Let's get weird—Polka Party! weird. This week on the Beer'd Al Podcast, Lauren is joined by comedy musician, parody wizard, and all-around awesome human Insane Ian to dive into Side 1 of Weird Al Yankovic's Polka Party! album. We're talking about everything from hernias to spuds, and we're loving every minute of it. Tracks on the menu include:The James Brown sendup “Living with a Hernia”The Talking Heads-flavored “Dog Eat Dog”The deep-fried brilliance of “Addicted to Spuds”The delightfully unhinged original “One of Those Days”And of course, the frantic accordion madness of the title track, “Polka Party!”Ian brings his deep-cut knowledge of comedy music, Lauren brings the beverages, and together they serve up a celebration of this oft-overlooked (but totally lovable) Al-bum. Happy Fourth of July! We really haven't done much with this holiday, so we thought it was an appropriate time to celebrate with William Lustig's 1996 slasher Uncle Sam, a film that features tons of jingoistic American festivities while being pretty blatantly critical of US politics and war. While the film is a bit lackluster, we have a lot of fun calling out the crazy things in the movie: from a peeping tom on stilts, to a fireworks injury, to how good the smoked ribs look. We're also drinking Druthers Brewing Company's Saratoga Vibes lemon-lime pilsner!Approximate timeline0:00-11:00 Intro11:00-20:00 Beer talk20:00-end Uncle Sam

With the Fourth of July upon us, Adam, Joanna, and Zach reflect on the fact that beer no longer is the de facto drink of that holiday and the entire summer, now having to share the stage with hard seltzers, vodka lemonades, hard teas, and a host of other canned and packaged goods that feel just as much at home for outdoor summer drinking occasions as beer does. This week, the boys go treasure hunting with John Huston's 1948 masterpiece “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre”. Dave and Jeff hadn't seen it before, John has seen it several times because he's a fancy film school nerd bro, so we grab a few whiskeys and beers and talk about it! We also catch up on the California tax credit news for film and entertainment, John gives some spoiler-free mini-reviews of “28 Years Later” and “F1”, and we fill you in on all the happenings of 1948 to add context to our feature conversation, which may help you understand why the movie was not a financial hit… at first. When Death of the Fox Brewing Company opened eight years ago, co-founder Chuck Garrity wanted to make sure its Clarksboro, New Jersey-based taproom stayed busy day and night. So to “maximize” Death of the Fox's taproom investment and utility, the company launched by also offering coffee service, Garrity shared during the first edition of the Brewbound Podcast's Learning Lounge: Taproom Tactics series. Offering coffee was part of a total beverage mindset that covered an overlap between beer drinkers and coffee connoisseurs, while adding a revenue stream in one of the strictest operating environments for craft brewery taprooms. “My goal was to always have an on-site coffee roastery,” Garrity explained. “So to be able to produce and roast the coffee in the same way that we produce fresh beer for the brewery. In the same respect, we're doing that with the coffee. To me it just made sense in terms of a business model.” Building an on-site roastery during the COVID-19 pandemic was “a game changer” for the business due to taproom shutdowns. It's now become the dominant portion of the brewery's business. “When we first opened, beer was about 75%, 80% of our sales,” he said. “Now, flash forward eight years later, coffee, in terms of the total company, is about 70% of our sales. Beer is about 20% to 25%.” Garrity added that the brewery's beer sales are still strong, and he's confident that “beer's not going anywhere.” But his philosophy is to “follow where the river takes you, don't fight against the current,” and Death of the Fox's customers were telling him that while they liked the combination of beer and coffee, they really loved the coffee. Listen for more from Garrity on Death of the Fox's mix, growing the coffee side of the business amid strict restrictions on beer and advice for adding an attractive coffee menu. Before this week's featured interview, Jess, Zoe and Justin break down what Barrel One Collective's acquisition of Greater Good Imperial Brewing Company brings to the platform. And the trio play Another Round or Tabbing Out on 1990s nostalgia seeping into CPG, with more waterbed and Jelly shoes talk than you'd expect.

Edna Thorne ////// 852 Part 1of 1 www.TrueCrimeGarage.comPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania June 24, 1975 - 15 year old Edna Christine Thorne went missing after visiting the horse stables near her home. That day she asked her sister is she wanted to go visit the horse with her, but she declined. Edna was last seen leaving the Tioga Street horse stables. Like so many cases in the 70s, the police initially treated Edna's case as a runaway case but eventually concluded this to be unlikely. Authorities now suspect that Edna Thorne was abducted and likely killed.
