Are you tired of making New Year's Resolutions that you've forgotten about or given up on by mid-February if not sooner?Have you ever heard of the ONE WORD movement? I started my One Word resolves about five or six years ago. I have chosen words such as Courage, Clarity, Focus, Vision, Trust and Flexibility. And today, I want to do something a little different on the show. I want to share this concept with you and teach you how to adopt it for your own. I will also be sharing stories from a few other people I have met who wanted to share what choosing a ONE WORD has done for them over the years.I am going to let you in on an often-ignored or unacknowledged truth: Change is possible, but it requires not only intention but the right kind of focus. So forget new gym memberships you won't use or the newest extreme fad diets, expensive planners and going into debt buying new Rubbermaid to organize the basement—lets forget entirely about Resolutions. Yes, they are a way to try to focus, but sometimes in a overly simplified way and almost always resolutions are and more importantly, not at all on the root causes or philosophies and character traits that lead us in the directions we go. We don't want to be focused on what we DON'T want but rather on what we do want and what will get us there. Resolutions to lose 20 pounds for example are often based on the type of person we're tired of being rather than who we want to become. And when you “break your resolve” then what? You quit, right? There's no room for the process of growth in a New Years Resolution. On the other hand, One Words are centered on our hope for the year ahead and who we want to become or what we want to achieve, maybe who we believe God wants us to be, and the transformative process of getting there. We need to get at the heart of what needs to be revolutionized deep down within us to inform and give energy to these things we want to see becomes realities in our lives. So its no longer “OK, I have to lose 20 pounds or 40 pounds and I am gonna go to the gym 4 times a week until I do.” Now, it's “What is it that is missing in my life that leads me to make poor food choices or to choose to be sedentary rather than active?” Journaling about the hearts of matters such as this might lead you to a One Word like discipline or health when you realize the issue at the heart of is a lack of discipline or when you think about wanting to make your health a priority so you can enjoy your grandchildren more and for longer. At the heart of the matter, a One Word is like “your why.” Have you ever heard about the importance of defining your why as part of mapping out success in any area of your life? This is why I choose just one word to be my focus for the next twelve months, to help me stay tuned into the “fuel” (the why) that I need for making positive changes that last longer than February.Let's start with one story from my treasure trove of One Words. It was the year 2020. I had chosen FOCUS because there was an overall sense that I had been feeling for a long time of doing too many things and feeling like I couldn't focus, plus it was 20/20… get it? Focus/ 20/20 vision? Ok, so anyway, I started with journaling. If you know me at all, you know this is common practice for me with a lot of things. Work it out on the page. The more I wrote, the more I explored what I wanted to envision for the coming year, and the easier it was to pare it down to a single word.BRAINSTORMAnother method that can be helpful for selecting your One Word is to just start writing possible words. Your One Word is most likely going to be a NOUN or a VERB. Mini grammar lesson: a noun is a subject, a thing, a state or a quality. A verb is an action word, a function, a mood even. So, now just literally brainstorm. SeSupport the show (https://www.paypal.me/anniejallen)

How did you approach these mentors that you have. Bonnie: And then in 2018 you were mentioning the arthritis. And so 2018 was great. I met Gary V at the beginning of 2018. And anybody knows Gary Vaynerchuk. He's amazing if you don't go, find him on social media. And it was really my first introduction into entrepreneurial, realm. Like I was like, there's people that talk like this they're they they're motivational the inspiration. I was just like, so taken aback because I had never heard people really talk like Gary V and Tony Robbins and, you know, Lewis, Howes and David Meltzer and all of these different people. And I'm like, wow, this is amazing. So later in 2018, I found out the arthritis had moved into my spine. I had been having a lot of spine pain and I honestly kind of panicked and went to my rheumatologist and said to her, okay, I want to try something medication again, because the nature of the disease is to deteriorate. So it starts breaking away. Parts of your joints, your organs. It, it attacks them and I already have something also called the general disc disease, which means the