Why is it dangerous to "fake it till you make it" when it comes to your Working Genius? In episode 85 of the Working Genius Podcast, Pat and Cody explore the pitfalls of "faking it till you make it," particularly in the context of the six Working Geniuses. They discuss how pretending to possess certain geniuses—especially Galvanizing, Enabling, and Tenacity—can lead to burnout and dissatisfaction, even if it seems successful in the short term. They also emphasize the importance of aligning work with your natural geniuses for long-term fulfillment and success. Topics explored in this episode: (00:51) Faking It Undermines Team Trust* Faking a role outside your genius may temporarily fool others but drains energy and joy.(3:48) When Observation Misleads* People often mistake visible productivity for true capability and fulfillment.* Internal processes like Discerning or Inventing can't be copied just by watching someone do the work.(7:36) Success in the Wrong Game* Achieving mastery in an area outside your genius often leads to burnout, not true fulfillment.* Mimicking Tenacity or Enablement might bring professional praise but leaves people feeling empty.(11:24) Misalignment at Work* Many early career roles overvalue G.E.T. work, unintentionally alienating people with W.I.D. geniuses.* Discovering the Working Genius framework helps reframe these challenges as fixable, not personal flaws.(15:12) The Cost of Faking It* People often carry unnecessary guilt when they struggle in roles that don't match their genius.* Leaders can free people from burnout by helping them realign with their natural gifts.A note for new listeners/viewers: In this episode, Pat and Cody dive deep into the Six Types of Working Genius, a model that helps you discover your natural gifts and thrive in your work and life. This week we bring you a coffee talk episode with Cody Thompson, from the Table Group. We breakdown their working genius model and discuss how we have implemented within our business structure.
Many men today have abdicated their self-sovereignty in favor of a sovereign empire. We've entrusted ourselves to the state rather than to God. As we seek to lead our families how do we reclaim the role God gave us to take dominion of the earth, to rule over it, and to be fruitful and multiply? In the second half of our interview with TikTok influencer, Cody Thompson, he shares with us some scriptural and philosophical insights that will both challenge and encourage you. We discuss the ways he and his family have started to accept responsibility for growing their own food, staying healthy, and embrace honest money. We focus the conversation primarily on Bitcoin as Cody unpacks it's significance to us, as Christians, and self-sovereign men of God. On today's episode of All Gas, No Brakes, Scott Barglof goes in depth with Modified ace Cody Thompson. Cody is in his second year of Modified racing after having unparalleled success in the Northern Sport Modified division.Cody is from Sioux City, Iowa, and runs a Team Harris Auto Racing Chassis, racing for his own team under the Cody Thompson Racing banner. In 2019, Cody had 44 feature wins and picked up three track championships: US 30, Park Jefferson Speedway, and Buena Vista Raceway. After a breakout season in the Northern Sport Modifieds, Cody made the move to Modifieds in 2021 where he not only captured the National Modified Rookie of the Year, but amassed 20 feature wins. His most memorable racing moment is erasing a 1.5 second lead during the 2019 Duel in the Desert and picking up the win by over five seconds, using patience to let the car come to him.Cody made the trip to The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this year for the Workin' Man Nationals. When asked about the track conditions from years past, he states how track prep guru Mike VanGenderen has made the track his baby and has turned around the surface to a smooth, slick track. Mike's investment into the racer's thoughts behind the track prep means a lot to Cody, because it shows the racer's opinion and thoughts matter. Cody has a lot of momentum moving into the 25th Annual Duel in the Desert from this season. To prepare, he tries to approach each race as “another race”. Using the practice night to go through his notes and compare, he uses that as a starting point to set up the car in hopes of continuing his successful season.Harris Auto Racing has been a huge part of the success Cody has had during his racing career. The input Harris Auto Racing collects from its drivers is a huge benefit to the success of each of the drivers. “Not everyone is on the same stuff, everyone's a little bit different,” Thompson said. “That's what's nice is the race car reacts to all that, and that's huge because not everyone is the same, or drives the same, and that's what's cool about these chassis.”Find all things Cody Thompson at www.codythompsonracing.com.To hear Episode 13 of All Gas No Brakes, listen here or Subscribe on your favorite podcast player.
