Welcome to Once More, With Spoilers, where Kristin Russo & Jenny Owen Youngs revisit every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one at a time — for the SECOND time! — this time discussing each episode with spoilers! The eggs are here and they are NOT GOOD, folks! In addition to Kristin's horror at the skittering offspring in Buffy's bedroom and Jenny's horror at Kristin's request to be called "Mama Bezoar," we also chat about sex & responsibility, the arrival of the Gorch Brothers (!), and how we were forged in the fiery crucible that was the mall of the nineties. It's S2E12: Bad Eggs. The Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan (“The Crying Game”, “Interview with The Vampire”) is also an author of several novels. Jordan has recently released an autobiographical work called “Amnesiac: A Memoir” (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2024) which is currently available where books are sold. In this vivid, moving and strange memoir, Neil Jordan – the author of classic fiction like “The Past”, “Sunrise with Sea Monster” and “Night in Tunisia”, and the creator of celebrated movies like “Angel,” “Mona Lisa,” “The Crying Game” and “Interview with the Vampire” – reaches deep into his own past and that of his family. His mother was a painter, his father an inspector of schools who was visited by ghosts, and Jordan grew up on the edge of an abandoned aristocratic estate in north Dublin whose mysterious ruins fed his imagination. Passionate about music, he played in bands and theatre groups and met, at University College Dublin, a young radical called Jim Sheridan. Together they staged unforgettable dramatic productions that hinted at their future careers. His first collection of stories and first novel, “Night in Tunisia” and “The Past”, were met with acclaim, but Jordan was also drawn to the freedom and visual richness of film, and worked with the great English director John Boorman on his Arthurian epic “Excalibur”. His own first movie with Stephen Rea, “Angel”, was a brilliant angular take on the horrific violence of the Troubles, and in the years since then his films have combined in a unique way, intense supernatural elements with reflections on violence and sexuality. Jordan describes his work with Stephen Rea, Jaye Davidson, Bob Hoskins, Tom Cruise and many others, but this is not a conventional story of life in the movies. The book is an eerie meditation on loss, love and creativity, on inspiration and influence, by one of the most unusual artists Ireland has produced.

ACOFAE Podcast Proudly Presents: Showgirls x The Life of a Showgirl: "Men are usually the villain." If you've been a long time listener then you know that getting the movie Showgirls on the pod is a WIN for Laura Marie. Pairing it with a discussion about Taylor Swift's new album release, The Life of a Showgirl, is a match made in heaven for Jessica Marie! This being Jessica Marie's very first NC-17 film is a win for everyone and ACOFAE has so much to say. Kicking off the discussion with a full breakdown of the movie Showgirls, ACOFAE is in awe of the production. Sparking discussions about shedding child star image, internalized misogyny, and sexual freedom, the movie Showgirls is a spectacle for the eyes and for the brain. Taylor's discussion focuses on how women can't do anything right in the eyes of society, and that it seems to be that pain is rewarded instead of joy - and that joy makes women talentless. Join ACOFAE as they explore all of the storylines in both the movie and the album, and come to the conclusion that women just can't be happy without criticism. Send us a textEver notice how some jokes age like fine wine while others turn flat the second the credits roll? We dig into that sweet spot where craft, culture, and timing collide—starting with the thorny question of separating art from the artist as the Diddy headlines swirl, then moving straight into the films and shows that shaped our comedic DNA. From Boomerang's Black elegance and Harlem Nights' stacked cast to Life's eternal quotables, we unpack why Eddie Murphy still holds the belt for big-screen comedy while Jamie Foxx might be the most versatile performer of his generation—piano, pipes, and punchlines on demand. We run a spirited bracket on the funniest Black sitcoms to last five seasons, with Martin winning on character work alone—Dragonfly Jones, Jerome, and Otis still crack us up. Then it's a lap through sketch comedy's hall of fame: In Living Color as blueprint, Chappelle's Show as peak, and the ripple effect across Key & Peele. TV nostalgia hits hard with New York Undercover and a spicy take on The Wire, raising the question of what's timeless versus what's just beloved. Along the way, we share personal stories, unexpected cameos we forgot we knew, and the kind of lived-in details you only get from rewatching classics at 2 a.m.Horror fans get a full segment too. We draw clean lines between thrillers and slashers, break down why The Conjuring rattled grown folks, and revisit Candyman's lingering dread. Even spoofs get their flowers—Scary Movie, Hollywood Shuffle, and a few cult picks that still surprise. We close with a tight watch list—Vampire in Brooklyn and Talking Dirty After Dark included—and a big takeaway: classics aren't crowned by hype, they're proven by rewatch value, quotability, and how well they keep saying something real long after the moment passes. If you laughed, argued with us in your head, or added a title to your queue, follow the show, share this episode with a friend, and drop your top five comedies in a review. Your list might change ours next week. Thanks for listening to the Nobody's Talking Podcast. Bigfoot Called Out His NameA newly trained deputy begins his first solo patrol on New Year's Day in 1980. What starts as a quiet shift turns tragic when he responds to a call about two missing children near Morgan Creek. He follows their footprints to a hole in the ice, where a rescue team later recovers their bodies—siblings, ages 11 and 9, who drowned. Twenty years later, on another snowy New Year's night, the now-veteran deputy hears a dispatch report about two wet children walking near the same bridge. Another officer searches but finds no children—only footprints that mysteriously end near an old, abandoned farmhouse that once belonged to the drowned children's family. Believing the sighting to be supernatural, the deputy concludes the caller likely encountered the ghosts of the long-lost siblings. The farmhouse has since been torn down, and the bridge rebuilt, but the area remains beautiful—and haunted by its past.Join my Supporters Club for $4.99 per month for exclusive stories:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/what-if-it-s-true-podcast--5445587/support

