Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Hugo Morley, grandson of  actor Robert Morley. Depending on what age you are and what country you grew up in, you might know Robert Morley for different things. If you are an American, you know him from his stint as the spokesman for British Airways or possibly the film Who Is Killing The Great Chef's of Europe with George Segal and Jacqueline Bisset. It was fascinating to find out from Hugo, that Robert actually had a lot of leeway in the BA commercials direction. But if you grew up in England or Australia, you might know Robert Morley from the stage where he performed in about 100 films and starred in/wrote many plays. His career spanned more than sixty years and in fact, his first film role garnered an Academy Award nomination in 1939 as King Louis XVI in Marie Antoinette, starring Norma Shearer and Tyrone Power. That's one hell of a debut. Hugo was open with us and told us about (free) trips he took with his grandfather and family thanks to British Airways, of meals he shared with him and time spent in Robert Morley's back garden. There was swimming and cigars….for Robert, not Hugo. We also learn about Hugo's theater critic/actor father, Sheridan Morley who was quite well known in England. We learn about his influence on the musical Les Miserables, how an interview with Carol Channing led to Hugo becoming her Godmother and how Yul Brenner played a part in their relationship. Along the way we talk about everyone from Eli Wallach to David Tomlinson, Griff Rhys Jones, to Joanna Lumley and more. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast and everyone has a story.

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to James Tomlinson, son of actor David Tomlinson. James was incredibly gracious with his time and patient with the lag of an international podcast recording and really spent some time talking to us about the big, and small stuff, about growing up the son of Mary Poppins employer, Mr. Banks. Of course we talk about the Disney films David Tomlinson was known for – the aforementioned Mary Poppins, The Love Bug and Bedknobs and Broomsticks but we also discuss his massive career prior to Walt & company on the British stage and screen. We hear about films like Warning for Warriors, Miranda and Up the Creek to name a few. We also hear about how a role in a light comedy on the London stage led him to his most famous character on the big screen. James was also incredibly open as we discuss the tragedies his father endured and the very awkward family life that his father dealt him. We also discussed his dad's time as a flight instructor for the RAF in WWII as well of that of his two brothers. Plus we hear about David's own father who lived a very conventional life. I mean lives. I mean, more than one. We get into that shocking story and his grandfather's backstory of WWI that is hard to believe. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story. And this one, you won't forget.

What happens when one man, a criminal mastermind, who is desperate for immortality and will stop at nothing to achieve it, comes up against his greatest foe - a weary pensioner with a lawnmower fixation? As if out of a Trap, this week actors & comedians Paul Litchfield & Jeremy Limb join Tyler to hem and haw and (occasionally) howl at Peter Sellers' final film, The Fiendish Plot of Dr Fu Manchu from 1980. Released two weeks posthumously, Sellers plays both the title role and that of Nayland Smith, a dogged detective who has foiled many a Fu Manchu scheme over the years and who is called out of retirement for one last job. Assisted by a cast which includes Helen Mirren, David Tomlinson and Sid Caesar, Sellers oftentimes cannot help coming across as tired and jaded and the parallels between his real life health problems and Fu Manchu's desperation to cling onto life are too obvious to go unobserved. Jeremy and Paul have been fascinated by this film for many years and have a lot to say about it - Jeremy in particular delivers an impassioned argument in its defence! Murali reported on an investment