If you put someone from 1985 in a modern car, what would they be most surprised by? Hint: Why is it so much easier to get a speeding ticket today? === Click here to join the Hagerty Driver's Club: https://bit.ly/Join-HDC-Cammisa-Rev === The Carmudgeons chat briefly about Jake's Honda CR-Z — a manual, hybrid, very good-looking car — and why it doesn't have a K20 or K24 instead. The main point of discussion, though, was started by Jason's drive in his Scirocco looking at how high 1980s cars rev on the highway. And he explains why '80s cars are geared so short (it's to achieve their relatively low top speeds at their relatively high-rpm power peaks.) In discussing this, Jason explains how German car companies chose their top-gear ratio. (Hint: it's to maximize top speed.) But there are, of course, other major changes since the 1980s — and not just things like keyless-start and infotainment. Or just power. NVH, mostly as a function of torsional rigidity, has changed dramatically. And with it, safety. Including things like ABS, ESC, AEB, FCW, and then of course all the other driver aids we take for granted today. Including the ones like BAS — brake assist — which several times accidentally almost caused Jason to have a crash. (Or make someone else crash.) But... Jason does describe a few times he experienced modern automatic braking systems have actually avoided an accident that WOULD have happened. One in a VW and one in a Mercedes, that could have caused him to hit pedestrians. It was a triumph of modern safety technology. Also, cars have grown tremendously in size and weight. And the total area of the glass has shrunk considerably, so visibility has changed for the worse. So has ride quality — today's cars have far stiffer suspension, coupled with large wheels and small sidewalls. 1980s cars often rode more smoothly than today's cars. And much more! A vast survey covering seven decades of art by Yoko Ono has just opened at Tate Modern, and we take a tour of the show with Juliet Bingham, its curator. The collection from Elton John's home in Atlanta in the US is up for auction at Christie's and ahead of its big Opening Night auction next week, The Art Newspaper's associate digital editor Alexander Morrison spoke to Tash Perrin, Christie's deputy chairman in the Americas, about the works and John's particular taste in art and objects. And this episode's Work of the Week is a reconstructed and reimagined statue of the fourth-century Roman emperor, Constantine the Great. The colossus has been remade from the 10 known fragments of the original sculpture by the Madrid-based Factum Foundation, and was installed last week in a garden in Rome's Capitoline Museums. Prices on cars approaching classic status can "pop" and go up dramatically in price in a very short period of time. Examples of enthusiast cars whose prices have "popped" recently include the 1990-1996 Nissan 300ZX and 300ZX Turbo, the Acura Integra Type-R and the 6th Gen Honda Civic Si from 1999-200014:20 - WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK FOR IN AN ACURA TSX?Get the manual transmission model Get the manual transmission modelGet the manual transmission model (subtle, right?) This week: the Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report 2022 is out—is the market's recovery as good as it sounds? We talk to Melanie Gerlis, art market columnist for The Art Newspaper and the Financial Times, about the sixth edition of the market report, what the headline figures tell us and what we can read between the lines. As the exhibition Hideouts: The Architecture of Survival, opens at the Zacheta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw—focusing on the spaces in Poland and Ukraine used by Holocaust survivors to escape Nazi persecution—we talk to the artist behind it, Natalia Romik. Though long planned, the show has gained a troubling topicality as the Russian invasion and destruction of Ukraine continues. And in this episode's Work of the Week, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of Piet Mondrian's birth, we discuss his painting Victory Boogie Woogie (1942-44). Caro Verbeek, the co-curator of Mondrian Moves, an exhibition opening this week at the Kunstmuseum den Haag in the Hague, the Netherlands, tells us about the feverish creation and unfinished nature of the Dutch artist's final work.Natalia Romik's exhibition, Hideouts: The Architecture of Survival, Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw, until 17 July; TRAFO Center for Contemporary Art, Szczecin, Poland, 4 August-6 NovemberMondrian Moves, Kunstmuseum den Haag, the Hague, Netherlands, 2 April-25 September. Published Under Former Name: K12ish, now The Edtech Incubator. You've heard of edchats on Twitter, and you've probably seen teacher-focused Facebook groups. But have you ever felt like they weren't enough? Like maybe there was a better way to build community among educators online... Well, that's the story of K20 Educators and its founder Vriti Saraf. You see: Vriti traveled the world connecting with teachers and what she noticed was that most worked in isolation of each other. That even with social media, they struggled to connect with their peers. And thus the story of K20 starts. In this episode, Anna is sitting down with Vriti to learn what it takes to reimagine social media and professional development in a single platform. We got K20 in the building! Jason, Joshua, and Terry join me on a Saturday. We begin with announcements, and start out on a topic of the black spots in Nashville (4:26), then we get into the young married life/paying for sex (12:05), then go on a food tangent (01:10:47), then we close with who strolls the best on K20 (01:35:55). This is a good one for my young married folks out there. I know we like to comment on what married people do, so why not hear it from people who actually are? I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday from The G Talk Podcast! Music: Give Love On Christmas Day x The Jackson 5, Player's Ball x OutKast.

Last Night A DJ Saved My Life”.

In this episode of Opportunity Thrives, we discuss a topic that certainly isn’t new, but has evolved with the digital age: cheating, and how to maintain digital integrity when implementing an online curriculum program for today’s middle and high school students. For as long as students have sat in a desk, they have found creative ways to cheat in order to pass a test. All of the same student motivations still apply in a digital setting, but the strategies are slightly different. Two guests on this episode, Kecia Ray and John Watson, participated in a discussion on how districts can implement safeguards and best practices to reduce the incidences of cheating and discuss where many might fall short when it comes to digital integrity. John Watson is the Evergreen Education Group founder and primary researcher. He has two decades of experience in online learning and education technology conducting, writing, and presenting research as well as providing testimony on digital learning matters to state boards of education, legislatures, and charter school commissions. Dr. Kecia Ray has devoted her career to education technology and is the former executive director for the Center for Digital Education, Ray has worked as an administrator for the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools and for the Tennessee Commissioner of Education. She was also named one of the top 10 EdTech Leaders by Tech and Learning magazine and a top 100 EdTech Influencer by EdTech Digest. She now leads K20 Connect, a network of education and technology leaders focused on building effective practices in K20 education.

Vlad Horol is a spoken word artist and is also works for Devar Emet Messianic Synagogue in Skokie, Illinois. This episode is sponsored by David Kasdan Videography. New Releases and Announcements- Veiled Messiah, Zion's Sake, Lawra Elizabeth Interview with Vlad Horol Vlad Horol- Hanukkah Interview with Vlad Horol continued I recently debuted a video I worked on for the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations. I was commissioned to create a video about the K20 program. The K20 program is a program to help raise up new leaders for Messianic Synagogues. I made a mini-documentary about Vlad Horol, who is a K20 intern for Devar Emet Messianic Synagogue in Skokie, Illinois. Since I spent a whole day filming Vlad I also asked him questions for this podcast. I especially focused on his spoken word. If you represent a Messianic music group please contact me at messianicmedia@gmail.com. I am especially looking to play Messianic music that is outside the traditional worship genre because I think there are currently less opportunities to hear their music.
