Today on part two of our conversation on the Rarified Heir Podcast, this episode continues our conversation with Peter Rafelson, son of director and producer Bob Rafelson. Recorded the week after part one, this episode delves into some pretty heavy as well as some pretty of the wall stuff. And as you have heard on part one, it seems like that was par for the course in the Rafelson household in the 1960s and 1970s. As one of the leading figures in the American New Wave filmmakers, Bob Rafelson was responsible for producing or directing some classic, seminal films that influenced generations of film makers. It's quite a resume including films like The Postman Always Rings Twice, Head, The Last Picture Show, Easy Rider, The King of Marvin Gardens, Mountains of the Moon, a film we discuss at length, Stay Hungry as well as an unfortunately named anthology, Porn.com. Beginning with Davy Jones, we also discuss what each member of The Monkees was like off camera, how he spent the Summer of 1975 pumping iron with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Alabama, his role in the Alan Parker movie Fame, how the magazine Psychology Today saved his bacon growing up as a kid and everything in between. We discuss dyslexia, smoking pot with your teachers, trade school, working with his dad scoring a film and much more. So get ready for part two of our conversation with guest Peter Rafelson and learn what it was like having The Monkees instruments in his basement for years after the show ended its run. It's up next on part two of our conversation with the son of an Easy Rider or a Raging Bull. We're just not sure which one it was. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.
Want to reach out to us? Want to leave a comment or review? Want to give us a suggestion or berate Anthony? Send us a text by clicking this link! The Catholic internet was shaken by revelations about Voice of Reason, a rising Catholic apologist who allegedly engaged in a decade-long pattern of manipulating vulnerable women while presenting himself as a defender of the faith. This raw, unfiltered conversation dives deep into the spiritual dangers of leading a double life and the devastating consequences when those in positions of Catholic influence betray the trust placed in them.We examine how Voice of Reason allegedly used his role as a catechist to obtain contact information from young women, including a disturbing claim of grooming a minor. The conversation tackles difficult questions: What responsibility do Catholic communities have when confronted with such behavior? How should we balance mercy with accountability? And what guardrails should exist to prevent those with serious moral failings from continuing in public ministry?Beyond the individual case, we explore broader spiritual lessons about the damaging effects of sins against chastity. "The devil rejoices the most in carnal sins because they are the easiest to trick men into and the hardest to draw men away from," notes Christian, highlighting how St. Thomas Aquinas warned that lust particularly wounds one's rationality and spiritual life. This leads to a compelling discussion about how many Catholics today treat confession as a "revolving door" without genuine commitment to change.Parents will find valuable insights about protecting children in the digital age, where "every text conversation is a near occasion of sin for young people." The hosts emphasize practical strategies for teaching youth about online safety and the permanent nature of digital communications. "Nothing you do online is ever private," Anthony warns, suggesting parents use this scandal as a teaching moment. We invite you to join this crucial conversation about maintaining authentic Catholic witness in a digital world full of temptations. (This podcast was previously recorded and published on August 11, 2020) Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney ... We cannot pursue fame, money and reputation among men and serve God. The only way we can be a servant of God is to do that which God tells us to do which is opposite to the way of this world. But our flesh wants fame, money and reputation. So there is a battle. How do we overcome our own flesh? This is the story of this Podcast. == I John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in HIM, that, if we ask any thing according to HIS will, HE heareth us: 15 And if we know that HE hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of HIM. Matthew 4:8-11 Again, the devil taketh HIM (Jesus) up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth HIM all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto HIM, All these things will I give THEE, if THOU wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and HIM only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth HIM, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto HIM. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day (of the Lord) shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 2 Thessalonians 2:6-8 (NASB) And you know what restrains him now, so that he will be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only HE (Jesus, the Word) who now restrains will do so until HE (Jesus, the Word) is removed. 8 Then that lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will eliminate with the breath of HIS mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; Titus 3:10-11 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; 11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ (the Word) which strengtheneth me.

