Can you break through the fear to find the hope and the light?I'm so happy to share this episode as our country prepares to make a very important decision this November. My friend Colette and I discuss Dr. Edith Eger's hellish journey as a Holocaust survivor and are inspired by and marvel at her ability to choose goodness, hope, and love in the face of unspeakable evils and trauma. We reflect on the power we all have in our choices—to see ourselves as the victims or as the captains of our own lives. Colette also drops some beautiful nuggets of wisdom along the way!Listener discretion advised: this episode contains adult language, descriptions of horrific abuse, and attempted rapeIf you have any comments or questions, please connect with me on Instagram or email babesinbooklandpodcast@gmail.com. Chapter 1What is The ChoiceIn the profound and poignant memoir The Choice, Edith Eger shares her harrowing journey of survival from the horrors of Auschwitz and her transformation into a renowned psychologist. Through a blend of personal narrative and professional insights, Eger illustrates the essence of human resilience. As a teenager, she is sent to the infamous Nazi concentration camp, where she suffers unimaginable losses, including the death of her parents. Rather than being crushed by despair, Eger embarks on a lifelong quest to understand and overcome her past, emphasizing the power of choice in human freedom. She teaches us that our most painful experiences can become the pathways to healing and forgiveness. The Choice is not just a tale of survival, but a guidebook that encourages transcending trauma through choice—choosing hope over despair, compassion over cruelty, and love over hate. This story inspires readers to liberate themselves from the prisons of their own minds and embrace the possibility of a life filled with purpose.Chapter 2 Meet the Writer of The ChoiceEdith Eger's "The Choice" effectively blends a deeply personal narrative with psychological insights, utilizing a clear, evocative prose style that underscores the resilience and profound emotional journey of its author. Eger's writing is marked by its poetic economy—she chooses concise words that pack a powerful emotional punch, ensuring that each phrase contributes both to the forward motion of the storyline and the deeper narrative of healing and forgiveness. Her tone varies from reflective to instructive, seamlessly integrating her professional expertise as a psychologist with her personal experiences as a Holocaust survivor. This dual vantage point fostils a storytelling approach that is both engaging and enlightening. Eger uses metaphor and simile adeptly, allowing readers to understand complex emotions and psychological states in new and revealing ways.Dialogue in the memoir is used sparingly but effectively; when Eger quotes conversations, they provide key insights into character development and emotional states, furthering the emotional depth and the universality of the themes addressed. By using her own life as a case study, Eger not only tells a personal story but also illustrates a broader human struggle, making her narrative accessible and resonant for a diverse audience.Overall, Eger's language style in "The Traffic" is poignant, directly contributing to the reader's comprehension and empathy. Her careful balance of narrative and reflection invites readers into deep engagement, not just with her history but with their own inner landscapes.Chapter 3 Deeper Understanding of The ChoiceTo provide an accurate and insightful analysis of the impact of "The Choice" on literature, culture, or society, it's important to clarify the specific work you are referring to, as there are multiple books and a film titled "The Choice."1. "The Choice" by Nicholas Sparks (2007) - This novel, like many of Sparks' works, dives into themes of love, fate, and the decisions people make that shape their destinies. In terms of cultural impact, Nicholas Sparks has often been credited with popularizing and reinforcing specific tropes in the romance genre, particularly in contemporary literature and film. His works commonly feature star-crossed lovers, moral dilemmas, and dramatic settings, influencing not only readers' expectations for romance narratives but also filmmakers in the romance genre, evident in the multiple adaptations of his books.2. "The Choice: Embrace the Possible" by Dr. Edith Eva Eger (2017) - This non-fiction work, penned by Holocaust survivor and psychologist Dr. Edith Eva Eger, explores the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity, the freedom of choice in response to suffering, and the therapeutic power of...