meeting in New Delhi that brought together several African leaders to discuss boosting commercial ties between India and African countries. Krishnan quoted India's Foreign minister – Subrahmanyam Jaishankar – who said that India was among the leading countries that have invested on the African continent. As you are surely aware, China also invests heavily on the African continent. However, the investment policies are quite different – and that was your question: what exactly is the difference between China's investment policy on the continent, and India's? The answer is: As Murali wrote: “Unlike China which has concentrated on creating infrastructure and extracting natural resources, India through its investments, has focused on its core competencies of human resources development, information technology, maritime security, education and health care … A senior diplomat from Nigeria told RFI: ‘Indian project construction and financing in Africa is aimed at facilitating local participation and development. Indian companies rely more on African talent and do capacity building of the local population.'” In addition to the quiz question, there was the Bonus Question: What is your dream day off from school or work?  The winners are: RFI Listeners Club member Kanwar Sandhu from British Columbia in Canada, who is also the winner of this week's Bonus Question; Golam Mahina, a member of the Shetu RFI Listeners Club in Naogaon, Bangladesh, and RFI English listeners Saruar Jahan Mohsin from Kishorganj, Bangladesh; Kalyani Basak, and Karuna Kanta Pal, both from West Bengal, India. Congratulations winners! Here's the music you heard on this week's program: “You've Changed” by Carl Fischer, arranged by Laurent de Wilde and performed by the Laurent de Wilde Quartet; “Let's Go Fly a Kite” from Mary Poppins by Richard and Robert Sherman, sung by David Tomlinson; “Raga Piloo” by Ravi Shankar, performed by the composer and Yehudi Menuhin; “The Flight of the Bumblebee” by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov; “The Cakewalk” from Children's Corner by Claude Debussy, performed by the composer, and “Angelus Novus”, written and performed by Hatis Noit.    Do you have a musical request? Send it to thesoundkitchen@rfi.fr  This week's question ... you have to listen to the show to participate. After you've listened to the show, refer to Sarah Elzas' article “Sheep farmers break the mould as French lose their taste for Roquefort cheese” and/or the Spotlight on France podcast # 80 to help you with the answer. Because you demanded it!! Disney's The Love Bug! This week on Fabulous Film and Friends we're following our discussion about the violent and gruesome Braveheart with the equally violent and twisted 1968 Disney gutbuster, The Love Bug and starring Dean Jones, Michelle Lee, Buddy Hackett, David Tomlinson and Sacramento's own Benson Fong.  I'm joined by my good friend Gordon Alex Robertson today on this Superbowl weekend who would only do the show if we discussed this film, one of his childhood favorites. Before we hit the pedal to the medal:The synopsis.  A deep, philosophical exploration of man's relationship to machine,  beating   Star Trek The Motion Picture to the punch by 10 years, The Love Bug tells the tale of Jim Douglas, a maverick race car driver on the cusp of middle age and relegated to demolition derbies who is given a second chance at life, love and happiness when he is randomly swindled into buying a living, thinking, self-driving 1963 VW Bug by the scheming Car Dealer cum throttle jockey Peter Thorndyke and his easy-on-the eyes sales assistant Carol Bennett. The scheme backfires for Thorndyke when Douglas and the VW, nicknamed Herbie  by Jim's loyal roommate Tennessee Steinmetz, starts winning decisive contests at major raceways.  Realizing the error of her ways and the duplicity of her horrible boss, Carol falls in with Jim and joins his team against Thorndyke who will stop at nothing to destroy Herbie. Is The Love Bug a forgettable late 60's Disney live action lark for kiddies? Or is it a more profound film than you'd expect?Find out!

