I find this topic totally fascinating and these two past How to Fail guests give us a glimpse behind the curtain as to what becoming famous at a young age really means. Shania Twain takes us back to her childhood, singing late nights in smoke-filled bars, growing up far too fast and without real control over her own life. This week on Second Act Stories, we're featuring a series called "Rewriting the Playbook." This group of episodes features guests whose journeys share a common connection to sports, sometimes front and center, sometimes quietly shaping the path forward. In these conversations, the influence of competition, teamwork, and discipline shows up in different ways, informing career pivots and personal reinvention. Together, these stories explore how the lessons learned on the field can echo long after the final whistle, guiding second acts that are anything but predictable. Michael Strahan is an NFL legend. He spent his entire 15-year Hall of Fame career as a defensive end for the New York Giants. A five-time All-Pro, Strahan appeared in seven Pro Bowls, he accumulated 141.5 career sacks, he held two NFL sack titles, and he was a key member of the NY Giants team that won Super Bowl XLII against the New England Patriots in 2008. Following his NFL retirement, Michael Strahan joined Fox NFL Sunday as an analyst. This first foray into the broadcast booth was the catalyst for what has made him a broadcasting legend. Strahan went on to host Live! with Kelly and Michael after Regis Philbin retired, and today he's one of the hosts of ABC News Good Morning America. The two-time Emmy Award winner also hosts the highly successful reboot of the popular game show, The $100,000 Pyramid. In 2023, Strahan was honored with a star on the venerable Hollywood Walk of Fame. In this episode, Michael Strahan shares details about his careers, he discusses his transition from the gridiron to the TV studio, and he reveals the mindset and philosophies that have helped him reach the top in such a profound way. ******* If you enjoy Second Act Stories, please leave us a review here. The Enigmatic Journey of Morniel Mathaway: Art, Time Travel, and IdentityIn this episode of X Minus One, we delve into the intriguing story of Mourniel Mathaway, a painter whose journey from obscurity to fame is both fascinating and complex. The narrative begins with a vivid introduction, setting the stage for a tale that explores the nature of artistic genius and societal perception of talent. Mathaway, initially portrayed as a struggling artist, grapples with his self-identity and the weight of expectations as he is thrust into the limelight. The conversation reveals his insecurities and the paradox of being celebrated for work he feels is derivative, raising questions about authenticity in art and the role of critics in shaping an artist's legacy. As the story unfolds, we encounter a time traveler from the future, Gleskow, who brings news of Mathaway's immense fame and influence in the art world of 2487 A.D. This twist adds a layer of complexity, as Mathaway's struggle with his perceived lack of talent contrasts sharply with his future reputation. The dialogue between Mathaway and Gleskow highlights the tension between artistic aspiration and the harsh realities of creative expression, ultimately leading to a thought-provoking conclusion about the nature of genius and the impact of time on artistic legacy. In the realm of speculative fiction, few tales capture the imagination quite like the story of Morniel Mathaway. Initially an unremarkable painter, Mathaway's life takes a dramatic turn when he is visited by a future art scholar who reveals his impending fame. This narrative, rich with themes of time travel and artistic genius, invites us to ponder the nature of creativity and the impact of societal recognition on personal identity. The Discovery of Morniel MathawayMathaway's journey begins in a modest studio, where his lackluster paintings fail to garner attention. However, the arrival of a scholar from the year 2487 changes everything. This visitor, an art historian, informs Mathaway that his work will one day be revered, sparking a complex exploration of time travel paradoxes and the essence of artistic genius.A Paradox of Fame and AuthenticityAs Mathaway grapples with his newfound status, the story delves into the paradox of his future fame. The narrative raises profound questions about authenticity and creativity, challenging us to consider the role of societal validation in shaping an artist's identity. Is Mathaway's genius genuine, or is it a product of time's mysterious influence?Reflections on Art and IdentityUltimately, the tale of Morniel Mathaway serves as a poignant reflection on the nature of art and identity. It invites us to question the true source of artistic brilliance and the impact of external recognition on our sense of self. As we journey through this captivating narrative, we are reminded that the pursuit of creativity is as much about self-discovery as it is about external acclaim.Subscribe NowJoin us in exploring more intriguing stories and insights by subscribing to our blog. This week on How to Be Famous, I'm getting real about one of the biggest misconceptions in the creator world — that fame, success, or “making it” will finally make you happy. Spoiler alert: it won't. In this episode, I share what I've learned (the hard way) about redefining why we chase visibility in the first place — and how to rewire your nervous system to feel safe being seen. We talk about: The Double Slit Experiment and how it mirrors the way creators collapse their own potential when they feel watched. The “fight, flight, freeze, or fawn” responses that show up when you're stepping into new levels of visibility. How to stay in your creative flow when your brain wants to shut down. Why your home, your art, and your identity are all reflections of one another. The truth about why happiness can't be your goal — and what to focus on instead. This episode is a must-listen if you've ever thought: “What if I'm not special?” or “What if I never make it?” I'll help you reconnect to the part of you that's already a creator — the version that makes art even when no one's watching. Because fame isn't the reward… becoming who you're meant to be is.

