In this episode of Franchise Addicts, we dive headfirst into one of the most controversial blockbusters of the 21st century: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).Set in the Cold War era, Crystal Skull sees Indiana Jones pulled into a Soviet conspiracy involving a mysterious crystal skull, ancient civilizations, secret military experiments, and the lost city of Akator. Directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by George Lucas, the film marked Harrison Ford's return to the iconic role nearly 20 years after The Last Crusade — and instantly split fans down the middle. We break down the entire plot, analyze the alien vs. mythology debate, discuss the infamous “nuke the fridge” scene, the introduction of Mutt Williams, the return of Marion Ravenwood, and whether the movie's sci-fi turn fundamentally misunderstands what makes Indiana Jones work. We also examine the film's historical inspirations, cinematography choices, heavy use of CGI, and how Crystal Skull reflects 1950s Atomic Age paranoia and B-movie science fiction. Is Kingdom of the Crystal Skull an underrated adventure weighed down by internet backlash — or a miscalculation that lost the soul of the franchise? Where does it rank among the Indiana Jones films, and how does it compare to Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, and Dial of Destiny?Whether you love it, hate it, or still argue about aliens, refrigerators, and monkeys, this episode is a full, honest reassessment of Indiana Jones 4 — no nostalgia goggles required.

Andor is officially the most expensive Star Wars project to date, IN HISTORY, even with George Lucas era in the mix. 705M for Andor is insane. Kenobi got only a 90M budget in comparison, while the sequels were roughly in The Acolyte territory of cost over 200M. Who is making these decisions up there at Disney and Lucasfilm? How can Andor of all shows get almost 8x Kenobi? How can it be more expensive than Solo with all the reshoots included? Tax cuts, in my opinion, from this Forbes article, is why... But then why not Kenobi? Why no the sequels? Surely Andor couldn't have been THAT expensive compared to all the other massive team led projects Disney Star Wars has had... This is even more expensive than the Mandalorian. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

¡Hola, Foseros! Así nació Path of the Lightsaber. Kenny no vino a adaptar nada. Vino a crear. The fall of the Jedi wasn't because of the Sith — it was because of themselves. In The Making of The Phantom Menace, George Lucas revealed that by the time of Episode I, the Jedi had already lost sight of the Force. “The Jedi think they're doing good,” George said, “but they've become arrogant. They think they know everything about the Force — and that's exactly when you lose it.” In this video, let's break down George Lucas's real reason for the Jedi's downfall — their blindness, fear of change, and obsession with control. The Order had stopped listening to the Force, serving politics instead of compassion. This is the real story behind the Jedi's failure, and the hidden tragedy of The Phantom Menace. Enjoy! The bizarre, incoherent ‘Star Wars Holiday Special' was broadcast only once, on 17th November, 1978. Despite CBS signing up the stars of the original movie - Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, the plot swapped epic battles for a bizarre variety show filled with cameos from Harvey Korman, Bea Arthur, and Jefferson Starship. The story revolves around Chewbacca's family as celebrate “Life Day” on their home planet, Kashyyyk. George Lucas' initial vision was for a sombre, character-driven tale. But instead, it evolved into a chaotic blend of guest star sketches, dodgy green screens, and musical numbers. Lucas reportedly hated it so much he wished to destroy every copy with a sledgehammer. Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain why Fisher ended up singing a new song to the tune of John Williams's Star Wars theme; consider how Disney attempted to scrub the memory of the Special from the Star Wars canon after acquiring Lucasfilm; and contemplate the wisdom of making Wookies - who speak an unintelligible language, with no subtitles - the stars of the show… Further Reading: • ‘The Star Wars Holiday Special: A Retrospective' (Empire, 2009): https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/star-wars-holiday-special/ • ‘Star Wars Holiday Special: Inside the Confusing Christmas Special' (Thrillist, 2017): https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/star-wars-holiday-special • 'The Star Wars Holiday Special' (CBS, 1978): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxtSX1lg8rE Love the show? “Do ghosts ask for prayers?” This episode delves into the intriguing question of whether ghosts, potentially souls from purgatory, seek Masses for their peace. Additionally, we explore why God might allow hauntings that seem like repetitive imprints, the moral implications of workplace automation, and the fascinating intersection of Catholic themes in the Star Wars universe. Join the Catholic Answers Live Club Newsletter Invite our apologists to speak at your parish! Visit Catholicanswersspeakers.com Questions Covered: 02:32 – If Ghosts may be souls from purgatory whom God has permitted for a particular reason to appear and interact with the living. Why don’t all ghosts ask for Masses to be said for them? 14:45 – Why, in your opinion, would God allow hauntings which act as a non-interactive recording or psychic imprint, which seem to repeat over and over again in the same place, and may even be left by people who are still alive (as opposed to singularly unique and interactive apparitions of the dead)? 21:23 – What are the moral implications of using new technologies in the workplace, knowing that it could lead to other positions becoming obsolete and other employees being laid off? Example: Someone needs to use AI or other forms of automation to meet the requirements for their job, but too much success could convince a CEO to completely replace another human's position with technology 32:20 – Does the phenomenon of dead bodies being incorruptible only happen to saints, or does it happen to non-Catholics as well? 34:18 – Can you explore Catholic themes and spirituality in the Star Wars universe? The chosen one, the Force, jedi order, symbolism, sacrifice of Vader, redemption, etc. I know George Lucas is hardly Catholic, but perhaps he unwittingly drew on the things found in the largest entity in the universe…the Catholic Church. Thanks, and may the Force be with you! 43:15 – Are mine and my husband's guardian angels friends? Is my guardian angel friends with my children's angels? Or is my angel like a mentor to my children's angels? 48:10 – If one’s guardian angel were asked to console Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, would the angel be allowed to do it?

In an interview this week, Oscar-nominated actor Adam Driver revealed that he, along with Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh developed a script for a new Star Wars movie called “The Hunt For Ben Solo”, which was ultimately rejected by Disney's top brass. So what gives? We look at every angle of this story to break it all down, along with listener  reactions and fired-up opinions. We pay tribute to legendary artist Drew Struzan with Erik Sharkey, director of the documentary “Drew: The Man Behind The Poster” and discuss some of his iconic Star Wars movie posters. Will we see the original 1977 version of Star Wars back in theaters for its upcoming 50th anniversary? We analyze some leaked info and imagery that may suggest the answer is yes. Plus, George Lucas and Mellody Hobson recently were interviewed about the soon-to-open Lucas Museum in LA. We review the highlights along with some comments from George about life after Star Wars.
