Then, in a powerful “something good,” Harris salutes his hometown Early County Bobcats and the high school football coach who helped turn hopes and dreams into a life of service—sparking a heartfelt conversation about how sports, mentors and community can literally save young lives. Because every episode of Independent Americans with Paul Rieckhoff breaks down the most important news stories--and offers light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. Two days ago, Trump unleashed the ugliest, most bigoted stuff about brown and black immigrants. About Somalian-Americans. And his entire cabinet just sat there and nodded. Yesterday, he unleashed even uglier stuff about Somalian-Americans. And the Congress people and business executives just stood there and nodded. Silence is complicity. The entire Republican Party owns his racism, bigotry, and cruelty. So every election for the foreseeable future must be about him. Period. Hosted on Acast.