Book Vs. Movie: Bedknobs and Broomsticks The Marty Norton Novels During WW2 Vs the 1971 Groovy Disney Film The Margos are closing out our “Month of Disney” with the 50th Anniversary of Bedknobs and Broomsticks a partly animated film that is based on the wonderful stories by Mary Norton. An English writer of children's books and was best known for the SciFi-Fantasy collection The Borrowers in the 1950s. For this story, she uses some supernatural elements to tell the tale of a trio of British kids during WW2 who are hiding out in the English countryside. They meet a local villager, Miss Price, who turns out to be an apprentice witch.  The stories appeared as The Magic Bed Knob; or How to Become a Witch in Ten Easy Lessons and Bonfires and Broomsticks which in 1957 became Bedknobs and Broomsticks. The property was sold to Disney and was developed for years in the wake of the Mary Poppins success of the early 1960s.  The movie takes place in 1940 where three kids (Carrie, Charlie, and Paul) are evacuated from London to live in Pepperidge Eye near the Dorset Coast at the start of the War. The Nazis are a big menace and Miss Price is studying witchcraft in order to fight them. With her magic spell, she creates a bed knob that can travel through space and time. In the movie, she is played by Angela Lansbury (a Book Vs Movie favorite!) and along with David Tomlinson (who has a tragic personal story!) they go on a weird and wonderful adventure that includes playing soccer with talking animals and invisible soldiers coming to their rescue to fight off the Germans.  This production was one of the last for the Sherman Brothers for Disney and features some of their classic catchy music and a dance sequence that is a progressive step forward (for 1971 Disney!)   So, between the original story and the animated movie--which did we prefer?  In this ep the Margos discuss: The backdrop of WW2 London and how it changed art created at that time How Fascism is explained in this story The main differences between the children's novels & film.  Starring: Angela Lansbury (Miss Price,) David Tomlinson (Mr. Browne,) Ian Weighill (Charlie Rawlins,) Cindy O'Callaghan (Carrie Rawlins,) Roy Snart (Paul Rawlins,) Roddy McDowell (Mr. Rowan Jelk,) Sam Jaffe (Bookman,) and Tessie O'Shea as Jessie Hobday.  Clips used: “The Beautiful Briny” Bedknobs and Broomsticks  trailer “Eglantine”  “Portobello Road”  “Substitutiary Locomotion” “A Step in the Right Direction”  Music by Richard M. This Weeks Community Question Is: CQ:  Who would be your choice to play a young Picard? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan James McAvoy Wants to be Picard If you could pick ANY actor to play young-Jean-Luc Picard, who would it be? David Tristan Birkin played a de-aged Picard in the TNG episode “Rascals” and Tom Hardy had a go at Picard's dastardly clone in the forgettable “Star Trek: Nemesis”.  Corey Stoll from “House of Cards” has the look and David Tennent of “Dr. Who” has the accent. BUT - according to one Picard-hopeful, HE is the only choice. Who would that be?  Young-Professor X portrayer, James McAvoy! Sitting down virtually with Late Night host Jimmy Fallon, James McAvoy responded to the question of whether or not he would consider playing a young Picard and later painted a picture with his words regarding his scent - and Sir Patrick Stewart's face. Have a look at the video below to see what we mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf1zYk8D8hc&start=179 “Lower Decks” Hypes for Release All aboard, the “Lower Decks” Hype-train is leaving the station! Star Trek's first animated series in 46 years is set to debut on August 6th, and the folks at CBS want the world to know about it. Last week, we got our first look at the trailer for the series - which we talked about in episode 469 of Priority One - and this week, we get four new screenshots - and a new recurring character announcement! On July 15th, three of the four new photos were released through fan sites like Trekmovie and Trekcore, and feature our scrappy heroes at work and at play. The fourth screenshot came on July 20th, with the exclusive Deadline announcement that “Black Monday's” Paul Scheer would play Lt. Commander Andy Billups, the chief engineer on the USS Cerritos. In the still, we see the chief engineer, a smiling middle-aged man with a mustache, poking away at an engineering console while speaking to Ensign Rutherford. In regards to Scheer, the actor-comedian isn't new to voiceover work, having done voices for Cartoon Network's “Adventure Time” and Netflix's decidedly-adult “Big Mouth”, as well as Fox's Seth McFarlane helmed “American Dad” among others. Star Trek: Discovery at Virtual Trek Con The cancellation or postponement of conventions in 2020 due to Covid-19 is a thing, but it has started a bit of a movement - the Virtual Con. This week starting on July 15, Deep Space Nine Star and 7th Rule Podcast host Cirroc Lofton spearheaded the free Virtual Trek Con - a five day “convention” that hosted stars and crew from across the Star Trek multiverse. On Sunday July 19th, Moderator Ryan Husk sat down with stars of “Star Trek: Discovery”, and though no big spoilers were dished, we did get a few interesting nuggets for the dipping. Husk was joined by Doug Jones, as well as Linus' David Benjamin Tomlinson, Siranna's Hannah Spear, and Dr. Pollard's Raven Dauda. In an exchange with David Tomlinson - who has played Klingons and Kelpians among others - Doug Jones revealed that everyone's favorite Saurian will be back for season 3. In speaking about Linus's eating habits, Tomlinson and Jones tease a little about Linus's screen time. Hannah Spear, who plays Saru's sister Siranna, MAY HAVE hinted that Siranna could return in another iteration of Star Trek - think Strange New Worlds or Section 31.  