same, same thing, different reason that my spine is basically falling apart. And my youngest two at the time were two and five. And I was like, I want to be able to walk and run and do things with them. So if medication is my only option right now to at least slow this down while I figure something else out, let's do this. And I ended up on something called Humira. And so biologic, injectable. So I had to give myself a shot every two weeks. And for anybody who's terrified of needles that's me right here. But I felt like it was my only chance to slow this down. Because what it does is it basically shuts off your immune system. So it stops attacking you. And it went horribly wrong. For lack of better words, I was expecting it to be like my saving grace. I had a lot of hope for, it working and I took a nosedive health wise. I stuck it out for six or seven months. And then in 2019, I met Evan Carmichael, which is also pivotal because he was another person in that realm that I got to meet and boosted me up. And I still actually, I'm very involved with a lot of the things that Evan does. But I decided after meeting him and, and making all of these plans and the Humira is not working. And I'm trying to, trying to stick it out. because, so I felt like if maybe if I just gave it one more month, one more month, like it would start to work and I would start to feel better and that wasn't happening. So I think it was like March or April, 2018 or 2019. When I finally told my doctor was like, I can't do this anymore. It's not working. She was trying to get me to stick it out longer. And I was like, no, I'm done. I said, this stuff is wrecking my life. I'm miserable. I feel like I have the flu all the time. I have zero energy. Like I was worse off on the medication than I was on. I'm not sure if it did any good with my spine or not. But otherwise it just, it wasn't worth it. Like the trade off wasn't worth it at that point. So yeah, that's what happened with that. 2019 is also when I met David Meltzer who was my mentor and now my friend. And had such a tremendous impact on my healing and my life. It's just been incredible. It's been almost two years since I met him now and the change in myself and the way I view my health and the way I view the world, the way of you, lots of things is so much different. And I, I just, I can't thank him enough, to be honest with you. He's just been, he's been a tremendous, tremendous help and support and guide and just everything. But yeah, that, that all happened before COVID and Etsy and everything for me, I was still working on posh notions at the time. I remember meeting David for the first time. He agreed to mentor me for a month. And my first phone call with him. I was like, I want I'm working on this, on my unbreakable campaign. And I was like, I'm and I'm trying to write a book and I'm trying to build a business and try it. And within like five minutes, he was like, you're not going to do any of this stuff until you get your health in order.I like I've never met this man in person. Right. I'm just talking to him on the phone. And I was like, wow, if you could gather all of that 3000 miles away, and you're willing to talk to me, like, I bet listen to what you have to say. And that it was third part of my healing journey was meeting David. And I guess third pivotal part in my healing journey was meeting David. And going from like, I have to figure out a way, knowing that there gotta be a different way to finally finding somebody that was going to help me find the way I I don't think I. The impact he was going to have at that point, because when he gave me that advice, it wasn't what I was looking for. Obviously, like I was looking for business, right. I wasn't looking for that, but it was like the universe delivered and I was like, Hey, I'm ready to listen. I'm ready to hear this now. And over the next several months, he helped me focus on things that either I hadn't thought of before, or did not put enough focus into, so like sleep, for example was one of them. He helped me with not only just the notion of getting better sleep and how restorative sleep is supposed to be. And I think we all know this intellectually, but we don't think about what really goes into a good night's sleep. Right. Glee: I can totally relate with that. Bonnie: Yeah. And like, we all know. seven, eight hours of sleep, but, there's so many things that go into actually having restorative sleep, not just hitting the pillow and waking up in the morning. So that was one of the biggest things that he helped me with, like right up front. And it just snowballed into, to all of these different tips and tricks and mindset shifts. And I would ask them these questions and the way he would explain things, it was like, wow, I hadn't thought of it that way. the first, like six to eight months. It was very, very eyeopening to me because it, supported my idea that I was the one in charge and in control