Grandpa really puts life in perspective. Sometimes you just get caught up chasing things you don't understand and next thing you know, you're old, and broken, and telling your grandson a bunch of bullshit because your brain doesn't work right anymore and almost everyone you know is dead. Crazy. Anyways, here's some more stories! Who knows which direction they'll go. Did you understand the last episode? Did you have questions? Of course you did. Are they ever going to be answered? Of course not, because a good storyteller never shows their hand as the card players would say. They got dirty fucking hands and this detective won't stand for it. He'll sit and get lost and confused and end up regretting everything. My Grandpa, a Retired Homicide Detective, just Told Me the Case that still Keeps Him Up at Night(15:17)NEW! No, nothing weird about that. Totally by-the-books procedural here. Nothing out of the ordinary going on. Just regular old story-time with Grandpa. Definitely no nightmare inspiring unsolved mysteries here. Definitely nothing that's managed to haunt this old man until his final days. Definitely no dead kids, either. Who's asking? Really? No, seriously. Now I'm concerned. There's nothing wrong with Grandpa OR his stories, okay? Now, tuck in for night-night, drink your glass of warm milk, and open up your butt, cause we're coming in. Greg PayneTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Greg Payne. Greg is the host of; The Cool Grandpa Podcast, the author of 'My Grandpa's Grandpa', and a friend. In this episode, we chat about the experiences Greg had with his grandparents, growing up, that made him want to start a podcast dedicated to grandfathers. We exchange stories about our respective grandparents, and we discuss what drew Greg to podcasting in general. Greg touches on some of the early difficulties of starting his own show, and how its going now. Then we talk about the new children's book: My Grandpa's Grandpa. This is a sweet story about a grandson who doesn't want to go to sleep, and stretches bedtime out by asking his grandpa, about HIS grandpa. This is a heartwarming story that came from Greg's actual life (more or less), and it is perfectly executed in this children's book. All along the way, we trade stories about podcasting, getting older, who this book & podcast are for, and of course, grandparents!Greg has graciously provided a discount code for #streetwalkers who want to purchase this book. The Todd Herman Show
Want to force change into trans-radical, racist government schools? Make school optional for all kids. Episode 733

The Todd Herman Show

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 30, 2023 60:06

Unless we exert control over our institutions, starting with the schools, murders like those we saw in Nashville (and Aberdeen, and Denver, and Colorado Springs) will happen far more often as the minds of young people are broken by causing psychotic breaks with reality. We have enough people who are unconnected to reality, like the Sniffer-in-Chief who, instead of mourning the dead people murdered by a woman in a psychotic break instead admired the bodies of children. So many government schools played along with the lockdowns--and, many schools got paid to push masking and mRNA injections--that CBS News did a long report about the unprecedented damage to kid's education, though CBS blamed a flu. The radicalization of so many schools has decimated people's respect for the principles of a healthy society, it will take a century to get them back. The WSJ on what people value today: In 1998, 70 percent of Americans said patriotism was very important and now, only 38 percent. Religion was 62 percent in 1998, now 39 percent! The poll with 1019 adults was conducted march 1-13. So, remove the state's hands from the necks of children and make school optional--yes, people can thrive without them. My Uncle dropped out of 5th grade. My Uncle died rich. My Uncle learned from life. My Grandpa dropped out of 8th grade. My Grandpa died very well-off, well loved, well remembered for what he gave back to his community. My Grandpa learned from life. I know, people will say that is an “anti-intellectual” rant, but some of the finest minds in history did not attend compulsory schools. If school is totally optional, schools will have to pursue parents and, unless it's in the separate countries of Washington, Oregon, California and the like, most parents will understand it damages kids to teach them reality doesn't exist and racism is a virtue if they channel their hatred at the right people. What does God say? Proverbs 22:6 ESV Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.Deuteronomy 6:6-7 ESV And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.Ephesians 6:4 ESV Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.Proverbs 13:24 ESV Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.Deuteronomy 6:7 ESV You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.Isaiah 54:13 ESV All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children. On Ron's Amazing Stories this week we have a mixed bag. We open with three incredible ghost adventures - May tells us about her spirit guide, Wisp9988 has an experience with sleep paralysis and loves it, and Amanda tells about her blue grandpa. Our main tale comes from the 60's pulp mags and tells us all about the FBI Superman who can't be killed. This one was suggested by listener Doyle Riley. As an added bonus we have a short story titled Resurrection. So grab your favorite beverage and press that play button! Featured Story - Sight Gag Our featured story was suggested by Doyle Riley, a listener from Scottsdale, Arizona. Doyle said in his email that I was going to love this story. He was right. It is a strange tale of the life and times of the FBI Supermen. Intelligence is a great help in the evolution-by-survival—but intelligence without muscle is even less useful than muscle without brains. But it's so easy to forget that muscle—plain physical force—is important, too! The story is titled Sight Gag and was written by Larry M. Harris.  It was first published in Analog Science Fact & Fiction Magazine in May of 1962. Other Stories Include - Marks Of Death, Columbus Day, Spirit Wolf, Fun With Sleep Paralysis, My GrandPa is Blue, Sight Gag, and Resurrection. We cover a lot of what's going on today and also in the past when it comes to war and politics. Born in 1932 he was 13 years old when WW2 ended. He talks about what it was like to be around during the invention of the television. He's made two hole in ones in his life. So if you're an avid golfer you'll love to hear about that. WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST Episode 83 The Rogue Electrics   The Rogue Electrics are an independent original rock band and recording artist from Milwaukee Wisconsin that sound like a mix of classic rock, alternative rock, and blues. The Rogue Electrics name came from the fact that I am the last in line of a family of electricians. My Grandpa, dad, and uncles have a family business called Rogahn Electric. I was never exposed to learning the trade. The band name is a tribute to my dad and family who were the ones that turned me onto all of the classic rock music I now love. I felt that naming this band The Rogue Electrics was a way for me to carry on my family's legacy while serving to be a symbol of the blue collar type workmanship required to make a good independent band. The logo design is based on the font style from the Rogahn Electric work jackets that my family used to wear on the job.   Booking/Contact Email therogueelectrics@gmail.com Bandcamp (get our merch/records) Bandcamp - The Rogue Electrics Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/therogueelectrics/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therogueelectrics/ Youtube (videos and recorded music) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8RMrgMLWzFbx8S7d2u0ATw Find us on Spotify, Apple, Amazon as well.

