Daily Devotions from Lutheran Hour Ministries

For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the Law but through the righteousness of faith. For if it is the adherents of the Law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. … That is why it depends on faith, in order that [God's] promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the Law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, and it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations …” [Abraham] did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah's womb. No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised. That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in Him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. (Romans 4:13-14, 16-17a, 19-25)

But this is more than a polite closing. It is a powerful reminder of who God is and how he comes to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Notice how each person of the Trinity is described. The Lord Jesus Christ brings grace. That’s not just a nice idea; it’s the undeserved love he showed by giving his life for sinners. His grace means your sins are forgiven, not because you earned it or improved yourself, but because he took your place. In Jesus, grace is not abstract. It is personal, costly, and complete. Then there is the love of God the Father, which is the source of it all. Before you ever knew him, before you ever sought him, he loved you. He planned your salvation, sent his Son, and continues to care for you as his own child. His love is not fickle or uncertain. It is steady, faithful, and eternal. And these blessings become yours through the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit brings you into a relationship with God. He works through the Word to create faith, to strengthen it, and to keep you connected to your Savior. You are not left to figure out your faith on your own. The Spirit is actively at work, drawing you closer to Christ and to one another. This blessing shows you that the triune God is not distant. He is involved. The Father loves you. The Son saves you. The Spirit stays with you. So, these words are not just for the end of a worship service. They are for the beginning of everything that follows. As you go into your week, into your responsibilities, your struggles, and your joys, this blessing goes with you. The grace, the love, and the fellowship of the triune God are not temporary. They are yours, today and always. Prayer: Be with me wherever I go, dear Lord, with all your blessings and kindness. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. Shawn Johnson graduated from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota, with a degree in Criminal Justice before earning his Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was immediately accepted into the FBI, trained at the FBI Academy, and assigned to the Seattle Division. There, he worked on the Green River Serial Murder investigation before joining the Violent Crimes Squad, where he investigated bank robberies, fugitives, interstate theft, extortions, and kidnappings. His legal background also led to service as Assistant Chief Division Counsel. Johnson later joined the National Security Squad, working counterterrorism and counterintelligence operations, including joint overseas investigations with the United States Army and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Returning to the Violent Crimes Squad, he played a key role in the Hollywood investigation, helped establish the Puget Sound Violent Crime Task Force, served as Bank Robbery Coordinator, and authored the Division's Bank Robbery Response Plan. After transferring to the Milwaukee Division's Madison Resident Agency, he focused on drug conspiracy investigations, employing sophisticated surveillance techniques that contributed to major takedowns of drug organizations in Chicago and Madison. Following 9/11, he managed the newly established Madison Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), overseeing federal and local efforts to investigate international terrorism. Johnson later returned to the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, where he instructed new agents in criminal investigations, counterterrorism investigations, and Human Intelligence (HUMINT). His final FBI assignment was with the Directorate of Intelligence, training agents in HUMINT policy and procedures. Upon retiring from the FBI, he founded Wolf & Owl LLC, where he continues to train FBI personnel in support of the Bureau's mission to protect the United States. Steven Meyers was the partner and principal accomplice of Scott Scurlock, better known as "Hollywood," the notorious bank robber responsible for a string of high-profile bank heists in the Seattle area during the 1990s. Over the course of four and a half years, Meyers worked closely with Scurlock and their crew in planning and executing 19 bank robberies that resulted in the theft of more than $2.3 million. Beyond participating in the operation, Meyers helped develop the plans, create disguises, and support the methods that allowed the crew to evade law enforcement for years. Meyers and Scurlock were deeply involved in every aspect of the enterprise, including planning operations, laundering money, and acquiring vehicles and equipment. As Scurlock's closest collaborator, Meyers gained a unique understanding of the man behind the "Hollywood" persona and the motivations that drove one of the Pacific Northwest's most infamous crime sprees. In 2023, Meyers was featured in the Netflix documentary *How to Rob a Bank*, providing firsthand insight into the robberies and the inner workings of the crew. Today, he joins retired FBI Special Agent Shawn Johnson—the lead investigator who helped solve the case—to share the untold stories behind the Hollywood robberies and offer perspectives from both sides of one of the most remarkable bank robbery investigations in modern history.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

