At the age of 23,https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelbrodywaite/ ( Michael Brody-Waite) was a full-blown drug addict. Every day he drank a fifth of vodka and a twelve-pack of beer, he smoked two packs of cigarettes and more weed than any human should, and he did whatever other drugs he could get his hands on. He had been kicked out of college, fired from his job, and evicted from his apartment. He had no money and no home. He was throwing up blood and believed he would be dead before his thirtieth birthday. Then, on September 1, 2002, after running out of options and fearing death, he checked into rehab, entered recovery, and has been transforming himself every day since. Michael’s TEDx Nashville YouTube video,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUnRKf2CemA ( Great Leaders Do What Drug Addicts Do), is the number one talk in TEDx Nashville’s history. It has been seen by 1,000,000+ people in 25+ countries and provides insight into his seventeen-year journey from addiction and near homelessness to successful entrepreneurship. This talk sparked the #MaskFreeMovement that brought awareness to Michael’s Mask-Free Program, built on three principles inspired by his recovery, showing leaders how to achieve balance, reclaim energy, and thrive in work and life. Michael is an acclaimed speaker, Inc. 500 entrepreneur, award-winning, three-time CEO, a leadership coach, and author ofhttps://www.amazon.com/Great-Leaders-Live-Like-Addicts-ebook/dp/B07V9WT4R4/ ( Great Leaders Live Like Drug Addicts: How to Lead Like Your Life Depends on It). His accomplishments include being named a Most Admired CEO, named to the Top 40 Under 40, and is recognized by the Nashville Chamber of Commerce as Healthcare Entrepreneur of the Year. “If you’re suffering right now, the worst thing about you can be the best thing about you.” Michael Brody-Waite Worst investment everMichael had always wanted to be an entrepreneur. And so, at the height of the US recession, he decided to max out his credit card, drain his 401k and blow his savings to start a company. The company Michael started was called Inquicker, a platform that lets patients schedule appointments online. At the time in the States, 99% of healthcare appointments were made over the phone. Michael started the company with his partner a year after getting married. They were bootstrapped and became quite successful and ended up being an Inc 500 company. The company grew 20,000% in six years. Hiding his weaknesses so wellAs his success grew, Michael also became quite good at hiding his most significant weaknesses. He had gotten good at telling people that he was a recovering drug addict. But when he started being recognized as a successful CEO, the temptation to hide his weaknesses grew. Michael had always told his story as the homeless drug addict who beat his addiction and becomes a huge success. However, he did not feel like the successful man the world saw him as. Michael was, in fact, struggling to be a great leader. His world starts to crumbleIn 2013 Michael got blindsided by two of his most important relationships. His business partner decided to take his equity away and tried to get him unseated as CEO of their company. At the same time, his marriage was in turmoil, and his wife wanted to file for divorce. While Michael was good at admitting that he was a drug addict, he was bad at admitting how much he was failing to navigate both of these issues. Failing as a leaderWith these two issues hanging over Michael’s head, his role as a leader suffered. Suddenly, this voracious leader who cared about his people was gone because he did not know how to face his team. Whenever he would be in business meetings, he would put this mask on, pretending that everything was okay because that is what the CEO of any 500 company does. Trying to handle his issuesMichael had suffered for too long, so he decided to find a middle ground with his wife and partner. He signed a marital dissolution...