Welcome everyone to another episode here on HOV: Veterans Podcast, and I'm your host Chris. It's been a while since I put out an episode, the Ride with Dan, USA roll up was the last one that I did. Up to that point it is all me, pure laziness and focused on other things. Easier things in some regard. But the past month I was deeply engaged, and that is what I going to talk about on todays episode. This is a Veterans Pod, so talking about Veterans and the areas that impact our lives and those around us is what we do. My Grandpa, 94yo WWII Marine Veteran, Merchant Marines before that, and newest inductee into the Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame. My Grandpa has filled this life up folks, not only with experiences, but with people. Not to get into my Grandpa's medical history, he's 94yo so you get it. On top of that, he fell going into church and fractured his femur right above the knee. He had his knee replaced a number of years ago, so that messed up the alignment of his hardware.  This has made his knee unstable and a concern when living alone. Yes, my Grandpa lived alone til he was 94 years old. But getting up/down stairs, stopping falls without breaking something else is not something he can do alone anymore.Family got together to get a schedule around. 3 aunts, 2 uncles, jobs and medical issuesSigned up on the duty roster for 30 daysLearned a few things over this period that I'd like to share.1) Duty & Obligation are over used Calling, number of cousins that aren't able to just cut away, they may feel that they are not fulfilling a duty, but in the end its a calling, a draw to this person, to help steady them and ensure they are maintained.2) Personal Perception in Stated Learning - we all have those moments where we “change”, the situation dictates that we become someone else. Some times it's a date, location, but mostly its situations. Think about the idea of Monday's, going to work after a long weekend of not resting at all. This develops a “state of mind/emotion” around this event. People can do this to us also.  - My Grandpa had this hold on me. Like I said, he has been my best friend longer than anyone else. He directs me as if I was 15yo again, I snap to his directions like I did when I was young too.  - There is nothing wrong with this, per say, when he passes, which we all will, there would have been a feeling of being lost, a great loss to me.  - But walking behind the man who use to tower over me, looking over his head a full foot and holding my hand in a belt grabbing position changed my view of things. This also has nothing wrong attached, a progression that took many years, but one that had to happen at some point. Especially in the sense of mental and emotional health going forward.3) Old Age Care - My Grandpa has it pretty good. He gets to stay at home, his family will make sure that he is taken care of and he'll be good to go. The constant contact with my Aunts/Uncles during my time there made things all too clear for me.I'm going to either be in a Veterans Home or at the mercy of someone that I don't know to care for me. Either way, I have a lot of work to do on my character. When I look at the situation, me without the ability to do for myself and someone taking care of me, I see only one thing that can make my situation better….a good character. These folks, primarily ladies, are giving their time to cover the cost of resources to propel their family to the next level. They are profiting by my demise. There is no need to confuse the facts there, others will profit in terms of a paycheck for taking care of me till I pass on. My level of character is the only thing that will make a difference at this stage of my journey.  If you haven't been to an Assistant Living Facility, you should go some time. It's a good view of how things will be for you, kind of a “Ghost of Christmas Future” if you will. Christmas slang is creeping in this time of year. The bills that are passed that save money, but strip away funds or oversight into these facilities will be something that we fall on to when our time comes. At the same time, you get to see the folks that are engaged and who draw extra attention from the nursing staff. If you're not that person, well you're probably just going to stare out the window like an ass, passing the time as a shell of your former self. Holy shit, didn't mean to take a few steps down the dark path folks, just trying to paint the picture for ya. It is something that we need to think about. Some of you have parents that will soon be entering this stage of life, it is hard  to be a part of, life altering. Something to consider. All in all, I feel personally, that I came away from the short visit with my Grandpa having cultivated a portion of myself that has changed me, very profoundly. These opportunities don't come along very often, and certainly the fully engaged nature of the environment had a lot to do with it also. I went to bed thinking about my Grandpa and woke with my first thought turning to him, the rest of the day was focused on his needs. A truly great time, 30 days of hanging with and being there for my oldest friend. What do things look like going forward for the pod, well… I have no idea. The plan was never to be an old crusty clown still hosting this pod, but for the time being we'll see what we can make happen for the show. I've discussed the nature of the show and how it has its own set of inherent difficulties.I've been picking back up where I left off on the 6 chapter book called “Settlement, Inc”. The 6 chapters will be broken down into 12 episodes, with an opening episode and closing/beginning of the next book. All read by me with a bit of technical wizardary added in for good manner also. I'll do a brief read as we get closer.Mr. ChummyVet himself, Ryan Wempe and I are working on a pod that we will host together, more to come from that.Alright everyone, take it easy out there. Stay safe, blessed, and smiling. Till next time.

