In October 1986, two young girls vanished in Brighton, Sussex, England. 9 year old Nicola Fellows and Karen Hadaway were playing in Wild Park when a monster murdered them. The main suspect was identified quickly, but missteps in the investigation led to an acquittal. Thankfully, investigators did not give up and over three decades later, the girls finally got justice. The case became known as “The Babes in the Wood” murders after a classic English children's tale and was one of Sussex's longest investigations.  Click here to join our Patreon.  Connect with us on Instagram and join our Facebook group.  To submit listener stories or case suggestions, and to see all sources for this episode: https://www.inhumanpodcast.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Dear Humans, Today on The God Show, Jesus and I played a clip from an anti-fascist leftist hero who set up a fake "Illegal Immigrant Report" tip line, and racist snitches keep calling it thinking it's real. One of them was a kindergarten teacher trying to get her own 6-year-old student's parents deported. Yes, really. She said it all out loud, then immediately lost her mind the second the guy on the phone started repeating her cruelty back to her in plain English. And after that, we kept going: more calls, more bigots outing themselves, and more proof that these people aren't "concerned citizens." They're wannabe deportation cops with Fox News for a brain. We also hit the real news, including: new polling from Harry Enten showing Americans do not trust Trump on elections a surprise Supreme Court move on California's new maps a Tulsi Gabbard whistleblower deadline that's about to detonate by Friday Seriously though, when you hear how these callers react when the "agent" simply restates what they're asking for, you're going to laugh your ass off. These racist schmucks want to do evil, but they ALSO want to feel self-righteous while they do it. The second you repeat their own evil desires back to them, they totally freak out! There was righteous laughter today. The kind that cleanses your soul. Enjoy!

AI agents aren't “coming” to Ethereum—they're already here, spinning up on dedicated machines, clicking through wallets, deploying contracts, and even building apps for themselves. In this episode, Ryan and David sit down with Davide Crapis and Austin Griffith to map the emerging agent stack: ERC-8004 as a decentralized identity + reputation layer, x402 as payment rails for agent-to-agent commerce, and the real-world “Clawdbot” experiments that show what happens when an agent gets a wallet, a codebase, and a mandate. Along the way: prompt-injection risks, why agents read calldata like it's their native language, and why it may be the best time in history to be a solo builder—even as it gets harder to be a junior dev. ---

Click Here for the Show Notes   In this episode of Ask Marco, we dive into a question every serious real estate investor eventually faces—but few truly understand: how umbrella insurance actually works inside a real asset protection structure. Listener Shaw lays out an impressive setup with multiple LLCs, holding companies, trusts, and layered insurance, then asks the big question: should umbrella coverage live at the LLC level, the holding company level, or both? Marco breaks it all down in plain English—personal vs. commercial umbrella policies, how they “stack” on top of primary coverage, why common ownership matters, and how to simplify even the most complex multi-state, multi-entity portfolios without leaving dangerous gaps. If you own multiple properties, use LLCs, or are scaling your portfolio and want to protect what you're building the right way, this episode is packed with practical insights you don't want to miss.

    Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for February 5, 2026 is: adulation • aj-uh-LAY-shun • noun Adulation refers to extreme or excessive admiration, flattery, or praise. // The triumphant players were greeted with shouts of adulation. See the entry > Examples: “Curators focus on the sunnier side of Elvis's tragic story, yet Graceland still provides an intimate glimpse into superstardom and all that comes with it: the adulation, the opulence, the hangers-on and the darkness that counterbalances such a burst of light.” — Rick Rojas, The New York Times, 29 Nov. 2025 Did you know? If witnessing a display of adulation reminds you of a dog panting after its beloved person, you've picked up adulation's etymological “scent”; the word ultimately comes from the Latin verb adūlārī, meaning “to fawn on” (a sense used specifically of the affectionate behavior of dogs) or “to praise insincerely.” Adulation has been in use in English since the 15th century. The verb adulate, noun adulator, and adjective adulatory followed dutifully behind.