This episode is all about beverages - from judging fine wine to the infamous holiday punch bowl. The Shameless Chef was no “label snob,” Michael Davenport preaches the importance of judging a wine (and any food or beverage) according to one’s palate, not prejudices. He supports breaking rules like “white with fowl and red with meat,” but gives his own suggestions for storing and sipping wine. While Michael warns against the dangers of punch bowls, there are a few he sings the praises for. Michael James Scott is an actor and singer who originated the role of Genie in the Australian production of Disney's musical Aladdin, which opened in Sydney in August 2016. He received a Helpmann Award in 2017 for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for his work in this production. Michael reprised his role as the Genie on the North American tour, The West End, and most recently, Broadway (where he will return when theaters reopen). He also originated the role of The Minstrel on Broadway in Something Rotten!, as well as Dr. Gostwana in the original Broadway company of The Book of Mormon. Other Broadway credits include Mamma Mia, Tarzan, All Shook Up, The Pirate Queen, Elf, and Hair. Off-Broadway, he co-starred in Here’s to the Public! opposite Donna McKechnie and was also part of the concert cast of Jerry Springer: The Opera at Carnegie Hall. Michael can be seen in the new Showtime TV series Black Monday, and recently released his first studio album, A Fierce Christmas, available now on all music platforms. Michael was born in Baltimore, MD, but moved to Orlando, FL with his family when he was five years old. As a child he “just wanted to sing and dance” no matter where he was - the grocery store, the doctors office, etc, and according to his mom, Michael sang before he spoke. Recognizing his creative energy and talent, one of Michael’s elementary school teachers helped guide him towards the world of auditioning for TV and commercials, and participating in children's singing groups, and he “was hooked”. Michael later earned his BFA from The Conservatory of Theatre Arts program at Webster University in St. Louis, MO; and while in college, he went on to be the standby for Ben Vereen on the international tour of Fosse. While Michael might now be well known for his role as the Genie, in our conversation he admits that the role was never even on his radar. He opens up about the preconceived notions that came along with the role, the pressure - and shares that once the creative team behind Aladdin gave him permission to just be himself, he was able to bring his inner singing and dancing child from youth onto the stage with him. Michael also talks to us about the inspiration behind his brand new debut studio album, A Fierce Christmas, which is out now. Citing the current pandemic, as well as the “racial awakening” in the country, Michael says of his album, “this was my protest… I’m gonna protest with joy.” In this episode, we talk about: The year 2020 being the year of the “pivot” The impact of the theater community on society as a whole Having parents who just said “yes” The inspiration behind and production of his album, A Fierce Christmas His “Ah ha” moment while playing the Genie The advice Ben Vereen once gave him Connect with MJS: Get his album and visit him online: https://www.michaeljamesscott.com/ Twitter: @iammjscott Instagram: @iammjscott Connect with The Theatre Podcast: Support us on Patreon: Patreon.com/TheTheatrePodcast Twitter & Instagram: @theatre_podcast Facebook.com/OfficialTheatrePodcast TheTheatrePodcast.com Alan's personal Instagram: @alanseales Email me at feedback@thetheatrepodcast.com. The trio looks to where the trail of The Burn investigation is heading and what awaits this crew for the rest of the season.
Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks to Michael Malice about his election predictions, the silver lining of the end of the progressive era, and why he moved from Patreon to Locals.com. Michael gives his unique 2020 election prediction in the Biden vs. Trump contest. While Michael realizes that most people think the world is collapsing into chaos, he sees this as simply the reaction of elites to the century-long monopoly of progressive ideology coming to an end. Michael also explains why he doesn’t think the era of big tech is over and why social media giants like Twitter and Facebook will be around for some time. Despite this, he has moved his community from Patreon to Locals to avoid any potential content creator censorship. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Michael Brown is the CEO of nDash, a company that provides content creation SaaS to some of the leading agencies and brands. Before establishing nDash, Michael was a freelance writer, sports, and news reporter. He also had a stint working with crowdsourcing SaaS companies. These tasks shaped his passion and understanding of content creation, especially written content. Listen to Michael as he shares his journey with Geordie Wadman. What You Will Learn Michael’s journey as a writer, reporter, and freelance content creator How Michael started nDash How Michael charges for his services How Michael sources for writers and how he pays them Challenges that Michael and his team faced when transitioning to SaaS How do Michael and his team use the platform? When did Michael establish the agency, and when did he launch it online? Importance of a landing page when it comes to reaching your target audience How does Michael vet his writers? How long did Michael and his team take to build their MVP, and what did it involve? Why You need an in-house technical advisor What was the revenue situation after the agency was launched? Why Michael and his team recently introduced a managed services plan Importance of having an SEO mentor How has Michael’s keyword strategy affected traffic to the platform? How to optimize conversions In this Episode Crowdsourcing allows you to choose the ideal result from a pool of talents. By using this service, you can be sure of receiving results way faster than you would with conventional methods. Crowdsourcing enhances both the creative process and boosts productivity. While Michael was working for Crowdsourcing SaaS companies, he saw a chance to apply Crowdsourcing differently. It is this idea that pushed him into starting nDash with his main goal being to provide high-quality writers. Michael was also committed to improving the quality of freelancing platforms. According to Michael, their main customers are market leaders and market decision-makers. Michael tells Geordie that when he started nDash it was just him handling the freelancing work and a few core clients. The agency would later evolve to accommodate around ten in-house writers. Then, they neither had a platform nor software. Michael used funds from the revenue and profit they made from the agency to create a platform. He mentions that for the initial two years, they were running the agency on the side, but their customers noticed it the most. However, on the back end, Michael and his team were developing a platform that would help them scale. Michael opines that the agency started making a profit right away. He tells Geordie that the agency had to be profitable, especially seeing that they had no funds in the bank. What’s more, Michael says he noticed that many bootstrapped companies started this way. Listen to Michael as he shares how he sources for his writers, how he pays them, and the strategies he uses to charge for his services. Transitioning from SaaS, as Michael says was not easy. He mentions one good thing that happened during the MVP phase. You will need to listen to the podcast to figure it out. During the agency years, Michael says he worked with different writers who played a role in launching the community part of the platform. Michael tells Geordie that at some point, they realized their MVP was overly advanced. It comprised many things that were not necessary. Listen as he shares more information about the MVP process and the challenges they faced down the line. Michael explains that the journey from zero to 30,000 did not happen during the first month. It took them a lot of effort to reach there, and he explains it all in detail in this podcast. Michael also talks about the managed service plan and upselling. Has the current COVID-19 pandemic affected the performance of the platform? Yes. Michael says that their sales have been fluctuating as a result of the Pandemic. He is happy that they have not seen any drop-offs yet. Michael explains the SEO strategies they use to promote the platform in a bid to increase their reach. He also highlights that while he does not follow any SEO mentor religiously, he is always striving to learn something new. Michael is quick to mention that his keyword strategy has triggered an increase in traffic to the platform. Has the platform evolved? Michael says while he does not have the exact numbers, he is sure that his traffic has increased tremendously since they first started. Further, he shares some critical conversion tips that can help your business grow. Resources nDash.com Michael Brown LinkedIn

What everyone has been waiting for — Vegas is back for business. We sent out an advanced scout in the form of podcast host Michael and this episode; we dive into what you can expect from Vegas now that it’s reopened. Based on his nine-day trip, Michael talks about why he had a superb time in Vegas but that some peculiarities might take getting used to. Not being allowed to high-five the players at craps is just one of them. A more significant challenge for Michael was the lack of housekeeping at Caesars which was part of the reason that he moved over to Wynn Las Vegas later in his stay. As Michael details his trip, the focus of the conversation shifts to a comparison between Caesars Palace Las Vegas and Wynn Las Vegas and their vastly different approaches to their service