He and Magpie have returned to the library to look for the mysterious book about The Skye Lark Belle. “I'll go ask the librarian, maybe she can help,” says Magpie, walking over to the front desk. She returns a few minutes later, a look of confusion on her face.“What did she say?” asks Lucas.“She said she's never heard of it, but she checked the system and the card files just in case, but there is no book with that title, or any variation of that title, in this library,” replies Magpie.“But, we both saw it, right here on the shelf!” says Lucas.“That wasn't the first time I saw it, either…” says Magpie, surprising herself at the confession.“What do you mean?” asks Lucas, turning toward her, surprised.“I saw it in a dream, a few weeks ago,” says Magpie, staring at the ground, afraid of Lucas' reaction,.“That's amazing! What was the dream about?” asks Lucas, genuinely interested, and not a hint of disbelief in his voice. Magpie proceeds to tell him about the terrifying dream, leaving nothing out. They sit in silence for a while once she is finished.“Hey! I thought I saw you two walking in here!” booms a voice nearby, making both Lucas and Magpie jump. Bo Bunting saunters over, completely oblivious to the stern look from the librarian his loud call has earned him.“Bo!” whispers Lucas, hoping to lead by example, “Magpie and I were just doing a bit of research for…”“…for my mom, she's doing a series of paintings based on Pocket and we thought we'd look into some of its history,” Magpie cuts in. Lucas gives her a wink, and she feels a warmth wash through her.“Billy and Sydney Finch are at Mirror Pond, they're playing some kind of nerdy nature bingo game or something, I was just about to go join them, would you like to come?” asks Bo.Magpie and Lucas look at each other, there's nothing left for them here in the library, they might as well get out and have some fun. The trio exit the library and walk down the gravel road toward Mirror Pond. As they pass by Meadow Lane, Bo, who has been chatting the entire time, becomes unusually quiet.“I wonder how old that tree is,” says Magpie tentatively, nodding toward the huge oak tree in the front field of Meadow Lane.“My guess is its probably as old as my family's store!” says Bo, though he doesn't actually turn to look toward the tree. He opens his mouth as if he's going to say somehting more, hesitates for a moment, then closes it again.“Over here!” comes a voice a little further ahead. Magpie looks toward the pond and sees Sydney Finch waving her arm at her, the row of colourful bracelets still on her arm. Magpie looks down at her wrist, the turquoise bracelet Sydney gave her still wrapped around it.The sun is just starting to set in the sky as they take a seat on an old log near the pond. “We brought everything we need to make some s'mores!” says Billy, holding up a bag of marshmallows and a pack of graham crackers. He and Bo get to work starting a campfire while Lucas and Sydney unpack the ingredients. Magpie wanders toward some nearby bushes to find sticks for them to roast the marshmallows on. In the distance she can see Meadow Lane. She stops to stare at the house for a moment. Perhaps it's just a trick of the light with the setting sun, but she could've sworn she saw a woman in the upstairs window staring out at her. Magpie shudders and hurries up to finish her task before returning to the circle. By now the campfire is crackling, spreading its warm orange glow around. Magpie hands out the sticks while Lucas circles around with the bag of marshmallows.“Okay,” says Billy, “now it's time for spooky stories! Who's going to go first?” he asks, looking around the circle.“I have one, it was told to me by my Tota,” says Sydney, and she proceeds to tell the story about a shape-shifting deer woman who lives deep in the forest who lures unsuspecting people into her enchanted realm and they are never seen or heard from again. Magpie feels a chill go down her spine, for some reason the story has affected her far more than it should, she feels a strange sense of foreboding. “Speaking of people never being seen or heard from again, what do you guys know about Marius Corbeau?” asks Lucas.  Magpie is surprised, Lucas has always seemed so reluctant to discuss Meadow Lane or anything related to it with anyone besides Magpie.Bo bites his lip. “My Grandpa used to tell us stories, but he was pretty old and probably pretty confused, because they didn't make a lot of sense. What I do know is that the story about Marius disappearing is true, and that his horse really was found. In fact, Cormorant lived out the rest of his days on your family farm, Lucas.” At this Lucas' eyes grow wide. “I never knew!” he says.Billy pipes up, “Some say Marius never really existed at all, that he was a ghost the whole time! He just appeared one day the disappeared just a suddenly. Whatever the case, they say Farfalla was devastated. They say she cursed the house and that's why the silence…” Billy catches himself talking about the one thing Magpie has learned no one in town ever talks about. The silence at Meadow Lane.“I think it's unfair to blame Farfalla, no one knows what really happened,” says Sydney in her calm, comforting tone. “I would love to know more about the Skylark Bell though, some say it was a gift to Farfalla, and that it was very old. They say it had the most beautiful, perfect sound. But it disappeared when her family left Meadow Lane, and no one knows what happened to it. Some say it's a mystical object that would end the silence,” says Sydney.Magpie can feel the familiar tingle at the back of her neck that tells her she needs to be paying attention. The mystical Skylark Bell that rings to break the silence, and the book titled The Skye Lark Belle – Skye with an E, Belle with an E, surely there is some connection to the two, after all, they were both in her dream. Magpie is so lost in her thoughts she doesn't realize everyone has gotten up and started packing. “Magpie you ready to go?” she hears Bo's voice cut through her thoughts and looks up. She sees Lucas standing close to Sydney and feels the same tightness in her stomach she felt the first time she saw them together.“Oh, yes,” she answers, hoping Bo didn't notice the look on her face a moment ago.  “I'll help you up,” says Lucas, quickly walking over. He holds his hands out and lifts Magpie to her feet. They stand and stare at one another for a moment and Magpie feels the tightness ease up. “Sydney, I can drive you home,” says Billy, “Bo, do you want to ride with us?” Bo nods and the group makes their way back to the road. Billy, Bo and Sydney hop in Billy's pickup truck, he revs the engine and loud rock music bursts out the windows. Magpie and Lucas laugh as the truck roars down the road leaving a trail of gravel dust behind it.“Not only do the Bunting brothers know how to make an entrance, they also know how to make an exit!” laughs Lucas, making Magpie giggle. Lucas walks Magpie across the road to the bottom of her driveway. “I hope those spooky stories around the campfire don't give you nightmares,” he says as they are about to part ways. Magpie gets the impression Lucas isn't quite ready to go home yet, but she isn't sure.“I think I'll be fine, I'll probably just dream of marshmallows and chocolate,” she says, winking at him. Lucas smiles, and lingers for amoment before finally wishing her goodnight and heading home. Thank you so much for listening. Before I go, I'd like to thank Phaeton Starling Publishing for this fantastically eerie story, and Cannelle Elanion for composing equally fantastic and eerie music for this podcast. If you are enjoying this story, please consider leaving a rating or a review. I am thrilled to have my grandparents, Allen and Mary Ann Nichols as my guests for episode 6 of Talk with Tori podcast! Today is their 70th wedding anniversary – what a milestone!!! My grandparents are in their 90s and have been married 70 years, so they have many life experiences. They share stories from their childhood, careers, and advice for marriage and parenting. My Grandpa and Grandma have always brought me so much wisdom over the years, and I cannot wait for you to learn from them, too. They discuss simple things that they do to show each other they care. Life will be difficult, but it is all about how you handle it while learning and growing along the way. Grandpa and Grandma tell the story about the hardest time of their life when their son (my Uncle Darrell) was injured at a young age, and the difficult decisions that this brought to their lives. They both are open about what is important in life and how they have kept a strong marriage and family. My grandparents explain that partnership is about commitment, investment, and always doing more than you need to. Grandpa and Grandma also share about the gift of family, time together, and how to welcome others. Whether you are single, a newlywed, or married for 70 years like they have been, this episode will inspire you, bring an appreciation for others in your life, and make you want to be a better person. You've got to start ignoring social media if it makes you feel like shit about where you are in your process. The truth is: building something of note in this world takes time, thought, integrity and a little something called: work. I get it, so many talk about working smarter not harder. I am not sure I can agree. I have seen this countlessly not only in my own life, but in some of the most successful & fulfilled humans I know: work feels good, work is important, and work is what builds big fucking dreams. Stop trying to avoid work, stop trying to cut corners, stop using people, their contacts, "networking", hustling, and exhausting yourself with thinking about how you're going to do it easiest, versus, simply, just doing what it takes. Doing what it takes: putting in the love, the heart, the work, the time & the trust in the process and the Universe. IT'S NOT WOO WOO, IT'S WORK ETHIC. My Grandpa used to say: "the harder I work, the luckier I get."Some may disagree with me here and that's ok. All are entitled to their own perspective on the life experience. My Grandpa was an amazing example of clutter-free living. In every area of his life, he cut out any superfluous stuff. I never knew him to hold a grudge, or take on someone else’s problems. And when he passed away a few weeks ago, I once again was reminded of how simple a clutter-free life is, as we cleaned out his home of his material possessions. He had no duplicates of anything! That tells me, he didn’t expect anything to get lost or break down. He also expected that if that did happen, he would have the means to replace the item, or could easily do without. That feels like abundance to me. As a result, I have been going through my home, room by room, and freeing myself of anything that doesn’t resonate with me as useful or meaningful. I have twice the space in the rooms that previously felt cramped, and I feel more free physically. I have more time and positive energy!Freedom is a gift, but it comes from someone who paid a price for the gift. for me, the price of an uncluttered life is letting go of things that no longer serve, and creating space for what does. For our country, freedom of religion and enterprise, most certainly, came with the price of blood sacrificed by others for the sake of future generations. Freedom from our limiting beliefs and compulsive behaviors, comes with the price of daily addressing our fears and courageously combating them. We express gratitude for the tools that we now have to teach good principles, and the freedom to create them if they don’t already exist to our liking. In some areas of our world, people are told what to eat, how to dress, what school to go to and even what employment they are allowed to seek. There are many freedoms we never even acknowledge because they are so commonplace. Let us always remember and express gratitude for the freedoms we do have by using them. And let us also remember the price that was paid for those freedoms by preserving them.Today, I Give Myself Permission to Feel BlessedI have plentyI am blessed beyond measureI get by easily with minimal stuffI love my homeI love my lifeI am super abundant in every area of my lifeI am free to enjoy what I am and have in the here and nowClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. To have a 15 minute conversation with Wylene Benson about a new perspective on an area of your life you desire to change, contact her directly at this link:askwylene.comSupport the show (https://wylenebenson.com)

