Directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are legendary stunt performers and coordinators, and one of the joys of their movies getting bigger with each installment is seeing Stahelski (who now directs the films solo) fold in more and more action pros from around the world, like Mark Dacascos of Wu Assassins fame or The Raid's Yayan Ruhian. John Wick: Chapter 4 continues this tradition, notably with Hong Kong star Donnie Yen and the king of direct-to-video action himself, Scott Adkins - but like we've never seen him before. Scott Adkins is normally seen doing insanely athletic kicks. He has the sort of physique you might expect from someone who must convincingly portray action heroes who can knock someone's lights out with his shins. Here, on the other hand, is how he will appear as "Killa" in John Wick: Chapter 4:Adkins is playing against type here in a way that feels a lot like Colin Farrell's Penguin in The Batman - and previous Adkins movies like Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday show off the action star's willingness to have fun while kicking ass. Regardless of how much pain Adkins dishes out (or doesn't!) as Killa, John Wick: Chapter 4 is Adkins' highest-profile role to date. It may be a lot of people's first exposure to him. The livestreaming service is testing Follower Emotes that let broadcasters hand out up to five emotes just for following their channels. You can only use the emotes in the channels where you earned them, unlike subscription emotes, but this lets you show support for a streamer without having to use generic or third-party icons.Certain Affiliates and Partners will get these follow-specific emotes as part of a beta. The feedback from the test should lead to a wider rollout later in 2021.There will be an extra motivation to pay, mind you. Twitch is introducing Animated Emotes for Tier 1 subscribers that, as the name implies, add a dash of movement. Creators will have up to five animated icons they can either produce from scratch or quickly build using canned animations like shaking, spinning and "rave." Partners will have access in weeks (including big names like Seum), while Affiliates should see them by the end of 2021. And yes, Twitch is aware they could be dangerous or annoying for some viewers — you'll have the option to turn them off.Channel owners will have an easier time managing emotes through a new Library that provides control over every approved emote, whether or not it's active. A streamer can retire or revive emotes without having to seek re-approval or otherwise walk through the upload process. This could be particularly helpful for holidays and other times when themed emotes are popular. The Library will be available to all Affiliates and Partners, but access will be phased in over the course of a few months.Twitch said the emote updates would help mark its 10th anniversary, and that there was "so much more planned" for the milestone. Don't be surprised if you see other sizeable changes, even if Twitch has already announced a few notable examples in advance.Angel - This seems like good news all around! Not just for viewers and streamers but for emote artists. Whats your take on this rollout.GeorgeNotFound's scuffed hot tub stream shatters Pokimane's Twitch recordFirst from DexertoMinecraft YouTuber and Twitch megastar GeorgeNotFound shocked fans with an extremely scuffed hot tub stream that ended up shattering a viewership record previously held by Pokimane.On June 2, GeorgeNotFound took to Twitter to announce he was having an “epic hot tub stream” and fans absolutely ate it up.things got off to a super rocky start, as a hole in the tub started causing water to leak out of the pool and into his house. Despite this, he persevered and eventually got into the tub, albeit with clothes on.Crazily, this stunt resulted in over 350,000 viewers, demolishing Pokimane and OfflineTV's hot tub stream record that pulled 100K.Throughout the stream, George would spin a wheel with a bunch of humiliating tasks on it and whichever it landed on he would perform.These included the ever awkward “change into a new outfit” task, which poked fun at female streamers who often switch up their bikinis throughout a broadcast to even drinking the water in the tub.While the whole broadcast didn't end up lasting too long, it did create some pretty entertaining moments, kicked off some new merch sales and broke the previous hot tub viewership record.Rebel - This is obviously a pretty funny take on the hot tub meta. How do you feel about the overall shift to this type of stream?Twitch Manages To Get Out Some 'Disappointment' With Music Industry Over Latest Round Of DMCA ClaimsTwitch recently sent out an email that it had received roughly 1,000 additional DMCA takedown notices, almost all of them again over music playing in the background of recorded Twitch videos.Said Twitch in its email on Friday: “We are committed to being more transparent with you about DMCA. We recently received a batch of DMCA take down notifications with about 1,000 individual claims from music publishers.“All of the claims are for the VODs and the vast majority target streamers listening to background music while playing video games or IRL streaming. Based on the number of claims we believe these rights holders used automated tools to scan and identify copyrighted music in creators VODs and clips, which means that they will likely send further notices."Of course they will. Twitch invited them to when it showed itself to be a willing partner in treating Twitch creators like a testing ground for DMCA cluster bombs. There are platforms out there that manage to both treat DMCA requests seriously and also provide some protection, or at least communication, to its users.A few tools for creators aside, Twitch's inaction on behalf of its creative community amounted essentially to greenlighting ever more DMCA takedowns from the music industry. Any surprise at that by the Amazon-owned company is laughable.But this neutered, throwaway line from that same email is simply maddening.