[07:38] — Are organizations paralyzed by too much data? Sebastian explains why collecting more data is often a way of avoiding the harder, more courageous work of challenging your own assumptions. [09:39] — What "data-driven" actually means in practice and why it's harder than it sounds. Sebastian introduces the "data deficit theory" and draws on 50 years of psychological research showing that data often hardens our existing beliefs rather than changing them. [13:45] — The Charles Barkley moment: what a legendary NBA star's skepticism about data analysts gets right and wrong about using data in sports and business. [16:03] — How data is collected and used in modern organizations, and why the real challenge isn't gathering data; it's organizing it. (Yes, there's a "data swamp" warning here.) [18:00] — Why the classic 8-step decision-making model is a myth. Sebastian explains what monkey brain research and animal herds reveal about how decisions are actually made and what that means for how you introduce data into the process. [22:36] — Goodhart's Law and the GE cautionary tale: the dangerous difference between steering metrics and success metrics, and what happens when leaders confuse the two. [25:38] — The decision-making spectrum: from fully automated machine-learning decisions to pure gut instinct and how Netflix found the sweet spot between data and human judgment. [30:17] — AI vs. machine learning: why we're wired to trust the type of automated decision-making that's actually less reliable and what that means for your organization right now. [33:34] — Data fatigue is real. Sebastian introduces two archetypes, the Dashboard Director and the Data Diver, and explains why you need both to build a truly innovative organization. [36:31] — A peek into Part 5: The Toolbox, with practical checklists, workshop formats, and tried-and-tested methods developed over 20 years of real-world data projects. [39:03] — Closing wisdom: why copying what successful companies did is a trap, and what it really takes to lead transformative change with data, including the courage to slow down before you speed up. https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260602dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:26-27 God Speaks About Himself in the Plural It’s a small detail, but it makes you stop and think: “Let us make… in our image.” From the very beginning, God speaks of himself in the plural. This is not confusion or contradiction. It is a quiet glimpse into the mystery Christians later confess in more detail. The one true God is triune: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Here, already in creation, the triune God is at work together. And what is the result of this divine counsel? Humanity. You were not an after-thought or an accident. You were created intentionally, personally, and wonderfully. The triune God crafted human beings in his own image, capable of knowing him, reflecting his holiness, and living in perfect relationship with him and with one another. But when we look at ourselves and our world, something feels off. The image is cracked and distorted. Sin has broken what God made perfect. Instead of reflecting God’s holiness, we often reflect selfishness, pride, and fear. Instead of living in harmony, we experience division and pain. Yet the triune God did not abandon what he made. The Father sent his Son into the world. Jesus Christ, the eternal Son, is called “the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15). Where we have failed to reflect God, he does so perfectly. He lives the life we could not live and dies the death we deserved, restoring what was broken. And the Holy Spirit continues God’s creative work even now. Through the gospel, he renews hearts and reshapes lives, restoring the image of God within us. What was shattered is being made whole again. So, when you hear God say, “Let us make,” remember that this same triune God is still speaking and still working. You are not forgotten or without purpose. You were created by God, redeemed by God, and are being renewed by God. Prayer: Thank you, triune God, for your continuing work in me. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. What does it really mean when scripture says that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever? In this throwback solo episode, Megan Farner explores one of the most misunderstood phrases in scripture and challenges the common assumption that "the same" means "unchanging." Drawing from the King Follett Discourse, Lectures on Faith, the Book of Mormon, and broader spiritual principles, she examines how God's consistency may be rooted in perfect obedience to eternal law rather than the absence of growth or progression. Topics include: The true nature and character of God  Joseph Smith's teachings on eternal progression  The King Follett Discourse  Faith as a principle of power  The doctrine of Christ and spiritual transformation  Eternal laws, agency, miracles, and divine potential  What it means to become more like God If you've ever wrestled with questions about God's nature, eternal progression, or the relationship between faith and spiritual growth, this episode offers a thought-provoking perspective.Subscribe for more conversations on scripture, spiritual development, temple symbolism, and the path of discipleship.Timestamps00:00 Introduction 00:15 What Does "God Is the Same" Mean? 02:04 Why Understanding God's Nature Matters 06:00 The Problem with "Unchanging" Interpretations 07:05 Joseph Smith on God's Progression 10:47 God and Eternal Law 13:53 The Law of Gender & Divine Partnership 15:31 Polarity, Opposition, and Creation 19:25 Symbolism and the Law of Correspondence 21:59 Thoughts, Agency, and the Law of Attraction 24:40 Faith as a Principle of Power 27:27 Cause and Effect: The Law of the Harvest 29:01 Rhythm, Cycles, and the Doctrine of Christ 29:59 Consecration and the Law of Abundance 31:36 Oneness, Zion, and Atonement 33:03 Scriptural Evidence for God's Consistency 38:25 God as a God of Miracles 43:00 Faith, Repentance, and Spiritual Alignment 44:47 No Variableness, Neither Shadow of Changing 47:42 The Counterfeits of Eternal Law 55:51 Learning to Become Like God 58:16 Divine Potential and Co-Equality with God 01:00:28 Temple Covenants and Eternal Laws 01:01:24 Final Thoughts If you feel called to better understand and embody your divine femininity, consider if our next cohort of Return to the Garden is for you! The Law Firm Leadership Podcast | We Interview Corp Defense Law Firm Leaders, Partners, General Counsel and Legal Consultants

When permanent capital, AI disruption, and a rapidly fracturing talent market collide inside the legal industry, the old rules for how law firms grow, get funded, and build their next generation of lawyers stop making sense.   David Perla, Vice Chair of Burford Capital, joins hosts Chris Batz and Howard Rosenberg to break down why permanent capital is a fundamentally different proposition than traditional private equity for boutiques and founder-controlled firms ready to grow, and why the AmLaw 100 is unlikely to move anytime soon.   The more urgent conversation is about what neither capital nor strategy can fully solve. Law firm leaders are making multi-year associate class decisions without any reliable sense of what their workforce looks like in twelve months. Startups that needed fifty people eighteen months ago now run on seven or eight. The associate pipeline, in-house departments, recruiting timelines: all of it is under pressure that is accelerating faster than most leaders want to admit.   Perla's advice is deceptively simple. Get curious. Ask hard questions of people who think differently. The firms that navigate this moment well are the ones willing to challenge assumptions before the market forces the issue.   Episode Breakdown: 00:00 Introduction: David Perla, Vice Chair of Burford Capital 06:05 Building Pangea3 and Pioneering Legal Outsourcing 12:51 How Burford Capital Invests in the Legal Industry 23:44 Where Private Capital Is Heading in Law Firm Investment 29:51 AI, Legal Talent, and the Associate Pipeline Crisis 39:23 Legal Tech Valuations and the Coming Shakeout 46:06 Advice for Law Firm Leaders Navigating Disruption Links Connect with David Perla: Company Bio: https://www.burfordcapital.com/about-us/our-team/david-perla/  LinkedIn Profile link: https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidperla/   Connect with Howard Rosenberg: LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hrosenberg/ Company web profile: https://www.baretzbrunelle.com/howard-rosenberg   Connect with Chris Batz: Connect with Chris on LinkedIn  Follow Columbus Street on LinkedIn Columbus Street Website  MergerWatch Website Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

This episode examines a case that sits at the uneasy boundary between criminal adjudication, media power, and moral authority: the prosecution and execution of Aileen Wuornos, labeled the “first female serial killer. We look at two documentaries by Nick Broomfield—Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer (1992) and Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003)—alongside the feature film Monster (2003), written and directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Charlize Theron in an Oscar-winning role. Broomfield's documentaries are less about guilt or innocence than about process: who controls the narrative, how legal representation operates, and what happens when a defendant's life becomes an object of transaction, between lawyers, media, and the public. The films also penetrate the issues around the application of the death penalty in the United States, and the problems that arise when the state seeks to executive individuals who are themselves victims and suffer from severe mental illness. Monster  approaches the same facts through dramatization. It also raises important questions, including how