It's undeniable that the merits of diversity lay at the heart of David Bottrill's vast discography. With artists like Peter Gabriel, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Muse, Silverchair, Staind and Rush, David's work spans genres and generations, lending to a sound that is both familiar and progressive. He's cultivated the aggressive hard-rock palette of bands like Stone Sour, Godsmack, and Mastodon, while maintaining a connection to other ends of the spectrum with artists like Afrocelt Sound System, IAMX, and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. With three Grammy Awards and the success of millions of copies sold worldwide, David has produced and mixed platinum and gold career-defining albums that have established paradigms and redefined genres. “I prefer to work on music that has a strong identity and shows elements of originality,” David states, “genre isn't really important.” It's this focus on identity and potential that inspires David to push artists to curate the best of themselves and make music that defines who they are in that moment. And yet, even in their individuality, each album that David works on distinctly shows his fingerprint. David spent 20 years living in the UK and has just built a new Atmos mix and overdub studio in the greater Toronto area in his native country of Canada, although he still spends much of his time working with artists in various international locations. David has recently retired from the board of directors for Make Music Matter, but still supports the non-profit that uses the creation of music and socially conscious art to help heal trauma in marginalized communities and individuals. Through Make Music Matter, David found an outlet for his experience, truly helping better the lives of others and bringing awareness to the community at large.IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN:Balancing the artist's vision vs giving people “what they want”Mixing in subgroupsBuilding mix templates to maximize creativity and speedCarving space in the low end to get clarityMixing with a subwooferThe downside of using reverbKnowing when to step away from a mix and restart later To learn more about David, visit: https://www.davidbottrill.com/Looking for 1-on-1 feedback and training to help you create pro-quality mixes?Check out my coaching program Amplitude and apply to join:https://masteryourmix.com/amplitude/ Want additional help with your music productions? For tips on how to improve your mixes, visit: https://masteryourmix.com/ Download your FREE copy of the Ultimate Mixing Blueprint: https://masteryourmix.com/blueprint/ Get your copy of my Amazon #1 bestselling books:The Recording Mindset: A Step-By-Step Guide to Creating Pro Recordings From Your Home Studio: https://therecordingmindset.com The Mixing Mindset: The Step-By-Step Formula For Creating Professional Rock Mixes From Your Home Studio: https://masteryourmix.com/mixingmindsetbook/ Check out our Sponsors:Download Waves Plugins here: https://waves.alzt.net/EK3G2K Subscribe to the show:Apple Podcasts:

In this special summer episode of the Remarkable Retail podcast, recorded live at the CommerceNext Growth Show in New York, we welcome Jeannie Yoo, CEO of Draper James, for a wide-ranging conversation on the brand's growth trajectory, the power of celebrity in retail, and the rise of human-centric retail experiences.Jeannie brings two decades of fashion retail experience to the table, from her early days at Michael Kors and Coach to leading the luxury house Adam Lippes. Now nine months into her role at Draper James, Yoo is steering the Southern-rooted lifestyle brand—founded by Reese Witherspoon—through its next stage of growth, marked by its 10th anniversary "decade tour" and a sharpened focus on customer connection.Yoo discusses how Draper James defies the "digitally native" label, thriving through retail stores, with licensing and pop-ups that foster personal, local, and sensory experiences. While the brand's celebrity origin story is foundational, Yoo emphasizes how its growth is now powered by inclusive pricing, joyful storytelling, and a culture of Southern hospitality. Reese Witherspoon remains involved, but the brand is scaling under Yoo's operational leadership and with the backing of Consortium Brand Partners.Central to the conversation is Yoo's take on "human-centric retailing"—a strategy rooted in community engagement, elevated in-store experiences, and product innovation informed by customer passions for gardening, books, and food. She describes how Draper James curates joy through both product and experience, emphasizing quality over quantity in an era of fashion abundance. Technology, particularly AI, plays a role, but not the leading one. The focus, she notes, is on enabling smarter, more efficient work—not replacing human intuition or creativity.Looking ahead, Yoo sees North American expansion—especially retail and licensing—as the brand's most significant opportunity before tackling global markets. She also reflects on her leadership style, which has been forged in both large organizations and niche luxury brands, allowing her to scale thoughtfully without losing the emotional resonance that makes Draper James special. About UsSteve Dennis is a strategic advisor and keynote speaker focused on growth and innovation, who has also been named one of the world's top retail influencers. (Luke 10:38-42)It's all about where we can contemplate God and serve him in our life. With over four and a half decades of experience in broadcasting, branding, and digital marketing, Paul Larche has built a remarkable career at the intersection of innovation, leadership, and community impact. Beginning as a young radio announcer in Northern Ontario, he steadily advanced through on-air and executive roles. In the 1990s, Paul became General Manager of Telemedia Network Radio in Toronto, where he oversaw national broadcasts for iconic franchises like the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. Driven to push the boundaries of traditional media, Paul founded Larche Communications Inc., transforming a visionary startup into a major media force with five radio stations and a thriving branding and marketing agency. Under his leadership, the company pioneered forward-thinking strategies in both radio and branding, culminating in successful strategic sales to Rogers Media and Bell Media. Decoding How We Think This isn't just a book about branding—it's a guide to the hidden operating system behind human behaviour. The Divided Brain introduces a simple yet powerful metaphor rooted in neuroscience: our minds are driven by two distinct but interlocking systems—the fast, emotional Old Brain and the slower, rational New Brain. Every decision your customers make, every instinct your team follows, and every reaction you encounter in a negotiation or pitch stems from the constant tension between these two mental gears. Once you learn to spot which brain is in control, the fog lifts. What once seemed irrational becomes understandable. Sudden client reversals, hesitations in sales calls, or why one brand sticks while another flops—it all starts to make sense.   Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

A meditation preached by Fr. Eric Nicolai at Lyncroft Centre in Toronto. The verse from the psalm: “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God” (Ps 42:2). To thirst like that is a deep desire nestled in the recesses of our heart. Our prayer now is an occasion to explore the inner chambers of our lives.  We should do so with sincerity and simplicity.Music: Michael Lee of Toronto, Ontario.Thumbnail: Jan Van Eyck, The Lamb of God, Ghent Altarpiece, 1432