Money advice is broken. It's either shamey, gatekept, or written for people who already have money. Vivian Tu built her career proving there's a better way. After learning how money actually moves inside Wall Street at JPMorgan, she left the system and taught millions how to win at it anyway through Your Rich BFF. No jargon. No guilt. Just systems that work. Vivian is a former Wall Street trader turned financial educator and founder of Your Rich BFF, one of the largest personal finance platforms in the world. She's known for translating complex money rules into clear, actionable playbooks for people who were never taught how wealth is built or protected. She breaks down:• Why buy-now-pay-later isn't convenience, it's a quiet wealth killer• How to calculate your “walk away” number and what it actually unlocks• Why budgeting fails when it's about restriction instead of design• The invisible tactics advertisers use to drain your financial discipline• How wealthy families transfer money intentionally while everyone else leaves it to chance• Why housing, wages, and timing really are stacked against younger generations• The only kind of income that compounds without burning you out• How to handle your first $10K without overthinking it• Why prenups are protection, not a lack of trust• How to split money with a partner in a way that's fair, not equal This isn't theory or hustle culture. It's applied finance from someone who's seen how the game is played behind closed doors and decided to explain it in plain English. If money has ever felt overwhelming, confusing, or emotionally loaded, this conversation rewires how you think about it and what's actually possible. Divorce can become significantly more complicated when culture, immigration status, or international law are part of the equation. I'm joined by family law attorney Diana Romanov for a conversation about what happens when divorce crosses cultural and international lines.  Diana brings a rare perspective to this work, shaped by her own immigration journey, her legal training, and practice across multiple countries. Together, we unpack how jurisdiction is determined when spouses live in different countries, how cultural norms shape power and decision-making in divorce, and why custody battles often look very different when one parent has been the primary caregiver for most of the marriage. We also dig into the realities of international relocation with children and how courts decide who can move, who can't, and why. At its core, this is about understanding how power, protection, and parenting are negotiated when the rules are shaped by more than one system. What you'll hear about in this episode: How Diana's international background and lived experience as an immigrant informs the way she practices family law and advocates for clients across cultural lines (2:06) What "jurisdiction" really means in international and cross-border divorce (5:00) How cultural norms around gender roles, finances, and marriage can deeply impact the divorce process (11:05) Strategic realities behind custody negotiations, including when equal timeshare is about optics or money rather than actual parenting (13:08) How international and long-distance custody and relocation cases are evaluated, including the factors courts use to decide whether a parent can move with children (24:46) What parents need to understand about documentation, communication, and evidence in high-conflict and cross-border cases (34:40) ✨ If you'd like to watch the video version of this episode, you can find it here. Learn more about Diana Romanov: Diana Romanov is a San Francisco family law attorney, licensed in California and Germany, and a certified Family Law Specialist. Fluent in English, Russian, and German, she provides counsel, representation, and mediation services across cultural lines. But what if the very things we're rushing to automate are the things that actually make leadership work?   In this episode, Bradley Hartmann explores a surprising case study: the resurgence of Barnes & Noble, a 140-year-old, paper-and-ink business thriving in the age of AI and Amazon.   Using the Barnes & Noble turnaround as a lens, this episode breaks down two leadership capabilities AI will never replicate—and why they matter more than ever in construction:   Being a genuine fan of the work, the customer, and the people doing the work Taste and human judgment—knowing what matters, what doesn't, and when timing matters more than data.     This isn't a story about books.   It's a story about leadership, accountability, and change in old, complex industries—just like construction.   This episode will help you:   Identify where your organization may be over-centralized or over-optimized Reclaim leadership leverage that no software can replace Make better decisions about what to abandon, not just what to add Lead change without losing trust, judgment, or accountability   You'll walk away with a clearer lens on what great construction leadership actually requires in the age of AI.   