Charles Stankievech is an artist, a writer, and an academic. He teaches at the University of Toronto, and his art takes him into some of the most remote landscapes on earth. Places like CFS Alert, the northernmost permanently inhabited place in the world. He describes the Arctic as occupying two parallel spaces in our cultural imagination: one built on myth and fantasy, and another grounded in harsh, physical reality. He says that most people will never set foot there, which means our understanding of it comes from ideas rooted in medieval tales of magnetic mountains, science-fiction fortresses carved out of ice, or the general sense that it's a blank, unreachable expanse. But beneath that fantasy is a real landscape shaped by nature and human activity.  One of Charles' early Arctic projects was about the Distant Early Warning Line, a network of Cold War radar stations built across the Arctic to detect incoming Soviet bombers. He began thinking about how the remnants of that global conflict were already entangled with what he called an emerging “Warm War,” where rising temperatures and melting sea ice would turn buffer zones into contested shipping routes and resource frontiers.  Sound is one of his primary tools for understanding these places. He says that what you hear often tells a different story than what you see, and so his work uses sound to help people experience aspects of a place that visuals alone can't capture. That instinct connects back to his own life — long days spent alone in the Rockies with his dog, camping, hiking, and snowboarding in the backcountry. Those solitary experiences were a refuge, a place where existential questions emerged naturally. It's where he learned that when you confront the world on your own terms, you gain a clearer understanding of yourself and the people around you.

These lectures, interviews, and presentations are some of the most important documentations on mind control that you will find. This series is extremely difficult to find online and has stood the test of time since 1997 when it aired on CKLN Radio. I will be airing this series over the next couple months for 'Movie Night'. One of the most anticipated episodes of The Remarkable Retail Podcast returns as Steve Dennis reviews and grades his annual retail predictions, offering a candid assessment of how the industry actually performed as 2025 unfolded. Known for balancing optimism with accountability, Dennis evaluates where macro forces, technology shifts, and retailer execution aligned—or diverged—from expectations. The episode opens with its regular news of the week segment, highlighting economic crosscurrents shaping retail performance. Despite multiple interest-rate cuts, housing-linked categories such as home improvement remain under pressure, with Home Depot forecasting modest growth at best. Tariffs emerge as a recurring headwind, squeezing margins for retailers like AutoZone and casting a long shadow over sourcing, pricing, and inventory strategies heading into 2026.Then its on to Part 1 of the predictions reckoning portion.A central theme is the continued rise of retail's “super-scalers.” Walmart, Amazon, Costco, and a small cohort of dominant players once again captured a disproportionate share of industry growth, reinforcing the idea that scale, price leadership, and operational excellence matter more than ever in a value-constrained consumer environment. Dennis argues that this concentration is not cyclical, but structural, driven by convenience, pricing power, and omnichannel capability. SPECIAL OFFER for our listeners! A rough Monday night raised player-safety and Olympic concerns, starting with Brandon Hagel’s injury from a forearm to the head by Seth Jones—a play that drew no supplemental discipline, frustrating Tampa Bay and leaving Ray concerned about the message it sends and future tensions. In Dallas, Team Canada hopeful Darcy Kuemper exited after being clipped by Mikko Rantanen in what most saw as a hockey play with an unfortunate result. Vancouver stunned the league by trading Quinn Hughes to Minnesota in a rare in-season blockbuster, choosing the youngest package—effectively four first-round assets—signalling a clear youth-driven re-tool and prompting a subtle jab from Hughes toward New Jersey. Edmonton also made waves, moving Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak to Pittsburgh for Tristan Jarry, change for change sake perhaps, as Ray doesn't feel this provides real stability in goal, though Jarry has improved since time in the minors. Finally, Toronto remains a puzzle: sloppy play and an inability to handle pace—exposed again against an all-world Connor McDavid—highlight the Leafs’ need for a scoring winger amid tight cap constraints and asset management. The massacre of Jews by muslim jihadists at Bondi Beach is a tragic warning — will Canada be next?