The panel is just under an hour, and really highlights the love all of the people involved with Discovery share for one another. You'll also get some insight into how Siranna's character was created, Tomlinson's love of prosthetics, and how Raven Dauda would love to be the Chief Medical Officer of Discovery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kLwF1sHyKQ Trek Stars Outside of Trek It's been a while since we've had some new Star Trek. We're not complaining - really - but the final episode of Picard aired back in March and since then - nothing. Well this week saw a bunch of news cross our feed about Star Trek stars in other upcoming roles or mediums, so we figured we'd share them with you now so that you have them for, you know, the next five month drought. A new documentary featuring Nichelle Nichols' role in NASA's recruiting program - which focus on women and people of color - has struck a distribution deal with Shout! Studios. The film, titled “Woman in Motion”, will feature interviews with friends, colleagues, experts, and Star Trek stars. It's expected to release in 2021. If you're itching for something this moment, and are in the mood for a bit of a downer, HBO's documentary Showbiz Kids is out now - with stories from Wesley Crusher himself, Wil Wheaton. According to HBO's website description ”Showbiz Kids offers an unvarnished look at the high-risk, high-reward business of working as a child actor in the entertainment industry. Written and directed by former child actor Alex Winter (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, The Panama Papers), the film chronicles the shared experiences of prominent former child stars and the personal and professional price of fame and failure on a child.” Looking for something a little lighter and don't mind waiting about a week? The long-awaited “Unbelievable!!!!!” is set for it's streaming release on August 1st. The Sci-Fi comedy sports a “Team America” style marionette, Snoop Dogg - and over FORTY Star Trek alumni! To go along with the release,  there will be events all day - we'll post a link in the show notes if you want to trek them out. And finally, a little casting news, Star Trek's Kelvin Spock - Zachary Quinto - has been cast in the Amazon Prime animated series “Invincible”. Based on the graphical novel of the same name, the story follows the son of Earth's greatest Superhero. As the young man begins to manifest powers, he starts his own adventures, to varying degrees of success. Quinto will play a superhero named Robot, an ally to the protagonist Mark Grayson. “Invincible” is from the same author that wrote “The Walking Dead” graphic novels, and the series is set for release at the end of 2020. So there you have it. Bookmark our show notes so you don't forget! The Continuing Mission, With Terms & Conditions By now Star Trek Timelines players have no doubt been confronted with Some Kind of In-Game Pop-up Anomaly, asking them to accept publisher Tilting Point's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. On July 17 Wicked Realms announced the switch from former owner Disruptor Beam's terms, noting that players would have to accept the terms to continue playing. The post acknowledges recent concerns with the game's Offer Wall feature, and a review of what advertising partner ironSource's SDK collects when the game is launched on Android (remember, the Offer Wall is indefinitely gone from iOS). However, any offers you-the-player accept via the Offer Wall “will take place outside of the game and outside the control of Tilting Point or ironSource, and you may be requested to share additional information on a voluntary basis to the third party managing that offer, and such information will be subject to that third party's privacy policy”. This week on Episode 470 of Priority One --- We ‘Trek Out’ what James McAvoy plans to do with his scent, Lower Deck’s announcements, Discovery Discoveries, and what Star Trek-adjacent projects to keep an eye out for - today and in the future! In Star Trek gaming, we share with you which game developers are taking actions for a more equitable future. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Question Is: CQ:  Who would be your choice to play a young Picard? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan James McAvoy Wants to be Picard If you could pick ANY actor to play young-Jean-Luc Picard, who would it be? David Tristan Birkin played a de-aged Picard in the TNG episode “Rascals” and Tom Hardy had a go at Picard’s dastardly clone in the forgettable “Star Trek: Nemesis”.  