A growing population also means a growing trash problem - just looking at Malaysia's stats, we reportedly generated over 38 thousand metric tonnes of solid waste per day in 2021 (1.17 kg/capita/day). Of which, 82.5 percent is disposed of in landfills. Experts have warned that there will be no more land left in Malaysia by 2050 if nothing is done to reduce waste. Some have said the solution lies in waste incineration - burning refuse in incinerators to make electricity, which will also supposedly help to reduce carbon emissions from waste treatment in the future. But is this truly the answer? We discuss the environmental and health impacts of waste incineration with Mageswari Sangaralingam (Senior Research Officer, Consumers' Association of Penang and Sahabat Alam Malaysia, Khor Sue Yee (Co-Founder and Director, Zero Waste Malaysia) and Tasha Sabapathy (Programme Outreach and Communications Executive).Image Credit: ShutterstockSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Was macht Airbus mit Palantir? Jan Hiesserich, Strategy- and Communications-Executive von Palantir, erläutert im F.A.Z.

Maleic hydrazide is a growth regulator that has been on the market for many years. The true value of it is now becoming apparent, with the demise of chlorpropham (CIPC). Previously it was used mainly for volunteer control. Nowadays it is especially important in storage. Here it can provide sprout control as a standalone product, or as a cost-saving foundation for other, post-harvest treatments. Maleic hydrazide is a foliar treatment that needs to be translocated to the tubers. Successful treatments are therefore dependent on plant, weather and application conditions.  This podcast talks about some of those conditions and introduces a webinar on maleic hydrazide, that will take place on June 15th.  Speakers: Adrian Briddon - Crop Storage Senior Scientist at Sutton Bridge Andrew Webster - Potato grower Learn more about storage: https://ahdb.org.uk/storage-hub  Sign-up for the storage webinar: https://ahdb.org.uk/events/maleic-hydrazide-a-foundation-for-potato-storage Feedback survey: We'd love to know what you think of our podcasts.
