But Dr. Amram had broken it down into 7 dimensions and 25 behavior characteristics that get to the heart of how to apply Spiritually Intelligent Leadership to not just your life, but your business. The book will make you think and rethink your view on leadership. And if you have an open mindset, it will allow you to realize that there is more to leadership than simply the physical, mental, and emotional aspects. We talk about what spiritual intelligence is and how it compares to emotional intelligence, how it is not limited to a religious doctrine or even a spiritual belief in God, and how it contributes to effective leadership and high-performing teams. We talk about why command and control leadership can work in battle but not so well elsewhere, the first step to develop and deepen your spiritual intelligence, and its role in an AI-powered world. You will love the insights shared and may look at your own leadership style in a whole new way. To access the episode transcript, please click on the episode title at TheEmpathyEdge.comKey Takeaways:While emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence are complementary, they are two distinct things.Spiritual intelligence transcends specific religions, spiritual experiences, and spiritual beliefs.Empathy is crucial to build teams no matter the type of leader you are. In battle, you need a certain level of command and control, but when you're not in battle you need that empathy and connection. Our bodies are energy. Because of that, we are connected to the sun. We are connected to life. We are connected to everything. In this episode of Thought Leadership Leverage, host Bill Sherman sits down with Yosi Amram, a political psychologist, CEO, leadership coach, and the award-winning author of Spiritually Intelligent Leadership: How to Inspire by Being Inspired. Yosi delves into the concept of Spiritually Intelligent Leadership, a fresh take on leadership that integrates spiritual qualities like passionate purpose, compassionate service, trust, gratitude, integrity, and humility into daily life and work. Yosi's journey began in Israel, where he was drafted into the military at 18, despite his pacifist leanings. The rigid military structure fueled his desire to create a leadership model built on humane values that support individual growth. This desire led him to the U.S., where he studied at MIT, launched companies, and ultimately burned out from trying to maintain control and inspire simultaneously. His burnout sparked a deep interest in psychology and leadership, which introduced him to the idea of spiritual intelligence through Dana Zohar's book "SQ: Connecting With Our Spiritual Intelligence" which was about rewiring the corporate brain. Determined to explore this concept, Yosi interviewed 71 spiritual leaders from various traditions to uncover universal themes of spiritual intelligence. He developed the first academically validated measure of spiritual intelligence and discovered that it accounts for 46% of leadership effectiveness. Now, Yosi's mission is to elevate Spiritual Intelligence to the same level of recognition and understanding as Emotional Intelligence. Looking forward, Yosi is exploring the intersection of spirituality and science, faith and reason, and the evolving role of historical religious traditions in our modern world. His quest is personal as much as it is professional, as he navigates his own Jewish heritage and its relevance in contemporary leadership. Three Key Takeaways: • Spiritually Intelligent Leadership: Yosi Amram introduces Spiritually Intelligent Leadership as a new leadership model that integrates spiritual qualities such as purpose, compassion, trust, and integrity into everyday decision-making and leadership practices. • Universal Spiritual Themes: Through extensive research with spiritual leaders across various traditions, Yosi found that spiritual intelligence is a universal concept, with common virtues that transcend individual beliefs and contribute significantly to effective leadership. • Validated Impact: Yosi's studies show that spiritual intelligence accounts for 46% of leadership effectiveness, highlighting its critical role in both leadership success and overall quality of life, much like the established concept of Emotional Intelligence. Yosi has found a section of thought leadership that is both interesting and impactful. Is your thought leadership hitting the same mark? If you are unsure this article by Peter Winick might help answer that question.

