Filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller's resume is a laundry list of hits: Project Hail Mary, The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and more. Their success with projects that didn't initially seem like good ideas has even spawned a verb in Hollywood, “to Lord and Miller” something. Now they sit down with Mike to discuss the positive and negative ramifications of that. They also discuss the test screening process of Project Hail Mary, and working with Nicolas Cage on their new series Spider-Noir. Plus, they reveal the five films that would be on the syllabus of Lord and Miller University. This week we will be taking a look at the 2026 sci-fi adventure film PROJECT HAIL MARY. It was produced and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (the team behind Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs, The LEGO Movie and Sony's Miles Morales Spider-verse franchise) and based on the novel by Andy Weir (author of The Martian). In the film, science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. As his memories slowly return, he discovers that he must figure out the puzzle behind a mysterious substance that's causing the sun to die out -- but he may not have to do it alone…for a lone alien is also on the same mission as his star is also dimming from the same mysterious substance and not the two of them have to team up to save both their worlds. Tune in and find out what we thought.
As tensions with Iran continue to worsen, President Trump needs to make a decision soon. Filling in for Glenn, Pat Gray and Jeff Fisher discuss how Iran appears to be doing whatever it wants to do, regardless of the ceasefire agreement. Jeffy gives his Fat Five headlines, including layoffs at Facebook as Meta pivots toward AI and baby chickens hatching from a 3D-printed artificial egg. Pat and Jeffy react to the latest political ad by Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, which parodies "The Lego Movie's" “Everything Is Awesome” song. The guys also react to CNBC's interview with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos on wealth in America and the current tax system. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) bodied Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) during a voting rights and redistricting hearing. Jeffy gives the top ten reputable companies, according to consumers. With the absolute massive box office success of The Super Mario Bros. Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Apparel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ In this full Super Mario Galaxy movie reaction, the Reel Rejects crew dives deep into the incredible, fast-paced world building and jaw-dropping computer graphics of Illumination's latest video game adaptation masterpiece. We break down the massive ensemble cast, including Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Lego Movie) returning as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) as Princess Peach, and Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Pacific Rim) reprising his role as Luigi. We also check out the massive new cast additions, including Brie Larson (Captain Marvel, Room) as outer-space princess Rosalina, Donald Glover (Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story) bringing the iconic Yoshi to life, and Benny Safdie (Oppenheimer, Uncut Gems) as the unhinged, approval-seeking Bowser Jr. Our hosts break down all the chaotic, sensory-overload action sequences, the mind-blowing transitions from 2D tribute animation back into full 3D models, and the amazing orchestral score by composer Brian Tyler. From the introduction of the Boomsday weapon and Bowser Jr.'s paintbrush mechanics to the unforgettable Star Fox crossover sequence featuring Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You) as Fox McCloud flying the Arwing, this movie gave our hosts plenty to unpack. We also discuss the unexpected father-son dynamics between Jack Black's (School of Rock, Kung Fu Panda) King Bowser and Bowser Jr., the pixel pinñata party, the Honeyhive Galaxy run featuring Issa Rae (Barbie) as the Honey Queen, Luis Guzmán (Wednesday) as Wart at the GameCube roulette casino table, and that incredible Terminator 2 homage ending with Lava Bowser becoming the Skull King. As we dissect the mixed critic reviews versus the massive audience score, we're asking: is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie better than the first film? Does the bare minimum of storytelling work when a movie completely understands its experiential assignment? And are we officially getting a full-blown Super Smash Bros. cinematic universe? God lytting!

In this episode of "Just Another TRUCKING Podcast," hosts Tom and David dive deep into the greasy reality of the trucking world. It's a bit of a smaller crew today as Jammer is currently in the doghouse with the "Mrs." and Chloe is MIA.Tom kicks things off by sharing his wild week working as a groundsman for a major company (rhymes with "Nespresso"). After months of sitting in a van watching TikToks , he finally got back behind the wheel of a 32-tonne DAF dump truck. From stalling on 20% gradients to nearly blowing out his knee on a stiff manual clutch , Tom breaks down why the era of manual transmissions might finally be over.Inside This Episode:The Art of "Floating" Gears: David explains the mechanics of shifting without a clutch and the secret "clutch brake" most drivers don't even know exists.Trucking Tech: We talk about Volvo's i-Shift, paddle shifting for semis , and why adaptive cruise control is actually terrifying when it starts coasting in neutral. The 24-Hour Asteroid Scenario: A lighthearted debate turns dark as the guys discuss what they'd do with only 24 hours left to live (featuring some very questionable "bucket list" items).Life, Longevity, and Legos: David reveals he is essentially the dad from The Lego Movie (yes, he glues them) , while Tom battles the realization that turning 40 means everything starts clicking.AI vs. Big Energy: How Tom used AI to take on British Gas in a legal dispute over triple-billing.Whether you're a gearhead who loves a non-synchronized 18-speed or just here for the banter about "Black Tar Heroin" jokes (don't do drugs, kids!), this episode has it all.Follow us for more trucking stories and tech talk!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Andries Beckers (Welcome to the AA, Studio Brussel) was een Star Wars-kind.