I was grateful today that a couple of our dedicated live Daily Gratitude Call participants stayed on the conference line, even though I wasn’t there. It was sort of a lazy morning for me and I was a couple minutes late getting on the call. Sure enough, there were two participants just sharing their gratitude with each other while they waited for me to join them.I am also grateful for our brave military personnel who is so dedicated in service to keeping our country free and strong. My Grandpa is one of those veterans of World War II. He is the oldest living veteran in our town. He just turned 98 two days ago. He is on hospice care right now, but is still as alert and wise as ever. An honor guard will be recognizing him this morning at my mom’s home. I feel so blessed to be a grand-daughter of a man who lived a life of dedication, not only to his country, but to himself, his God and his family. He is the epitome of dedication in every area.Jane, on our call today reminded us that if we can be dedicated in one area, we can transfer that skill to all areas of our lives. We can dedicate a moment of our lives to being present and conscious when we make decisions. We can dedicate our time, money, energy and talents to a cause or even our own vision of creating a better life for ourselves.Napoleon Hill said “There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants and a burning desire to possess it.” I felt on the call today that the key piece among all this is our dedication to doing! We can know what we want and even have a burning desire, but unless we are willing to put the dedicated action behind it, it is only an empty wish. Thanks to Michael on our call today who shared that we can wander for a lifetime, but once we dedicate ourselves to focus and purpose, we find freedom, and may I add, the wandering then becomes a deliberate journey to a chosen destination.Today, I Give Myself Permission to Be DedicatedI am freeI make decisions based on what produces the perfect outcome for meI desire the freedom that is the result of a life of dedicationI am finding my deliberate path to my chosen destinationI envision my intention and I dedicate myself to bringing the tangible result into my realityClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook GroupTo have a 15 minute conversation with Wylene Benson about a new perspective on an area of your life you desire to change, contact her directly at this link: Contact WyleneSupport the show (https://wylenebenson.com)

I am grateful for group texts. As I think of all the group texts I have been part of, there is a common thread that ties us all together. And that common thread is always based in love and communication. The most recent group text I have been included in is with my mom and six siblings. My Grandpa, whose 98th birthday is today, is in the hospital. I have been grateful that all of my family have been willing and ready to step up and be with Grandpa, so that in trading off, someone has been with him all day long with few exceptions. It’s not so much that he wants someone with him, he told me I would NOT miss church on his account, when I visited with him on Sunday. But we We want to be there! He has the most amazing stories of his life that communicate his integrity, and his life of service and obedience.I know that everyone doesn’t have this type of connection with family. I am blessed that all my siblings and my mom are within 15 minutes of each other, with the exception of my sister who lives an hour away. So we are close in proximity. And we have always been close energetically too.Mary, on our call mentioned that this is not her experience with her family ties. However, rather than choosing to separate herself, she has chosen to do the opposite of what she felt growing up. She has chosen to reach out in love without condition of how they may receive her. In this way, she does have love of family. She is the one producing the love!Tyrie suggested that if we master our emotions and our actions, we can act independently of others who might choose something other than love. Coleen added that by seeing the gifts and greatness in others, seeing them through Christ’s eyes, many times people are more open to feel and give love. We have the power to produce love, even if it is only one-sided for a time.‘Family” can mean many things. People bonded together in a common purpose. The Daily Gratitude Call is in a sense, a family. I talk to my gratitude family more than I talk to my blood related family! And we are all part of the great human family with our Heavenly Father and Mother at the head. DNA lines go all the way back to Adam. So, in effect, we are all family!Today, I Give Myself Permission to Feel and Offer LoveI love without conditionI choose to loveI choose connectionI choose the rich blessings of family togethernessI notice, recognize and acknowledge others in loveI experience love in my heartI am a loved member of the great human familyI see the value that others give and express my gratitude to themI see the value I give and I express gratitude to my Heavenly Father for my giftsWhat is your Inspired Shortcut to experiencing a fullness of love all the time?Suggested Scripture:“26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! 27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! Tim Ryan arrived in Nashville from Montana with not much more than with his wife by his side, and guitar in hand. He literally didn't know a soul, but within the first day in Music City had a major record deal. Upon releasing his debut album, the deal fell through, but then got picked up by another major label... and then another. As an artist, his success rate wasn't what he had imagined it being, and the harsh reality of a record deal (or lack thereof) set in. But then Tim met the likes of such songwriters as Phil Vasser, and soon went on a musical journey of writing a #1 hit song at radio, which provided him the opportunity to fulfill his new dream, to write a symphony titled "My Grandpa's Fiddle". When Life Gives You Parkinson's