and health policies. While Michael didn’t enjoy Caesars’ limited offerings, he shares how impressed he was with Wynn Las Vegas. From their “virtual” minibar to their turndown service, Michael explains the elegant and logical ways that Wynn provides services while maintaining guest and staff safety. After talking about how luxurious Vegas fine dining feels — with reduced capacity, you get so much of the restaurant to yourself — Michael discusses why Caesars may have gotten things so wrong. Often where you stay anchors your Vegas experience. This week’s conversation is with Michael Bennett, a defensive end in the National Football League.Michael signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2009 and was an instrumental member of the 2013 team that won the Super Bowl. He's also a 3x Pro-Bowler.While Michael’s craft is football, there is so much more to Michael the human being. He’s an advocate for social justice and after the events of the last week and the ongoing protests, I wanted to have him on the podcast to more than anything else just … listen.Michael’s words are significant. He has much to share. But what I found even more powerful than his words was his tone.He doesn’t once raise his voice, he doesn’t blame others, yet you can hear the pain in his voice. You can hear the yearning for change; for a different America. We discuss the systemic issues that make everyday life difficult for African-Americans and what each of us can do to make a positive impact going forward. This is an incredibly difficult, yet important time for our country.I recognize that change requires action and solely talking about it will not suffice. At the same time, I hope that we can use this platform to continue to learn, to better understand, and to empathize with those who have felt silenced for so long.------Please support our partners! We're able to keep growing and creating content for YOU because of their support. This week we're joined by the exquisitely named Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum. The trio was founded after Michael C. Hall met Peter Yanowitz and Matt Katz-Bohen while starring in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Though they met on Broadway, the three musicians' paths were very different. Peter was a member of The Wallflowers in the band's earliest years, and has drummed for everyone from Yoko Ono to Billy Bragg and Wilco. Matt, meanwhile, has worked with and produced a variety of acts, and has spend the last decade-plus as a member of Blondie. While Michael may be best known for starring roles in Dexter and Six Feet Under, his musical pedigree is impressive as well, including Broadway spots in Chicago, Cabaret, and Lazarus, for which he worked closely with David Bowie. Named at the suggestion of Matt's young daughter, Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum just released their debut EP last week after two years of working out their psychedelic, gothic electrorock. I chatted with the trio to discuss touring with a Broadway production, their first times playing together, the origin of Matt's Jew-tah nickname, their first concerts, Michael's propensity for on-stage mishaps, and much more. Head here for more info on Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum. For more from Lior Phillips and This Must Be the Gig, follow along on Instagram or Twitter, or like the show page on Facebook. In the 17th podcast episode, I interview Life Master Michael Aigner, who resides in the Bay Area. Some of his chess highlights include tying for second place in the U.S Open in 2006 and playing in the U.S Chess Championship in 2007. Thanks to his love for the birds opening, he has the nick name "fpawn." I first met Michael when we played in the 2009 Chicago Open. While Michael was born with quadrilateral phocomelia, four short limbs and has been wheel-chair bound his whole life, that hasn't stopped him from reaching for the stars, getting a MS in Biomedical Engineering at Stanford and becoming a Life Master. In this interview, we discuss his background, chess pedagogy insights, the importance of getting outside one's comfort zone, ways to motivate more disabled players to participate in tournaments and more.
Teenage dating! What a wild ride! As teenagers Michael and Rebecca had some pretty valuable life lessons. Today we're sharing our biggest take aways from dating around to many different people and also having steady relationships! Becca dated a lot of guys and found one she really liked! They dated for 2 years but never kissed! While Michael dated only 1 girl but it was for a couple years as well. But they didn't get along very well for the majority of their courtship. But despite their constant arguing and fighting they really liked each other a lot! Would we do it again? Maybe to learn these lessons. But might do some things differently. On our channel The Beach House, we used to do vlogs about our lives. Do you ever find yourself wondering why you