Send Julie a text!!Actress Mimi Gianopulos shares about what it's like to be at the inflection point of getting her career-defining role on the Disney sitcom “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.” It's clear how much she loves her job, which she says is professional make-believe!Mimi knew as a young girl that she wanted to be an actress, and she was always chatty at school and loved making other students laugh. She attended Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama and graduated with a degree in Musical Theater. After 3 years of consistent work as an actress, the volume decreased and she got a few roles here and there -- nothing substantial, but enough to keep her going towards her dreams. Mimi's previous television roles include playing Sue Mengers in the miniseries “The Offer,” Kaitlyn in the comedy series “Rutherford Falls,” and a recurring role as Morgan on “American Princess.” Gianopulos is best known for her recurring role as Angela in the Freeform series “Baby Daddy,” and was also cast in the lead role for the pilot of “Continuing Fred” for Freeform. Mimi's character is the mom, Giada Russo, in “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” which is the continuation of the beloved hit Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place." Selena Gomez and David Henrie were both actors in the original series and are now executive producers of this new show out in late October 2024.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I absolutely LOVE being the host and producer of "Women with Cool Jobs", where I interview women who have unique, trailblazing, and innovative careers. As we continue our visit to the Riviera in the Belle Epoque, The Gilded Gentleman revisits the little-known story of an American-born European princess. Many people think that Grace Kelly became the first American princess of Monaco when she married Prince Rainier in 1956. The truth however is that decades before in the glittering years of the Belle Epoque, another American-born woman married a Monegasque prince and claimed that honor. Alice Heine was born in New Orleans to a French father and a mother with European as well as Southern roots. Moving to Europe with her family when she was a child, she married a French duke at a young age. His untimely death left her a widow, but she caught the eye of Prince Albert I of Monaco who despite his family's objections married her in 1889 making her his princess. The story of Alice's life as Princess of Monaco is a fascinating one which includes many famous names of the era such as the Prince of Wales the future King Edward VII. Among other efforts to modernize the principality, Alice devoted much of her time to raising the cultural prestige of Monaco and Monte Carlo. Her marriage faltered due to infidelity on both sides and following a dramatic incident discussed in the show, Alice abruptly left Monaco in 1901 never to return.
This month's pilot is East WillyB written by Julia Ahumada Grob (Mr. Iglesias) & Yamin Segal (The Wonder Years). It's a half hour comedy based on their indie web series of the same name. This week's guest is Jaime Denbo, writer, performer, comedienne and my friend from the New York days. We met working at Toy Fair together in 1997. Until recently, it had been years since I'd last seen her. So much resonance, despite so much time passed. Friendships our are most important relationships. Why don't we treat them with more care on the whole? Why don't we seek couples therapy when we struggle and find ourselves locked in patterns like in our romantic relationships? It sure would shift the enormous pressure we put on those duos. If you've not seen Jamie's show American Princess, you should watch it. It's a tender take on Renaissance Faire life and asks the question, as her solo show on the same theme did, "What is a livelihood?" This question flows into these thoughts about friendship, creativity, place, and why a dog would develop the game of pulling out hair ties. If you're interested in my pocket coaching program, which provides support when and where you need it (we use What's App and 1:1 Zoom sessions) send me an email hi@reihance. com and we can check the fit. How Lucas and Alex's mined their own dynamic to write the characters of Lenny and Al. Lucas shared with us his ideas for where the show would've gone and so much more. CHECK THEM NECKS AND TALK TO YOUR KRANG BRAIN! Because today we are back in Toby Territory, talking about Toby "Cream Jeans" Hooper's 1986 remake "Invaders From Mars". Joining us is special guest Lucas Hazlett (TBS' Wrecked, Lifetime's American Princess)! This movie is a cavalcade of amazing actors, amazing behind the scenes, and amazing how it just...isn't...that amazing? HEAR US OUT! We go through it all, from the alien's Pink Floyd laser light show, to the alien's terrible skills at hiding their plans, to the alien's ship designs...kind of looking like low rent "Alien". Are those tic-tacs he's pouring into that coffee? Is this an "Edge of Tomorrow" scenario? Did Karen Black accidentally say an actress' real name? Did Mrs. McKeltch own that creepy taxidermy van BEFORE the invasion?! Also, Frank completely botches his easter egg trivia and cites "Starcrash" instead of the original "Invaders From Mars" (they look like the same head!). And we try to answer the ultimate question: Does Cream Jeans just have a little brother complex with Spielberg? Never forget...“Marines have no qualms about killing Martians!” Follow us on the socials: Twitter: @thecannoncanon Instagram: @thecannoncanon And join our new Patreon: patreon.com/thecannoncanon Please rate and review us!

