When you understand how a person thinks, speaks, acts, and sees the world, you feel like you know that person. This is true whether you have spent time with them, or if you have spent time with them through the magic of modern media.Television, radio, and social media can be used to make sure that people know about you, or they can be used to make people feel like they know you.I have written a 4-stanza poem from the perspective of 3 different personalities. The story arc is the same for all 3 poems. The 4-verse, 4 stanza structure is the same. The rhyming conventions are very similar. The only real difference is that these short poems reveal the hearts of 3 different people; their perspectives, their attitudes, their personalities. My partner Gene Naftulyev directed the singers who turned these poems into blues songs. You can read the song lyrics in the text of the Monday Morning Memo, or you can listen to the songs in the audio version of the memo. These are the words to the first poem, and the song that was created from it:The faster I go, the more I fall behind. The map is fading in my mind.Landmarks are not where they were before. And cars don't stop at red lights anymore.I don't want to be unkind andMake innocent people feel malignedBut are all the gas pedals nailed to the floor? Why don't cars stop at red lights anymore? Are these people colorblind? Are their panties in a bind? Are we fighting in a war?Why don't we stop at red lights anymore? Is there an evil mastermindWho is making us feel that we are falling behind?Perhaps we can dangle him in an intersectionAnd see if he gets a new sense of direction.© Roy H. Williams Oct. 18, 2025The singer of this song seems to be lamenting the loss of leisure. We perceive that he is troubled by the spiraling tyranny of the merely urgent. He doesn't want to be unkind. His questions about the red-light runners being “colorblind,” or “having their panties in a bind” reveals a comedic wit. We sympathize with him. We agree with him. We like him.Now let's tell that same story two more times using exactly the same structure, rhyming scheme, and storytelling devices. The only difference between that first poem and the next two poems will be the differing perspectives of the storytellers.I do not pretend to be a counselor-at-law,Or a judge, or a jury from Arkansas,But my heart does whisper this probing question:“When did people stop stopping at intersections?”We heard the words of Moses and foresawThat we would need to be a nation of Laws. But Moses did not give us “The 10 Suggestions.”So why did people stop stopping at intersections?Do you have a tragic flaw?Do you look good in-the-raw?If you want resurrection,You need to start stopping at intersections.Do you want sex appeal that makes ice thaw?Do you want people to look at you with awe?Do you want to achieve absolute perfection?Just hit your brakes at the next intersection.© Roy H. Williams, Oct 20, 2025That singer has a slightly more antagonistic attitude. His references to Moses and the Law reveal him to be more legalistic than the first singer. His additional comments about “counselor-at-law,” “nation of laws,” “resurrection” and “perfection” reveal the kind of black-and-white clarity that can result from a strict religious upbringing. We cannot be certain of these things, but we suspect them.
Dhanji R. Prasanna is the chief technology officer at Block (formerly Square), where he's managed more than 4,000 engineers over the past two years. Under his leadership, Block has become one of the most AI-native large companies in the world. Before becoming CTO, Dhanji wrote an “AI manifesto” to CEO Jack Dorsey that sparked a company-wide transformation (and his promotion to CTO).We discuss:1. How Block's internal open-source agent, called Goose, is saving employees 8 to 10 hours weekly2. How the company measures AI productivity gains across technical and non-technical teams3. Which teams are benefiting most from AI (it's not engineering)4. The boring organizational change that boosted productivity even more than AI tools5. Why code quality has almost nothing to do with product success6. How to drive AI adoption throughout an organization (hint: leadership needs to use the tools daily)7. Read OnlineBut the leader of the synagogue, indignant that Jesus had cured on the sabbath, said to the crowd in reply, “There are six days when work should be done. Come on those days to be cured, not on the sabbath day.” The Lord said to him in reply, “Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger and lead it out for watering?” Luke 13:14–15Why would the leader of the synagogue be “indignant” that Jesus cured a woman on the sabbath? She was crippled for eighteen years! Imagine, especially, her family. They would have seen her many years of suffering and shared them with her through years of compassion. If they were present when Jesus healed her on the sabbath, would they have immediately thought, “How dare Jesus do this healing of our mother, wife or sister on the sabbath?” Of course not! They would have rejoiced and been filled with awe, gratitude, and even tears. This normal reaction that her family would have had upon witnessing this miracle is the right response. And, of course, the reaction of the leader of the synagogue was deeply disordered. Why would this leader of the synagogue do such a thing? Though he and many other scribes, Sadducess, Pharisees and scholars of the law struggled with envy and hypocrisy, others may sometimes react similarly to this leader of the synagogue for other reasons. One such reason is scrupulosity.Scrupulosity is the tendency to see God and His holy will through the lens of legalism. “Legalism” is not just being faithful to the Law of God, because that is a good thing. Legalism is a misinterpretation of God's Law by which one tends to put more emphasis upon themselves than upon God. A scrupulous person is