Life definitely has peaks and valleys. It's easy to have joy and gratitude when things are looking up. But can we keep our high hopes when it gets tough, like really tough? That's the question we dove into after learning some great tips to keep a positive mindset in the middle of our "challenges" from Robin Shear, the Joy Coach, in our last episode, 'Inviting God into Your Mess.' In this episode, we decided to put her advice to the test. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for us, we were able to test this against some pretty stinky situations in our personal lives. We'll take an honest look at both our success and failures here. Finding gratitude and joy isn't always a walk in the park, and that's totally okay! We explored the importance of giving ourselves and others grace. Also drawing from both our personal experiences and expert guidance, we discussed how to support others through rough patches, finding that balance between empathy and uplifting encouragement. Spoiler alert: There are definitely things we discovered that we can all do for ourselves and to support others, that can make tough times a bit easier. Welcome to another enlightening episode of The Coaching Podcast. In this episode, we embark on a journey to uncover the elusive joy and the art of reconnecting with what truly matters. Our exploration takes us through the domains of courage, curiosity, and connection, and we learn how these qualities are essential for personal growth. The gift of mindfulness takes center stage as we delve into the power of being present for ourselves and others. Moreover, we delve into the fascinating realm of the Enneagram, a tool that helps us understand our deepest motivations. Our guest, Charmian Tardieu, a seasoned leadership team coach, and strategist, shares her wisdom on creating psychological safety, fostering empathy, and inspiring positive change. Join us as we navigate through these profound concepts, gaining insights that can transform not only our professional lives but also our personal well-being. Here is a summary of the key points; 2.03: Worst coaching moment: Coaching your client's husband. Trust that the coachee knows best (be mindful of your own emotions as a coach). 5.21: Best coaching moment: No amount of self-improvement will make up for any lack of self-acceptance. 9.22: Sliding Doors: Being pushed out of the golden cage and choosing courage over comfort. Just keep going, believe in your dreams and it may just turn out to be the best decision of your life. 15.31: What Makes a Great Coach? 3 C's Connection - Create a space where the coachee feels truly heard, accepted, loved, safe, and that they belong. Curiosity - Have a genuine curiosity (the opposite of judgment). You trust that the coachee is creative and resourceful. Courage - Have the courage and tap into your intuition to interrupt the coachee and stop them in their story and get them out of their heads (tap into how the body is feeling). Work through the emotion that is behind the story. 20.23: How do we create lasting change? 23.25: Paint a compelling picture of what you want to achieve to help solidify your habits in order to create lasting change. You must have a powerful WHY! Atomic Habits by James Clear "You don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems." 25.25: Enneagram Profile - The Enneagram of Personality, or simply the Enneagram, is a description of the human psyche principally understood and taught by its proponents as a typology of nine interconnected personality types. 28.39: Integrative9 for the Enneagram as mentioned by Charmian as her favorite to help you understand what drives you - Follow the link below to take the test and receive a report: https://www.integrative9.com/ 29.00: What is psychological safety? Cricial in today's workplace and it is about giving everyone a space and a voice at the table (even if what I say is not what others want to hear). Amy Edmondson – the Harvard Professor who is the world expert on psychological safety – plus her amazing book “The fearless organization”: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Amy-C-Edmondson/dp/1119477247 A team must design a practice for psychological safety - one that they can hold each other accountable to. 32.43: What are the antidotes for workplace behaviors that inhibit psychological safety? For example; Instead of blaming - what's the 2% truth? Defensiveness, and stonewalling (horseman quadrants) Design a conflict protocol for your team. How do we want to work with each other? How can we keep each other accountable? 36.29: Mindfulness Exercise called: Anchor Breathing for 4, 7, 8 seconds (be relaxed, comfortable, and alert) The Coaching Podcast is sponsored by The Sampson Agency - a talent entertainment and sports management company owned and operated by Tina Samara. In this episode, Marguerite Orane describes her journey from running a family-owned business to working in other businesses, and ultimately starting her own coaching business – a business that allows her the freedom and flexibility to lead with ease, grace, and joy. 00:37- About Marguerite Orane and her journey. My experience managing my family's 70-employee manufacturing business was painful. After we sold the business, in order to allow my parents to retire financially secure, I spent time during my MBA at Harvard Business School in deep introspection about how we work. Carla H Brown is a dynamic force for laughter, levity and joy on the planet! A self-proclaimed, recovering serious person, Carla chose to