In June, I will be traveling to Kyoto, Japan for the 5thWorld Parkinson Congress(WPC). WPC is a global Parkinson's event that opens its doors to all members of the Parkinson's community, from neurologists and researchers to those living with the disease.  Since my diagnosis in August 2017, I’ve launched the podcast When Life Gives YouParkinson’s. As an extension of that podcast, I have teamed up with the World Parkinson Coalition to help preview WPC2019.  Since my diagnosis, the most unsolicited advice I’ve received is about my diet. As a change of pace, I’m actually asking for advice today from Dr. Laurie Mischley, a naturopathic physician and nutritional neuro-epidemiologist. For the past seven years, she has been tracking 2,000 people with Parkinson’s to determine how foods, vitamins and minerals are impacting the rate of progression. In this episode, Dr. Mischley comments on the positives and negatives of many diets that have been recommended to me including Keto, Gluten-Free, 7:1, and the 24 eggs a day diet.  Based on her research, Mischley finds the people with Parkinson’s that are doing the best overtime, post-diagnosis, are eating fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, non-fried fish, nuts, seeds, olive oil, coconut oil, wine, fresh herbs and spices. She notes that this is closely resembles the Mediterranean diet. As important as what to eat, is what not to eat. Mischley has identified several foods associated with statistically-significant, faster than average Parkinson’s progression including dairy, beef, fried foods, soda, canned fruits, and canned vegetables. Organic and local foods matter too. In a true or false question in her study, people who said TRUE to the statement, “I try to eat organically grown foods when possible” are doing significantly better than people who do not go out of their way to eat organic. The same thing is true for the statement, “I shop at local farmers markets, co-ops and try to eat locally and seasonally.” It is because of research and people with Parkinson’s willing to participate in that research that there are best practices, better treatments, and continuing hope for a bio-marker and a cure. Dr. Soania Mathur is a family physician who has been living with Parkinson’s for 21-years. She is speaking at WPC2019 about advocacy and research. “I think there are a lot of myths and misconceptions about clinical trials,” says Mathur on When Life Gives You Parkinson’s. “I think some of the barriers are probably logistical. It’s hard sometimes to fit into our schedules especially when you have Young Onset and you maybe work or raising a young family. Some of the clinical trials can be quite involved in terms of time. Some of it is that people just don’t know how to find trials they would qualify for and be in their geographical area.” During our discussion, Dr. Mathur also outlined some key misconceptions. She notes that some people like the idea of clinical trials, but are fearful that they will lose their current medical care. Others fear they will be subjected to tests that will be painful or inconvenient. And some are concerned that they are being used as a guinea pig for potentially dangerous medication or treatment plan. The reality is while there are invasive clinical trials, there are also observational clinical trials where you fill out questionnaires, there are genetic clinical trials where you simply provide a spit sample, and there are a lot of trials where you have to go in one time and you’re not subjected to long follow up.  Without all of these types of clinical trials the science cannot progress, our understanding of the disease won’t progress, and certainly the development of new treatments won’t occur. When you ready to participate in research, Dr. Mathur suggests you look into data bases like Fox Trial Finder, which she describes as Match.com for clinical trials. These data bases ask for your demographic information and Parkinson’s history and then suggest clinical trials near you which best suit your situation. Each episode of the WPC2019 Podcast, I’m going to check in with James Heron, the Executive Director of the Japanese-Canadian Cultural Centre to teach us a new word or phrase and help us better understand the culture so we can avoid embarrassing ourselves or offending our hosts. This episode Heron teaches us the phrase Toire wa doko desu ka?Which translates to “where is the washroom?” When you enter a Japanese washroom, Heron cautions that there are three types of toilets you may encounter. There is a traditional Japanese toilet. This toilet features a long porcelain trough that you squat over. You’re likely to only encounter this in the countryside and not in the cities. You might encounter a traditional western toilet. This a toilet much like we have here in North America. One difference is that when you flush, water comes out of a fountain for hand washing before being used to flush any liquids or solids. And then there is a modern or “space age” toilet. These toilets can feature lights, a seat warmer and many options for spray cleaning and drying. Heron notes there is no need to be intimidated, because there are pictures clearly identifying where water will be sprayed depending on your needs and that it is quite pleasant and hygienic.    Follow me, Larry Gifford  Twitter: @ParkinsonsPod Facebook: Facebook.com/ParkinsonsPod Instagram: @parkinsonspod For more info on the World Parkinson Congress head to www.WPC2019.org Facebook: Facebook.com/WorldPDCongress/ Twitter: @WorldPDCongress YouTube: WorldPDcongress Instagram: @worldpdcongress Thank you to: Soania Mathur, MD and author of Shaky Hands: A Kids Guide to Parkinson’s Disease,My GrandPa’s Shaky Handsand the blog, “Designing a Cure; Living Well with Parkinson’s Disease.” Follow Soania on Twitter: @SoaniaMathur Laurie Meschley, ND, MPH, PhD(c). Thanks for supporting this free podcast by using our links!   GEM: Military Minutes with Michael Strauss The Council of National Defense was created by an Act of Congress based on the Army Appropriation Act passed on August 29, 1916. This agency was made up of the Secretaries of War, Navy, Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, and Labor along with an advisory commission that was later appointed by President Woodrow Wilson on October 11, 1916. Their purpose was to come together and coordinate the industries and resources of the United States for national security and general welfare and to be prepared for war.  Later on, April 21, 1917 a few short weeks after the United States entered World War I the Women's Committee of the Council for National Defense under the national council was created with suffragist Anna Howard Shaw appointed the Chairman.  As the women organized separate divisions and chapters were created in every state and groups that centered on the African-American community. When the division were formed registration, cards were filled out by women all across the United States requesting personal information. The cards not only offer genealogical details, but give a unique prospective into the social history of women in the early 20th century women move one step closer to national suffrage.     