preoccupied with themself. They tend to be far more concerned with sin than with God Himself. And though it's vital to be concerned with sin, when fear of sinning becomes a form of obsession, then that obsession has the effect of clouding the pure will of God and leaves a person heavily burdened and unable to joyfully live out the authentic will of God.Saint Thérèse of Lisieux was one saint who openly shared her struggles with scrupulosity in her autobiography. Of this struggle, which she referred to as “oversensitivity,” she said, “One would have to pass through this martyrdom to understand it well, and for me to express what I experienced for a year and a half would be impossible.” However, she eventually experienced what she called a “complete conversion” by which the heavy burden of oversensitivity was lifted. Though this oversensitivity oppressed her in various ways, one way it affected her was that she feared that even some of her random thoughts were mortal sins and that she would be condemned for them.Though the leader of the synagogue was most likely not struggling with “oversensitivity” in the same way as Saint Thérèse, he was acting with an extreme scrupulosity which led him to be harshly judgmental and condemning of our Lord for His good deed done to this crippled woman.Reflect, today, upon any tendency you may have with these heavy burdens. Do you worry in an irrational way about sin? Do you ever find yourself obsessing over decisions, worrying that you may make the wrong one? Do you think about yourself far more than you think about God and others? If so, you may also be carrying a similar heavy burden that our Lord wants to lift. Serving God and His holy will must become the deepest joy of our lives, not a heavy burden. If you find your Christian walk more of a burden, then turn your eyes away from yourself and look to the merciful God. Run to Him with the utmost confidence of a child, as Saint Thérèse eventually did, and allow yourself to love Him more authentically, freed of scrupulous and self-imposed burdens. My merciful Lord, You desire to free me from all that burdens me. You desire that I turn to You with the confidence of a child. Please do free me, dear Lord, from any way that I impose burdens upon myself by my obsessions and irrational worries. May I always understand Your infinite love for me and always walk freely and joyfully in Your ways. Jesus, I trust in You.Image: Museo Nacional de Arte, Public domain, via Wikimedia CommonsSource of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Freedom is a precious gift...
Brandon Swanson, a 19-year-old college student from Minnesota, vanished on May 14, 2008, after his car got stuck in a ditch while he was driving home from a night out with friends. Believing he was near the town of Lynd, Brandon called his parents for help, but despite his directions, they couldn't locate him. Frustrated, he decided to walk toward nearby lights he thought were in Lynd, keeping his father on the phone. Just after 2:30 a.m., he exclaimed, “Oh, shit!” and the line went silent—his last known words. The next day, authorities discovered that Brandon was actually near Porter, about 20 miles from where he believed he was. His car was found, but searches of the surrounding area, including the Yellow Medicine River, revealed no trace of him. Despite extensive searches and numerous theories—including accidental drowning, hypothermia, or foul play—no definitive evidence has surfaced. His parents, devastated by his disappearance, advocated for “Brandon's Law,” which mandates that Minnesota law enforcement treat adult missing person cases with urgency. To this day, the mystery remains unsolved, with his family and the community still holding out hope for closure, haunted by his chilling last words and the lingering mystery of his fate.(commercial at 7:08)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

In this Scene Missing panel, we dive deep into the 1972 made-for-TV movie Gargoyles — a cult classic that helped define the early wave of '70s creature features. Joining the discussion are Gabriel Hardman, Jeff Parker, Ian Brill, and Allison Baker, each bringing their sharp insight into the film's production, themes, and its influence on modern genre storytelling. The panel explores the film's eerie desert setting and its surprising critical success, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Makeup that launched the career of Stan Winston, who went on to create the iconic creatures of Aliens and Predator. We spotlight the performances of Cornel Wilde as anthropologist Mercer Boley, Jennifer Salt (Sisters, Soap) as his daughter Diana, and Bernie Casey as the noble Gargoyle leader — one of television's earliest sympathetic monster roles. We also examine the creative team behind the movie: director Bill L. Norton, later known for Cisco Pike and Law & Order, and writer-producers Steve and Elinor Karpf, who blended mythology, horror, and social reflection into an unexpectedly thoughtful TV thriller.
When I found out Tony Goldwyn was going to be a guest, I knew my first ten questions were going to be about “Law and Order.” I'm an obsessed fan, so I wanted to find out everything I could about what it was like for him to join this TV institution. Tony also talks with me about the new podcast he records with his daughter, Anna, called “Far from the Tree.” On it, they talk with other parents and children who work in the same field. In addition, Tony and I really connected over what it was like for us getting into show business with famous last names. This is another Hurrdat Media Production. John explains how his new book goes beyond the sensationalistic headlines and explores the human side and complexity of four men who have been convicted of murder. This week the Battle Royale Bash features 2 returning guests, a millennial, an elite cross country runner, and a Randomizer crossover.