Corey Stoll from “House of Cards” has the look and David Tennent of “Dr. Who” has the accent. BUT - according to one Picard-hopeful, HE is the only choice. Who would that be?  Young-Professor X portrayer, James McAvoy! Sitting down virtually with Late Night host Jimmy Fallon, James McAvoy responded to the question of whether or not he would consider playing a young Picard and later painted a picture with his words regarding his scent - and Sir Patrick Stewart’s face. Have a look at the video below to see what we mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf1zYk8D8hc&start=179 “Lower Decks” Hypes for Release All aboard, the “Lower Decks” Hype-train is leaving the station! Star Trek’s first animated series in 46 years is set to debut on August 6th, and the folks at CBS want the world to know about it. The fourth screenshot came on July 20th, with the exclusive Deadline announcement that “Black Monday’s” Paul Scheer would play Lt. Commander Andy Billups, the chief engineer on the USS Cerritos. In the still, we see the chief engineer, a smiling middle-aged man with a mustache, poking away at an engineering console while speaking to Ensign Rutherford. In regards to Scheer, the actor-comedian isn’t new to voiceover work, having done voices for Cartoon Network’s “Adventure Time” and Netflix’s decidedly-adult “Big Mouth”, as well as Fox’s Seth McFarlane helmed “American Dad” among others. Husk was joined by Doug Jones, as well as Linus’ David Benjamin Tomlinson, Siranna’s Hannah Spear, and Dr. Pollard’s Raven Dauda. In an exchange with David Tomlinson - who has played Klingons and Kelpians among others - Doug Jones revealed that everyone’s favorite Saurian will be back for season 3. In speaking about Linus’s eating habits, Tomlinson and Jones tease a little about Linus’s screen time. Hannah Spear, who plays Saru’s sister Siranna, MAY HAVE hinted that Siranna could return in another iteration of Star Trek - think Strange New Worlds or Section 31.  The panel is just under an hour, and really highlights the love all of the people involved with Discovery share for one another. You’ll also get some insight into how Siranna’s character was created, Tomlinson’s love of prosthetics, and how Raven Dauda would love to be the Chief Medical Officer of Discovery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kLwF1sHyKQ Trek Stars Outside of Trek It’s been a while since we’ve had some new Star Trek. We’re not complaining - really - but the final episode of Picard aired back in March and since then - nothing. Well this week saw a bunch of news cross our feed about Star Trek stars in other upcoming roles or mediums, so we figured we’d share them with you now so that you have them for, you know, the next five month drought. A new documentary featuring Nichelle Nichols’ role in NASA’s recruiting program - which focus on women and people of color - has struck a distribution deal with Shout! Studios. The film, titled “Woman in Motion”, will feature interviews with friends, colleagues, experts, and Star Trek stars. It’s expected to release in 2021. If you’re itching for something this moment, and are in the mood for a bit of a downer, HBO’s documentary Showbiz Kids is out now - with stories from Wesley Crusher himself, Wil Wheaton. According to HBO’s website description ”Showbiz Kids offers an unvarnished look at the high-risk, high-reward business of working as a child actor in the entertainment industry. Written and directed by former child actor Alex Winter (Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, The Panama Papers), the film chronicles the shared experiences of prominent former child stars and the personal and professional price of fame and failure on a child.” Looking for something a little lighter and don’t mind waiting about a week? The long-awaited “Unbelievable!!!!!” is set for it’s streaming release on August 1st. The Sci-Fi comedy sports a “Team America” style marionette, Snoop Dogg - and over FORTY Star Trek alumni! To go along with the release,  there will be events all day - we’ll post a link in the show notes if you want to trek them out. And finally, a little casting news, Star Trek’s Kelvin Spock - Zachary Quinto - has been cast in the Amazon Prime animated series “Invincible”. Based on the graphical novel of the same name, the story follows the son of Earth’s greatest Superhero. Bookmark our show notes so you don’t forget! Star Trek Gaming News by Shane Hoover and Thomas Reynolds Star Trek Timelines Event: “Sto’Vo’Kor Lost” “Who overcomes [b]y force, hath overcome but half his foe.” Of course, you’ve not experienced Milton until you’ve read the text in the original Klingon. Brush up on the classic literature of Qo’noS during Star Trek Timelines’ “Sto’Vo’Kor Lost” Skirmish Event, running from July 23rd through 27th. Dr. Edward La Forge joins the Timelines lineup as this event’s 5-star Ranked Reward crew, with high event bonuses coming from the new 5-star Mother L’Rell, new 4-star Groom Worf, and returning 4-star Q