Tonight on The Ezra Levant Show, Ezra delivers a stark warning after the horrific terrorist massacre at Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach. During a public Hanukkah celebration attended by many local Australian Jewish families, two Muslim migrants — a father and son from Pakistan — opened fire, murdering at least 16 people and wounding dozens more. It was the deadliest anti-Jewish terror attack Australia has seen in decades — and it didn't happen in a war zone, but in one of the world's most peaceful, beautiful cities. This massacre was not an isolated incident, but rather the predictable result of years of government policies allowing Jew hatred in the streets. But it wasn't just the pro-Hamas protests that brought Australia to the point of murdering Jews, lighting a menorah. It was also more universal policies, the type of politics that Canada knows all too well: • Mass, unvetted immigration from extremist regions • Political and media tolerance for open Hamas support • Laws that disarm law-abiding citizens while empowering criminals • Police and politicians who refuse to name Islamist terror for what it is Australia, like Canada, has aligned itself symbolically with Hamas, refused to crack down on extremist networks, and criminalized self-defence — leaving Jewish communities exposed and undefended. Instead of confronting Islamic extremism, Australia's leaders are already blaming “right-wing extremism” and calling for more gun control. So, we have to ask: if these conditions produced a massacre in Sydney, why wouldn't they produce one in Toronto, Montreal, or Ottawa? This episode is a warning — not just for Jews, but for all Canadians, Brits, and Americans in the Western world. If a country refuses to change direction, it will eventually arrive at its destination. Listen to tonight's episode to understand what just happened in Australia — and why Canada may be closer than we think.

In the wake of Sunday's terrorist attack on Australia's Jewish community, Canadian Jews are feeling angry, scared, mournful and defiant, with some seriously considering moving to Israel. As of Sunday night EST, the death toll in New South Whales had risen to 15 victims, including the host of the Bondi Beach candle-lighting event, Chabad Rabbi Eli Schlanger, who has deep ties to Toronto and Ottawa. Meanwhile, officials believe up to 60 other festival-goers were wounded, including the rabbi's wife, a mother of five. One of the two shooters was also killed. In Canada, rabbis and Jewish leaders urged their community to push back against terror, show extra pride and make an effort to attend public candle-lighting ceremonies this Hanukkah. But some fear Canada is equally ripe for an attack like Australia's, due to the failure of public officials to stop hate speech and protests on our streets featuring chants like “Globalize the Intifada”. On today's episode of The CJN's North Star podcast with Ellin Bessner, you'll hear what Jewish Canada sounded like while mourning Jews on the other side of the planet. We're joined by Richard Marceau, a senior official with the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, who just returned from an antisemitism conference in Australia six days prior to the attack; award-winning Canadian author Sidura Ludwig, who lined up early to buy special sufganiyot at a Thornhill bakery; Sara Lefton of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto; Rabbi Levi Gansburg of Chabad on Bayview, who knew the murdered rabbi; and political leaders, including Prime Minister Mark Carney, Toronto mayor Olivia Chow and cabinet minister Evan Solomon. Ref: Science News, B. Welcome to the Psychedelic Conversations Podcast! In this episode of Psychedelic Conversations, we speak with Rotem Petranker, PhD, executive research adviser at Rose Hill, to explore the realities of psilocybin microdosing research. We discuss his Phase 2 clinical trial investigating microdosing psilocybin for major depressive disorder, including study design, safety outcomes, and early findings that challenge some popular assumptions about dose and frequency. Beyond the data, we dive into deeper themes around expectancy, set and setting, and why connection itself may be one of the most powerful healing factors. We also reflect on the limitations of overly medicalized research, the importance of pre-registered science, and how collaboration between scientists, communities, and lived experience can move the field forward with integrity.About Rotem:Rotem graduated with a BsC in psychology from the University of Toronto and an MA in social psychology from York University. I walked through Austin with Dan Guiry, and this conversation was 20 years in the making. We started on Congress Street and wound our way down to 6th Street, hitting every major comedy venue along the way while catching up on two decades of chaos. Here's the thing about Dan—I met him 20 years ago in Calgary when he was 19 and had done maybe three open mics. Someone told him "You gotta see Rouse, he's crazy." So he shows up, I'm with four pirate-looking ladies, and I ask this kid if he wants to come fuck these bitches with me. He tells me he's a virgin, almost shits his pants, goes home and "feverishly jerked off." That's how we met in 2006. Fast forward four years, Dan's been touring across Canada five times and moves to Toronto. Then he gets into the San Francisco Comedy Competition, doesn't win, and decides to hitchhike to LA. This maniac puts his thumb out on the highway with just a guitar and a burner phone. He messages our mutual friend Brian O'Gorman asking what to do, and O'Gorman tells him to hit me up. So Dan ends up staying at my LA house for 10 days and we just partied our asses off. I took him to this VIP nightclub where my buddy Chris, a top-tier club promoter, gets us in. We're dressed like shit—I'm in this, Dan's in jeans and a t-shirt—and we walk past the line into the basement private club. I ask Chris if I can smoke, he calls over 12 bouncers to circle our table with their backs to us, and I'm doing lines and smoking cigarettes while everyone in the club is staring going "Who the fuck are these guys?" Then we hit Bar Sinister, the vampire bar, did absinthe, watched some light BDSM, and Dan was thoroughly confused by the whole experience. Walking through Austin, we ran into my ex Brendan Lemon with his new girlfriend (had to keep a face on), saw Harland Williams which gave us Canadian hope, and encountered Robert Orlando after his "47th gay joke." The whole walk was punctuated by these meat fan hair dryers blasting beef smoke everywhere—apparently that's just Austin at dusk. Dan's been in Toronto raising his seven-year-old son, and I've been calling him every 3-4 months for four years going "You gotta get out, man." He always had excuses—the kid, the family, whatever—but I knew if I kept pestering him, eventually a door would open. Toronto used to be like Austin is now: five shows a night, banging around the city. Then COVID destroyed it. The only game in town was those park shows, which were awesome, but the city's just not the same anymore. Meanwhile, I moved to Austin five years ago after Red Ban came out here for the Kanye West episode with Rogan. I showed up during COVID curfews because I had Slipknot tickets, and I've been here ever since. Got my green card after a 20-year journey that started in 2001, cost $15k, and involved getting turned back at the border and living in Europe for six years. Dan's been here nine days and he's already hooked. We hit Houston to see Adam Ray kill for an hour, went to Casino El Camino for the best pastrami burger either of us have ever had, smoked cigarettes in bars like Dan fucking Guiry, and I took him to my first open mic signup ever (I thought it was Kill Tony auditions—rookie mistake). We walked past the Mothership where I've performed 10 times in four years without being booked, hit Vulcan Gas Company which was the only spot doing comedy during COVID, passed the Velveeta Room where Doug Stanhope used to hold court, and ended at Creek in the Cave for my Nightmare Before Christmas show. We even stood in the spot where someone got shot yesterday. I'm like "You're standing in their blood" and Dan looks down horrified. The bullet hole's still in the door behind us. Dan's going back to Toronto tomorrow but he's already planning his return. For the first time in his life, he's got hope again.

Journalist and researcher Brian Baker, founder of The Superstitious Times, joins Haunted Talks to discuss his new book, Eerie Whispers: Exploring Canada's Reluctant Relationship with Its Ghostly Lore. Why is Canada, a country overflowing with ghost stories, so hesitant to talk about them? Brian shares a chilling childhood encounter he has never quite shaken, unpacks his idea of Canada as "the introvert on the global stage," and takes us across the country to explore why some regions embrace the paranormal while others keep it at arm's length. We also dive into Toronto's legendary Philip Experiment, where a group of researchers appeared to summon a ghost they invented, raising unsettling questions about belief, storytelling, and what might be shaping a haunting. Along the way, we explore fear, pop culture, and Indigenous perspectives that challenge the very word "paranormal." If you've ever wondered why Canadians are so shy when it comes to ghosts, press play and find out. If you enjoyed this episode, you might also like:  Episode 196 – Spiritualism in Canada, Eh? The New Yorker staff writer Andrew Marantz is joined by the political scientists Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt, who teach at Harvard, and Lucan A. Way, who teaches at the University of Toronto, for an installment of “How Bad Is It?,” a monthly series on the health of American democracy. In a new essay for the journal Foreign Affairs, “The Price of American Authoritarianism,” the scholars of government assert that President Trump's rapid consolidation of power in the first year of his second term has tipped the United States into authoritarianism—specifically, into competitive authoritarianism, in which elections persist but the ruling party rigs the system in its favor. The panel discusses how they arrived at their conclusions and suggests that not all is lost: America's authoritarian moment could be temporary. “The United States is in a very good place to resist,” Levitsky says. “Civil society is very robust and so