feel like a square peg forced into a round hole when it comes to following art “Rules?” Is there something wrong with you, the system, gatekeepers, or all the above? I was thrilled to sit down and discuss this topic and much more with my friend, Michael McCaffrey. In our conversation, we also touch on his work inspired by his father, the difference between figurative and abstract work, why putting in time matters, and so much more. I can’t wait for you to learn from Michael’s fascinating perceptive and expertise! Follow the “Rules” or forge your own path? Are you a rule follower or a rule breaker? Most people who see that question will automatically know which category they fall in. Have you always been on one side of that question, or have you shifted over time? For Michael McCaffrey - permission to break from certain art “Rules” evolved. Practically, Michael had to change is approach to painting his father because he simply wouldn’t sit still for portraits. Even when he took photos of his father and brought them to the canvas for a reference point - Michael still had to give himself permission to push the boundaries and create his own set of “Rules.” A unique take on the familiar When I first visited Michael’s website, I was like a kid in a candy shop, seriously! Taking a look around at all the different subjects and perspectives he paints is truly inspiring. Most notably, I wanted to hone in on Michael’s work with his father. Michael and I both have parents in their 80’s, and I was curious to hear how Michael’s experience has been spending time and incorporating his father into his artwork. As he observed his father in his home of nearly 40 years, Michael started to notice how his father would pay particular interest and care to one part of his home while neglecting other parts for years. Make sure to check out the images of Michael’s work located at the end of this post - I know you’ll find it as fascinating as I did! Putting in the time If you’ve been around the Savvy Painter community for very long, you know that one of the big mantras that we often hear from seasoned artists like Michael is to put in the time at your canvas. It’s tempting to succumb to apathy or indifference, but the truth is, nothing can get you out of a funk quite like time in your studio. It’s also in the studio where you begin to refine and hone your skills as an artist - you can’t microwave skill and success. Think of your time growing and developing as an artist like slow cooking a good meal - you have to give time for those flavors to work together! Tearing it down and building it up again While Michael is quick to point out the “Rules” that don’t work for him as an artist - he’s also quick to explain that tearing down inevitably leads to building something in its place. Facing the institutional challenges and personal struggles of life as an artist isn’t easy, but don’t forget that there is a community of peers who can help spur you along. Michael found that through the process of tearing down rules, ideas, or even his own artwork, there was a kind of freedom to reinvent and breath new life into his artwork. What do you think of Michael’s perspective? Outline of This Episode [0:30] I introduce my guest, Michael McCaffrey. [3:00] Michael describes his work. [6:40] Working from photographs and memories. When Michael Sidgmore thinks about investing, he thinks about making the biggest impact possible in people’s lives. His passion for economic development and financial inclusion has led him to build a career as a fintech investor and entrepreneur focused on financial infrastructure, wealth management, and financial inclusion. Today, he is a Partner and cofounder of Broadhaven Ventures, a Silicon Valley based fintech venture capital firm that has invested in 5 startups in Latin America. Broadhaven Ventures invests globally in early-stage fintech startups but largely focuses on Latin America and the US. The fund was built out of a market leading fintech investment bank called Broadhaven Capital Partners to start to invest directly into some of the best companies they were seeing on the investment banking side of the business. In this episode, I sit down with Michael in Mexico City to talk about his background in soccer, then in tech banking, and how an NGO inspired him to kickstart his investing career. We discuss what led him to do venture capital in Latin America, and also cover some of the biggest trends in Latin American fintechs and how these compare to Asia and the US. “It was fascinating to see a non profit be run like a business” While Michael studied International Relations at the LSE, he worked at Room to Read, a non-profit that focuses on improving literacy and gender equality in education in the developing world. He was not only amazed at how they built economic development in different countries, but also by the business side of the organization. Listen to this episode of Crossing Borders to learn more about how Michael