In this extraordinary episode of The HEAL Podcast, we bring you a story that will touch your heart and inspire your soul. Join us as we delve into the remarkable life of 95-year-old Dr. Edith Eva Eger, a survivor of Auschwitz, distinguished clinical psychologist, and bestselling author. Edith's life's journey is a testament to the incredible power of resilience, healing, and the unwavering human spirit. At just 16 years old, she and her family were transported to the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp where she would barely survive the horrors of the Holocaust. After being liberated and immigrating to the United States, she embarked on her own healing journey which led to a career in psychology and a deep desire to help others break free from victimhood and become a survivor.   Accompanied by her grandson Jordan, who helps her navigate the tech and sometimes awkward world of ZOOM, Edie shares her insights on how we can all harness the power within us to overcome trauma and transform our lives.   In this episode, we touch on Dr. Eger's most recent book, The Gift: 12 Lessons to Save Your Life. These 12 lessons shed enormous light on the transformative power of choice.  She reminds us that even in the face of unimaginable trauma, the power to choose how we respond remains within our grasp, igniting the path towards healing and living a fulfilling life.    Dr. Eger leaves us with a message of hope, encouraging us to embrace our wounds as gifts that unlock our very potential, so we can lead a life of courage, empowerment, and purpose. I truly believe if Edie can survive the unfathomable evil of Auschwitz, and then go onto thrive in all areas of life, we can overcome ANYTHING.    LINKS Dr. Eger's Website: https://dreditheger.com/ Dr. Eger On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.editheger/ 'The Gift' on Amazon - https://amzn.to/44lyeCa 'The Choice' on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3OIARIH Unlocking Your Potential Course: https://yoursoulsearch.org/unlocking-your-potential Forgiveness Course: https://yoursoulsearch.org/forgiveness SHOW CHAPTERS: 0:00 Introduction 2:05 Dr. Eger's Personal Story 7:15 The Power of Hope & Flexibility 10:00 The Choices We Make & The Permission We Give 16:00 The Love-Time Connection 20:15 Processing & Finding Forgiveness 31:45 Overcoming Survivor's Guilt & Imprisonment 40:50 Dr. Eger's Advice For Today's World 44:50 Jordan's Favorite Dr. Eger Story

How do you live after surviving the holocaust? This is a story of hope and determination against all odds. Edith Eva Eger is a holocaust survivor. Her parents were killed in Auschwitz. She got out and dedicated her life to helping others with PTSD by becoming a psychologist. Once a ballerina and part of the Hungarian Olympic gymnastics team, Edith was sent to Auschwitz with her sister and parents when she was 16. After being separated from her parents, she was made to dance for Josef Mengele known as the Angel of Death, endured horrendous conditions and after a gruelling death march to Gunkirchen, when her kindness in Auschwitz to others came back around, she was eventually found having been left for dead by a US soldier who saw her hand move. Now 95 years old, she has written two books, her memoir The Choice - Embrace the Possible and The Gift - 12 Lessons to Save Your Life. Edith is an inspiration. A gracious, incredibly strong woman. Here, she shares her unimaginable experience with Annie, the reasons she thinks she survived and how what she learnt during the war can help everyone today to handle adversity.Changes is a deaf friendly podcast, transcripts can be accessed here: https://www.anniemacmanus.com/changesContent warning: this episode contains some very upsetting content about the horrors of the holocaust and the events that took place. Going through a divorce can be one of the most emotionally draining experiences a person can go through. It's filled with a range of emotions such as anger, resentment, grief, and regret. The demands of managing these emotions can often feel overwhelming, making it difficult to manage everyday tasks and obligations- like showing up for your students. But, with the right guidance and tools, it's possible to take back control of the situation and move towards a more peaceful future.Welcome to episode 21 of the Take Notes with Jen Rafferty podcast! In this episode, I'm speaking with juris doctorate, certified divorce coach, and a certified Mind Magic practitioner, Sharri Freedman. She helps people manage the difficult emotions of dealing with divorce.Through her work, she provides clients with tools that create a sense of peace and calm that regulate the nervous system so they can transition from simply reacting to the situation to being able to respond in a more constructive way.Divorce stress is real, and it's all encompassing. It's not about “just showing up”, whether it's by distraction or compartmentalizing. Because, pushing through and keeping it together is not what we do here.Today, it's all about highlighting the real feeling of loss associated with divorce in a way that normalizes the grief you feel with the same space and mass as the loss of a life. And, most importantly, to let you know that you are not alone.Stay empowered,Jen Let's keep the conversation going! How many of us have become our