Junior as event crew. And what is a Skirmish Event without the armies of heaven to command: with the 2-star Klingon K’Vort Bird-of-Prey, 4-star U.S.S. Defiant, and the new 5-star IKS Negh’Var, the brazen throat of war shall never cease to roar. QAPLA’! The Continuing Mission, With Terms & Conditions By now Star Trek Timelines players have no doubt been confronted with Some Kind of In-Game Pop-up Anomaly, asking them to accept publisher Tilting Point’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. On July 17 Wicked Realms announced the switch from former owner Disruptor Beam’s terms, noting that players would have to accept the terms to continue playing. The post acknowledges recent concerns with the game’s Offer Wall feature, and a review of what advertising partner ironSource’s SDK collects when the game is launched on Android (remember, the Offer Wall is indefinitely gone from iOS). However, any offers you-the-player accept via the Offer Wall “will take place outside of the game and outside the control of Tilting Point or ironSource, and you may be requested to share additional information on a voluntary basis to the third party managing that offer, and such information will be subject to that third party’s privacy policy”. So, you know, not our circus, not our monkeys, caveat lusor, etc. etc. RETROTREK The world of Star Trek gaming is vast and varied. We want to spotlight some previously released Star Trek games. Whether to celebrate a classic, or make a new introduction, we’re slingshotting around the sun for our new regular segment, RetroTrek. And now, here’s Anthony with another board game about building your own crew deck. This week, we’re trekking out Star Trek Deck Building Game! We’ll look at the Original Series deck, the Next Generation deck, and still more Next Gen decks!

Charlie, Carrie, and Paul are children displaced from London by German bombings and are put into the reluctant care of Miss Eglantine Price - an apprentice witch learning her craft via a correspondence course.○ The children find out Miss Price’s secret when they see her flying on a broom and attempt to blackmail her. Miss Price buys their secrecy with a transportation spell that allows their bed to travel anywhere in the world and explains that she is trying to use her powers to end the war. However, in a bit of an ironic twist, it appears as though the war has put a premature end to her course. Still determined to use magic to end the war, Miss Price and the children take the bed to London to find her teacher, Professor Emelius Browne. They find Mr. Browne, but it turns out that he is nothing but a street magician turned con-artist who had no idea that his “spells” actually work. When Miss Price asks about the spells, he says he got all of them from a book he found - but he doesn’t have the entire book.Delighted at the prospect of his spells actually working and the idea of a duo performing act starring himself and Miss Price, Mr. Browne leads the group to the Portobello Road marketplace in hopes of finding the rest of the book - in their search they come across the mysterious criminal the Bookman - who has the other half of the book, which reveals that the spell is written on a medallion on the mystical Island of Naboombu. Our group takes the bed to Naboombu and meet the King - who is wearing the sought-after medallion and is very upset that they don’t have a referee for their soccer match. Mr. Browne agrees to referee the match and attempts to use the opportunity to get a better look at the medallion. After a chaotic soccer match, the group manages to retrieve the spell and return to England. The “substitutiary locomotion” spell makes inanimate objects move in a lifelife way, and as the group returns and finds a Nazi invasion in England, Miss Price uses the spell to create an army of inanimate objects and fend off the Nazis. Afterward, she is pleased with her success, but has decided to give up magic and continue looking after the children. Mr. Browne is inspired to do something more important and joins the army (promising to return to Miss Price after ;) )○ Fun facts: ○ Weird relationship with Mary Poppins - Bedknobs repeatedly shelved○ Stage musical -2019???? In honor of Pandy's stage commitments at time of release, Hey, an Actor! enlists the help of Dame Angela Lansbury to make sense of their shared theatrical credit of The Pirates of Penzance. The Brothers Wilson not only cover this famed 1983 theatrical movie, but Lansbury's Oscar-nominated turn in The Manchurian Candidate, and her starring role opposite HAA's patron saint David Tomlinson in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. The episode features perhaps its strongest film recommendation since Smokey and the Bandit, as well as multiple references to English actor Jim Dale, and where the Tim Allen sitcom Home Improvement improbably correlates with one of our featured films. Additionally, Pandy uses the episode to road-test new characters such as Jakko Warner, EmailBot, and Statistician Vincent, whilst Ian is reunited with one of TABHAL's greatest running jokes: Rex Smith and his acting masterclass.

