RUNDOWN Frustrated by another Mariners series loss, Mitch argues that Dan Wilson's quick hook of Emerson Hancock in Cleveland set off the bullpen dominoes that ultimately cost Seattle the game. He and Hotshot Scott debate whether the manager deserves the blame, discuss why the season isn't lost despite the club slipping under .500, and preview an episode packed with Mariners prospect talk, World Cup excitement, and another edition of Release Date trivia. The Mariners' ugly loss in Cleveland sparks a spirited debate over Dan Wilson's bullpen management, whether Emerson Hancock should have finished the sixth inning, and if Seattle is putting itself in impossible situations with its pitching decisions. Mitch, Brady, and Joe also dissect the confusing six-man rotation strategy, discuss whether Emerson Hancock belongs in the bullpen, evaluate internal reinforcements like Ryan Sloan and Patrick Wisdom, preview the upcoming Angels and Blue Jays series, and make their weekly "Out on a Limb" predictions. MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis joins Mitch to break down another loaded Mariners farm system, offering updates on Colt Emerson's development, Felin Celesten's breakout season, and why Seattle continues to boast one of baseball's deepest prospect pipelines. The conversation also dives into Kade Anderson's rapid rise, Ryan Sloan's ace potential, the upcoming MLB Draft, and how the Mariners could eventually use their prospect depth to chase a World Series. Mitch and Jason Puckett spend another episode doing what they do best—arguing over the Mariners, poking fun at each other's broadcasting habits, and turning small disagreements into entertaining debates. They also dive into Puck's upcoming trip to Spain, the Running of the Bulls, World Cup excitement, and the polarizing reaction to U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark.   GUESTS   Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose podcast Joe Doyle | MLB analyst, Over-Slot Jim Callis | Senior Writer for MLB Pipeline Jason Puckett | KJ-Aren't / Puck Drop   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Dan Wilson's bullpen decisions, the Mariners' latest collapse, World Cup fever arriving in Seattle, and another entertaining round of Release Date trivia headline the opening segment of Episode 388. 26:50 | Mariners No-Table: Dan Wilson's latest bullpen decisions, the Mariners' muddled pitching plans, growing calls for rotation changes, and another round of "Out on a Limb" predictions fuel this week's Mariners No Table discussion. 1:00:04 | Jim Callis: Callis explains why the Mariners' farm system remains among baseball's best, evaluates Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan's futures, and previews another pivotal MLB Draft for Seattle. 1:21:52 | Jason Puckett: Mitch and Jason Puckett trade playful jabs over the Mariners, preview Puck's Spain adventure, debate the Running of the Bulls, and discuss the golf world's complicated relationship with Wyndham Clark. 1:40:16 | Other Stuff: Justin Bieber at the NHL Draft, Mitch's Justin Bieber karaoke encounter, Phil Mickelson controversy, Buffalo Bills leaving O.J. ⚠️ Content WarningThis episode contains open discussions about gambling addiction, alcohol and drug use, domestic violence and suicide. Please take care of yourself first. If you're not in the right headspace, come back to this one when you're ready. There is no rush.If you need support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 (available 24/7) or visit lifeline.org.auThis week I sat down with Luke Bateman, and this was one of those chats that covered so much ground I genuinely didn't want it to end.Luke played 71 NRL games for the Canberra Raiders before injury and his own mental health forced him to step away from the game. What most people don't know is that behind the footy career, Luke was fighting a serious gambling addiction that ended up costing him around $500,000 over four years, alongside struggles with alcohol and drugs. He's been incredibly open about how that addiction took hold, what it cost him, and what it actually took to get out the other side.We also got into something Luke is really passionate about right now. Ahead of State of