If Barnes & Noble can come back by falling back in love with books, imagine what could happen in construction if leaders fell back in love with building—and the people who make it happen.   https://www.honest-broker.com/p/what-can-we-learn-from-barnes-and   https://substack.com/@tedgioia   At Bradley Hartmann & Company, we help construction teams improve sales, leadership,  and communication by reducing miscommunication, strengthening teamwork, and bridging language gaps between English and Spanish speakers. In this episode of Brake Check, we're getting into what's really going on in freight right now — and yeah, things are finally getting interesting again. Charles Gracey sits down with JP Hampstead from FreightWaves to break down why the truckload market is suddenly way more volatile than what we've seen the past couple years. Winter storms, rising tender rejections, tightening capacity, spot rates heating up — we explain what all of that actually means without the fluff. If you've been wondering whether this market shift is real or just another fake-out, this conversation puts it into plain English. We also dig into earnings and outlooks from major carriers like Old Dominion, Heartland, and CFI, talk inventory levels, tariffs, and why some shippers are trying (and failing) to lock in last year's rates. The big question: is this finally a sustainable rebound, or are we setting up for another crash? Then we shift to the people side of trucking with Kevin Hall, CEO of CDLLife. We talk driver recruiting, why drivers are being way pickier right now, what a “quality driver” actually means, and why respect matters more than most job ads want to admit. If you recruit drivers, manage drivers, or are a driver, this part hits home. And to wrap it up, Malcolm Harris jumps in for some real talk on the current freight temperature, broker vs carrier perspectives, and why relationship-based freight might finally be making a comeback. In today's episode, we cover a massive legal victory for truck drivers as a California jury awards over $50 million in a whistleblower lawsuit against food giant Sysco. The verdict addresses allegations of retaliation against workers who reported unsafe conditions and falsified records, sending a strong message about corporate accountability. We also look at new regulatory updates where the FMCSA has established specific geographic "safe zones" for drivers struggling with English proficiency. These exceptions near the border will prevent drivers from being placed out of service for language violations, though citations will still be issued. Finally, we report on the sentencing of a truck driver who will serve additional prison time for a revenge-fueled arson spree targeting Swift Transportation trailers. The 67-year-old was convicted of setting fires across multiple states and will serve consecutive sentences for his crimes. Former Christian Minister Craig Fentor was in the midst of a deep spiritual void when he first picked up a book of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi's poetry in his local LA bookshop. The writings of Rumi, a 13th-century Persian poet, Islamic scholar, and Sufi mystic have long inspired people across faiths. And Rumi's poetry on divine love and the soul's journey toward God would captivate Craig, inspiring him to leave behind his Californian home, to begin a new life as a whirling dervish in Turkey. The BBC's Emily Wither travelled to meet Craig Fenter - now known as Ismail - in the Central Anatolian city of Konya. Konya is known as Rumi's resting place and is now an important pilgrimage site for his followers. It is here where Ismail joined the Mevleni order, became a disciple of Rumi and converted to Islam. Ismail is now working on a new English translation of Rumi's most famous work, the Masnavi-yi Maʿnavi, 25,000 verses of rhymed couplets in Persian. Ismail believes it is his calling to work on a modern translation of Rumi's greatest work, for which he has the blessing of Rumi's 22nd generation direct descendants. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for February 4, 2026 is: diaphanous • dye-AF-uh-nus • adjective Diaphanous is a formal word used to describe fabric of a texture so fine that one can see through it. Diaphanous is also sometimes used figuratively to describe something characterized by extreme delicacy of form. // The bride looked radiant in her floor-length gown and diaphanous veil. See the entry > Examples: "With a bright pattern set on flaming crimson and a diaphanous petticoat underneath, the dress fits her perfectly." — David Wingrave, Harpers Magazine, 24 Oct. 2025 Did you know? What do the words diaphanous, epiphany, fancy, phenomenon, sycophant, emphasis, and phase all have in common? The Greek word phaínein shows more clearly in some of these words than in others, but it underlies all of them. The groundwork for diaphanous was laid when phaínein (meaning "to bring to light, cause to appear") was combined with the prefix dia- (meaning "through"). From that pairing came the Greek diaphanḗs ("transparent"), parent of the Medieval Latin diaphanus, which is the direct ancestor of the English word.