Details on the registration cards included: Name and address Age and marital status Color or race of applicant Country of birth and/or citizenship status Time applicant willing to pledge or volunteer for war effort Occupation and where and by whom employed Educational background Personal references for applicant Emergency service where volunteer willing to go and when Work experience or training to aid in the war effort Date and place of registration (wards or precincts in cities) Physical description General remarks Signed and dated registrar and assignment for war effort. An example from one of the registration cards from Grand Rapids is for Constance M. Rourke (1885-1941), born in Cleveland, Ohio.  She was an educator, a noted author, and historian.  Educated at Vassar College in New York she later moved back to Michigan after a brief teaching career, where she worked for the Board of Education in Grand Rapids.  She lived in the same house in town for the rest of her life after publishing several noteworthy books.   The national headquarters of the Women's Committee of the Council of National Defense was located at 1814 N Street NW, Washington, DC.  The building was formally the Playhouse Club and theater and owned by Washington socialite Henrietta M. Halliday (widow of Edward C. Halliday) who leased the property to the women's committee for free during World War I.  After the end of World War, I in 1918 the council continued to operate until it was dissolved in 1921.   Several collections from different states are available online to research.  One of the largest online databases comes from the Grand Rapid Public Library in Michigan.  Their database search contains 22,836 individual registration cards that are searchable by name, address, age, and occupation.  The records cover the Michigan Division of Grand Rapids for the Women's Committee for Council of National Defense.  The card indexes offer not only offer genealogical information, but provide educational background, work skills, and employment information.  Online at In Midland, Michigan another set of cards are available at the Midland Center for the Arts has in their collection registration cards that cover their county. This collection consists of 2 boxes that contain 802 total cards for area women residents.  The cards are not digitized, but have been indexed by name along with an excellent finding aid on how to access these records:   Another set of cards that is available comes through the courtesy of the Indiana Genealogical Society.  Less than 50,000 registration cards are known to exist in the state of Indiana. Two counties (Jasper and Miami in Indiana), have known collections of registration cards, but believe other counties in Indiana have these treasures stored away in museums, courthouses, or in other libraries that are  statewide and don't know they exist.  Anyone with more information on locations of more cards should contact them.  An excellent blog post explains help they seek: . Some smaller collections of online registration cards are located at the Arkansas State Archives in Little Rock.  It is under Arkansas Women's History Collection and has a finding aid online.  At this time four cards are scanned to give patrons an idea of what to expect when searching this record group.  On their website an excellent blog posting explains their records and as part of this group in Arkansas the Colored Auxiliary Council during World War I.  Both can be searched online:    and to look at the limited number of cards: . Another small collection online from the University of Iowa Libraries in Iowa City, IA.  There digitized images are limited in number again to offer patron the opportunity to see what potential the records hold.  They also have scanned some of the correspondence relating to the women who belonged to the local Iowa Division.  To access their finding aids and look at the images: From this list of online sources for the registration cards it appears that most are in the Midwestern part of the United States.  It is true that several states have these available online.  If the geographic area of the country of your interest isn't listed than consider looking at different state archives, libraries, museums, and other historical sites.  Searches in card catalogs, finding aid, and other sources will often be the best way to locate potential collections.  One final location that genealogists should consider comes directly from the National Archives in College Park, MD.  This is known as Archives II.  The records of the Records of the Council of National Defense (CND) which is located in Record Group 62.  Besides the registration cards the Archives has general correspondence, weekly reports of state division activity, and minutes for meeting.  The minutes are digitized on the National Archives website and offer a glimpse into the activities of women nationwide.  For more information and reading about the Women's Committee for the Council of National Defense; some suggested sources: Blair, Emily Newell. Now at 19 years old, she is even more passionate about genealogy! I discovered Sydney one day on social media when I saw a short video she posted with her sister. Turns out she had entered the video in this year's RootsTech Film Fest. While the video didn't win, it won my heart because it featured an audio recording from long ago that her grandpa made for her Grandma. Because the audio from the film is so wonderful just on it's own, I asked Sydney if I could share it with you here on the show, and she graciously agreed.   The Story Behind the Song Sydney explains: “My Grandpa and my Grandma were in love when he left to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints in Australia. They were not yet engaged, but they planned to marry each other when he came back after two years. During the months he was gone, Grandpa sent Grandma gifts like a boomerang, a stuffed Koala bear toy, and photo prints. For her birthday, Grandpa sent her audio tapes of him singing love songs, while he played the guitar. For my 14th birthday, Grandpa gave me his guitar. It was about 50 years old and I loved it. Grandpa passed away suddenly in the fall of 2017. A few days after, my Dad was going through Grandpa's computer and found the audio. Grandpa must've converted it a few years ago. It was such a special experience to listen to him sing. A few months later, Grandma decided to move and she hosted a garage sale. My uncle Austin looked through the items and pulled out an unmarked, dinged up, video tape. He felt like he should take it home, so he did. He searched for a VCR player