Back when he did he had the full support of his granny who told him that when she looked into his eyes when he was born she would love him for the rest of her life and love who he loves. Justin does say that watching Philadelphia with Tom Hanks traumatized him at the time. For years he was the real life Hannah Montana of Mesquite because he didn't want anyone to know that he started doing drag, because he was afraid of being judged. We get to know all about how he got started in drag and how he was crowned Miss Texas, Miss USA and Miss America and Miss All American Goddess. He was the Vanessa Williams of drag after getting dethroned. The world famous Shangela was back up dancing for him at the time. He talks about how the "Rose Room" at the S4 club in Dallas was like a wonderland to him and that room changed his life. We find out how he chose Alyssa Edwards to be his stage name. We learn about the coolest surprise that MTV did for him later on in his career. Hunter is a trained opera singer graduating from Texas State with a degree in vocal performance. The biggest names in Hollywood and Broadway recorded for AFRS during the war years, The American Forces Network can trace its origins back to May 26, 1942, when the War Department established the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS). The U.S. Army began broadcasting from London during World War II, using equipment and studio facilities borrowed from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The first transmission to U.S. troops began at 5:45 p.m. on July 4, 1943, and included less than five hours of recorded shows, a BBC news and sports broadcast. That day, Corporal Syl Binkin became the first U.S. Military broadcasters heard over the air. The signal was sent from London via telephone lines to five regional transmitters to reach U.S. troops in the United Kingdom as they prepared for the inevitable invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. Fearing competition for civilian audiences the BBC initially tried to impose restrictions on AFN broadcasts within Britain (transmissions were only allowed from American Bases outside London and were limited to 50 watts of transmission power) and a minimum quota of British produced programming had to be carried. Nevertheless, AFN programs were widely enjoyed by the British civilian listeners who could receive them, and once AFN operations transferred to continental Europe (shortly after D-Day) AFN were able to broadcast with little restriction with programs available to civilian audiences across most of Europe (including Britain) after dark. As D-Day approached, the network joined with the BBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to develop programs especially for the Allied Expeditionary Forces. Mobile stations, complete with personnel, broadcasting equipment, and a record library were deployed to broadcast music and news to troops in the field. The mobile stations reported on front line activities and fed the news reports back to studio locations in London.

Lee Walter is a familiar face in both the Dallas LGBTQ and theatre communities as one of the top actors, vocalist and artists in both scenes. Since 2004, she's performed drag under the name Jada Pinkett Fox at clubs around North Texas, including the world renown Rose Room, the Statler Hilton, Rainbow Lounge, and both Alexandre's and Woody's. Lee was named Best Local Dramatic  Actor/Actress of the Year in 2019 by the Dallas Voice, most recently appearing as Audra in Little Shop of Horrors.

Rabbi Daniel Swartz, Spiritual Leader of Temple Hesed in Scranton and Executive Director of the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life, speaking about his invitation from the Vatican to take part in an ongoing multifaith effort to address climate change, "Faith & Science: Towards COP26". Wipe your tears, put on your Sunday best & listen. Milwaukee’s Liv Mueller is a songstress who has lived in the likes of Nashville, Austin and the fine Midwest. Her vocals are a beautiful combination of sparkle and smoke, taking any listener to another time,when artists like Peggy Lee and Connie Francis reigned. Liv started singing and writing years ago, in a Rockabilly band called The Screaming Lillies; barely 19, she packed up and relocated to herself to Nashville from the Midwest where she performed at places like Tootsies and The Rose Room while supplementing her income occasionally by playing for money on the streets with an open guitar case. Not long after Nashville, Austin became her next home wherein she formed the first incarnation of The Lovelies, reforming the band after returning to the Midwest is where The Lovelies had the most success, recording four records,and playing relentlessly over an eight year span. Two albums were released under her next endeavor, The Dark Horse Project. Production team Marc Hutner and Grant Curry (Pleasure Club) helped her to streamline the new sounds that were galloping in her head, capturing a beautiful and haunted landscape of listening. Recording deep in the south of the Louisiana bayou proved to be just what she needed to redefine her next phase of writing and performing. In the last several years, Liv prefers to play solo, releasing two records – the first solo release entitled Liv Sings: Love Songs For The Forlorn And Misguided, and the most recent (released in spring of 2017), Liv Sings: Light Of The Valley Shadow Of The Mountain; she composed, played, recorded and mixed both albums nearly entirely alone in her home studio.

The play has subsequently been produced in over 2,500 theatres worldwide. A movie version of Daddy’s Dyin’ was released in 1990 by MGM starring Beau Bridges, Tess Harper, Judge Reinhold, Keith Carradine and Beverly D’Angelo. Shores wrote the screenplay and executive produced the film. Sordid Lives, his fourth play, opened in Los Angeles in 1996 and ran 13 sold-out months. The play went on to win 14 Drama-Logue Theatre Awards, including three for Shores for writing, directing and producing. There have since been over 300 additional stage productions of the play. In 1999, Shores wrote and directed the film version of Sordid Lives starring Beau Bridges, Delta Burke, Olivia Newton-John, Bonnie Bedelia, Leslie Jordan and Beth Grant along with most of the original cast from the play. His stand-up career continued to explode and he launched his third national tour in 2012 with Del Shores: Naked.Sordid.Reality. The tour became his most successful, playing over 50 dates. He returned to the Rose Room to film the show in March 2013, which will be released in the fall of 2014. He continues to tour with his “best of” stand-up called Del Shores: My Sordid Best.Shores filmed his play Southern Baptist Sissies in January 2013. The film played the film festival circuit and won fifteen festival awards, nine of them Audience Awards. Milling About visits the Bath Street Inn in Santa Barbara, California. Host Robin Milling chats with co-owner Deborah about this lovely 1895 Victorian home which was gifted by Mr. Hales to his wife Abigail for their 50th wedding anniversary. In fact, Deborah tells Robin that The Abigail Room is the former master bedroom where guests have reported sightings of a white-haired woman sitting on the edge of their bed. This however was 15 years before their time with the inn so Deborah jokes that perhaps she's moved out! The Bath Street Inn is a mixture of the old and the new with eight guest rooms. We stayed in The Rose Room, aptly named for the wallpaper which has a jacuzzi; perfect at the end of a long day walking downtown Santa Barbara. The newer Summer House with fireplaces and jacuzzis is adjacent to the wisteria covered courtyard where breakfast is also served. And breakfast is a healthier vegetarian alternative which Deborah says was put into place because the former owner wasn't exactly a morning person! Each morning homemade granola with seeds and nuts is served along with fresh fruit complimented by gourmet-style meatless dishes. You will never miss the meat or taste the difference as they are delicious as well as nutritious. During our stay we were served peach-topped croissant french toast, baked pear with ginger sauce, eggs florentine with raspberry muffins, and pain perdu with cherry berry stuffing...yum! Discovered near Kensington, Minnesota, by Olof Ohman in 1898, the Kensington Runestone, a 200lb slab of grey rock covered on one side of runes, has been the subject of scholarly debate for over a century. If real, the Kensington Runestone would change history and suggest Scandinavian explorers reached the middle of North America earlier then scientists think---as early as the 14th century. This lecture is presented by Dr. Henrik Williams on 9/23/2010 in the Rose Room of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.