of myself. And then I had no control over it, what anybody else was doing. But on top of that gave me the practical tips to deal with things that I was struggling with. Right. So yeah, that, sums up 2019 Glee: I'm curious about how do you approach a mentor? how did you approach David Meltzer? How did you approach these mentors that you have. Bonnie: So I've just recently learned this maybe in the past six months or so that there's decisions that I make super quickly are my instinct or my intuition talking to me and the ones that we kind of let drop, belong and drawn out Glee: It's like analysis paralysis. Bonnie: it's like, when you ask yourself this questions, the first answer that comes to you is probably the right answer. But a lot of times we ignore it because we don't want to listen to that, or we don't want to do whatever that thing is. So for me, so meeting Gary V is a perfect example of that. I decided on a Thursday kind of half joking around on Twitter to drive to New Jersey, which from here is a good, it's like an eight hour drive. Because he was doing a book signing. I had no idea how I was going to do this. I didn't know how I was going to get the money to do it. And we left Friday morning and it was amazing. I faced so many of my fears that weekend and did so many things that were so out of my comfort zone. Now Gary, isn't a personal mentor of mine. Like I don't know him. or anything. I just, I follow a lot of his content. I've spoken to him via. Social media a few times since then, but Gary V was very much still in the hustle mentality when I first met him. And I realized very quickly that the hustle culture did not work for me and for my body. And then I was not able to do that. And I had to figure out how to do things my own way. But he has since shifted, which I love about him, that he has just shifted more into to mindset and doing what's right for you, et cetera, et cetera. Evan was another one that was very spur of the moment. So I was supposed to do my Humira shot. The, I did them on Friday nights on think it was another Thursday. I found out he was going to be here in Pittsburgh on a Saturday. I was like, oh, there's no way I'm going. I have to do my shot. And I can't do that. And then I decided I was going to wait and delay my shot a day so I could go meet him, bought the tickets. Yeah, I Just, delayed it a night and took, it when I came home after seeing him. but it was very spur of the moment decision. I was like, I'm going to do this. I'm going to get my ticket. My husband's like, why are you going to pay $50? Go hear somebody speak. And now I think he understands a lot more now. And I'm like, I was like, you don't understand who this guy is. So I ended up going, ahead. And I went down and met him and it was just amazing. Like I said, it spurred all of these different things in me. I had so much confidence after meeting him and so many ideas, the creativity was just kind of flying out of me. But what I did with Evan was different. After meeting Evan, I started engaging a lot with him on social media. He was doing a lot of lives on YouTube. I got really engaged in his culture and a lot of the other people that were following him. I started providing value to like his other followers. So if he wasn't alive, people were asking questions. I would try to help the best that I could. And I really immersed myself kind of in his culture and in his ecosystem. what I did when I went down to see him here in Pittsburgh, I made shirts for him and his wife and a couple of other people basically this, circle of success kind of thing. And he had all these different things on there. So I made a few of those and I took them with me and gave them to him. And he's very humble. And he was very grateful that I made, gifts for him. I wouldn't have had, he ended up coming to Cleveland, which is only a couple hour drive from here. And I ended up making shirts for the whole team and driving out to Cleveland. so he had broken his neck on tour and he couldn't put his hoodies on anymore. So I bought it as zip up hoodie and made him a zip-up hoodie with his logo on it because he couldn't get anything here in the states because they're from Canada and they were on tour. So I kept in contact with these people and providing value and trying to do things it'd be helpful. With David, it was a little bit different. I learned about David from Evan's book Your One Word, and then I read David's book. And then I found David on Instagram and I tried to go live with David one time on Instagram. And for some reason my, phone wouldn't connect. So I reached out to him and the DM. Yeah. I reached out into and he is such a humble giving, genuine, like he will talk to anybody. He's just so giving of everything that he has, like, he believes so much in abundance and the power of receiving and we went back and forth and conversation a little bit and he ended up telling me about, he had this thing where