I was then able to work through them and not run away. One of the hardest emotions to feel is shame. I've carried my own shame and it's by being able to descend mindfully with presence into the dark that we are able to discover our sacred spark. Mindfulness is really the ability to go In and be open and be curious to these negative emotions. Thoughts On Breathing Breathing is one of the important things that help us connect to our life force. We feel our life force in two physiological ways. One is breath, and the other one is the heartbeat. If you look at many meditative practices, it's following the breath. It's calming and centering. There is an underlying principle: what is spirit? The word spirit in Latin comes from the root, the animating breath of Life. Bullying Story Regarding bullying, there are both sides. There is the bully, and then there is the victim of the bully. The bully is probably bullying because they don't know how to be skillful in order to get what they need. They also have a sense of shame or weakness underneath them that they are trying to cover. If they were more mindful, knew what was really motivating them, and addressed this inherent weakness that they're trying to cover up by being overly aggressive, then that would prevent them from bullying. You can think about it perhaps in terms of the yin and yang of leadership.”Episode Highlights:In this interview, Yosi Amram tells us how a leave of absence from his company was a blessing in disguise. The board of Yosi's company gave him a break because they felt he needed it. Initially, Yosi felt shame for being let go from his company, but later, it provided him an opportunity to find his identity and passion in psychology. Childhood Incidents:When Yosi was four years old, he learned from older boys that flicking someone's legs while they're running or walking could make them trip and fall. One day, he experimented on a boy in front of him. The boy tripped, scraped his knees, and started bleeding and crying. The teacher started yelling, asking who did it, but Yosi never came forward. This experience taught him the importance of not causing pain, suffering, harm, or violence to others. At age nine, Yosi went to a movie theatre without his parents and was molested by a stranger. This incident made him feel like there was something wrong with him, like he was damaged goods. He repressed his feelings about this experience and only addressed them in therapy when he was 40. Influential Groups:Yosi comes from Middle Eastern, Iraqi, and Jewish backgrounds. Middle Eastern Iraqi culture is emotionally expressive, warm, and highly hospitable. In contrast, Jewish culture emphasizes Socratic methods of debate for truth's sake and taking responsibility seriously.Cultural Influences:As Yosi grew older, his interest in spirituality deepened. He joined various spiritual communities, including Jewish Renewal, Buddhist communities, and a particular path called the Diamond Approach, which emphasizes inquiry and a love for truth. All these communities highlighted the importance of service.Cultural Epiphanies:When Yosi moved to the US, he experienced culture shock; people valued personal space and privacy, which was not the case in Tel Aviv or the Middle East in general. He grew up in a one-bedroom house with his grandparents and parents. What Brings Out the Best in Yosi? Yosi believes in directness and honesty. He values relationships where people are honest, open, and direct, built on a foundation of kindness and positive regard. He also appreciates regular mutual feedback to keep relationships clear and clean.Soapbox Moment:Yosi encourages everyone interested in becoming more empowered and inspired leaders to check out his book, Spiritually Intelligent Leadership: How to Inspire by Being Inspired.Support the show
Growing up in a Jewish home in war-stricken Israel, Yosi Amram received early exposure to religious fundamentalism, war, and trauma that came from them. Now, Dr. Amram is a licensed clinical psychologist, a CEO leadership coach, author, and a pioneering researcher in the field of Spiritual Intelligence. I recently had the chance to talk to Yosi about his life experiences, research, advice for business owners and employees who would like to implement his insights on spiritual intelligence into their life and work, and his book “Spiritually Intelligent Leadership: How to Inspire by Being Inspired”. In our conversation, we talk about the following: What spiritual intelligence is and how it differs from and complements emotional intelligence How you can implement principles of spiritual intelligence into your work if you are unhappy, stressed, or considering a career change How leaders can use principles of spiritual intelligence to make positive changes in their organization and challenge unhelpful bureaucratic procedures How his background in the military, CEO, and Harvard MBA helped influence his teachings and practices on leadership How to start and run a business that implements principles of spiritually intelligent leadership Yosi not only talks about how you can incorporate principles into your spiritual life; but also your work and professional life to make changes on an individual and organizational level. We also spend some time talking about how to implement these principles to international war, including the current conflict between Israel and Hamas based on what he learned in the Israel military.

It doesn't mean there aren't things that suck, challenging, hard even, that is a part of life for sure. It's that a commitment to well-being is stronger, and the ability to be resourceful is more available, therefore moving through things is just different. Overcoming Trauma to Spiritually Intelligent Leadership with Dr. Yosi Amram, Ph.D. A clinical psychologist, executive coach, and pioneering researcher in spiritual intelligence, Dr. Yosi Amram, Ph.D., works with CEOs to enhance leadership power by tapping into and developing one's purpose, passion, and authentic presence and by creating and mobilizing deeper meaning through work. Growing up in a Jewish home in war-stricken Israel, Dr. Amram was exposed at an early age to religious fundamentalism, war, and the trauma that comes with them both. Not only a bystander to it all but Dr. Amram was also drafted and served in the Israeli Air Force for three years. His desire for a more compassionate and humane leadership approach ignited through his military service. With an MBA from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Clinical Transpersonal Psychology from Sofia University, Dr. Amram differentiates spiritual intelligence from religious beliefs. He leverages his past experiences and incorporates them into his work with individuals, couples, and groups dealing with trauma-related experiences. The author of the new book Spiritually Intelligent Leadership: How to Inspire by Being Inspired provides a compelling roadmap that equips leaders with the means to connect with the true source of their authentic power and presence deep within themselves. Listen in as Dr. Amram and I sit down to discuss his time in Israel, how he overcame trauma to help others do the same, his new book, and the spiritual path that has led him to find his way to FEARLESS HAPPYNESS!