identity - be it caregiver, parent, or something else. Not all our beliefs are necessarily self-limiting, but it's important to check in periodically to make sure they continue to serve us. In this interview, Kim and I explore what an intentional community could be and how to create one. The greatest gift any of us can give another human being is to truly see them, not their disability or any other "traditional" identifying characteristic (race, religion, gender, etc). Perhaps the biggest obstacle to creating community is the "us vs them" mentality that seems so pervasive. We challenge you to do your part to put this to rest. I feel it's easy for us, as parents to fall into the trap of believing life just can't get any better. Our children's diagnoses and support needs can be significant. Who else is going to care for them as we do? How can we possibly rely on someone else? It's true there will almost certainly be no one who will care for our children in the same way - we're their parents. Let's flip the script. Do we need someone else to do "everything" we do? Or will our children still have rich and fulfilling lives when we're gone? The reality is most of us will die before our children. The best thing I feel we can do for them is to get things in place now, while we are still here and able to take action. Mire taníthat minket a szenvedésünk? Today I want to make a  toast to 2019!  And do you know why? Cause y'all can't stopping bagging on it! But instead of talking about my year and experiences and why I'm choosing to see the good, I want to refer to Dr Edith Eva Eger. In her book, The Choice, she documents her time before during and after Auschwitz- the mindset she chose to have to survive each day in the holocaust and how her relationship with parents and siblings, her first love and her husband, children, herself were all defined by this horrific year. and the reason why I feel so compelled to share some quotes and insights from her book is because I think all too often, we forget we have a choice. A choice to look at our life, its circumstances, and know that even though we can't always control what's happening around us, we can control how we think about it. And you may be thinking I'm using a holocaust survivors story to tell you that if she could survive the holocaust you can survive 2019, but that's not why... Dr Eger shares her story not only on how she survived that year, but the denial that followed, the trauma that she stored in her mind and body and how she took it out on those around her. How she felt that her childhood was taken from her, that it was too late for her to go to college in her 40's and that it was her husband's fault she was so miserable… all the beliefs she had and then compassion. So much compassion and forgiveness… https://www.ashleymkelsch.com/ https://www.instagram.com/ashleymkelsch/ https://www.facebook.com/AshleymkelschCoaching --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/modernrenegades/message This is a public episode. Some of their investments include Beyond Meat, Thrive Market, and Veggie Grill. Previously, Dan co-founded Health Warrior, which was acquired by PepsiCo in 2018. This was fantastic conversation and Dan discusses what attracted him to investing at young age, his insight that led him to founding Health Warrior and why he is so focused on better for you and plant based foods. One book that inspired Dan is The Choice: Embrace The Possible ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/150113079X?camp=1789&creativeASIN=150113079X&ie=UTF8&linkCode=xm2&tag=theconsumervc-20 ) by Dr. Edith Eva Eger. Some of the questions I ask Dan - * What attracted you to finance and investing in health and wellness products? * Tell me the insight that you had with Chia seed bars and how that led to Health Warrior? * Take me behind your decision making process when you were thinking about taking the jump into entrepreneurship? * After the sale to Pepsi (which congratulations), did you have the urge to start another company? * How did Powerplant Ventures come together? * I understand that your thesis focuses around plant-based products. It seems like you invest in quite a variety of types of businesses around that theme - restaurants, B2B catering, food and beverage products. How do you think about portfolio construction and making sure you have a balance? * In the food and beverage spaces, how do you think about growth, profitability and what does a successful outcome look like? * What are some trends in food that you are excited about? * You've had a-lot of experience as a board member. What makes a good board member? * I believe your our first growth investor on the show. Talk to me a bit about your due diligence process? * What are some qualities that you like to see in founders? * COVID has been top of mind for everybody. * How has it effected you and your portfolio? * Has it been tough meeting with founders remotely rather than in person? * What's one thing you would change about venture capital? * What's one book that inspired you personally and one book that inspired you professionally? * What's your most recent investment and what makes you excited about it? * What's one company that you had the opportunity to invest in, didn't and in retrospect wish you did? * What's one piece of advice that you have for founders?