he would mentor anybody for one month for free. And then if you decided to mentor with him afterwards, or you didn't, you know, whatever. So I was like, I'll take it. It took a few weeks to get everything set up, but I just, I ended up building a relationship with him. And that's really what most mentors, at least in my experience like these people want to help people. they're out on social media and they're being public with their knowledge, they want to help you. That's a lot of them just want to serve, that was a really long answer out of say, like ask, like, I know that sounds short and sweet and simple, but you also want to make sure you're trying to provide value to them because a lot of people, you, go in and you say, I need this from you, or I want this from me or you do this for me. And they have no idea who you are. Most people aren't going to say yes, right after the bat. But if you're showing up in their lives and you're showing up in their, free coaching sessions and you're showing up on their social media and you're showing that you're, trying to give value and trying to be helpful, that you're appreciative all of those different things, more likely you're going to get, a Yes answer. Also a lot of these people have coaching programs that they have different things built in. To what they do. Glee: Yeah. Thank you for that, Bonnie, because I think most people, yes, you mentioned most people have that thinking that, because you're a mentor, you're just going to give me, all the things that I need, but it should be like a two way kind of thing. Right? Bonnie: exactly a hundred percent even with David now, I still you know, ask him, can I help with this? Or I know somebody's birthday is coming up. Can I make something for that? And it's not even like a, trading. Like it has to be a genuine Yes. To give something to someone without expecting to get something back because that's not, not a relationship that's just trading. Like there's, there's a difference. it starts with what your intentions are.

In Podcast Episode 95, “Your One Word, God-honoring Theme for 2021,” Kim discusses the “One Word” annual challenge and how God can use this to help focus your spiritual growth journey in 2021. Just as we are entering a new season of life, as 2021 begins, the Israelites were continuing their preparation for moving from their wilderness years to the Promised Land. Moses' wise words to them could easily be applied to your life, as you proceed further in your journey toward Christlikeness. The primary scripture text for this episode is Deuteronomy 10:12-21: 12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. 13 And you must always obey the Lord's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good. 14 “Look, the highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to the Lord your God. 15 Yet the Lord chose your ancestors as the objects of his love. And he chose you, their descendants, above all other nations, as is evident today. 16 Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn. 17 “For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. 18 He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing. 19 So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt. 20 You must fear the Lord your God and worship him and cling to him. Your oaths must be in his name alone. 21 He alone is your God, the only one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done these mighty miracles that you have seen with your own eyes. The World's #1 Personal Development Book Podcast! In this episode, I have the pleasure to interview author Evan Carmichael. Evan is the author of Built to Serve and Your One Word. At 19, he built and sold a biotech company. At 22, he was a venture capitalist raising $500k to $15M. His YouTube channel has over two million subscribers and he speaks all over the world. Evan's mission is to solve the world's biggest problem: People don't #Believe in themselves enough. He has set two world records, he uses a trampoline and standup desk, owns Canada's largest salsa dancing studio, and has a giant Doritos bag in front of him all day to remind himself that he is stronger than the Doritos! During an Instagram Live in April 2020, Evan challenged Nick to get outside of his comfort zone and get his adrenaline pumping. After much consideration, Nick decided to launch this podcast so that he could seek advice from the world's top authors. This show is the result of that conversation. Thank you Evan for #Believing in BookThinkers! Please enjoy this amazing conversation with Evan Carmichael. Today's episode is sponsored by Audible. Outsourcing is a business strategy where companies use external services, such as virtual assistants, to perform tasks needed in their projects. This leverage benefits companies and employees alike by having a flexible work environment, which contributes to an improved quality of work as well as its financial benefits. In today's