“This is our first such contact from the music publishing industry (there can be several owners for a single piece of music) and we are disappointed that they decided to send takedowns when we were willing and ready to speak to them about solutions.”Jacqie - Twitch acting like they are willing to talk here is kind of laughable right? They went ahead before with their music service and didnt engage the industry then to meet their needs. Although the information was forgotten due to the lack of official information – or more leaks – it seems that we will finally see the game during E3 2021. And it is that Square Enix announced that it will hold an event to present its next news.Even more important, at the digital conference the presence of Eidos Montreal is confirmed with a World Premiere. That is, the announcement of a completely new project. If the above clues weren't enough, we should point out that Jason Schreier, a Bloomberg journalist and one of the most trusted sources in the industry, all but confirmed it.Now, Schreier's words have great importance because it was he himself who signed the Kotaku report in 2017. Are you apprehensive at all for this title due to the way Avengers failed to meet many peoples expectations?The Twitter Blue subscription service starts rolling out ThursdayFrom the Verge,Twitter has officially announced Twitter Blue, a paid subscription service that offers access to new features like undoing tweets and viewing threads in an easier to digest “Reader Mode.” Starting Thursday, it will roll out first in Canada and Australia, where the subscription will cost $3.49 CAD or $4.49 AUD per month, respectively. We already had a good idea of what features to expect from Twitter Blue thanks to sleuthing from app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, but now Twitter has detailed everything the service includes.A new undo send feature gives you the option of retracting your tweets before they actually go live, and you can set a timer for undoing your tweets that can last up to 30 seconds. A Bookmark Folders feature lets you group saved tweets to make them easier to find later. “Reader Mode” lets you keep up with threads by “turning them into easy-to-read text” and mashing together tweets into one page. Other Twitter Blue features are purely aesthetic: it adds new color theme options as well as the ability to change the color of Twitter's app icon.Offering a paid subscription service is a significant change to Twitter's business model that the company has been considering for some time. From the vergeDiscovery is merging with WarnerMedia, and it's now announced a new name for the combined company: Warner Bros. Discovery. According to The Wall Street Journal, the name was first revealed during a staff meeting today.The merger was announced last month. AT&T said it would spin off WarnerMedia — the entertainment giant containing Warner Bros., HBO, DC Comics, and CNN, among many others — and that Discovery would take over the new company. But they didn't have a new name prepared on the day the deal was announced.AT&T and Discovery expect the merger to wrap up in mid-2022, assuming it clears regulatory hurdles. AT&T shareholders will own 71 percent of the new company, so it's really more like WarnerMedia is being freed from AT&T and picking up Discovery along the way.The hope is that the combined entertainment giant can become an even bigger player in streaming than the two are independently today. One of January's new releases is xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, so we at Underground Inc. decided to catch up with the original xXx. I'm not sure if it needed to be a 2 hour movie...but hey, the stuntmen in this flick deserve some MAJOR credit, as the film actually used Stuntmen and didn't just CGI the crap out of the violence-fest that is this film. The writing wasn't bad, wasn't great, but it pushed the plot along, so it did its job. Vin, was as always, Vin, and deep-voiced-flexed his way through a pretty entertaining action flick, with definite roots in the Spy Movie greats. All in all, an alright movie, with an alright cast, and an impossible-to-internet-search-title. Did you know Donnie Yen's going to be in the new xXx? Review: Doctor Strange Opening and Closing Song: Feel Invincible by Skillet Yeah don't listen to me about the Trailer Spot, I lied. Or rather I spoke the truth and then went back on my word. But as you can see while you are reading this, even without the trailer this week the show crested an hour. So hopefully for those of you that had your hopes set on xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, keep those hopes up for next week when I get to it.
Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan reflect on the remarkable 2010 film Klovn, before finally venturing into the raunchy, uncomfortable world of Klovn Forever. Starring Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen, the movie which is based off the show of the same name, puts the two comedians in very awkward positions and lets us watch as things spiral out of control. However, we ponder things this episode about whether some of it goes too far or if this sequel is less fun because of more disregard for who it might be offensive too. Dylan also talks about Werner Herzog's new documentary, Into the Inferno, where Herzog takes on a volcano. And he also talks about I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in The House, which is a new Netflix film that is directed by Anthony Perkins's son, Oz Perkins. We also discuss a lot of ridiculous news and a pretty weak blu-ray release week (including Star Trek Beyond, which we recorded a podcast about). Most importantly though, we talk about the new xXx: The Return of Xander Cage trailer very briefly. You mainly just hear Chris get excited a lot. Next week, we will be back to swap dimensions with the new Marvel film, Doctor Strange from Sinister director, Scott Derrickson.