Ahead of Saturday's mock game, we heard of Tyler Lockett taking advantage of a new offseason career in real estate and his thoughts on the new wide receiver coach. Rookie Boye Mafe talked about the feeling of getting back into pads ahead of the game. Pete Carroll offered up some insight on Mafe and some of the other newest Seahawks and his latest thoughts on the quarterback competition. In the mock game, Tariq Woolen gave up the only passing touchdown of the game. However, he was in position to make the play and it took some incredible concentration (and maybe some luck) by Cody Thompson to come up with the catch. Geno Smith and Drew Lock offered up their reflections on their performances in the mock game. Support the show Get in the Flock! The Seattle Seahawks closed out their 2021 season with a win to finish the year at 7-10. Even though they're the only team in the NFC West not going to the playoffs this year, they're likely to be the only team to be able to finish the season with the victory. We don't really think the Niners, Cardinals or Rams are going to win the Super Bowl, do we? Pete Carroll talked about the win and also responded to questions about his future with the team. Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett and Rashaad Penny highlighted some of the best plays of the day, along with a punt attempt that was fumbled by the Cardinals and recovered by Cody Thompson. I get a lot of salutes from parents and spouses, friends of the troops, and often even from other troops. But there's something special about getting a salute from a sibling. Salutes from siblings are special because you just know that younger brother or sister really looks up to their proudly serving sibling. And if it's an older brother or sister sending it in, then they have a different kind of pride in their "kid" brother or sister doing something really important. Today we salute Austin Thompson of the United States Army. Austin's older brother Cody Thompson sent this salute in to me. Austin has been in the Army for just over a year now and Cody says he's like a different guy already. Cody is so very proud of his little brother Austin. He wants him to know that the whole family loves him and is proud of him. He also wants to say that the whole family loves all of our troops. Austin has made a huge commitment to himself and to the nation. He's serving in the Army so that his brother and his family can continue to enjoy their freedom. Earning the respect of his older brother? Well that’s just a bonus. Today we salute Austin Thompson of the United States Army.
Cody Thompson has seen a lot of success recently in the IMCA Sport Modified Division. This week we have a chat with him as he makes his way home from Arizona.

Not every day a guitarist with a PhD in Biophysics who studied airflow in honeybee hives using 3D computer models, and hydroponics for outer space, drops by. Performing acoustically, his tough-luck inspired soul-healing blues, and telling the story of Swampy & The Note Troll (featuring producer Josh Maitland), is Cody Thompson, with percussionist Bamalamb. https://www.audible.ca/pd/Radio-Records-Rockstars-Audiobook/B07JGF7PS7
This episode is a little bit different, we'll call it "podeutainment", where I teach a guest (and you) all about the mysteries of Podcasting; or at least as good as I know at this point. Andrew Birkett of Atheris Games has been a long time supporter of The Cardboard Herald. Recently, though, he's been making a big impression in board game media through his own coverage, which can be seen in outlets including Casual Game Insider. Well Andrew is embarking on his own podcasting adventure "Games To Glory" with Cody Thompson of Gold Nugget Games, but first he needs to learn how to podcast! WARNING: THIS IS A RECRUITING-CENTRIC EPISODE College football’s early signing period is over, which means teams around the country have another month and a half for the next signing period. Most of the classes are filled up, so Alex brings on Mike Karpinski as a guest to talk about the MAC’s classes, some players worth highlighting, some players that are still out there and why Ball State’s class is actually pretty impressive. Also, Cody Thompson will be returning to Toledo for a fifth year! Tuesday Night Lights is featured on the Free on Saturday blog. Drew Anderson is a damn baller. In seven overtimes, Buffalo put up 68 points and lost to Western Michigan (71) in the highest-scoring game in FBS history (139). In that game, Anderson, who is the backup quarterback at UB, threw for 597 yards to set a single-game passing record in the MAC. He also threw for seven TDs, 0 INTs and wasn't sacked at all. Good thing we previewed this game in the last episode, right? Don't worry, there was more stupidity to go around. Cody Thompson's hurt and out for the year, so that's a drag. Ohio, the MAC East favorite, lost to Central Michigan and Bowling Green got its first win of the season over Miami. I guess this means the new top dog in the East is... Akron? Wait, what? Alex and Fitz are hanging out with you to preview the midway-point of the regular season (yeah, already!). Most of the games are washes, but keep your eyes peeled for the 3:30 p.m. slate. We'll talk about how important the Western Michigan at Buffalo game is for both squads and why Buffalo's rush defense is going to be a key factor in this one. Also, if the "September Heisman" was localized to the MAC, the winner is easily one of Cody Thompson or Logan Woodside. Or Darius Phillips. Anyways, somebody's bound to have a huge October. Nathan Rourke's a strong candidate here with the defenses he'll have to face. WARNING: This is a longer podcast than we had hoped for. Please say nice things.