episode, Linh Podetti joins us to talk about how outsourcing can be made simple. Linh is a social entrepreneur and outsourcing specialist. She is the CEO and founder of the internationally recognized outsourcing business, Outsourcing Angel, which helps business owners connect with talented virtual assistants (VA). Check these podcast highlights, and don't forget to tune in to the episode to know more about the business outsourcing process. Getting Into Outsourcing (03:23) She initially went to the typical path of getting a corporate job after university. The frustration of an inflexible 9 to 5 job became her motivation to come up with a business idea. She started to learn how to create a marketing plan, a business, and a website with limited money. While running her business, she came across people to whom she can outsource SEO work or content writing because she wasn't passionate about the company. Her opportunity arrived when she started doing project managing and marketing for a client. But along the way, she realized that it would be easier to remove herself from that model. After getting caught up in the first business that made her money, in 2015, Linh founded Outsourcing Angel. Why Should You Outsource? (08:26) They help business owners build a reliable virtual team. Outsourcing is not just trying to get one task done. It's about building a team you can rely on that will grow with you. A lot of people start with hiring freelancers on a project basis where there is no real benefit. When someone works with you for years, they will know you inside out, and they're going to follow your mission and be there whenever you need them. If you want to grow, you're going to need people. You have to take that leap. The Basics of Outsourcing (12:43) You have to put discipline and relay what you want. Outsourcing is more affordable. Because you're working online, you have to use tools such as screencast tools and video calls to train your team. It's essential to have a dedicated person with you rather than just outsourcing a task. Why Should You Choose Outsourcing Angel? (14:06) They have an HR department managing their people's issues effectively. Outsourcing Angel serves small business owners to help them create a culture or work environment that can be fun for VAs and keep them motivated. They protect the business and the quality of work they give you. The Biggest Challenge In Outsourcing People (16:29) The process of picking the right person is time-consuming. You post a job, go through filtering and interviewing, and then test them out. Some people don't love recruitment and managing people. Getting People to Buy Into the Values in Business Outsourcing Model (19:27) Their mission is to create home-based jobs. They conduct meetings through Zoom calls and share the successes and plans for the next month. It is where Linh welcomes members and her way of showing her personality to her team. They have a company trip every year where they do activities and catch up with each other in person. Never look for someone that has a great talent but is dishonest or has a blow in personality. Recruit the right people who have the same value and who also want to join a mission to help their community. They have a volunteer group in the Philippines that donates money and helps in charities. Building an Effective Team (24:09) They use Slack as an online version of an office and their channel for chatting. To improve the culture further, Linh created a channel called Daily Reflection. Every morning, as a rule, everyone comes in and to answer: What are the three things you're grateful for? Through this, they get to know more about each other and what's happening in each other's lives. Your Team or My Team (28:09) They help you with onboarding to get you started with the VA, but it's your VA. They are people who work directly with you. They leave it to the client and the VA to enjoy the journey. Common Mistakes of Clients When Outsourcing (29:48) Giving overwhelming tasks without delegating at all. Linh encourages clients to start small and break it down. Clients underestimate the time needed to train someone. Book Recommendation and Daily Rituals (32:43) Your One Word by Evan Carmichael According to Linh, this book helped her and her company to find their value. Her daily ritual is to wake up at 4 am. At 4 am, her mind is much more creative and fresh, and she has better ideas and insights. That extra time allowed her to add in meditation, journaling, learning and working on her hardest task for the day first. Connect with Linh through LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. Check out more of what she does on her YouTube channel and by visiting her website. Finally, visit Outsourcing Angel's website to see how they can help you with your business. I'm willing to bet that most of the people you follow online have already shared their version of how to prepare yourself for the New Year. And instead of adding too much to your already-filled plate, I thought to keep the process simple for you by introducing what's worked for me over the last few years: "Your One Word". Instead of having a hyper-specific goal which feels nearly impossible to meet unless you're on your game 24/7, 365 days a year-- I've always found "Your One Word" to be my guiding star. And today, I wanted to share that with you if wanted to spruce up your routine for preparing for 2020 :)