Origin Games 2 and 3, Luke is using his platform to call out the link between alcohol, masculinity and violence, with research showing a 40% rise in domestic violence incidents on State of Origin nights. We talk about why he believes alcohol and gambling advertising in sport needs the same scrutiny we've seen applied to tobacco, and why this conversation matters so much to him.And then there's the part of Luke's story that surprised everyone. From hiding fantasy novels in the toilet as a tough country kid playing first grade footy, to becoming one of the biggest names on BookTok and signing a two-book fantasy series deal with Atria Books. It's a brilliant reminder that it's never too late to embrace who you really are. This one covers addiction, advocacy, masculinity and reinvention. Luke is honest, switched on, and using his voice for something that really matters. In this episode we cover:Luke's journey through the NRL with the Canberra RaidersThe gambling addiction that cost him around $500,000 over four yearsHis struggles with alcohol and drug use during his playing careerWhat recovery actually looked like for himThe culture in elite sport around gambling and drinkingThe link between alcohol, masculinity and domestic violenceThe 40% rise in family violence incidents during State of OriginCalls to tighten alcohol advertising regulation, similar to gambling and tobaccoHiding his love of fantasy novels as a kid on a cattle propertyBecoming a BookTok sensation and signing his Atria Books dealWhy storytelling and reading matter for boys and menThe numbers behind this conversation:Alcohol is involved in up to 47% of all police-reported family violence incidents47% of women sexually assaulted by a man in the past decade said alcohol or another substance contributed to the most recent incidentResearch shows a 40% increase in violence towards women and children in NSW on State of Origin game nightsState of Origin Game 3 — Wed 8th JulyIf this episode brought something up for you:

For over a century, Alfred Hitchcock has remained one of cinema’s most influential directors. Known as the Master of Suspense, this visionary filmmaker directed more than fifty films over six decades. His thriller “The Lodger” (1927) marked the start of his signature style, which was later exemplified in classic films like “Vertigo” (1958), “North by Northwest” (1959), “Psycho” (1960), and “The Birds” (1963). Hitchcock’s work received tremendous success and critical acclaim. While he never won the competitive Academy Award for Best Director, he received five Oscar nominations, two Golden Globes, the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, a BAFTA Fellowship, multiple lifetime achievement awards, and two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Nine of his films are preserved in the United States National Film Registry. His mastery of tension, innovative camera techniques, and psychological depth continue to inspire and influence modern filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, Jordan Peele, and Bong Joon Ho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NUJN1fq0Sc Drawing on new archival research, previously unpublished interviews, and a rigorous examination of key biographies, “A Century of Hitchcock” challenges the long-standing narratives that have shaped Hitchcock’s legacy. Author Tony Lee Moral revisits controversial claims regarding Hitchcock’s alleged abuses, scrutinizing biographer Donald Spoto’s interpretations—particularly Spoto’s portrayal of the director’s relationship with actress Tippi Hedren. With his analysis of Spoto’s 1980 interview of Hedren, Moral reveals for the first time how one key document contradicts decades of exaggeration. In this comprehensive reappraisal of Hitchcock’s career, Moral encourages readers to explore the complexities of creative collaboration and the risks of relying on a single biographical narrative. Marking one hundred years since Hitchcock’s first film, “The Pleasure Garden”, and fifty years since his last film, “Family Plot”, Moral reexamines the director’s cinematic brilliance, storytelling mastery, creative partnerships, and controversies, offering a fresh perspective on Hitchcock’s legacy in the post-#MeToo era.