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure of infinite worth. Jesus' parables reveal the supreme value of Christ and His Gospel; He is the treasure who gave up everything to purchase the field (the world) for the sake of His people. When Jesus offers up this priceless treasure, he is rejected in His own hometown, a stark reminder that the saving power of the Gospel is lost where unbelief holds sway. The Rev. Steven Theiss, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells, MO, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Matthew 13:44-58. The Gospel of Matthew bridges Old and New Testaments, presenting Jesus as the promised Messiah who fulfills the Law we could never keep and establishes His kingdom of grace for all nations. Written by a tax collector transformed by pure grace, Matthew reveals Christ as the true Son of David and Emmanuel (God with us) who challenges us with the crushing demands of the Law in His Sermon on the Mount to the sweet comfort of the Gospel in His death and resurrection. From royal genealogy to glorious resurrection, this verse-by-verse study proclaims the One who conquered sin, death, and the devil for us, now delivering forgiveness, life, and salvation through Word and Sacrament as He remains with His church always, even to the end of the age. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. In a landmark ruling back in 1968, the Supreme Court ruled in Terry v. Ohio, that it is constitutional for police to "stop and frisk" a person they reasonably suspect to be armed and involved in a crime. Over the years this ruling has been criticized, with many saying that this decision leads to an abuse of power by police and racial profiling. On this episode of Lawyer 2 Lawyer, Craig joins Aliza Hochman Bloom, assistant professor of law at Northeastern University School of Law, as they spotlight traffic criminal law. Craig & Aliza take a look at traffic stops, Terry stops (Terry v. Ohio), the constitutionality of policing, the 4th Amendment, and what rights an individual has when pulled over by law enforcement. Mentioned in this Episode: Terry V. Ohio
Donald Trump had his unqualified US Attorney - Lindsey Halligan vindictively indict New York Attorney General Letitia James on what appears to be trumped-up back fraud charges. In a bizarre new development, Halligan reached out to reported Anna Bowen on a disappearing Signal chat app and discussed aspects of the James matter. In a recurring series called The Prosecutors' Verdict, Glenn sits down with former career prosecutor Kevin Flynn to discuss this strange development, and preview James' first court appearance - the arraignment.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Several Senate Republicans have now stood up to Donald Trump by REJECTING his nominee to head up the Office of Special Counsel. This is the second time in recent weeks Senate Republicans have said no to Trump nominees. Moreover, even Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has broken from Trump over the release of the Epstein files and the need for affordable health care. These are clear and compelling signs that Trump is getting weaker by the day. His Hebrew name is Jacob. He was a close kinsman of Christ, and was therefore called, according to the Jewish usage of the time, his "brother." Some accounts say that he was a child of Joseph by his first marriage; others accounts say that he was the son of Joseph's brother Cleopas and his wife Mary, who was first cousin of the Theotokos. He took the Nazirite vows of one completely consecrated to God according to the Law, and from a young age he was called "the Just" by his people. He is called James the Lesser in Scripture (Mark 15:40) to distinguish him from James the son of Zebedee, who is called the Greater. The Apostles appointed him first Bishop of Jerusalem. It was he who presided at the earliest Council of the Church in Jerusalem, where he resolved the problem of how gentile converts should be received into the Church (see Acts 15). He wrote the New Testament Epistle, addressed primarily to Jewish converts to the Faith, that bears his name. About the year 62, he ascended to the peak of the Temple in Jerusalem on Passover, and there bore witness to Christ so effectively that the people cried out "Hosanna to the Son of David." At this, the Scribes and Pharisees, fearing that all the people would be converted to Christ, cast him down to the ground. By God's grace, he survived long enough to rise, kneel and pray, like his Master, "Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do." He was then clubbed to death by one of the scribes.
Since the start of September, President Donald Trump has ordered a series of lethal strikes on boats in the Caribbean Sea, killing dozens of people. His administration has justified the attacks by accusing the boats of carrying drugs. But, we're more than two months in, and we still haven't seen any substantial evidence that the people killed were involved in trafficking narcotics. Meanwhile, Trump appears to be focused on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, and last week, Trump acknowledged he authorized the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela. So, to talk more about Venezuela and the legality- or lack thereof- of the Trump administration's ongoing campaign in the Caribbean Sea, we spoke with Tess Bridgeman, co-editor-in-chief of Just Security and Senior Fellow and Visiting Scholar at the Reiss Center on Law and Security at NYU School of Law. She previously served as Special Assistant to the President, Associate Counsel to the President, and Deputy Legal Adviser to the National Security Council (NSC), and at the U.S. State Department in the Office of the Legal Adviser. And in headlines, Vice President JD Vance visits Israel as Hamas continues to return the bodies of hostages, ICE recruits are going up against fitness testing, and the government is as shutdown as ever.Show Notes:Check out Tess's work – justsecurity.org/author/bridgemantess/Call Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Donald Trump's US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, failed to convince three grand juries to bring felony charges against a woman named Sydney Lori Reid for allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer during immigration enforcement operations. Undeterred by the grand jury's repeated rejection of criminal charges, Pirro directed her prosecutors to charge Ms. Reid with a misdemeanor crime. In a direct repudiation of Pirro's prosecutorial overreach, a jury - sitting as the conscience of the community, - has found Ms. Reid NOT GUILTY! This result reinforces that, whether it's 23 people in a private grand jury room, 12 people in a jury box in a public courtroom, or seven million people in the streets of American protesting against Trump's tyranny, IT IS THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE POWER!