It’s my birthday and I have some things to give away. Just a few of my favorite things! How to enter. Simple! If you’re already subscribed to our newsletter, I have entered your email address into the draw! If not, no worries - just go to either website and put your email in the newsletter subscribe box. I’ve also created a link and have put in the show notes. Here is the link to join: http://www.sapnamalhotra.io/birthday Someone asked me recently, if Podcasting has changed my life. It really got me thinking, was this a game changer for me? The answer was YES! Podcasting has made me courageous and more adventurous. I get inspired everytime I do a podcast episode. I love being surrounded by people that are challenging the Status Quo. I’m doing more things than I ever would have done. I’m trying new things and constantly thinking ‘WHY NOT’, instead of ‘BUT’. A new fresh take on things. At the end of 2018, I had made six month goals (instead of yearly goals), because I wanted the flexibility to add to things. So, my 3 goals were Publishing my Networking book - NAILED IT!!! In fact, I ended up on the Amazon Best Sellers list, which totally took me by surprise. First of all, I need to thank everyone for their amazing support for my book launch, Connect the Dots, turning strangers into meaningful network relationships. I have to say, I love all the emails and notes. I’m glad that many people are finding the book and the companion workbook so useful! One listener, said the book had the ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ type of feeling and they loved all the stories! I’m sooo glad. This has definitely been a labour of love! The best was when my niece that named the book, was reading it. I was telling my brother in law, that we shouldn’t let her read it because she’s too clever to begin with and will learn how to build relationships so that she always stays ahead.. She’ll negotiate and win like no tomorrow! And she’s only 10! Goal #2 was to conduct a free sales webinar. Which I did. I discussed common sales proposal mistakes and best practices. I’ve added the webinar information in the shownotes. I love teaching and sharing best practices. My goal #3 was to finalize the volunteer partnership, so that we can start to make an impact on the world. I truly believe that education and awareness is instrumental in overcoming any challenges and obstacles. If children start teaching their uneducated parents, then we have a hope for the future. We need to provide opportunities for those that don’t have that privilege. And I found a charity that does just that. I’ve partnered with Food for Life Vrindavan (FFLV) . In fact, a portion of the proceeds of the book is going to them. Primarily, FFLV runs schools providing free education, meals, skill training and medical help to over 1500 girls in Vrindavan, India. This also includes free Meal Distribution, Cleaning and Tree planting, Paper Recycling , Organic farming, Sewing and Embroidery Centre (providing training & employment opportunity for village women). Over the past 25 years of working at grassroots, they saw the intense hardships a girl faces without an education, Child Marriage being the most common one, where she is forced into an adult role at an early age. FFLV aims to keep the girl in school until she is 18 to prevent early marriage. We also encourage & support the girl to pursue university education if she wants. I can’t believe that we’ve been producing podcasts for a year and a half! It’s been amazing and lots of fun! It’s been incredibly inspirational to highlight Canadian Innovators. In fact, One of the little shifts that has been happening is that not only highlighting Canadian Innovators so that we can be inspired to run our areas of our lives or careers better. We are also having additional global innovators talk about innovation best practices. Along with, having episodes about essential business lifeskills! I’ve been getting a lot of questions from some of the listeners being concerned about how all this Automation/Outsourcing/Mergers & Acquisitions and so on is going to impact their careers and industries. The truth is, it is not a question of “IF”, it’s a question of WHEN. We are on the slow side of the rate of change and it’s only going to accelerate. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! I have an online digital course #FUTURE PROOF that helps people navigate towards this to get ahead, get noticed and even promoted! I’ve put a link in the show notes ! What are my goals for the next 6 months Do group coaching calls to help people #FUTURE PROOF themselves. I’m going to share some timeless management consulting secrets to help individuals become disruptors. I’m so excited for this online course - 8 hours of pure GOLD!!! Write my 2nd book - did I tell you that writing this book was literally the hardest thing that I’ve ever done! Well, going to do it again! But, I have definitely learned a few lessons! I have about 5 different topics, so I need to sit down and do some prioritization I’m going to do some workshops & webinars from discussing innovation trends to how to network effectively. 2019 is going to be awesome! This 6 months planning & goal setting has really lived up to the challenge. In 2018, I had set goals for the entire year and only did 2/3rd of them. I set up my 6 months goal and did all of them 100%, plus I launched a virtual book club that I adore! You can join the BrainFood Book Club! You don’t need to read the book to get the value from it! Now, it’s my birthday and I have some things to give away. Just a few of my favorite things! You know I absolutely adore truLOCAL! They’ve generously donated an amazing Steak Gift Basket from truLOCAL - who is ready for the BBQ season! They’ve been on Dragon’s Den and got so many offers! We had Marc LaFleur from truLOCAL on the podcast. Episode7! https://caninnovate.io/marc-lafleur/ We are going to get him back to see how things have changed 1 year later.. truLOCAL is exploding and expanding soooo rapidly! Tease Tea has generously donated a brilliant tea basket.. They are really changing the world! You know I love my coffee… but once I started drinking these teas… my life has changed!!! Addicted to Skinny in the City and Tumeric Tonic Mind & Body Trio . I’m dying to try their Matcha Bamboo Kit.. addictive!! We had Sheena Brady on the podcast - E76 - https://caninnovate.io/sheena-brady/ . They are donating their Mind & Body Trio with Caramel Cardio, Skinny In the City & Turmeric Tonic (loose leaf 40g pouches) plus an infuser (valued at $39.95) as well as one of our Organic Ceremonial Matcha 30g tin and (not pictured) the Matcha Bamboo Kit, (valued at $39.95) If you heard Ariel Garten - you know that I ABSOLUTELY love the MUSE Meditation headband . Meditation has changed so much for me! It’s now part of my daily ritual and this MUSE headband really taught me HOW to meditate! We had Ariel on E41 - where she taught us how to optimize the crazy in all of our minds! And then we had Ariel on episode 45, that taught us the Innovation Mindset! PURE GOLD! I get so many emails about how Ariel has changed their lives! I even added this to Connect the Dots book because I thought these tactics are brilliant and more people need to reset their mindset! And.. based on our BrainFood Book Clubs great reads. I’m going to give away a few of my favourite books - Coaching Habit by Michael Bungay Stainer (E49: How to Get Unstuck), Your ONE Word by Evan Carmichael (E77: How to figure out your untapped potential) and of course, a copy of my own book: Connect the Dots, turn strangers into meaningful network relationships! (E81: Networking Tips & a cheatsheet) How to enter… simple! If you’re already subscribed to our newsletter, I have entered your email address into the draw! If not, no worries- just go to either website and put your email in the newsletter subscribe box. I’ve also created a link and have put in the show notes.. https://mailchi.mp/caninnovate.io/birthday So excited for the next 6 months! I’ve got some stellar innovators coming up, some starting as early as 11 years old! Crazy eh! Till next week!

I was invited recently to work alongside the wonderful Evan Carmichael as he embarks on his journey to build his YouTube audience from 1.7 million to 10 million subscribers. What's my role? I'll help Evan identify any potential psychological barriers that might tempt him to "play it small" along the way. #EvanCarmichael is a successful Canadian #entrepreneur and author. His book "Your One Word" is one I highly recommend. He has almost two million subscribers on YouTube, but still faces many of the same "what if" and "should" challenges we all battle. We had lots of fun exploring these topics, and I'll be speaking with him again each month. The videos of these sessions will be available on Evan's YouTube channel, and my #FindingProof FB page. In this first session, we talked about Evan's goal to solve one of the modern #business world's great problems - people not meeting their potential. Evan is a generous soul, driven to help entrepreneurs to achieve their goals and to believe in their own mission. His motto? "If you have the ability, you have the responsibility." And he sums it all up in a single word: #believe. Join Evan and I as we share his journey towards ten million YouTube subscribers. I think there'll be some deep insights and lots of laughs along the way!

