Victim shaming hurts victims on top of the hurt they have already endured. It shouldn't happen, but it often does even in the church and among Christians. Watch this video to find out the many ways victim shaming happens to ensure you aren't doing it. If you have been victim-shamed, you will find this video validating. Dear Diary (& Listeners), There is so much I want to say. Today I reflect on the fact that this is the TENTH episode of The Dichotomy Diaries... TEN?! I was so scared to release the TRAILER you guys... I remember recording it over and over again. On my IPHONE of all devices. Something inside of me knew that this was exactly what I needed to heal, find purpose, and remember the feeling of self-love. With Christmas right around the corner, I feel more emotional than usual. I am so PROUD of myself. I am so HUMBLED with the support I receive from you all. I am SHOCKED at the amount of listener submissions I receive. I am NOSTALGIC for the warmth of family tradition around the holiday season. I am DISGUSTED at the attempts of Victim Shaming that happens in our society. I am MOTIVATED to continue to lead by example for those who have been taken advantage of an abused. I AM ALL THE THINGS. And that's probably why I cried during this episode. In Episode 10 - The House Always Wins, we uncover the truth behind the mysterious Arizona Woman who shared countless hours on the phone with Dick, and all the things associated. We finally move into our BELOVED apartment in the "best part" of town...And Christmas is spent with Dick's family. That holiday was filled with a lot of love. I remember feeling such warmth. However, there was this unshakable feeling that something was wrong...or maybe it was that there was something- that everyone around me knew, but I didn't. This is my piece of advice for you. Especially after recording this episode... Childhood Trauma, whatever that may be, is NO joke. If you do not seek to heal or understand your childhood trauma, you WILL carry it into every relationship you have in the future- until you do. Give your parents grace. They are doing this for the first time too. And tell your family that you love them as often as you can. While Christmas may seem like a happy time of year to most; to some, there is a dreaded anticipation around the approach of this holiday. To some, Christmas serves as a stark reminder that the people we love most, are no longer with us. If you find yourself sad around the Christmas because of the absence of loved ones; I challenge you do at least one thing a day that is in celebration of those gone too soon. Light a candle at church. Play their favorite song in the car. Cook their favorite meal. The more we keep their memory alive, the more we embrace the feeling of happiness and feel freer to celebrate instead of mourn during Christmastime. Candice is back with another solo episode, this time asking some big questions: What is gaslighting & why is it such a thing? Why are so many people allergic to the word victim? And is spiritual dogma getting in the way of relational accountability? The episode opens with a peek into Conspirituality - and a new book by the same name - leading into an exploration of spiritual supremacy and how/why social stigmas around victimhood have become so prevalent. Candice shares personally about her long and messy history with gaslighting, and how devotion to new ageism only added to her confusion. She challenges the notion that all suffering is meant, then breaks down the cognitive biases that fuel a victim blaming/shaming culture. True victimhood isn't something we choose, and it's very often shame-inducing because of how it is culturally conflated with unlovability and learned helplessness; examples of this are offered, as well as a critical look at the impossible standards that victims (and/or advocates who speak out on their behalf) are held to. Tone policing is defined and examined as a deflection of accountability, as well as other tools in the arsenal of those who are truly ‘playing the victim'… aka co-opt the language of the oppressed in order to justify retaliation in the face of restorative resistance. This is a jam-packed episode as a lead-in to the final few conversations in the ‘cult'ure series - which will roll out from now through August. On March 6, 1983 a 21-year-old woman was brutally raped by 4 men in a bar while other patrons and bar staff looked on, with some even cheering. Her case went to trial but she was quickly portrayed as “asking for it” and her name was smeared in the media. While the men who raped her were eventually found guilty, the damage was done and the young mother left with her family to another city. She would die just 4 years later in a car accident, which would once again become focused on victim blaming. This is the story of Cheryl Araujo. We welcome the team of the Canadian feature documentary detailing the nearly fatal encounter on July 26, 2017 between Sean Cribbin and Canada's biggest serial killer Bruce McArthur. Follow Sean on his journey through the psychological storm of PTSD, Survivors Guilt and Victim Shaming. This podcast gives an amazing behind the scenes look with the entire team of the highly anticipated, award winning documentary "WAS I NEXT?". You must stay to the end