far context should matter in judging criminal responsibility and construction of narratives around crimes.Timestamps:0:00   Introduction2:58   Capturing law on film5:24   The two Nick Broomfield documentaries11:16   Addressing Aileen Wuornos's murders14:04  The flawed defense strategy18:47  The depiction of Tyria Moore (Aileen Wuornos's girlfriend20:55  Selling the Aileen Wuornos story23:09  The theme of the “monster”28:29  Themes of betrayal and self-defense31:53   Nick Broomfield and an outsider view of the American legal system34:56  Mental illness and the death penalty37:39  Media coverage of sensational murders 39:22  Failures of the legal process44:26  A critique of the death penalty47:00  Exoticization in the filmsFurther Reading: Cavanaugh, L. https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260601dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. Genesis 1:1-3 All Three Persons at the Beginning Before anything existed, God was already there. He did not emerge from the darkness. He spoke into it. With nothing but his powerful word, he brought everything into being. These opening words of the Bible remind us that creation is not random or accidental. It is intentional, ordered, and purposeful because it comes from God himself. And already here, at the very beginning, we see the mystery and beauty of the Trinity. The Father is the Creator, the one who wills and designs. The Spirit of God is hovering over the waters, present and active, sustaining and preparing. And the Son is the One through whom all things are made. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together bring light into darkness. That matters more than it might seem at first. The same triune God who created light out of darkness is the one who speaks into the darkness of our lives. There are times when life feels formless and empty, when sin, guilt, or uncertainty leave us without direction or hope. Left to ourselves, we cannot create light. We cannot fix what is broken. But God still speaks. Just as surely as he said, “Let there be light,” he has spoken again to us in his Word. In Jesus, the living Word, God steps into our darkness. He brings forgiveness where there is guilt, life where there is death, and clarity where there is confusion. The Spirit continues to hover, working through the Word to create faith in hearts that were once empty. So, when your world feels chaotic or empty, remember where everything began. Not with darkness, but with God. And where God speaks, light always follows. Prayer: Lord God, thank you for putting me into this world you have created. Continue to bless me with the promises of your holy Word. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. Welcome, gorgeous souls, to Episode 434 of Aligned Abundance! ✨In this episode, I'm diving into something I feel so passionate about: authenticity. Not just as a concept, but as a vibration and why being truly, unapologetically yourself is the only energy that will manifest your deepest desires. After a powerful download at the Chalice Well in Glastonbury, I realised how much of modern life has become performative. We view sacred moments through our phones, outsource our power to comparison and AI, and chase goals that aren't even ours. And all of it slowly disconnects us from the very vibration that attracts abundance. In this episode, I'm sharing:Why authenticity is the root of manifestation (and why you can't fake it to the Universe)How comparison and the need for external validation keeps you out of alignmentThe link between ego, value and why we perform our lives rather than live themHow to give yourself permission to express your authentic self, starting right now This is your invitation to slow down, come back to yourself and trust that your authentic energy is more than enough

Indexed Universal Life Insurance Is Not for Everyone: Who Should Not Buy an IUL

    The Money Advantage Podcast

IUL gets pitched to young professionals, families, business owners, retirees, and pretty much everyone in between. The message is always consistent: this product can solve your financial problems, provide market upside with downside protection, and generate tax-free retirement income. One product, all things to all people. For most people, IUL is the wrong tool entirely. Not because it's fraudulent. Not because it can't work for anyone. But because there's a fundamental mismatch between how it's sold and who it actually serves. And that mismatch shows up in the data.  https://youtu.be/fZS1uPmsCS0 According to a 2021 study by Gottlieb and Smetters, published in the American Economic Review (1) and drawing on SOA and LIMRA persistency data, nearly 88% of universal life policies never pay a death benefit. That figure covers all universal life products, including IUL.  