Scripture: 1 Samuel 18. Today we look at the cost of fame, the discouragement of injustice, and we will see what we can learn from David on how to navigate through them. In our text we read of David's progression of fame. He was a natural leader, a brilliant tactician, and widely acclaimed for his accomplishments. While David increased in popularity, Saul became very angry and he began to keep his eyes on David. Saul saw David as a threat to his throne and begins to want David killed, even throwing his own spear at him several times - but David escapes. David is an honorable man and refuses to retaliate by attacking Saul because he knows that Saul is the currently anointed King. (David has been anointed to be the next king, but he knows God is in charge of that timing so honors God's current choice of king by not retaliating against him.) Saul sends David away on warrior campaigns hoping David might be killed, yet David continues to be successful. With David's continued success in leading the Israelites so skillfully in battle and his acclaim continuing to grow, Saul becomes afraid of David. What we see is David's fame increases as he navigates the perils of fame. How did God enable David to cope, thrive and survive the fame with people and the injustice from Saul? A look at David's Character: ⁃ David trusted in the Lord above all else. He trusted in the Lord and not in himself, not in his own abilities or his own insights. David did what Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” ⁃ David was courageous because his courage came from God. David knew what the scriptures say, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” ⁃ David was patient and did not act rashly or try to take matters into his own hands. He knew he was the Lord's newly anointed king but he did not usurp that authority. Rather he remained patient in waiting for God's timing. Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” ⁃ HOWEVER! David WAS a sinner like all of us. Jesus is our Savior. We are not saved because of anything we've done, but rather we are saved because of everything that Jesus has done!! Philippians 5:8 tells us that Jesus, “being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” David is a great hero, but Jesus is our Savior!! We not only have forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus, but we have the strength to live our lives each day with purpose and with profound impact by relying on Him alone! Now What? What would your life look like if you truly embraced every change that came your way and surrounded yourself with the right people to help you through it? In this episode, our host Kevin Thompson talks with Jim “Soni” Sonefeld, drummer of the legendary band Hootie & the Blowfish. Jim shares how he went from chasing dreams on the soccer field to becoming part of one of the top-selling rock bands of all time. As the songwriter behind hits like “Hold My Hand”, Jim helped launch Hootie & the Blowfish into worldwide fame with their debut album Cracked Rear View, which became the 9th best-selling album in U.S. history. Jim opens up about his personal battles with alcohol addiction and how he found hope, healing, and a new purpose through faith and recovery. Today, as he gears up to release his fourth EP Remember Tomorrow and his memoir Swimming With The Blowfish: Hootie, Healing, and One Hell of a Ride, Jim reflects on the relationships that carried him through it all—his family, his bandmates, mentors, and community. [07:01 - 21:00] From Soccer to Drums • Jim talks about growing up curious, rebellious, and learning from his parents. • Music and sports shaped his youth, but drinking started early too. • Those choices followed him for years, setting the stage for future struggles. [39:01 - 51:00] Finding Recovery and Giving Back • A 12-step program and honest friends helped him heal. • Jim learned to let go of what he couldn't control in life and music. • Now at 60, he tours again with deep gratitude for a second chance. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2016 conversation with Mike Stoller. ABOUT MIKE STOLLERMike Stoller has written more than 60 songs that have appeared on the Billboard charts, including the #1 hits “Hound Dog,” “Kansas City,” “Yakety Yak,” “Searchin',” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Poison Ivy,” “Stand By Me,” “Young Blood,” “Don't,” and “Ruby, Baby." After Stoller and songwriting partner Jerry Leiber found early R&B success with recordings by Little Esther, Charles Brown, Ray Charles, and Big Mama Thornton, Elvis Presley turned their song "Hound Dog" into a #1 single on the pop, R&B, and country charts in 1956. Elvis went on to record more than 20 Leiber and Stoller titles, including the hits "Love Me," "Loving You," "Jailhouse Rock," "Treat Me Nice," "She's Not You," and "Bossa Nova Baby." Mike and Jerry signed an independent production deal with Atlantic Records in the mid-1950s, where they wrote and produced a series of hits for several artists, including the Drifters' "There Goes My Baby," "Dance With Me," and "On Broadway." Additionally, the pair wrote and produced all the Coasters' singles, including "Young Blood," "Searchin'," "Charlie Brown," "Along Came Jones," and "Poison Ivy." Other highlights from the Leiber and Stoller songbook include "Love Potion No. 9," which was a hit for both the Clovers and the Searchers, and "Is That All There Is," which was a hit for Peggy Lee. Eleven different versions of their song “Stand By Me” appeared on the Billboard charts over the span of 50 years, with the original version by Ben E. King hitting the Top 10 in both 1961 and 1986. Smokey Joe's Cafe, which included 40 Leiber and Stoller songs, opened in 1995 and became the longest running musical revue in Broadway history. Stoller received the prestigious ASCAP Founders Award in 1991, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and is a member of both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