It's time for another musical! Join us as we re-watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks and realize that it probably should have been called 'Mary Poppins But Not As Good". Released in 1971, B-knobs and B-sticks, stars the always adorable Angela Lansbury and Mr. Banks himself David Tomlinson and combines cartoons with live action for another thrilling magical adventure. We'll talk about many fascinating things including: why jerk face Charlie is essentially one of those pricky Gallagher brothers from Oasis, which songs and scenes are our favorite, and the thrilling tale of how a Jamaican steel drum band ends up on Portobello Road.  Grab your broomstick and mangy old sick cat and come get witchy with us! The Love Bug... Cute Disney movie? Yes. Awesome racing movie? Even more so, yes! Sid and James are joined by Jason Torchinsky of Jalopnik to talk about the movie that started the Herbie franchise, the awesome cars that played supporting roles, and the surprisingly great racing scenes of The Love Bug. Not only is Jason a writer for Jalopnik, but he's also a VW Beetle owner and he's unusually passionate about this movie. When you give The Love Bug a second viewing as an adult, you start to understand why. Herbie is up against some amazing race competition - C2 Corvettes, Jaguars, Lamborghinis, and of course the ultra rare, Buick V8 powered Apollo GT. Racing scenes convey a sense of danger and excitement that you honestly wouldn't expect from a kids movie, and Herbie - a sentient VW that doesn't talk, manages to convey quite a few complex emotions, including a pretty intense suicide attempt.  The laughs are there, too - with Buddy Hackett shedding his foul-mouth stand-up persona to play the silly sidekick and David Tomlinson flying headfirst into the villain role with dastardly brilliance.  Find Jason and his wonderful articles at www.jalopnik.com! Subscribe to Reels and Wheels on iTunes or Stitcher and leave us some feedback! @ReelsandWheels, @SidBridgeComedy and @S2KJames

With Ian overusing the phrase "one-two punch" and Pandy constantly forgetting the names of actresses the podcast has previously featured, The Brothers Wilson again review three films from their subject's repertoire. The hit 1979 comedy 10 improbably features both Flash Gordon and Will Ackerman, whilst The Princess Diaries paves the way for a future Anne Hathaway episode. And, as expected, the Mary Poppins review devotes an entire 10 minutes to David Tomlinson's finest hour, in addition to cockney accents, Poochie and Brian "Road Dogg" Anderson. All this, plus Pandy's efforts at a 1979 movie quiz, and Ian's video-plus confessions.

Yes, it's time for us to have some fun with Bedknobs and Broomsticks, the 1971 film starring Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson that may owe a debt or two or twelve to Mary Poppins, from its Sherman Brothers songs to its animated sequence to everything in between. Is this movie nothing more than a knockoff, or does it have hidden charms beneath all the tomfoolery? Are we in...a tight spot? (And what does a Coen Brothers reference have to do with this film?)