Like every part of our planetary geography, oceans have identifiable regions. Beginning at the beach and gradually dropping to about 650 feet is the continental shelf. This shallow region of the ocean is called the sunlit or Epiplagic zone. From sunlight we move into the beginnings of oceanic darkness: we leave the continental shelf and step onto the much steeper continental slope where we enter the twilight or Mesopelagic zone, which descends to about 4,000 feet—the better part of a mile. Here, light from the surface disappears. We continue in darkness down the continental slope into the midnight or Bathypelagic zone, all the way to 13,000 feet—a crushing depth of nearly two miles. But we're nowhere near the bottom yet. At 13,000 feet, the slope begins to level as it becomes the continental rise on its way to the sea floor, at about 20,000 feet. This is the Abyss, or the Abyssopelagic zone, the dwelling place of creatures that are the stuff of nightmares. Even their names conjure darkness: gulper eels. Angler fish. Vampire squid. Coffinfish. But this is still not the deepest part of the ocean. That honor goes to the Hadal zone, named after Hades, the underworld. These are the ocean's deep trenches, and they descend to unimaginable depths of nearly 37,000 feet. Mount Everest could be dropped into these canyons and its peak would lie under deep water. In this program, we look at these deep regions, at the organisms that lives there, and at the sounds of the deep.

Today on Too Opinionated we visit with actor W. Earl Brown.  Wes Craven was an early supporter, casting Earl in New Nightmare, A Vampire in Brooklyn and the role of "Kenny" in the classic, Scream. Two years after the success of Scream, Earl played "Warren", Cameron Diaz's mentally challenged brother, in There's Something About Mary. Among his many other film credits are the highly regarded films: Being John Malkovich, The Master, The Sessions , Wild , Black Mass, and the Netflix hits - The Highwaymen and The Unforgivable. On television, Earl has guest starred in many series, including: The Mandalorian, Luck, Seinfeld, Hacks, Yellowstone, American Horror Story, Justified, X-Files, Six Feet Under, and NYPD Blue. Among the TV movies he has been involved with, was the starring role in VH1's Meatloaf: To Hell and Back. He played "Tom Carlin" in ABC's highly acclaimed anthology series American Crime (2015) and "Teague Dixon" in HBO's True Detective. He is probably best known as "Dan Dority" in HBO's Deadwood. During that series' second season, the show's creator, David Milch, invited him to join the writing staff. In 2007, Earl earned a WGA nomination for writing on a drama series and a SAG nomination for best drama ensemble acting. Establishing himself on a show as critically lauded as Deadwood opened doors for other writing projects, including the Sony release, Bloodworth, which Earl wrote and produced. Earl can currently be seen as Wes Fox on Sheriff Country. In addition to his television and film work, Earl co-starred in Sony's The Last Of Us, 2013 Video Game Of The Year. He also writes music and records with Sacred Cowboys, an LA based Americana band. In 2018, he combined his love of music and film by co-creating the short film, Dad Band, which racked up 1.3 million views on YouTube.