Is Project Hail Mary the Sci-Fi Event of the Year?
Ground control to Script Apart listeners – today on the show, we're blasting off into the cosmos with three formidable sci-fi storytelling talents. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the writer-director-producer pair responsible for films like Into The Spider-Verse, Across The Spider-Verse, 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street, The Lego Movie and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. Screenwriter Drew Godard, meanwhile, you may know from movies like Cloverfield, Cabin In The Woods, World War Z and Bad Times At The El Royale, which he also directed. Project Hail Mary is their new film, directed by Lord & Miller and written by Drew, and it's one of the most entertaining and defiantly hopeful spectacles of the year so far – a tale of empathy and communication as a weapon against adversity, and another story of an astronaut adrift among the stars, adapted from an author who's made that kinda his specialty. In 2015, Drew worked with Ridley Scott on The Martian – an adaptation of a novel by Andy Weir. A decade later, Drew teamed with Andy again on a film that, from the outside, might look like The Martian Part II. Project Hail Mary, though, is in fact a brilliant inversion of Andy's breakthrough book, and of other similar-sounding space adventure yarns. It stars Ryan Gosling as junior high teacher Ryland Grace – a man who wakes up one day alone on a space shuttle with amnesia, and no recollection of what put him there. Soon he discovers himself to be at the centre of a mission to heal our solar system's dying sun. This dude in a nice cardigan is somehow humanity's last shot at salvation.“So, a bit like Sunshine by Danny Boyle?” I hear you ask. Not really! Despite the cosmic high-stakes involved in that premise, Project Hail Mary has a hilarious lightness of touch about it, and a message about friendship at its core that's remarkable. In the spoiler conversation you're about to hear, first with Drew, then handing over to Phil and Chris, you'll hear exactly how the filmmakers arrived at that tone. Collectively, we break down every twist and turn in Project Hail Mary – including the inspirations behind Rocky, a character that let me be very clear, I would die for. Drew also gives me a couple of insights into what he's cooking up with The Matrix 5, following the announcement a while back that he's going to be helming the next instalment in that saga. Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) are two college friends with a gift for turning “unfilmable” ideas into box office gold. From the cult favourite series Clone High to the high-concept chaos of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, they've built a career on big swings and absurd humour. Now, the Oscar-winning duo is heading into deep space with their new sci-fi blockbuster Project Hail Mary. Lord and Miller join guest host Garvia Bailey to talk about adapting a beloved novel, being fearless in an industry that seems allergic to risk, and what it takes to keep your friendship and creative partnership alive in Hollywood.

Roxy Striar, John Humphrey, & Jon Maturan react to Monsters vs. Aliens (2009), DreamWorks Animation's colorful, fast-paced sci-fi comedy that pays loving tribute to classic monster movies while delivering big laughs and surprising heart. Directed by Rob Letterman and Conrad Vernon, the film blends B-movie spectacle with family-friendly humor and blockbuster action. The story follows Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon – Legally Blonde, Big Little Lies), who is struck by a meteor on her wedding day and grows to 49 feet tall—earning the government-assigned name Ginormica. She's quickly recruited into a secret military team of monsters that includes Dr. Cockroach Ph.D. (Hugh Laurie – House, Veep), B.O.B. (Seth Rogen – Superbad, Pineapple Express), The Missing Link (Will Arnett – Arrested Development, The Lego Movie), and Insectosaurus (Kiefer Sutherland – 24, The Lost Boys). Together, they're tasked by General W.R. Monger (Kelsey Grammer – Frasier, X-Men: The Last Stand) with stopping the alien invader Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson – The Office, Super). Packed with standout moments like Ginormica's San Francisco rampage, B.O.B.'s indestructible antics, the monster team's Tokyo showdown, and the climactic battle against Gallaxhar's robot drone, Monsters vs. Aliens balances spectacle with themes of self-worth, independence, and embracing what makes you different. Into the Keatonverse! For this week's bonus, we're going meta with Alejandro González Iñárritu's exceedingly self aware Oscar-winner that's definitely not about Batman or Michael Keaton's career. What do we talk about when we talk about Batman? Listen to find out. Next week it's another bonus, Lord and Miller's LEGO MOVIE. It counts because Batman is in it! Well hello there everybody, and welcome back to another exciting episode of Trophy Talk. This month we're back to basics with just Colin and Josh so grab a beer , settle in and join them in some long and winding discussions surrounding a cadre of gaming topics. As we do these shows on a monthly cadence now a lot can happen between episodes, and this was definitely the case over the last four week period. Not only did we have the major reveal of Bungie's new extraction shooter Marathon, but we were also greeted with a shadow drop of a beloved 360 era RPG Oblivion, a full state of play on Borderlands 4, and a new trailer and firmed in release date for Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei. It truly is a wonderful year to be a gamer, (price increases on hardware and software withstanding). So, as this is a lot of news, and a lot of potential trophy lists and Platinums to earn we naturally spend some time talking about all of these reveals. Perhaps most relevant to all of us though, is that Oblivion now has a Platinum trophy, and one that seemingly doesn't look to difficult to obtain. Oblivion Remaster boasts the kind of list that allows you to play the game how you want to, as any class, race or skill build and still be able to earn the Platinum. While some people may find this type of list to easy, Colin and Josh feel like it's right at home in the open world RPG genre. After our news related topics and discussions we of course jump in to what we've been playing. Josh waxes poetic about a few games on the Xbox side (with parody in PSN trophy lists) as well as continuing to defend his Brick Master title with The Lego Movie 2 Videogame. Colin continues his hiking journey across the post-apocalyptic United States in Death Stranding (and still absolutely loves it even after 60 hours), and dabbles back with an old classic in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Lastly of course we have our Discord / Patreon write ins as well as our Platinum shout outs. We cover a good deal of topics in this episode with some really great conversation, even if we do go on tangents from time to time. Regardless, we hope that you all enjoy the episode. It was a blast to record as always. Thank you for listening, and take care.
Ryan Coogler's SINNERS opened #1 to $45 million. Do Michael B. Jordan or vampires or Bradley Cooper benefit the most from this great debut? We break it down. Plus KING OF KINGS has an incredible Easter hold for #2. Is Jesus Christ officially a top shelf animated IP? Plus we answer the critics who think we've been too tough on David Zaslav, and we give the stoners their due for helping the 4/20 box office. Spark up this holiday weekend ep.