Entrepreneur, author, speaker, and YouTube influencer Evan Carmichael, shares how he built a network of connections to grow his blog readership and YouTube channel, which is nearing a million subscribers. Evan's Journey Evan publishes daily content YouTube to help entrepreneurs achieve their full potential. He was passionate about entrepreneurship from a very young age, but because being an entrepreneur wasn't the path most people followed, he thought he would become a banker. It was only when he went to college that he partnered with friends and started his first business. After selling his business a few years later, he dedicated himself to empower entrepreneurs to succeed. Your influencer marketing story: Evan Carmichael's position as an influencer Partnering to win When he first started his YouTube channel, he didn't have "an agenda." But then, inspired by Bill Gates, who recommended partnering with others who have the same audience, he was moved to seek influencers. Starting to connect with influencers He was successful connecting with his first 2 YouTube influencers because he was a true fan of their channels. He also found an angle that would appeal to their audience, so he suggested 3 ideas that would be helpful and relevant. Evan didn't get a "yes" immediately. He followed up as many times as needed. "It just seemed natural," he says. Building momentum To build his network, he reached out to people who he already knew in search for relevant connections to contribute content for his blog. He was introduced to Guy Kawasaki and Seth Godin, who agreed to contribute to his blog. Evan's first connections led to new contributors for his blog. Same approach worked for his YouTube channel. "You keep pulling sweaters to get to the front of the line." What works and doesn't when pitching to an influencer Generic doesn't work; authenticity does When Evan receives generic pitches, he rejects them. On the contrary, when he's approached by people who're active on his channel, he takes notice and wants to learn more. "If someone leaves a comment 5 or 6 times, (...) you click on his profile (...) Maybe I end up reaching out to him because it's a potential fit." Value comes first Even when you share influencers' content on social media, always add a comment that brings value. Building a name (your own platform) is a way to attract influencers. Choose a platform that matches what you're great at. Do what comes naturally to you. Pick a path and be consistent--otherwise you'll give up! Keep on looking until you find a way When Evan was writing his book, Your ONE Word, he wanted to interview the CEO of Starbucks. He asked everyone in his network, trying to find his way through. Eventually, he connected with the CEO's book's ghost writer on Twitter. He sent her a video to tell her what he found most impactful about the book, and then asked for an introduction. The ghost writer introduced him to corporate PR, and even though the timing didn't work, he was able to reach people in the highest ranks at Starbucks because of his reaching out to the ghostwriter. "You have a goal, and you just attack it from every possible angle without giving up!" Evan says. One thing you're most excited about Evan is excited about his new book, The Top 10 Rules for Success. The book is meant to be read one page at a time. Each page will give you 2 fantastic ideas from legends in business that you can then apply into your own life. Resources and tools mentioned Evan says he has a "massive disrespect for tools," because tools will not save you when things go wrong. Start with you. With zero tools you can still dominate. Don't let the tools become an excuse. Evan's best tool is his own YouTube channel--all about mindset adjustment and becoming inspired to achieving your highest potential. Book: Your ONE word, about finding your core value to grow your business. Evan’s motto #BELIEVE More About Evan Carmichael Evan Carmichael #Believe in entrepreneurs. Today's episode is the final part of our Getting Started series. We're talking to people who got off their butt and took action to accomplish the dream they have been sitting on for years. I can't think of a better topic to end the series with than Your One Word. “I think everyone does have one core value that cuts to the root of who they are, and if you're not happy with your life then it's because your life is too incongruent with what your One Word core value is.” Evan Carmichael coaches entrepreneurs for peak performance, and he's helping even more people reach their peak performance with his new book: http://evancarmichael.com/oneword/ (Your One Word). http://evancarmichael.com/oneword/ (Your One Word) is a guide to greater self-awareness, because it's easier to forge a path towards your ideal future when you are aware of your single most important core value. It provides a blueprint for a process that has helped entrepreneurs build multi-million dollar businesses. “A lot of people feel like they have potential, but they don't know what to do.” Your Word is only for you. It's a word or phrase that represents what you are about, at a core level. The process of picking Your One Word helps you reflect on your purpose and move forward with more intention. Evan's word is Believe. Mine is Impact. “Having that self-awareness helps me create with more consistency, create with more intention and build a team around something super meaningful.” The exercises in the book will bring you through a process of self-reflection that starts by reinforcing the constant nature of Your One Word. It's not who you want to be in 2017. It's not your New Year's Resolution. It's who you've always been and always will be. It has to be a personal exercise.