seek out more joy, after experiencing an auto-immune illness, which left her temporarily paralyzed. This slowing down gave her the opportunity to be fully present with the fear, worry, self-hatred and suffering going on in her mind, affecting her body. The experience gave her a passion and joy for living life to its fullest, knowing that life can turn on a dime. The intention of her company, Living From Joy Coaching and Training, is to offer practices and tools to cultivate more joy in the body and less fear. Through her grief counseling, she offers opportunities to welcome the disowned parts of oneself that become emotionally abandoned and rejected, through the hardships of life. She calls this Emotional Hygiene, encouraging her students and clients to meet the cast out parts, tend to the grief, embrace the darkness and step into greater embodiment of love and joy, while releasing the habit of fear. As a joy coach, grief counselor, health advocate and transformational teacher, Carla offers therapeutic, dynamic and fun in-person and online events, trainings and workshops, focusing on cultivating more joy, authenticity and connection within. Her recent claim to fame was winning the 2022 American Laughing Championship, and coming in 4th place in the world! She facilitates weekly online laughter classes, GriefYoga®, and the popular Joy Reboot, as well as working with clients one-on-one to liberate fear and embody more joy. Her next class series, due out later this summer, offers group support for those going through health challenges, to cultivate more joy and resiliency. Donnalynn Riley is a podcast host, and a Joy Coach who has ridden the roller coaster of life, and she has been sober since 1995. In sobriety, she met a lot of people who have been in dire straits, years and sometimes decades of degrading situations. One day when she was still drinking, she saw a woman twice her age working her way through a gallon box of wine and that's when she knew she would never be an old drunk - she could easily imagine jumping off a 10-story building, but not that. It was a moment that scared her right into getting help to get sober. Donnalynn knows how to choose joy consistently. From a career in the Broadway Stage in NYC to CEO of a multimillion-dollar corporation, the highs have been significant, and the walk through the valley equally amplified right down to the recent loss of her husband and house all at once. Understanding how to live in this world joyously, has been the guiding light for Donnalynn, resulting in finding beauty in every day. The Inner Alchemy Podcast is BACK with Season Two, and I couldn't be more excited to kick it off with resident "Joy Coach" -- and one of my best friends-- Claire Pearson (@clairepearsoncoaching). Claire's story of reclaiming her role in the driver's seat of her life is better than your average bedtime story (and it even includes a fashion show!). It's the story of a woman who dared to ask herself, "Is this what I really want out of my life?," before daring even greater to make the radical shifts that would bring her more joy and fulfillment. We talk about how you can do all the "right things" and still not feel fulfilled, the willingness to try, giving yourself permission to pivot, and whether a romper is really just a fancy shirt. In the first half of this podcast, Karyn shares her writings, "Consider the Lilies" along with affirmations for the "Flower Essences" which serve to remind us of our divine and pure potential. Relax with your favorite essential oils close at hand and breathe deeply as you listen to Karyn reassuring you of your "Original Personality", your "Divine Essence" before there was any heartbreak or heartache. This week, on The Conscious Consultant Hour , Sam welcomes Psychologist, Author, Love & Joy Coach, and Workshop Leader, *Elliott Robertson*. “ To say Yes to life is to fall into your heart, to fall into the place within you where you are most fully human, most available to encountering the world with love.” So says Elliott ( https://d38rqs2egh08o4.cloudfront.net/link_click/fbYiw5ra7K_bkEle/2784e1b0e3e06db46a5e3cd057d126dd ) , who has created a lyrical, soaring, small and intimate book, *Say Yes to Life: 7 Keys to Living Full Out from Within* ( https://d38rqs2egh08o4.cloudfront.net/link_click/fbYiw5ra7K_bkEle/8c6f71ce3192b3282c6553712993681c ) , that strives to inspire, illuminate and propel you into a new way to live. This charming part-guide book, part parable, part exhortation provides you a magically illuminated road-map to the expansion of living from the most authentic soul-driven part of you. The fastest and most complete way to find happiness. Watch the *Facebook Livestream by clicking here* ( https://www.facebook.com/InspiredThoughtsWithSam/videos/666176903990315/ ) *.