realized he could build companies with positive financial return that could also create a huge social impact in people’s lives. Thinking about Investing in a cash-based economy Michael stresses the importance of spending time in an ecosystem in order to fully understand it. When he started investing in Latin America, he would come down once a quarter for meetings and immerse himself in the environment. There are a number of cultural differences in the way that people think about their financial lives in Latin America that need to be understood before investing, such as the heavy dependance on cash or the lack of trust in banks. Learn more about the different ways in which people think about money in LatAm in this episode of Crossing Borders. The Rise of the Stealth Fintechs According to Michael, an interesting theme in LatAm and Asia is that non fintechs are becoming fintechs. Several high frequency usage models like Rappi, Grow, and Kovi are getting into financial services by releasing their own payments platforms like Rappipay or Grin wallet. Michael considers these new players will be a defining feature in LatAm’s future fintech ecosystem. Listen to this episode to find out what are the current trends in LatAm’s fintech ecosystem. Hello, Welcome to Book Club Reporter - Book Review Podcast This is Episode 3, dated September 1, 2019. And I’m your host, Laura Jay. Today I am bringing you my book club reporter book review of All the Lovely Pieces written by author, J.M. Winchester (and you may already be familiar with this author, as she also writes romance novels as Jennifer Snow). But, All the Lovely pieces is not a ‘happy-ever-after” romance novel. All the Lovely Pieces is a chilling and an unputdownable, psychological thriller suspense novel. All the Lovely Pieces is the intensely gripping story of Drew Baker. Drew has been badly beaten by her husband, Adam. And that fateful night was not the first time. As it turns out, Adam is a serial abuser and his form of abuse knows no bounds. But Adam is also a powerful billionaire business man. I would go so far to say that Adam “takes no prisoners,” but, actually, that wouldn’t be true. In fact, Adam is holding his pregnant wife, Drew, prisoner at home. With no explanation, Adam seizes the newborn baby boy from Drew, as soon as she gives birth to him. He takes the baby down the hall and places him in the nanny’s arms. The nanny, Catherine, understands that Adam expects her to take care of the baby, because according to Adam, Drew is mentally disturbed. And that is exactly what Adam tells everyone who comes into or around his palatial home. As a powerful billionaire, it seems that no one questions his words. Drew is shocked that her baby was taken from her. Desolate and bewildered, Drew remains a prisoner locked in her room. There are no words to describe the desperation and emotional state of this battered, imprisoned mother who isn't allowed to bond with her baby. Nearly anything and everything Drew says to Adam earns her another battering. Finally, when an opportunity presents itself, Drew seizes the moment and escapes with her baby. But her escape isn't pretty...and it isn't without violence. Drew's memory of how she escaped on that frantic day is blurry. But, now Drew is on the run as not just as a kidnapper but as a murderer too. And although her recollection of that struggle over her baby is as clear as mud, Drew believes she may well have committed murder during her escape. With the belief that Adam will never stop searching for her and his son, Drew is living life on the run with her son Michael. She moves them frequently, afraid to stay anywhere for too long. After nine years of running, Drew moves them to the small town of Liberty. I couldn’t help wondering if the town, Liberty, might hold a more positive future for Drew and Michael. And things do start out pretty well for them. Drew finds herself almost ready to believe that she and Michael actually have friends, yet she continues to live her life consumed with fear. Drew is determined that once she accomplishes what she believes she needs to do in Liberty, she and Michael will once again move on. It becomes crystal clear that Drew lives an anxiety-filled life with little hope for a better future. All the Lovely Pieces is told from the viewpoints of Drew, Michael and Catherine (the nanny). And we begin to put the pieces of the past together mostly through the viewpoints of Drew and Catherine. While Michael's viewpoint contributions are brief, we learn enough to be concerned for him. Drew has kept all the terrible details of the past from Michael. She told him his father passed away. But as Michael gets older, he has more questions in his mind about why they are on the run. And he wants to know more about his father. All the Lovely Pieces propels us through the story on an intense, unstoppable and emotional rollercoaster ride. It’s impossible to actually want to put down this all-consuming story. But, be ready as this story does involve the serious subject matter of physical and emotional abuse. I know there are plenty of women who hav