This week The TV Boys sit down to discuss Rob Corddry and his fantastic and often hilarious work. Jonny boldly uses the word “casted” as if it were the 14th century, also we wrestle with the age old question “Should Jumanji have been remade?”
Steve Bono. Lucas Hazlett. A podcast that is way too long but I just didn't want to edit, and it's funny so whatever. This marathon podcast starts with yours truly reviewing Steve Bono's career with the 49ers & Chiefs where he backed up Joe Montana and Steve Young. I also tackle current modern day hot topics including "port vs. starboard", is timeshare bad, and the lack of trigger warnings for the CBS 1991 TV movie The Rape of Dr. Willis. Then my friend Lucas Hazlett (2 Broke Girls, Life in Pieces, American Princess) joins the podcast and we cover too much ground. There's enough in here to upset everyone, so this podcast has a "don't listen if you're a pussy" rating. Today my guest on the Hometown to Hollywood podcast is actress Jessica Marie Garcia. Jessica is best known for her roles of Jasmine in the Netflix hit On My Block, Willow in Liv and Maddie, and Becky in The Middle, as well as recurring roles on Diary of a Future President, How to Get Away with Murder, American Princess, Starter Pack, Hacking High School, Huge, and more. She is a member of the all-female ensemble cast of BETCH: A Sketch Show on Hulu, and her feature film Avenge The Crows was released on iTunes, where she plays Peaches starring alongside Danny Trejo and Lou Diamond Phillips. This is Jessica’s second time on the podcast—our last interview was almost exactly four years ago today. Our conversation covers a wide range, and includes how she got started, audition advice, the role of training in her success, challenges she’s had, thoughts on social media, the importance of seeing people who look like you in film and TV, and much, much more. We also laugh a lot! And I would never take that year back.” “I’m a damn good waiter.” “You have to get 100 ‘NO’s’ before you get a ‘YES.’” “Representation matters. When you don’t see yourself represented, you don’t necessarily think you can do this.” “I just kind of refused to believe that I couldn’t do what I want to do.” “I knew if I waited in line long enough, it would happen for me.” “Nothing worth it is ever easy.” “Everyone has a process… but Stanislavski worked great for me.” “Once I started owning my power & knowing my worth, I feel like the world has opened up many doors for me.” “If you really want to do this, I would encourage you to learn every facet of this industry.” Follow Jessica HERE: Twitter: @JessMarieGarcia Instagram: @jess_m_garcia Jessica’s advice—to learn everything about the industry that you can if you really want to do this—comes from experience. And we. Are. BACK to our normal Wednesday schedule to discuss Trump’s RIDICULOUS claim that he takes hydroxychloroquine like a vitamin, Miss Nancy Pelosi and even Fox News’s sincere worries about his health. We then take some time to read one of our favorite Both Sides Girls, Meghan McCain and her continued amnesia on who is actually treated her dearly departed father like s***. Spoiler Alert...it wasn't Obama. We then head across the pond to chat about Covid-19 developments in the UK and our American Princess, Meghan Markle. We end our chat by enlightening each other on our Problematic Faves. The (Former) Pied Piper of R&B...and underage girls, R. Ben Gleib was named by TBS one of the "funniest comedians working today." He’s host, head writer, and executive producer of the Emmy nominated "Idiotest" on NETFLIX. The hit comedy brain teaser game show originally had four seasons & 210 episodes on Game Show Network, and was their most watched original. For 7 years he was one of the stars of “Chelsea Lately" on E! with over 100 appearances on the round table! He currently can be seen in the “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” movie, along with Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Chris Hemsworth, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Recently he pranked David Beckham on “The Late Late Show with James Corden“ which got 27 million views. His hilarious hour-long standup special “Ben Gleib - Neurotic Gangster” which premiered on SHOWTIME is currently on AMAZON PRIME. Gleib is also the first comedian to ever live stream a full headline set on Facebook Live, doing it in 8 straight cities on his 2016 tour, 100% improvised, getting almost 4 million views. His act is full of unique material, but he's also one of the best at crowd work, making it all up on the spot. He hosted with Olivia Munn the “Telethon for America”. Gleib also created it, executive produced, and was head writer. It featured celebrities such as Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Chelsea Handler, Jane Fonda, Constance Wu, Amy Schumer, Jessica Alba, Judd Apatow, Hasan Minhaj, Adam Devine, Aisha Tyler, Pete Davidson, Ray Romano, Julia Louis Dreyfus, and over 80 others. It was the first telethon ever with the goal of raising zero dollars. Reinventing the telethon for the digital age, instead the non-partisan telethon took pledges to vote in 2018 midterms, aiming to create historic turnout, which was achieved! Trying to offer an out-of-the-box option for the country, and seeing comedians win elections around the globe, he just concluded a run for President of the United States in the 2020 election, finishing after almost 8 months in the race, as the 15th highest fundraising active Democratic campaign. Despite this, he wasn’t