And IUL was built specifically to fix the lapse problems of earlier UL products. It hasn't. The chassis is the problem. This article is a profile-by-profile look at the people who should not buy an IUL, the data that supports why, and a fair look at the narrow group for whom it might make sense. We're not taking sides. We're giving you the information you need to make a decision that actually fits your life. Key Takeaways:What IUL Actually Is, and Why the Chassis MattersThe One-Year Renewable Term ProblemWho Should Not Buy an IUL PolicyAnyone who hasn't mastered the financial basicsAnyone who needs guarantees and predictabilityAnyone practicing or planning Infinite BankingAnyone without a high, stable, long-term incomeAnyone who cannot handle the lapse riskAnyone who misunderstands what market risk means in an IULAnyone building a multi-generational legacyThe Data Nobody Shows You Before You SignThe Headline NumbersA Pattern That Keeps RepeatingTo Be Fair: Who IUL Actually ServesThe Right Buyer ProfileThe Alternative Built for the Rest of UsWhy Endowment MattersThe Reduced Paid-Up Safety NetBehavioral FitThe Decision Is Yours: Make It With the Full PictureBook a Strategy CallFrequently Asked QuestionsWho should not buy an IUL policy? Is IUL worth it for most people? What is the lapse rate for IUL policies?Who is IUL actually designed for? What is the difference between IUL and whole life for banking purposes? Can I use IUL for Infinite Banking? Key Takeaways: IUL is built on a one-year renewable term chassis, meaning internal insurance costs rise every single year as the policyholder ages Nearly 88% of universal life policies (including IUL) never pay a death benefit, with 57% of permanent policies (particularly universal life) lapsing in the first 10 years IUL cannot endow and cannot be converted to reduced paid-up status, meaning premiums are required indefinitely The product demands a level of behavioral consistency over 30 to 40 years that most people, including the most disciplined, cannot sustain IUL is not compatible with Infinite Banking because it lacks the guaranteed, predictable cash value growth the strategy requires The narrow group IUL actually serves is sophisticated, high-net-worth individuals using it specifically for estate planning leverage What IUL Actually Is, and Why the Chassis Matters Indexed universal life insurance is a form of permanent life insurance where cash value growth is linked to a market index, typically the S&P 500.  The policyholder isn't actually invested in the market. The insurance company credits growth based on index performance, subject to a cap (the maximum you can earn) and a floor (usually 0%). You participate in some of the upside. You're protected from direct index losses. That's the pitch. The One-Year Renewable Term Problem The structural reality is different from the marketing version. Unlike whole life insurance, which spreads insurance costs evenly across a lifetime so the premium never changes, IUL is built on a one-year renewable term chassis. That means the cost of insurance increases every single year as the insured ages. In the early years, you barely notice. Over decades, and especially in retirement, it becomes a serious structural pressure on the policy's cash value. The flexible premium feature, often marketed as a benefit, is part of the same structural reality. Flexibility sounds good. But it means the policy requires ongoing management and can deteriorate if premiums are reduced or skipped.  The policy doesn't just sit there working for you. It demands attention, funding, and active monitoring year after year. For a deeper look at the structural risks, internal charges, and illustration problems with IUL, see our posts on the dangerous truths about IUL risks and Todd Langford's analysis of IUL math. Who Should Not Buy an IUL Policy This is the core question. Not "is IUL good or bad?" but "is the person buying it actually a match for what the product demands?" Seven profiles. If you recognize yourself in any of them, that's information worth taking seriously. Anyone who hasn't mastered the financial basics IUL is an advanced financial product. It should not be anyone's first or second financial move. Before using a structure that combines insurance, investing, and tax planning, a person needs the basics in place: spending less than they earn, building consistent positive cash flow, and saving habitually. Parkinson's Law, the tendency for expenses to rise to meet income at every level, is real. IUL does not fix a cash flow problem. It adds complexity on top of one. If you haven't overcome the basic discipline of keeping your income above your expenses and putting the gap into savings, a complex product isn't a solution. It's a distraction from the actual problem. Anyone who needs guarantees and predictability If you need to know with certainty what your policy will be worth in 10, 20, or 30 years, IUL cannot give you that. There is no guaranteed cash value dollar amount in an IUL. The crediting depends on index performance, caps that can change annually, and internal costs that increase over time. If your financial planning requires a predictable future asset base for retirement, a major capital need, or a legacy strategy, a product built on variables is the wrong foundation. The middle class, upper middle class, and anyone with fluctuating income fall into this category. And that's most people. Anyone practicing or planning Infinite Banking IUL is actively marketed as a vehicle for Infinite Banking. It is not.  Infinite Banking requires a pool of capital that is predictable, guaranteed, and always growing. The arbitrage that makes policy loans powerful, earning in two places at once, only works when the policy's growth is reliable. In a year where the index earns zero, a policy loan doesn't just cost the loan interest. It costs the loan interest with no offsetting policy growth.  