Over glasses of The Warchief Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon by McTavish Spirits, we consider whether the conniving spymaster may have finally been outplayed…and whether the hopes and dreams of Radskier shippers have been crushed in the process. Plus, Valerie wants to see the receipts when it comes to Francesca's claims, Tim can't tell his Vesemirs from his Vizimirs and we both think Mistle and Ciri REALLY need to work on their pet names. Bigfoot KillersIn a secretive US military company of 110 elite special forces soldiers—divided into 10 teams of riflemen, snipers, and K9 units—formed under President Lyndon B. Johnson in the 1960s following the Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film, the narrator details a half-century of hunting North America's deadliest cryptids. Evolving from Project Blue Book researchers to hardened operators after confirming the threats of "things that go bump in the night," the unit conducts covert missions across the continental US (and occasionally abroad) to eliminate hostiles like Bigfoot, Dogmen, and even extraterrestrials while rescuing civilians. Supported by on-site scientists and advanced IT/satellite guidance, they've eliminated over 200 Bigfoots and several Dogmen in the past two decades, often capturing specimens alive for transport to undisclosed sites. Key missions highlight the perils:Texas Ranch Raid: A full-company op targeted an injured rogue male Bigfoot slaughtering cattle; snipers downed it effortlessly, revealing a broken leg likely from trauma, before airlifting the carcass.New Mexico Grey Encounter: Responding to harassment of an official, the team cornered a elusive, mind-manipulating Grey alien on secluded land. Firearms failed against its elastic, cartilaginous body; hand-to-hand combat with knives finally severed its head, bagging the hairless, putty-like corpse for extraction—the narrator's most dreaded foe.Michigan Dogman Hunt (2018): All units mobilized after a high-ranking officer's relative was eviscerated, uncovering two more hunter victims. Guided by IT to funnel the demonic-seeming, near-unstoppable beast into a kill zone, the team unleashed overwhelming firepower, defying orders to capture it alive.Kentucky-Indiana Bigfoot Jamboree (2020): Amid a missing boy in Land Between the Lakes and sightings near Mammoth Cave (where some escaped underground), nine more Bigfoots were herded via IT to a wildlife area. The unit orchestrated inter-group battles, using claymores and gunfire to eliminate most, pursuing a lone escapee into Shawnee National Forest over three days. The narrator shares cryptid insights: Bigfoots form protective family groups (harmless unless provoked), but rogue male packs pose the greatest threat, exhibiting tree-climbing agility, human influence, and brutal kills (e.g., impaling a hunter 20 feet up, blamed on a "tree stand fall"). Juveniles occasionally abduct children out of curiosity, while injured elders turn predatory. Dogmen, by contrast, evoke supernatural dread with their resilience and savagery. As the company faces deployment to Europe—amid rumors of new threats—the soldier pens this from a library during weekend leave, reaffirming his oath to defend against domestic and foreign horrors. He vows to share European tales if he returns intact.Join my Supporters Club for $4.99 per month for exclusive stories:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/what-if-it-s-true-podcast--5445587/support

Bigfoot - There Was No EscapeIn 1964, the narrator's grandfather and uncle, experienced campers in the Appalachian Mountains, took a risky shortcut through the eerie, lifeless Devil's Bowl to beat nightfall. What began as suspicious noises—snapping branches, rustling leaves, and clacking rocks—escalated into a terrifying ambush by multiple eight-foot-tall, hairy, ape-like creatures with piercing eyes and guttural roars, resembling Bigfoot. Pelted with increasingly large stones, the men spotted shadowy figures circling them. The grandfather, mistaking them initially for moonshiners, drew his pistol and tried to de-escalate, but a massive beast charged, knocking them down. Desperate, the uncle emptied his revolver into one creature, killing it and unleashing a horde of enraged others that swarmed, slashing and battering the pair. With broken ribs and severe wounds, the grandfather fought back fiercely, shooting several beasts in the head to defend his unconscious uncle, fearing he'd wiped out the entire group. Dragging his kin to safety, they escaped to their home for care, but the trauma lingered: the uncle bore lifelong scars and battled addiction until his death at 51; the grandfather, a Korean War vet and coal miner, carried deep regret and sorrow, dying when the narrator was 18, haunted by the unatoned violence in the creatures' "front yard."Join my Supporters Club for $4.99 per month for exclusive stories:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/what-if-it-s-true-podcast--5445587/support