and listen to each of their FINAL THOUGHTS about what it meant to them to make this documentary - such a sensitive story with very personal information. There was not a dry eye in the house.Sean Cribbin has been able to heal a tremendous amount over the last couple of years since he escaped the most notorious serial killer in Canada, Bruce McArthur. This episode gives the executive producers, Tami Rydall, Craig Huckerby as well as producer Bill Greer and musical director Steve Sauder and of course Sean Cribbin an opportunity to really talk about how they came together to make this amazing team and produce their first full documentary. Tami, a single mother of 5 daughters says that it is such an important story to be told and she is so honored and grateful that Sean trusted her with his story and her passion for this documentary is far beyond what she can explain. Billy wanted to make sure that Sean's wish to remember all 8 victims would be honored. Here are the names of the victims Skandaraj Navaratnam, Abdulbasir Faizi, Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi, Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, Dean Lisowick, Selim Esen and Andrew Kinsman. If you would like to know more about them we have included a link. .It was most important for Billy that the person that would interview Sean would have a big heart and not judge in order to make Sean have setbacks since you are talking about a lot of really far out stuff. Tami was perfect for the job. Billy remembers the time when he was homeless 25 years ago and Sean and his partner at the time took him in and that changed the course of his life and got him back on his feet. About 3/4 way through filming Sean had a bacterial pneumonia that went septic. He was dying. The hospital told his partner Steve that Sean would not be coming home and to get his family together. The sepsis had gone into his bloodstream. His organs were shutting down and he almost was put into a medical induced coma. By some miracle he survived, but was in the hospital for 6 weeks. At the same time executive producer Craig experienced severe heart trouble and had to have open heart surgery. Sean is using this documentary as a catalyst to spread Internet Safety Awareness for everyone. He wants the hashtag #tellsomeone to trend everywhere so people always tell someone they know where they are going and with whom. "HEALING, EMPATHY, UNDERSTANDING, LOVE AND PEACE" is what they want to spread across the world with this documentary. We talk about the touching scenes from the celebration called Illumination Night which honored all the victims and Sean got to plant a tree and hug lots of people. Sean says that was a cathartic moment for him and he was able to let a lot of stuff go. At the time of this recording the documentary has won over 50 awards worldwide from film festivals. Billy's biggest dream for the documentary was to make sure that their friend was totally healed and taken care of. There were many critical moments during filming, but they pulled it off. Sean felt very lost after almost becoming the 9th victim and he wanted to make sure to have his story heard and that "HE MATTERS". This is when Craig, Tami, Billy, Steve and Sean give their final thoughts and it is a MUST LISTEN!! Do not miss this. IN THE END SEAN IS A HUMAN BEING AND THE ONLY WORD THAT MATTERS IS LOVE. EVERYONE DESERVES LOVE, RESPECT AND KINDNESS.SEAN TEACHES EVERYONE THAT YOU CAN LOVE EVERYBODY - IT IS ALL ABOUT THE PERSON AND THEIR HEART. Außerdem geben die beiden ihren Senf zum strittig diskutierten Skandalthema zwischen Luke Mockridge und Ines Anioli dazu, wobei man schon fast sagen kann die beiden haben eher ein "unpopular" opinion dazu.

There is a lot of victim shaming in the Dr. Anderson case at the University of Michigan, but why?
Ever say things or think things like "Jeez, just block that guy", or, "Why can't she just leave!? What is wrong with her?" "I can't believe she is still talking to him, I would NEVER accept that treatment". How about "You just need to respect and love yourself enough" You might think these statements are obvious or even helpful but *newsflash* they're NOT. They are incredibly damaging. There is so much pain, and guilt and brainwashing and shame in an abusive relationship DON'T add to it. Did you know: There are NUMEROUS types of abuse (i.e. sexual, physical, mental, emotional, verbal, spiritual, financial etc) and sometimes, there is a combination of abuse types happening all at once. Did you know victims are essentially trained, for their own survival to normalize these behaviors? That the average woman take 7 times to leave before being successful? There are a million reasons people stay, and please educate yourself before making another blaming and shaming statement. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is one of the most common and dangerous forms of violence against women . I have repeatedly asked myself questions: Why don't the victims speak earlier? Why didn't they the first time something happened? Why didn't they go to someone in a position of authority over the various individuals who misused, abused, and assaulted them? On this episode, I had the pleasure of Interviewing a relationship expert, Ms. Canada World Finalist , Malissa Veroni .