This week, Jason is joined by Bravo personality and The Valley star Janet Caperna for a conversation about career reinvention, reality television, social media monetization, entrepreneurship, financial planning, and the unexpected path that led her from Ohio to becoming one of Bravo's fastest-rising stars. Before becoming a reality television personality, Janet built a completely different career. Growing up in Ohio, she earned degrees in English and American Sign Language interpretation before managing a large team of interpreters. Following a divorce in her late twenties, Janet made the difficult decision to leave Ohio for Los Angeles, seeking a fresh start and a new chapter in life. Janet shares how a friendship with Scheana Shay unexpectedly opened doors in Hollywood and eventually led her into the world of executive support for high-net-worth individuals. She reflects on working for a billionaire family before landing what she describes as a dream role helping build Avaline, the wine company founded by Cameron Diaz and Katherine Power. Janet offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at how celebrity-founded businesses actually operate, explaining why Avaline succeeded by having deeply involved founders who treated the company like a true startup rather than simply lending their names to a brand. Jason and Janet dive into the realities of executive assistant careers, discussing compensation, benefits, equity opportunities, and why top assistants today can earn well into six figures. Janet also shares lessons learned from working alongside successful entrepreneurs, including how identifying gaps in the market can become the foundation for a successful business. The conversation then shifts to Bravo and the creation of The Valley. Janet explains how the show originated from real-life friendships, why she initially hesitated to join reality television, and how perfect timing—including leaving Avaline, becoming pregnant, and receiving the Bravo opportunity—ultimately changed the trajectory of her career. She discusses the realities of reality TV compensation, what viewers don't see behind the scenes, and why authenticity is critical for long-term success on television. Janet also opens up about navigating public criticism, internet hate, and social media scrutiny. She shares how difficult early seasons helped her develop resilience and why she now avoids placing too much value on either praise or criticism from strangers online. Instead, she focuses on feedback from close friends and family while continuing to build her platform in an authentic way. Beyond reality television, Janet discusses podcasting, content creation, and social media monetization. She reveals how her podcast grew organically, why some of the most successful content comes from unplanned conversations, and how she evaluates brand partnerships to ensure they align with her personal values. From landing her first paid sponsorships to building a growing audience, Janet shares practical insights for anyone looking to create content and monetize an online platform. Throughout the episode, Janet reflects on friendship, gratitude, financial discipline, and the importance of staying grounded while navigating success. Whether discussing reality television, entrepreneurship, personal finance, or career pivots, she emphasizes the value of taking calculated risks while maintaining a long-term perspective. Most people don't realise marriage is the most legally significant thing you'll do and enter it with zero plan, yet they plan everything in fitness. Passion and chemistry don't equal partnership compatibility, and complacency kills relationships when partners stop trying after "locking someone in." Relationships need intentionality, maintenance, and honest feedback like any other area of life. The hardest part isn't falling in love, it's believing you're worthy of it. He was a student at a songwriting academy in Londonand naturally, was tasked with writing a song. Several mentors at this academy havemultiple accolades in the music world and they gave Manu direct feedback. However, some changes had to be made before the song was officially released.“Originally, the song sounded like ‘Levitating' by Dua Lipa. So I made several changesand adjustments, which was a multistep process.” he said. While Manu does sing on the demo version of the song, he knew he wanted a femalevocalist on the final version and he came across Lumina B who loved the song. Hervocals on the song enhance the uplifting atmosphere of the song and the multilayeredlyrics. .Manu Chevalier plays formerly both tenor and alto sax as well as the keyboard. Butironically, the saxophone heard on “I'm Alright” is a MIDI sax sounding keyboard thatManu plays for artistic or ethical reasons.Manu's musical background includes jazz and bossa nova and he is no stranger to thejoy that comes from performing music live.“I love communicating with the audience as I perform. I often left the stage and wouldwalk down the aisles, playing directly in front of the audience. I loved enjoying theirenergy, dancing and happiness.” he said.Manu's experience with playing with music live enhanced his love for doing surprisingthings with the audience. In addition to leaving the stage, he also enjoyed doing newarrangements and versions of songs or adding his own solo parts to covers his bandwas doing. With a musical ear that was trained from his older sisters showing him aplethora of music growing up, he grew to have an appreciation for all genres frommultiple decades.“From listening to all of these artists and genres, I began to form melodies in my ownhead. At that age, I didn't realize I was composing. I kept listening to more and moreartists and began to seek out artists on my own too.” he said.Manu's musical foundation led him to creating all kinds of tracks in his career rangingfrom tracks like the disco/pop/funk of “I'm Alright” to soul, R&B, jazz, reggae, bossanova. One of his biggest musical collaborations includes a remix that featured rapperAlonestar, who is Ed Sheeran's cousin, Snoop Dogg and uncredited (for legal reasons)vocals from Ed Sheeran himself. You're probably wrong about Heidi Montag. This week on Superwomen, I sat down with the woman many people think they already know. (And no, we're not talking about The Hills.) Instead, we get into the dream Heidi had long before reality TV: her music. She shares how she spent years pouring everything into her album, why she believed it had failed, and what it felt like to watch it find a cult following more than a decade later. This is a conversation about what it costs to keep believing in a dream the world has already dismissed, and what happens when public perception finally catches up to who you were all along. This Thursday Throwback features John Taylor of Duran Duran—yes, that John Taylor in the flesh.John talks about becoming a global pop star almost overnight, still living in his childhood bedroom after Rio became a massive hit and slowly realizing that alcohol and cocaine had become stronger than he was. He opens up about addiction, shame, resentment, celebrity, Catholicism, recovery and the strange reality that even successful adults are often still wrestling with younger versions of themselves. The conversation covers everything from partying through Duran Duran's peak fame to why 12-step programs helped him stop blaming everyone else for his problems — and why most people have no idea how much work sobriety actually requires. If you've ever been hungry like the wolf to know John Taylor better, this is a can't miss.