The banking system breaks down exactly when it should be working hardest. For a full breakdown, see our post on why IUL is incompatible with Infinite Banking. Anyone without a high, stable, long-term income IUL requires consistent, maximum funding over a very long time horizon to have any chance of performing as illustrated. Life disruptions like job changes, business downturns, family expenses, and medical costs interrupt premium payments. And because the policy relies on the index to help fund its own rising costs, any gap in funding creates a cascade effect that's very difficult to reverse. Even Nelson Nash, the creator of Infinite Banking, once missed funding PUAs on one of his own policies, causing the rider to close. If the creator of the strategy had trouble keeping up with premiums, the expectation that ordinary policyholders will fund an IUL perfectly for 30 to 40 years is unrealistic. Anyone who cannot handle the lapse risk Nearly 88% of universal life policies never pay a death benefit, and IUL is part of that picture. That number should stop anyone from considering this product and make them ask: why?  The answer is structural. Rising internal costs, non-guaranteed crediting, and the behavioral reality of managing a complex financial product over decades. And lapsing isn't just losing the policy. When a policy lapses with outstanding loans and cash value above the cost basis (the total premiums paid), the gain is treated as taxable ordinary income in the year of lapse. That tax bill arrives at the worst possible time, often in retirement, when income is fixed and absorbing it is most painful. Anyone who misunderstands what market risk means in an IUL Many buyers hear "zero is your floor" and believe their money is protected from losses. This is technically true and practically misleading. The 0% floor only protects against index-linked losses. It does not protect against the internal drag of rising mortality costs, administrative fees, and hedging strategy expenses, all of which continue to come out of the cash value regardless of what the index does. A zero-credit year is effectively a negative year once internal charges are factored in. And when markets perform poorly over multiple years, the insurance company's cost of maintaining those hedges rises. They respond by lowering caps. Lower caps mean less upside potential. This cycle of poor performance, higher hedge costs, and lower caps compounds over time. Anyone building a multi-generational legacy Legacy planning requires certainty across decades and generations. A policy that cannot endow, cannot be converted to reduced paid-up status, and requires active management indefinitely is not a reliable foundation for generational wealth transfer. Whole life policies endow at age 120 or 121. The cash value and death benefit converge, and the policy is contractually complete. IUL policies do not endow. Premiums are required for as long as the insured lives. There is no actuarial endpoint.  ...

Send Us Your Questions/CommentsA split second can change how you see everything, and Luke 9 gives us one of those moments. Jesus goes up a mountain to pray with Peter, James, and John, and while He's praying, His face and clothing blaze with a kind of radiant glory the disciples cannot manufacture or explain. Then Moses and Elijah appear and start talking with Him, not about comfort or success, but about His coming “departure” at Jerusalem. Even in glory, the cross stays central. We take time to read the passage closely and connect the dots Luke expects you to notice: why the Transfiguration comes right after Peter's confession that Jesus is the Christ, why “about eight days” is not a contradiction with the other Gospels, and why the Bible keeps linking mountains, prayer, and revelation. We also dig into the meaning of Moses and Elijah showing up as the Law and the Prophets, and why the word “departure” can carry the weight of “exodus,” pointing to Jesus as the true deliverer from sin. Then comes the line that lands on all of us: the Father speaks from the cloud and says, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him.” We talk honestly about how easy it is to be half-awake spiritually, how quickly we can chase the mountaintop feeling, and why Luke immediately brings us down the mountain into the crowd where real ministry happens. If you want a deeper, clearer view of Jesus and a more grounded picture of Christian discipleship, press play. In this sermon from Romans 7, we explore one of the most relatable struggles in the Christian life: the battle between our desire to serve God and the reality of our ongoing struggle with sin.Paul reminds us that the Law reveals God's holiness and exposes our sin, but it cannot save us. Even the most faithful believers experience an inner conflict between the flesh and the spirit. The good news is that our hope is not found in perfect rule-keeping, but in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.Key themes include: The purpose of God's Law  Why sin is "utterly sinful"  Paul's personal struggle in Romans 7  Freedom from legalism and self-righteousness  The power of Christ to deliver us from sin "Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