there is a very high likelihood that Trump will fail.” The Political Scene draws on the reporting and analysis found in The New Yorker for lively conversations about the big questions in American politics. Join the magazine's writers and editors as they put into context the latest news—about elections, the economy, the White House, the Supreme Court, and much more. Hallucinations are the most recognized—and most misunderstood—symptom of schizophrenia. Movies depict them as dramatic, terrifying commands or cinematic visions, but the lived reality is far more complex. In this episode we unravel what hallucinations actually are, why they happen, and how people learn to live with them. This episode is a special feature from our sister show Inside Schizophrenia. Hosted by Rachel Star Withers (who lives with schizophrenia), with Gabe Howard as co-host. (Don't worry, new Inside Mental Health episodes return in 2026.) In this episode, Rachel shares her own experiences, from everyday “simple” hallucinations like sounds or shifting faces, to more intense, emotion-laden complex hallucinations. She challenges the assumption that hallucinations are always violent or dangerous—and breaks down the critical differences between hallucinations and sensory disturbances. Expert guest Dr. Paul Fitzgerald joins the conversation to explain how the brain creates these perceptual misfires, why hallucinations in schizophrenia differ from those caused by grief, sleep deprivation, or drugs, and what current research reveals about how universal these experiences are across different cultures and countries. Listener Takeaways The difference between simple vs. complex hallucinations Why hallucinations in schizophrenia feel different from drug- or grief-based ones Why reducing—not eliminating—hallucinations is often the realistic recovery goal How CBT and coping strategies help reduce fear and regain control Whether you live with schizophrenia, love someone who does, or are simply curious about how the brain works, this episode offers clarity, compassion, and surprising insights you won't forget. Guest, Professor Paul Fitzgerald, completed his medical degree at Monash University and subsequently a Master of Psychological Medicine whilst completing psychiatric training. He then undertook a Clinical and Research Fellowship at the University of Toronto and The Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. On returning to Melbourne, he worked as a psychiatrist and completed a PhD in transcranial magnetic stimulation in schizophrenia. Since completing this PhD, he has developed a substantial research program including a team of over 25 psychiatrists, registrars, postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, research nurses, and students. Professor Fitzgerald runs a research program across both MAPrc and Epworth Clinic using brain stimulation and neuroimaging techniques including transcranial magnetic stimulation, functional and structural MRI, EEG, and near infrared spectroscopy.  The primary focus of this program is on the development of new brain stimulation-based treatments for psychiatric disorders. Guest host, Rachel Star Withers, creates videos documenting her schizophrenia, ways to manage, and let others like her know they're not alone and can still live an amazing life. She has written “Lil Broken Star: Understanding Schizophrenia for Kids” and a tool for schizophrenics, “To See in the Dark: Hallucination and Delusion Journal.” Learn more at RachelStarLive.com. Our host, Gabe Howard, is an award-winning writer and speaker who lives with bipolar disorder. He is the author of the popular book, "Mental Illness is an Asshole and other Observations," available from Amazon; signed copies are also available directly from the author. Gabe is also the host of the "Inside Bipolar" podcast with Dr. Nicole Washington. Gabe makes his home in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio. He lives with his supportive wife, Kendall, and a Miniature Schnauzer dog that he never wanted, but now can't imagine life without. Most doppelganger stories involve fleeting glimpses, strange doubles, or eerie moments of déjà vu. But what happens when the figure you see… isn't yours at all? Jacqueline from Toronto shares a chilling experience that began innocently enough — a simple reunion with an old friend. But this friend wasn't just quirky or eccentric. She collected objects from the dead, surrounded herself with occult artifacts, and claimed to attract things other people couldn't see. During a sleepover at Jacqueline's home, everything shifted. Her friend fell silent, terrified of a man standing at the end of the bed — a man Jacqueline couldn't see. Later that night, strange whispering filled the darkness, followed by a morning encounter even more baffling: Jacqueline saw her grandfather walk past the bathroom twice… except he wasn't home. And the figure she saw vanished into a room with no exit. What she witnessed wasn't her grandfather. And her friend claimed to know exactly why it appeared. #doppelganger #truehaunting #paranormalattachment #entityinwhite #ghoststoriesreal #ghosts #sleepoverhaunting #shadowvisitor #occultencounter #spiritfollows Love real ghost stories?