Ross in Marvel Cinematic Universe smash hits Captain America and Black Panther - Freeman is a star, and to date has won two Emmys and a BAFTA. In this episode, Martin reflects on his childhood as the youngest of five (comparatively modest when you consider his mother was one of fourteen!) as well as the lasting impact of losing his father at ten years old. We talk about parenting, the people who've inspired him (hello, Michael Caine), the future of AI from a technophobe's perspective, his unease with fame and the quieter failures that sit behind public success. Plus: strap yourself in for much hilarity. I don't think I can remember a guest who made me laugh QUITE this much. "Money and Fame is loud, jail was quiet." Sebastian Telfair former NBA star No truer meaning of the word Pivot then the rise and fall of success, money and fame to hit rock bottom, accept the consequences and figure out how to move forward. In his first conversation since being released from prison, former NBA guard Sebastian Telfair joins The Pivot for a raw, honest, and long-awaited conversation. Once one of the most hyped prospects in basketball history, Sebastian made headlines as a teenager—gracing the cover of SLAM Magazine alongside LeBron James and becoming the symbol of New York City basketball before ever playing an NBA game. He opens up about the highs of making it to the league straight out of high school—and the lows that followed, including the choices that led to his time behind bars. Once celebrated for his basketball talent and condemned for his mistakes, Sebastian Telfair is now facing the hardest opponent of all: himself. A couple weeks after being out of jail, Sebastian addresses the legal trouble that led to his sentence, taking full responsibility for his actions and reflecting on the consequences that changed his life. Being at Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution, same place Sean Combs (P Diddy) is serving his time, he chats about thier encounter and lessons that come with freedom. Now on the other side, he shares what prison taught him, how it reshaped his perspective, and what redemption, growth, and purpose look like today. Once a teenage phenom turned NBA pro, Sebastian Telfair's story is a reminder that talent opens doors—but choices decide the outcome. Drafted straight out of high school, Telfair opens up about the pressure that came with early fame, the expectations he carried, and why his NBA career never fully reached the heights many predicted. He speaks candidly about decisions on and off the court, navigating the league at a young age, and how distractions, environment, and accountability played a role in his journey. This is more than a basketball story—it's a conversation about hype, hardship, accountability, and what it really means to pivot when life forces you to. Real talk. Real lessons. Real growth. Ben Barlow is the lead vocalist of Neck Deep — the Welsh pop-punk band formed in Wrexham in 2012 that's become one of Britain's biggest modern rock exports. Neck Deep are one of my favourite bandsIn this episode of Origin Story, we do it properly: in a skatepark — because skate culture and pop-punk aren't aesthetics… they're a philosophy. Ben talks about growing up in skateparks, why “living on your own terms” became his whole life assignment, and how the band went from posting “What Did You Expect?” online to global tours, viral hits, and over a billion streams. We go deep on authenticity vs trends, attention as currency, and why subculture feels like it's dying — then we zoom right in again: what fame does to young men, how Ben avoided the “rockstar trap,” and the real costs of life on the road (including the moments you miss that don't show up on Instagram). And then the episode turns into the stuff fans actually care about: the emotional engine behind the early songs, how Life's Not Out To Get You became a lifeline for people, and why Ben still believes human art cuts through even in an AI era. About Neck Deep:Neck Deep are a Welsh pop-punk band formed in Wrexham in 2012, originally sparked when Ben Barlow and guitarist Lloyd Roberts posted “What Did You Expect?” online — a DIY start that snowballed into a decade-plus career of major chart success and global touring. Their latest chapter includes the self-titled album Neck Deep (released Jan 19, 2024 via Hopeless Records), described by the band as a “return to roots” record made in-house with Ben's brother Seb involved in the process. Expect to learn:Why skateparks produce “no status games” — and what that teaches you about lifeThe real story of early Neck Deep: DIY beginnings, heartbreak fuel, instant traction Style vs substance (in skating and in music) — and why “being yourself” wins long-termAttention economy, trend culture, and why “effort” became social currencyFame, relationships, and how to stay grounded when your life goes nuclearWhy Life's Not Out To Get You hit so hard, and how Ben thinks about responsibility to fans AI, authenticity, and why human-made art still mattersInstagram: @davidmcintoshjrPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/davidmcintoshjr/aboutSubstack: https://substack.com/@davidmcintoshjr?Merch: https://originstoryclub.co.uk/NeutonicFor clean focus and productivity support: Neutonic.Use code DAVID for a discount.Link: https://www.neutonic.com?sca_ref=10212353.vP3Eab049B&utm_source=uppromote&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=263773

We did an intervention on Klein. His life in 2026 has been horrible and he's clearly cursed. In the end, he agreed to have a Santero come to his house for an energetic cleansing. We also pitted snowboarders and skiiers against each other in a Family Feud style battle for a trip to a resort in Breckeridge colorado. A heated discussion ensued over the most overrated tourist attractions as the Walk of Fame was named the biggest disappointment in America. Johnny tried Colombian Aguardiente as his drink-of-choice today, and said it tasted like Christmas ornaments. We had Jim Lindberg from Pennywise and Eloise Wang from the Linda Lindas in-studio to promote their new song WE ARE LA, raising funds for musicians who lost their possessions in the LA fires. We also had a new winner in another round of Generation Wars where people from Genx, Gen Z, Millennial and Boomers battle in a game of trivia to win bragging rights.