OMG, it’s EPISODE #50!!!! How crazy is that?? Today we have the founders of BusyBeauty on the pod — Jamie Steenbakkers & Michael Leahy. Alison (their marketing manager) also tagged along which made this recording a record for how many people participated! BusyBeauty is a wonderful brand for women on the go (which makes so much sense for our listeners!). They created a waterless shave gel first and have since expanded their line to include wipes and showerless shampoo. Jamie is a beauty protege — the next generation inventor, the eye for design, the creator and the visionary. While Michael is a hustler — an expert at supply chain optimization, growth hacker, people, and cash flow manager. The team is based locally in Boston, and we get into some great topics like how to manage your finances starting out as an entrepreneur, their biggest struggles, and their biggest successes. Creating an intentional family culture requires some independent thinking. When I started out on this journey, I had no idea that God was guiding me to start a movement for my family and my audience that would lead me toward true freedom. What does success really look like? What does it truly mean? Is failure really the end? Perhaps success and failure are really just a narrative that is keeping us reluctant to make progress and be proactive agents of our lives. Where does this fear of failure and pressure to perform come from? While Michael and I have been struggling all these years to find our path, and provide for our family, we were on a train that had promised us security. We discovered too late in the journey that this train was going to drop us off in the desert and leave us out to dry. We felt like failures. Society told us we were losers, ashamed, afraid, anxious, broke. We chose the wrong path, the wrong major, the wrong career. Our peers were already thriving and getting good jobs. They seemed so successful. How did we go so wrong? Since starting this journey as a homeschool parent, and learning about entrepreneurship, I am learning that there are other options besides this scripted path. I've learned that success looks very different that I expected. You know, the path that says we should go to school, follow you passion but get a marketable degree, and get good grades. You're supposed to find that job that will allow you to climb the corporate ladder and make a secure living. Invest in your 401K and pinch your pennies! To be clear, there is nothing wrong with going to school, and being responsible with your money. I whole-heartedly support going to school if you are going for the right reasons, and have a vision mapped out beyond the degree. Education is a means to an end, not the end itself. We are not entitled to a secure job just because you have a degree. The degree you get in college only matters if you have a plan. When Michael and I finished our degrees, the only plan we had was the conveyor belt pushing us along to complete the next thing. But, for us, the next thing never arrived. We worked for it. We prayed for it. It just didn't happen. Our living expenses kept climbing, all while we deprived ourselves of basic luxuries. In the seven years Michael has worked at his commission-based job, he has taken one vacation. Whenever we visited our parents, he had to take his computer so he could work on his projects. We couldn't afford for him to take breaks because then he wouldn't get paid. I knew I needed to start doing something to help. Our financial defense was failing even though I've read the budgeting books and the ones about being frugal, etc. It's not possible when you've eliminated just about every luxury from your budget and still don't have enough income. I needed to start working on my financial offense. I needed to figure out how to supplement our income. I knew people were making money online somehow. My journey began with considering ways people were making money online. I needed to be home with my kids so I couldn't go out and get a job. Some friends were selling on Etsy or Amazon. Others were selling products through an MLM, which isn't so bad, but I didn't have time for that. Plus, I have a hard time getting behind the products. I have to really believe in it to support it. I thought about doing voice over, which is still something I dream of doing. I learned that people were making money through social media somehow, and that you could monetize a podcast. I wanted to know how! Then, I got the inspiration to start my show. I knew I needed to explore how families are successful. Mine was fairly successful because we had our values in place, but we were so unhappy. Beyond unhappy. We were depressed. I didn't understand how we'd gone so wrong. How was I supposed to raise successful kids when we were struggling so bad? Join the Family Success Toolkit Free Membership...