All Shook Up: A Novel by Enid Langbert https://www.amazon.com/All-Shook-Up-Enid-Langbert/dp/1684632641 Enidlangbert.com This YA debut speaks to the continued interest in the teen culture of the 1950s—Elvis Presley, teenage rebellion—with a young girl embarking on adventure and music, ultimately uncovering family secrets. Being fourteen is especially hard in 1956, when the world is changing around you. Honor student Paula Levy was born into a family of historical victims: her mother's youth was lost in the Depression and her father's was destroyed in the Holocaust, an as-yet-unnamed event about which no one speaks. But Paula has heard the new music taking hold of the nation—rock and roll—and it has given her hope. And she has two friends to get her through life's ups and downs: Holden Caulfield, hero of Catcher in the Rye, who shares her view of the world, and Barbara, a “cool” girl in her high school who unexpectedly shares Paula's view of Holden. Paula's mother is not a fan of Barbara, and she prohibits her daughter from associating with her. Paula manages to get around her mother's rule and see Barbara anyway—but when Paula asks the wrong questions about her father's past and Barbara is caught with her “boyfriend,” their private world of Holden, rock, and Elvis Presley crumbles. Angry with the adults in their lives, the two girls run away to find Barbara's real father, a jazz musician. Disappointingly, he does not live in a mansion or socialize with Elvis—but Paula and Barbara may find something even better. About the author Enid Wolfe Langbert was not as adventurous as her protagonist, Paula, in high school, but she made up for it in the sixties by marching, sitting in, and raging against segregation and the war while, in her spare time, raising three children. Eventually, she went to law school. She loved zealously advocating for her clients as an attorney, whether they deserved it or not, until her husband became ill and she closed her practice to care for him. After he passed, she traveled widely and enrolled in an English literature master's program. She is now writing her thesis, tracing the influence of James Joyce's legal issues on his writing of Finnegans Wake—a topic about which she is unambiguously passionate. Enid lives in New York City.

When Jessica Mitford (aka Decca) was eleven, in 1928, she opened a Running Away Account at Drummonds Bank. A few years later she ran away to Spain to help in the fight against Franco, and not long after that moved to the US where she became a naturalised citizen and joined the Communist Party. The Mitford sisters wrote many books and even more have been written about them, but Carla Kaplan's scholarly new biography of Jessica is a welcome addition to the ‘Mitford industry', according to Rosemary Hill, because she approaches her subject as an ‘American communist with an unusual background in the English aristocracy'. In this episode, Rosemary joins Thomas Jones to talk about Decca's eventful life, her work as a civil rights activist and writer, and her complicated relationships with the other Mitfords. When asked whether the bond with her sisters had ‘stood between her and life's cruel circumstances', Decca replied: ‘Sisters were life's cruel circumstances.' In this transformative episode, we explore why your English feels stuck — and it's not what you think. The problem isn't your vocabulary, grammar, or practice time. It's the invisible prison of perfectionism, rehearsal, and the exhausting attempt to translate your entire personality into a second language.Discover the five powerful mindset shifts that separate lifelong students from confident speakers:Stop Rehearsing: Learn why mental preparation actually blocks fluency and how speaking without a script builds real confidenceGive Yourself Permission to Be Approximately Right: Understand why "close enough" vocabulary creates connection while perfectionism creates silenceSpeak Before You're Ready: Master the art of trusting yourself to figure it out as you go — the secret of true fluencyStop Translating Your Personality: Release the impossible burden of being exactly the same person in English and discover a new dimension of yourselfEmbrace the Mess: Recognize that mistakes aren't obstacles to fluency — they ARE the pathPacked with real-world examples from team meetings, job interviews, networking events, and everyday conversations, this lesson shows you exactly how each principle plays out in actual situations. You'll see how professionals just like you transformed their English by changing not what