* Segment 1 The show begins with the weekly quotes from Abraham and the Universe. The quotes are about focusing on the positive and finding something good in the bad because your energy affects everyone around you. You can find the good around you by creating the good around you. Then he introduced the guest of the show Elliott Robertson. He had not always been in connection with the undercurrent of joy that we are born with. Sam announces that he is going to be joining Elliott for his book called Everyday Awakening. Segment 2 Elliott was not always a happy person: he used to be very jealous of what others had. He would try to find others to blame such as his parents, god, but would not blame himself. Elliott originally was going to name his book Say Yes to God instead of Say Yes to Life because he felt they were synonymous. He shares a story when his father would have expectations for his sons that they could not meet, and often used an abrasive tone when speaking to his children. Elliott wishes that he has treated the situations with more kindness - as everyone should use their hearts eyes and exercise compassion. By asking “how can I be there for you?” it brings more awareness to the situation. Segment 3 Elliott says a main goal people should focus on is recognizing and appreciating their inner gifts. Everyone has talents and they need to be proud of them as they are all important (excellent conversation starter, deep compassion). You also much honor the things you love, whether you are good at not. For example, you may love weaving but not be the best at it -- Elliott says you must do these things anyway because this is listening to your heart. Sam suggests that no one is good at anything when we first try it, but if you continue to put time and energy into it you will improve. tandem, the progress you make will also make you feel better in combination with doing what you love. Segment 4 Integrity is one of the pathways to happiness according to Elliott. We must be conscious of the “water cooler effect” as in gossiping. When we do this we are taking money out of the integrity bank account. Not trusting yourself gets in the way of your inner peace. Knowing you're doing the right thing is a way to build a rapport with yourself and earn trust with who you are as a person. A good way to do this is to pay for the coffee of the person behind you which is a small gesture that could make someone's whole day. We judge ourselves harshly for our failures, and we sometimes think, “If only I had the right partner, a better body, more money, or a great job…then I’d be happy.” But research tells us that while having these things can make us happier in the short term, long term happiness is actually an inside job. Elliott Robertson is a Love and Joy Coach, an author, and a certified Happiness Workshop leader. Elliott is the author of Say Yes to Life: Seven Keys to Living Full Out from Within and he has written devotionals for Daily Word magazine as well as articles for Science of Mind and Wisdom Magazine. He holds a Master’s degree in psychology. For years Elliott consistently squelched his desires the moment they emerged. His constant refrain was, “Yes, I’d like to be friends with this person, but I’m not good enough.” The belief that he was not good enough was pervasive. Whenever his heart voiced a desire, it was immediately ruled out, whether the desire was related to career advancement, relationships, or money. In college, he never asked out a woman who had captured his heart at first sight. After graduating, he worked at entry-level jobs for years. His low self-esteem led him to sabotage a relationship with man within a year of meeting him and falling in love. Now he has compassion for the young man he used to be. He has gradually come to know that the cosmos is benevolent and majestic and creates only images of its own nature. This transformation has revealed to him his passion and purpose for supporting others in their journey of liberation from the misery and paralysis that come with low self-worth. Through the course of his journey, he has discovered keys to opening the doorway to the realm of day-to-day authentic happiness. He is committed to sharing these keys through his writing and coaching.

"I still have much bigger visions for my business, but in this moment, right now, I know I have so much in my life, right now, that's joyful and lovely - and I created that!” (Lynn Hord, The Joy Coach) Think of this episode as a lovely little 'pick me up', that if for some reason, you've lost sight of "why am I doing this working for myself lark again?" allow this episode to put you right back in that place of gratitude and appreciating all that is good about being an entrepreneur. So, Lynn Hord is this week's guest on the podcast. Lynn is The Joy Coach and Founder of Joy School and a leading light in the field of Joy Creation. As a certified coach and facilitator, she helps people harness the power of joy, to feel more motivated, more fulfilled, and much happier about their lives right now. Lynn has been in business for herself for the last 5 years, and as she reflects on that time herself "it's not always been easy, but even when things are not going well I’ve still found so much to enjoy within my business" When I asked Lynn to reflect on the three words that sum up her entrepreneurial journey so far, she said: “Challenge. Growth. Bliss” What you’ll learn by listening to this episode: We reflect on the wonder of being able to create something out of 'thin air' and then selling that to someone who really wants/needs it; We talk 'mind monkeys' (oh yes!) and how we manage to (for the most part) peacefully cohabit with these little fellas; How business buddies has been a fundamental ingredient for Lynn in starting her business and continues to be to this day "shoot the breeze" as she calls it; We muse on the difference between "inspired ideas" and bossy 'should' ideas and how to know one from the other; How sales and marketing and business related skills are really only 30% - the rest is all about the 'inner work'; If you only take ONE thing from this episode, do listen to what Lynn has to say about the need to lighten up when it comes to being in business, it's very funny, but an incredibly important message.