Today's guest built an audience of millions before she was old enough to sign a record deal, turned a 30-minute crying freestyle into her debut single, and made one of Gen Z's defining breakup anthems out of a phrase that became its own internet language. But her real story isn't the viral fame or the streams. It's the part that plays like a runaway and teaches like a masterclass: how she left home at 17 to chase music, what it costs to become a person in public, and everything about the business nobody explains until you've already survived it.And The Writer Is... Nessa Barrett! In this episode of And The Writer Is, we go deep on:• Why she ran away from home at 17 — a 4AM ticket, six school bags, cops on her trail — to make music• The truth about "i hope ur miserable until ur dead": she didn't write it, it's not her favorite, and why she sang it anyway• "pain" — the 30-minute freestyle she cried through in the booth that became her first single• Why she can't record with Auto-Tune — and what she learned the first time someone handed her a finished song to cut• Signing to Warner Records on Zoom during Covid — and the messy contract she had to escape first• "All of my confidence comes from my fans" — the performer who still gets embarrassed easily• The childhood trauma and the generational cycle she says she's trying to break• Why she closes her eyes every time she records, and writes a song like she's building a movie• The lowest point of her career — and how prayer, faith, and going back to her core brought her out of it• "I've never loved my music as much as this — and I didn't know it could feel this way"And much more...

The hour wraps with Disney Cruise Lines cracking down on over-the-top cabin decorations and limiting guests to just one bottle of wine (because apparently, we’re all Disney adults now), before circling back to the legendary “lot lizard” conversation. Pure chaotic fun as only Andy can deliver. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The World Cup kicks off, pandemonium at Madison Square Garden, a brand-new Bonerline, Tom Mazawey hot takes, Corey Feldman Q&A, and Prince Harry: Most Influential Man in Sports. NBA Finals: The New York Knicks had an unbelievable comeback victory against the San Antonio Spurs. BranDon can't watch the Finals due to a stupid DirectTV/Scripps dispute. Knicks fans are going bonkers. Dave Landau appeared on WATP. Donald Trump has made another deal... for now. The World Cup kicked off... with chaos in Mexico City! Shakira shook her ass. Drew is fascinated by Canadian mobsters. The UK and Ireland have an immigration problem. There is a brand new Bonerline. Quarterly taxes suck. Karmelo Anthony's family is broke. JLo is in tears at her child's graduation. Here is a gross scene from her new Netflix movie, Office Romance (NSFW). Tom Mazawey joins the show to boast about his New York Knicks, defend unruly fans, complain about the 2023 NBA Draft, introduce us to World Cup boobies, comment on the Detroit Tigers recent surge, James Outman heading to Detroit, and more. David Beckham gets a Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Too bad his son, Brooklyn, won't be in attendance at the ceremony. The spoiled brat is selling hot sauce for $35 a pop. We can't get enough of Corey Feldman cringe. We find a recent Q&A with the Stand By Me crew. Markleverse: Prince Harry and the Invictus Games did Canadian Scott Snow dirty. The BBC continues to kiss ass. Harry is a top 100 leader of sports according to Time Magazine. Meghan continues to post nauseating photos online. Dylan Larking wants out... but the Red Wings need a good return. We might have some merch left. Click here to check what's available.