they say, but how they relate to the act of speaking itself. If you've been waiting to feel "ready" before you speak with confidence, this episode will show you why readiness doesn't come before speaking — it comes from speaking. Photo: Members of the MMIW Search & Hope Alliance attend a cadaver session led by Dr. William Borman, in Portland, Oreg. Thursday, January 22, 2026. (Brian Bull / Buffalo's Fire) Search teams working on Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) cases must prepare themselves for the likelihood they will come across a body. One group based in Portland, Oreg. is proactively preparing volunteers for that encounter, as Brian Bull of Buffalo's Fire reports. Inside an anatomy lab, William Borman, professor of basic sciences for the University of Western States, carefully turns a cadaver over on a metal table. Metal canopies cover human cadavers inside Linfield University's anatomy lab in Portland, Oreg. Thursday, January 22, 2026. (Photo: Brian Bull / Buffalo's Fire) A tinge of formaldehyde fills the air. Seven volunteers with the group, MMIW Search & Hope Alliance, examine its tendons, nerves, and organs. Kimberly Lining is the group's founder. She says she has seen death up close many times. “And I think through my years of traumatic experiences with violent death, I’ve seen a lot, it’s prepared me. I think just due to fire, like steel is forged through fire.” But for most people, exposure to death and corpses is not a recurring thing, so Lining reached out to Borman to arrange a visit. Not only does it gird people for when they find a body, but it helps them discern between human and animal remains. Two volunteers, Sabrina Griffith and Isabella Regalado, say they would recommend this experience. “Just seeing the veins, the actual ligaments, the bone, the muscles, it was quite surprising to see it and feel it in real life. I've only touched bones and stuff like that, so it’s very interesting to actually feel the inner part of our body.” “It’s actually been better than anticipated. I thought it would be a little bit more gruesome, but everyone has been very professional and understanding, and everyone has been doing their best to educate everyone else.” Lining and Borman remind people that viewing cadavers is not the same as coming across a corpse, whether that is in the wilderness or city. Such bodies are not preserved, and beyond what the cause of death inflicted, would be subject to the elements and scavengers. “If it’s in the wilderness, in the forest, bears, cougars, wolves … they’re gonna tear at stuff and leave the bone. So definitely pieces more than together.” Near the end of the visit, Borman sprayed a blue hydrating liquid to keep the cadavers from drying out and developing mold. He said everyone in Lining's group was respectful and asked great questions. “I’m pleased that we were able to make this happen. If she were interested in doing it again, I'd be open to doing it again.” Lining and her volunteers gave small gifts of gratitude to Borman and thanked him for his time. MMIW Search & Hope Alliance is preparing for two search efforts in the next few weeks. Jon Boutcher, Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, is asked about the arrest of Máire Mhic an Fhailí during a Policing Board meeting in September 2025. (Courtesy Policing Board / Facebook). An Irish language activist has won a landmark decision in Northern Ireland following her arrest during a protest. Seo McPolin has more from Ireland. Seventy-four-year-old grandmother Máire Mhic an Fhailí attended a peaceful protest in support of the Palestinian people last August in Belfast. She was among those arrested under the UK’s controversial Terrorism Laws because of her t-shirt. JJ Ó Dochartaigh from the Irish language band Kneecap wore the same T-shirt as Máire Mhic an Fhailí ahead of the band's 2025 Glastonbury set. (Courtesy Kneecap / X) During the arrest, English-speaking police officers were unable to understand her as she gave them her address – because she spoke in her Indigenous language of Irish. The Police Ombudsman ruled last week that the arresting officer should have taken reasonable steps to arrange a translation service – and that Mhic an Fhailí experienced “oppressive behavior”. The police watchdog also issued a policy recommendation for future engagements with Irish-language speakers. Mhic an Fhailí’s lawyer says this decision “puts a marker down” for how the police service must respect the Irish language moving forward. Get National Native News delivered to your inbox daily.