Episode 117 - Being Inspired and Impressed by Debbie Bean In this episode of my marketing show, I don’t talk about marketing at all. Instead, I talk about overcoming challenges and coping with crises with a friend of mine from Franklin, the town in which I grew up, Debbie Bean. Debbie, 66, has experienced more than her fair share of health issues, the most severe being the loss of her hands and feet due to a very serious case of streptococcemia she suffered in late 2006. She was so sick at the time that the doctors were telling her family to say goodbye to her because she was not going to make it. Says Debbie now about that incident, “It changed my entire world. Instead of being so darned independent, I found myself dependent on everyone for everything. But every day thereafter, I’ve tried teaching myself how to do what I need done. I try to reinvent the wheel to make things work for me.” Not only did Debbie survive that terrible scare, though, she also has beaten cancer and undergone a handful of other successful surgeries. And as if all that weren’t enough, both of Debbie’s parents’ lives were cut short tragically, her mother’s due to cancer and her father’s as a result of an auto accident. Today, Debbie works as an administrative assistant, attends the Franklin United Methodist Church on Sundays and drives herself around town, enjoying life as a single mother of two daughters and a grandmother of four. Her attitude is as positive and optimistic as anybody’s you’ll ever know, which makes you feel good all over just being around her. She says she can either laugh or cry, and she chooses to laugh. I say I’m sure you’ll love listening to our conversation as much as I loved having it. Get ready to be inspired and impressed by Debbie Bean.

Join me and Marjorie Warkentin on today's Being Inspired episode on the power of PLAY. As Marjorie reminds us, there is a lot of heaviness in our world right now. Sometimes that leads us to believe that we don’t deserve to be happy. But, as she shares with us in this episode, that’s not how she sees it anymore. When we are filled with joy and choose play and create loving relationships, we are a transformative power and can make a difference to the suffering in the world in a way we can’t if we aren’t going into that place of joy and love and play.In this episode, we explore what play means, what it looks like, its benefits, and where you can find it or infuse it more in your life. In addition, we talk about how to confront the voice in your head that worries there isn’t enough time for play or it’s irresponsible, frivolous, and selfish.Perhaps my favorite quote from today's show is when Marjorie says, "The more I play, the more play will find me."Listen in and be inspired to find more play in your life.Marjorie is a nature lover, Queen of Women's Circles, Writer and Life Coach with years of life experience and wisdom to share. She is a Playful Spirit. A book, coffee and conversation lover. A photographer, maker of yummy soups, and she loves live music, especially Jazz and the Blues. She is enlivened by connection with other women. Marjorie is a retired nurse who now uses her gifts to facilitate leadership workshops and coach those who are looking for support to move from a place of victim to creating a life that is filled with pleasure and purpose. She is a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, sister and a daughter of parents who are embracing life in their 90's. Join me for this exciting episode with my first male guest on the Being Inspired show—Hanz Kurdi! In this episode, we explore how we need to learn to unlearn in order to clear away the illusions. As Marianne Williamson says, "Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we have learned here. The spiritual journey is the relinquishment—or unlearning—of fear and the acceptance of love back into our hearts." Hanz "The Spiritual Programmer" and I dive into this concept and look at the importance of learning to unlearn, why obstacles are there to begin with, and how we can get back to our original, authentic, and innate self—the blank canvas, if you will. There are so many gems of wisdom, quotables, and takeaways in this inspiring conversation. Please forgive some of the echo and feedback—the truth was simply resonating too loudly!! Tune in and be inspired that “shift happens.” Hanz founded The Elevate Institute, home of the Human Acceleration Program, to deeply engage everyone with all aspects of their life and help promote their optimal selves as defined by them. He is a forever student of human development and behavioral psychology. As an Elevation Coach for over 10 years, he helped employees develop realistic goals and plans focused on their overall wellbeing. In addition, he has the communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills needed to ensure that clients are served well and see the results they need. Aside from starting 2 companies and a non-profit incubator, Hanz also has over 10 years of experience as an executive and senior level director with 3 exits in high tech. He aligns his coaching skills with his corporate background in delivering optimal self development programs across the globe. And he gives the best hugs. Tune in for a new inspirational episode of Being Inspired as you kick off the new year! In today’s episode, Songya Kesler and I explore two important themes, especially as we begin a new cycle: CLARITY and ALIGNMENT. We look at what it means to be human and live a meaningful existence. Songya Kesler is a Business & People Architect who consults on strategy and leadership for both businesses and individuals. She's the creator of the Life Canvas, which helps individuals establish a 1-page life strategy. Every decision Songya makes is guided by two key questions: How can I do the most good? and Where can I have the most impact? I am so grateful to start off 2017 with another inspiring conversation with such a beautiful light-worker. Check her out and learn more about the many gifts she has to offer the world at: www.songyakesler.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