“Balance is overrated. Forget about being balanced and work on being present.”Dr. Michael GervaisWhat are the consistent behavioral themes across the spectrum of high performing athletes, entrepreneurs, artists, and change makers? Is there a common thread connecting those who change how we understand how the world works?Dr. Michael Gervais has devoted his life to answering these questions.A high performance psychologist working in the trenches of high-stakes environments, Michael lives and breathes in that special place where there is no luxury for mistakes, hesitation, or failure to respond. His clientele include the elite of the elite – the world's most prolific Olympic, professional, and extreme athletes. MVPs in every major sport. High level military. Internationally acclaimed artists and musicians. And Fortune 100 CEO’s.You might recall Dr. Gervais as the guy Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll credits as integral to their 2014 Super Bowl win. The meditation, mindfulness and other crucial team building techniques Michael helped foster and instill into the fabric of that organization paved the team’s path towards incredible success. You might also remember that Felix Baumgartner’s now-infamous Red Bull Stratos jump from an altitude of 128,000 feet almost never was simply because Felix simply could not overcome the high level of anxiety and claustrophobia he experienced every time he donned the jump suit. It was Dr. Gervais who helped Baumagartner resolve the issue and get Stratos back on track. No Gervais, no history making jump.Michael is also the man behind skydiver Luke Aikins, who astonished the world by becoming the first to jump from a plane at 25,000 feet without a parachute or wingsuit and live to tell the story.A published, peer-reviewed author and recognized speaker on optimal human performance, Michael has been featured by CNN, The Wall Street Journal, ESPN, NBC, NFL Network, Red Bull TV, Extra, The Huffington Post, Outside Magazine. This is a long way of saying that Dr. Gervais is the man. While Michael's roster includes the world’s most elite, he is about so much more than high performance athletes.Everyone is required to perform daily. We all navigate our own high stakes environments. And everybody can benefit with the right mindset training. Towards this end, Michael committed to scaling the principles that drive high performance for the betterment of all. He shares his wisdom and experience each week on his Finding Mastery podcast (subscribe immediately) and works intimately with organizations both big and small through Compete To Create, the consulting firm he co-founded with Coach Carroll.A man I consider friend and mentor, Michael is one of my very favorite people. What actually happens is this: For a long time, 18-year old Devin Holloway ignored his inner urges to form a relationship with God because of the holy-roller example his father, Michael, set before him. But after forming a new friendship with Nate and the gorgeous McKenna, Devin embarks on a spiritual journey, only to then witness his father in an adulterous situation. Meanwhile, Devin’s mother, Ranya, is having horrifying nightmares that dig up the past she has kept hidden from everyone in the family. Only Ranya’s mother knows the details of Ranya’s past, and cautions her to divulge the secret before it tears her apart. On the night that Michael and Ranya each plan to confess their secrets to one another, Michael goes first, but fearful Ranya remains quiet. Now the turmoil really begins. Even with love, prayer, and support of family and friends, Devin struggles to forgive and honor his father, while the entire Holloway family strives to regain wholeness and harmony. This book is for fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, teenagers and adults. Every member of the family is striving to live lives that honor God, in spite of their faults and shortcomings. While Michael and Ranya fight for reconciliation of their marriage, they’ve each got new issues to deal with—Ranya, with the entrance of Jordan, whom she has kept hidden from her family for over 20 years—and Michael, with a past that creeps up to disturb the peace he is working so hard to maintain. Meanwhile, college freshman Devin continues in his new spiritual journey and his relationship with McKenna, but struggles with insurmountable obstacles that cause him to reach his breaking point. When extreme demands jeopardize the unity of the family, the Holloways must respond with radical actions to protect themselves from further destruction. There is no dragging through the sludge of a boring backstory with this book; the plot is well-paced throughout. But most importantly we are taught several spiritual life lessons, mini sermonettes acted out as if on the stage of life. This book is for everyone who needs to know that our God forgives. Easy Bean Farm is owned and managed by Michael Jacobs, his wife Malena Arner Handeen, daughter Hazel (13), and son Arlo (10). He began managine the 120 acres of prairie, grove, pasture and cropland in the fall of 1996 after working as a furniture maker in St. Paul. In their first two seasons they sold produce mainly through farmers’ markets with the goal of learning enough about growing food to begin selling produce to restaurants, food co-ops, and through their (now) 280 member C.S.A. While Michael spends most of his time working in the fields, Minnesota’s cold winters also provide him with time away from the soil to explore other areas of interest. When not cutting firewood and restoring his old house, he can often be found in his woodshop designing and building custom made furniture and cabinets. Sometimes, if you’re sneaky, you can even catch him writing or baking bagels. “If you’re someone who likes to make change, the number of people in a rural community that you have to convince is very small.” [13:00] “Our community can’t survive if we keep consolidating farmland.” [17:50] —Michael Jacobs Greenhorns Radio