for hours before he found one. Then, he discovered what the tape contained. Footage of my Grandparents and their family! No one knew it existed. The video recorder belonged to my great grandparents, but they let their son and daughter-in-law borrow it occasionally. It was colorized, but silent, and it was beautiful. Grandma and Grandpa had a special kind of love. The kind you see in classic 1930s Hollywood movies. The kind where you never doubt that they were meant for each other. My uncle showed the rest of our family the footage during our last reunion. My aunts and uncles saw video of themselves as children for the first time! I saw my grandparents raise my Dad. It was such a gift. For Christmas, I wanted to give my Grandma something special. So, I worked with my sister to put together a video compiling the audio from Grandpa's mission and the silent footage my uncle found. My sister learned to play the chords of “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” on Grandpa's guitar because I couldn't figure it out. She has a knack for just hearing music and playing it right. Together, we sang a duet with the recording from Grandpa. I mixed together the audio and edited the footage into one whole video. The video was not completed in time for Christmas, but I did finish it in time to enter the RootsTech Film Fest where it made it to the semi-finalist round. The video was imperfect, but it was just right for its purpose. And that purpose was to make my Grandma smile. I was away at college when I wanted my Grandma to see it. So my Mom went over to Grandma's house and facetimed me while they watched it. Grandma said to me after, “I was at dinner tonight and someone was playing the piano. I listened to the music and I tried to remember what it was like to dance with Steve.” Together, we shared tears and laughter as we remembered my Grandpa, Steve Orton. I am forever grateful for the technology that made the video possible.” Follow Sydney on Twitter:  @genealogy_gal Visit Sydney's website:    Get MORE Genealogy Gems with the Ad-Free Premium Podcast 1 Year Membership Featuring: Premium  (150+ episodes) Now over 50 ! He rose through the corporate ladder, took over a business in 1983 as the CEO and is still Chairman of the Board today. He ran at least a half marathon every year until he was in his sixties. He still run, walks or golfs just about every single day. A few months ago he invited our family down to South Carolina to celebrate his 80th birthday. Like most birthdays, there was a delicious cake involved. But when we brought the cake out, it didn't say “Happy 80th Birthday Grandpa”. It said “Be Bold And Dream”. He wrote the message on that cake to his three children, 8 grandchildren and maybe even himself. I wanted to ask him about that cake. I wanted to ask him what it was like to marry someone the day after you graduated college. I wanted to ask him about running a family business with my dad, uncle and aunt. I wanted to ask him all about his 80 years on this Earth, and what he has planned for the rest of his life. So I did. I grew up with two dogs throughout my childhood. Maggie and Ginger. Ginger was a Hungarian hunting dog called a Vizsla. They're exceptional dogs for going after birds and I once watched Ginger leap into the air and knock one down in flight. Ginger was pretty impressive. Ginger also had a number of bad habits, including chasing every car that drove up and down our 100 yard driveway. Ginger was obsessed with attacking the cars and chasing them away. Driving slow and waiting for Ginger to lose interest wasn't a good plan because he would just closer and nip at your tires. Every vehicle was a battle and Ginger intended on winning. When Ginger would trot back to the house it was never triumphant. Many other dogs would be celebrating the way they chased the intruders away, but Ginger always looked like he just narrowly missed the catch of a lifetime. It was like he was hoping to chase and catch the car and wrestle to the ground. Drag the car back to our front yard and present the crumpled corpse of the Chrysler as the spoil of war.One afternoon Ginger finally caught one. My Grandpa had been visiting and took off down the driveway. Ginger was off in the field and found himself in perfect position for an attack from the flank. Grandpa only ever saw a *poof* of dust and a red-haired dog rolling up the driveway. Ginger gained a temporary limp and a scratched up chest, but most importantly he learned a good lesson. Be careful what you chase because one day you might catch it. This week we'll look at a story that sees the Israelites getting what they want so badly in comedically oversized portions. There are times when our desires take up the whole of our attention that we never bother to ask why these desires and what we would do if they were met.

And in my estimation, the best humans among us are the ones who travel their road with moral fortitude--the best among us are those who love the best they can. I know this might come across as fairytale-ish to some, but I truly believe this to be so.   My Grandpa Joe has never been a perfect man. But I can say with certainty that he has always loved; and although that love maybe imperfect, it’s always been at the heart of who he wants and strives to be and he has modeled well for me how a man should love and cherish his wife.  And what higher endeavor can a man aspire to than to love and reduce suffering in the world? There are those in this world who honestly “TRY” to be a good person. And there are those who make no effort at all to be “good.” My grandfather is the former--and for that I am deeply grateful. My Grandpa has always been a prominent figure in my life. He’s always been a strong man. A man of grit and determination. He’s honestly one of the most physically tough human beings I’ve ever met. Growing up during the Great Depression and in a state of abject poverty he was hardened and forever shaped by the rigors of his youth and on this podcast, myself, my sister, Katie and her husband Bryce talk with my Grandfather about his interesting and diverse life. So take a listen to this long conversation and then stop complaining about the traffic, or your job, or how things aren’t fair because they could be a whole lot worse. In the words of Jordan B. And since Hiroshima we know what is at stake.”    In other words, man is self-determining AND life has meaning. So act like it. Live a life that is intrinsically good and worth remembering.