able to qualify for the debates so the campaign ended. During the run he spoke at events alongside the front-runner candidates, campaigning in 13 states and territories including multiple trips to Iowa and New Hampshire, Puerto Rico on the 2-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria, was arrested protesting corruption at the capitol building in DC, joined immigration protests, LGBT parades, and stood proudly with the teachers on the picket line in Chicago. His campaign was covered by Larry King, the Des Moines Register, and countless others. Videos and information can be seen at Gleib2020.com As an actor he just guest starred on “American Princess” an hour dramedy from Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black, GLOW.) He was a regular on "The Today Show" with Kathie Lee and Hoda, with over 25 appearances, and you may have seen one of his appearances on "@Midnight with Chris Hardwick" on Comedy Central, or as a correspondent on ”The Arsenio Hall Show”. He has toured sold-out arenas all over North America with both Chelsea Handler and Dane Cook, and has been headlining comedy clubs around the world since 2007. An accomplished voice over actor as well, Gleib is one of the stars of Kevin Smith's "Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie," is the voice of Marshall the Sloth in "Ice Age: Continental Drift," and voices Dali in "The Book of Life" starring Channing Tatum. Esquire once called him one of “Six comedians who could be comedy’s next big thing.” The other five were Aziz Ansari, Patton Oswalt, David Cross, Demetri Martin, and Flight of the Conchords.

Jamie Denbo's life and career would not be the same were it not for her job at a Renaissance fair. Her future in comedy, improv, acting, and now writing and producing might not have taken shape if she didn't mistakenly audition for a gig she didn't understand. Jamie tells Marc how early life misdirection and heavy duty self-criticism changed course thanks to the honing of her improv skills at the Ren-Fair and her coming-of-age at the original UCB Theater. They also talk about Ronna and Beverly, why she doesn't want to do on-camera work anymore, and how she turned the Renaissance fair experience into a comedy series, American Princess. I was telling my friend Heather the other day that I interviewed Jamie Denbo who created a show all about the Ren Faire. Her reaction, like mine, was...FINALLY! Why hasn't this subject been explored and put on display for all to see before? Denbo created "American Princess" which airs on Lifetime on June 2nd. I invited her to tell me about this show and how she became an actress, producer and top improviser. Denbo came to Hollywood in a unique way. She didn't train a traditional top acting school or have famous parents. She got a taste of theater and performing after a random audition for the Ren Faire. She says she was hooked on a life of immersing herself in other characters ever since. After a short stint at Disney World, she found her way to New York and trained under the original UCB founders - Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Matt Walsh, and Ian Roberts. She found the experience of doing improv in New York strangely competitive at the time, unlike it is now. But she learned the UCB style and brought it to LA, launching the UCB Los Angeles theater and school. During that time she created her most well-known character, Beverly Ginsberg of "Ronna & Beverly" - a cult alt comedy act that was a live show, TV show and podcast (with guests like Jon Hamm, Connie Britton, Michael Strahan, Bob Odenkirk, Jack Black, Leslie Grossman, Paul Feig, Ben Platt, Will Arnett, Michael Bolton, etc.). She played Beverly for 12 years while also appearing in guest star roles on the biggest shows on TV. She has had recurring roles on “Orange is the New Black”, “The Good Place”, “F is for Family”, “Speechless”, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”. Despite all of her success, like many actors, she felt unfulfilled in some ways waiting for an audition to get a small part on a TV show. She says found joy and a sense of control in creating her own shows and projects. For many years she wanted to tell the stories of the colorful characters who live and breath the Ren Faire life and finally had the chance to do it. "American Princess" tells the story of an American socialite who joins a Renaissance Faire after her wedding goes awry, only to discover there’s a lot more to life than she once thought. When Amanda (Georgia Flood), an Upper East Side socialite, runs away from her own dream wedding, she realizes that the life she thought she wanted wasn’t actually right after all. After impulsively joining a Renaissance Faire, Amanda experiences an unexpected awakening that leads her to reevaluate everything she thought she knew about the pursuit of happiness. She quickly develops new friendships, rivalries and romances that, much to the confusion of her family, opens her eyes to new beginnings. Not only does "American Princess" have Denbo's sense of humor and great character development skills, but it's also being executive produced by Jenji Kohan ("OITNB", "Weeds") so it's comedy pedigree solid. Denbo is also a mom of 2 but to be honest, we didn't get to talk about motherhood much in this episode because we were diving in deep about the world of improv, Disney, Ren Faires and making television. Listen to this episode to hear the rest of Denbo's story and watch "American Princess" on Lifetime Sunday, June 2 at 10 pm ET/PT.