This conversation with Roseanne Barr was exactly what I hoped it would be—real, unfiltered, and a little bit wild in the best way. We talked about her childhood in Salt Lake City, the moment she says God told her she'd have her own show when she was just three, and how that early vision shaped her entire worldview. She opened up about her rise in stand-up comedy, what it really took to get Roseanne on the air, and the battles she fought for creative control. But she didn't shy away from the hardest parts: the tweet that blew up her career, the accusations of racism, the fallout from being “canceled,” and how she sees media and politics today. Roseanne is blunt, sometimes controversial, but always raw and honest. She shared how she's rebuilt her life, why she still believes in pushing boundaries with comedy, and what matters most to her now—her family, her grandkids, and her personal freedom. In this episode of Talk of Fame, Kylie Montigney talks with Annie Scherer! Annie Scherer merges her love of rock ‘n roll classics with her passion for alternative music to produce her own unique sound. Her evocative lyrics and haunting melodies have been heard live from New York to Tennessee. In May 2025, Annie had the honor of performing at the 40th Annual Harvard Mayfair in the heart of Harvard University. She also celebrated her Chinese American heritage with her performance at the CMP gala in New York, NY and the Boston International Asian Music Festival. Annie is currently gearing up to release her EP this fall. In 2023, Annie was the runner-up in Lightning 100's Music City Mayhem competition in Nashville, which had 430+ entries. The finale included a performance at 3rd & Lindsley, where the five remaining artists battled it out live. First and second place were determined by voters and judges, including some of Nashville's top music industry members. Following the competition, Annie performed at the annual festival series, Musician's Corner in Nashville. She played the festival again on the main stage in 2024. Annie's single, "Everywhere I Go (Everybody's the Same)" earned her the #1 spot on aBreak Music, the number one music platform for independent artists, in August 2023. The song was aired internationally via iHeart Radio, and received press coverage throughout the nation. Annie released her first full-length album “Garden Bed” in March 2021. The album features previously released singles, "Andy Warhol," "Take Me Places," and "After Rain," along with six brand new tracks. Annie wrote and produced all the songs. Garden Bed showcases her skills as a composer and multi-instrumentalist, performing the trumpet, piano, guitar, and ukulele, while arranging string quartet scores for songs like "Kaleidoscope" and "Ashamed." The album was widely praised by American Songwriters, the Times Union in Albany, NY, and NYS Music. A month after its release, Annie was voted the best local musician in New York's Capital Region according to readers of the Times Union. In 2020, three of Annie's songs, including "Kaleidoscope," "After Rain," and "Roses and Lies" received honorable mentions at the international and notable songwriting competition, SongDoor. "After Rain" was selected for special recognition. Annie was awarded the 2018 Producer's Choice for the 'Celebration of Music' PBS special in Troy, NY, hosted by Ethan Bortnick. She won a trip to LA where she was taped performing "Andy Warhol." Annie's musical career began at age six, when she started classical piano lessons. She devoted 12 years to classical performance. At seven, she wrote her first song, a holiday tune that she sang for a two-person audience: her mom and music teacher. By age 12, Annie had taught herself guitar, and started gigging and writing more seriously. In addition to her musical aspirations, she is a visual artist and practices with charcoal portraits. She is also a fashion model with Rune Models.Listen in as we discuss Annie's journey and her new music. They're also in the process of finding the perfect Bond girl to accompany the legendary spy in his endeavors. Beyoncè had a little car accident at one of her shows in Houston the other day. While it wasn't a real car it was still a scary thing for her and the fans to witness. Secret Lives of Mormon Wives had their first ever reunion the other day. While some of it was a little lackluster, there were some parts that were juicy and many others that were pretty deep hit on very important topics. Demi was not in attendance but she still made an appearance via pre recorded interview. It's still unclear how most of the women feel about each other. One day they hate one another and the next they are filming funny Tik Toks and laughing. Like Cardi B once said, "What was the reason!?"
